Anytime you need a friend (57,716)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
I just blasted "Anytime you need a friend" on my stereo like 5 times. This is Mariah at her best. Still gives me chills each listen. Absolutely love the "don't ever be lonely" at the ending of the song. "Music box" is such an amazing album. I don't care how Mariah feels. She is awesome with ballads. Still hoping for a big belting song that will blow everyone away.

Adele's fashion is not why people love her. They love her for her music and for her voice. The haters need to just except the fact that Adele is a great singer who's on her way of becoming a future legend. Many say Mariah should collaborate with Alicia Keys, but I say Adele. Alicia is a medicore singer. Mariah would over power her easily. She needs a vocal challenge. Adele is that challenge. So please "make it happen" Mariah. Collaborate with her one day. It would be epic.

Great post Mandy. I don't mind the lipping anymore. Clearly her voice cannot handle singing too many complicated runs or octave jumps in a single song live. Switching between vocal registers isn't simply a matter of how high or low they are. She doesn't just lip high belts. Most of the time she also lips breathy parts. If there is anything to learn from the failures in her live performances in the last decade and the fact that she likes to record her albums very early in the morning, it's that her voice only works in full under very controlled conditions. Especially when doing album promo, she has little control over her voice while singing on different shows at all sorts of hours of the day. When she was younger her voice was much more agile and she recovered easily from a failed note or run. Now it's difficult to camouflage her failures, like the whistle on #Beautiful on GMA in 2013. She has to lip to preserve her voice. And so long as she makes chart-oriented music, her records will continue to have impossible runs. That's how she became famous, and when she's on the radio with a pop record the first thing most people will pay attention to is "can she still sