Re: That voice (60,621) (60,642) by Malcolm from Asia
I agree. What I have observed in some of her performances in this tour is I feel that she's holding back in the high notes but I know that the voice is still there. Just look at the Against All Odds and When You Believe performances, her voice is so great, even though some are lipped parts, I can imagine that if she will perform a song completely live, she can do that excellently. I realized that the AAO and WBT climax are still lipped but I'm totally fine with that because she proves to us that she can still sing those parts by serving us new renditions of those songs for the first 3 days of her tour. I believe that she's just protecting her voice and all that. I just know for sure that her voice is in better state right now and the voice that we love is now appearing, emancipating, and gearing for a comeback.

Lol I didn't know my album title suggestion were taken already. How about "Risen"?

Re: New album (60,613) (60,638) by darrian liu from taiwan
I agree. Make a stunning acoustic album with just a guitar or at most, some basic beats and minimalist production. Something in the vein of Vanishing and Right To Dream. I think she would sound fantastic.

Re: List (60,606) (60,637) by darrian liu from taiwan
How about "Phoenix"? Since she's been rising from the ashes after people literally burnt and dragged her in 2013-2014, it seems like a triumphant album title.

The Boy Next Door (60,636) by Andrew from UK
2015 Jennifer Lopez movie. In one scene early on she's on a date with someone she gets irritated with. Date: "You're a little firecracker when you get riled up, aren't ya?" J. Lo: "Firecracker?" This is surely intentional. If it was in the script originally she would surely have asked for a different word. But it's in the movie. Maybe there's just too much vodka going on here.

European tour (60,635) by Andy from Germany
I am very excited to see her in Brussels soon. And her voice sounds incredible from what I saw on YouTube so far. And it seems that she feels much more secure and confident onstage since she has regained her vocal abilities. Also, I like her song selections. Of course, it is mostly hits and not fan choices as she also wants to address regular audiences.

New album title (60,634) by 123 from USA
I always wanted a two part album, one called Songbird and the other called Phoenix. If I had my pick, I would like the next album to be called Phoenix, but only if it's full of great songs.

Album title (60,633) by Otti from Belgium
I always liked her one word titles. Starting with "Emotions", "Music Box", "Daydream", "Butterfly", "Rainbow", "Glitter" ("All that glitters" initial), "Charmbraclet". When TEOM came out, I was a little bit chocked, she breaks the rules, with this more rebel title, but works out well on the end. After that she never used a one word title, I hope she's gonna do back a one word title, a verry powerfull one.

Re: The 90s (60,575) (60,632) by 123 from USA
I don't know what 90's you are referring to but Mariah was never considered a serious singer/songwriter. When she came out, she was dismissed as "just another white girl trying to sing black" and was accused of being a Whitney clone. The critics bashed her vocals on Emotions as impressive and not expressive, calling her a showboat. Music Box was bashed for being more MOR and less Aretha and they called her lyrics "cliché". The Butterfly album's lyrics were bashed for Mariah's "10 cent words". Mariah is no longer an up and coming ingénue, she is a legendary music icon. We are currently living in a visual world, whether we agree with it or not, image is key to an artist's appeal. Even Adele has lost weight. It's nice to see positive changes occur for Mariah, even if they are superficial. Mimi L. is a girly girl, a beautiful one at that. She seems to know what she is talking about in areas of fashion, why can't she express her opinion if it pertains to Mariah? Even if you are not into the loss of weight, new hairstyle, costumes, you can always correlate these changes as signs of new music coming soon. I would like to think that Mariah still has some young fans that post on this messageboard. I'm surprised you stuck around because Mariah has been using "dahling" since 1990, like only a regal legendary vocalist would.

Fire them Mariah as quickly as you fire nannies. Hire Rachel Zoe, she's a ball of stress but she is talented.

Mimi L you travelled back in time to 1999 and stole those photos from her Rainbow album shoot. OK where's that time machine? Lol. Mariah is beautiful and ageless, thanks for [...] links.

New album reply (60,628) by Randy from USA
I don't think I'm stuck in the 90s Giovanni. Adele's album is the fastest selling album in history and for the most part it's raw introspective ballads. I'm not saying MC should do this to sell records or follow a trend, it's just that MC writes and sings raw introspective ballads better than anyone so why not tune everything else down and do an album of Right To Dreams and Help Me Make It Through The Nights? And by the way those were recorded in 2008. And if Hello can be number one for 10 weeks then MC can get a #1 on a ballad. I wish MC could learn to play the guitar or piano. How many of you would drool with her on stage playing and singing by herself? And Nikki while I do believe MC is a better singer, songwriter than Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell, she does not get the respect from the industry they get. And #1s and album sales has nothing to do with it. It has to do with the industry thinking of her as a singing over the top diva and not a creative genius introspective songbird who can pen lyrics about things other than love. I want her to write and sing by herself because I am tired of other men and women basking in her sunlight. Tommy M, Jermaine Dupri, LA Reid, DJ Clue, Puff, Babyface, Walter A, Diane Warren, Ben M, Damizza. I truly believe she needs no one to compose an album and I live for the day I see: Written, Arranged and Produced by MC. Executive Producer MC. I totally know she could do it.

Doing what I do best. New picture alert. This other one is so gorgeous and glamorous. I love it. Last but not the least we have this. Great shoot. She is starting to look very 1999-Riah nowadays. Beautiful woman.

I think people are just focused on the fashion and makeup due to the route the discussion seemed to go. Not that you *only* discuss those topics. There are lots of other contributions on Mariah and music.

Just one inquiry. Is that video before 1990? Because they mentioned it was before her fame. I thought it was around 91-92.

Re: Mimi L (60,617) (60,623) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Thank you Deedre. I appreciate the love, and I do honestly enjoy reading what you bring to the board too. I am a little surprised everyone thinks I am only about the fashion and hair because I do have many posts that talk about her music, her songwriting and the likes. The only reason I post so many photos are because I am proud of her and like to show her off. There are only so many times we can have "top 10" lists, and it gets boring when there is no new music around but oh well. It is what it is. Sorry for the random rant, I appreciate your post and I agree there is space for all topics on this board. I just wish people stop attacking each other by calling people "twats" and "b**ches* and "stupid" every time they don't agree with someone. Anyways thank you Deedre, you have always been super nice.

Re: The 90s (60,616) (60,622) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Andrew, it's also pretty boring that you keep popping up every now and then spreading negativity on this board. Then you proceed to hate on Mariah while swearing up and down that you do love her and then announce that you are leaving but you "keep coming back incessantly oh why?". You seem to have mistook this board (which is supposed to be a MC discussion board, whether it's about MC's voice, her dress or her Hello Kitty) for the House of Lords. Not everything here has to be serious. As for the people you said are an embarrassment for their parents, sweet to see you so concerned, I am sure yours are super proud of you. Nice hair dahlin'. I love the Tin Tin inspiration, a little outdated though, just like your opinions about Mariah, her music, the fan girls and the out and proud individuals. But hey we love everybody. (Oops there I go again, slay Andrew, slay.)

That voice (60,621) by Billy from Greece
Apart from discussing how gorgeous she's looking and how beautiful Mariah's sounding currently, I just marvel at the little hints she gives in her live performances of the real "knowledge" that lurks behind those vocal chords. Let me try to make it more clear: Mariah is a master of technique and obviously knows too very well how she wants to sing her hits to please both the fans, as well as have fun for herself when she sings a specific song for the nth time. However, it is at moments like the intro of "Emotions" and this particular note at the end of "My All" that just has me begging for more of that. It's not just the stupendous full-sounding resonant belting she is capable of. It is the incredible drama, the weight, and the unrealized potential that her voice carries, that one is left wanting for more of "out of the box" notes and performances. This clip I've posted just takes an already huge song and performance into a whole new level. Instances such as this make me wonder how much Mariah is holding back - since she is (still) an artist performing within the medium of "popular" music - and how much knowledge she has acquired over the years, which luckily is exhibited gradually more through variedvocal approaches.

Unplugged (60,619) by Nicole from US
Hi Randy, I doubt she would be doing Unplugged with songs that were not commercially promoted. If she would be doing an unplugged album she needs those nodules removed (kidding). But I agree with just singing her heart out and letting go of the diva image, even if its just temporary. But I believe she is way better than Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell. They do not have 18 number 1s and loved all over the world like Mariah.

Butterfly Beyond? (60,618) by Andrew from UK
I kinda changed my mind about "Songbird Supreme" as it may make Mariah sound like she's trying to say she's better than Eva Cassidy. It would be a good tour or greatest hits title. It occurred to me that it might be a cool idea, twenty years after it was released, to do a Butterfly sequel to signify that the journey started in '97 has come to some sort of resolution. "Butterfly Relanded" maybe. "The Return of the Butterfly". "Butterfly Beyond". No more ridiculous album titles that most straight men wouldn't be see dead owning.

Mimi L (60,617) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Post whatever you want, love. Why not be done with labels of whose "mature" and whose not, whose a "real fan" and who isn't? So tiresome don't you think? I'm not really fashion centered much, but I can feel the joy when you talk about the ensembles and makeup, so why the heck not? Maybe not everyone is as into that, which is OK too, but hey, there's room for all kinds of topics.
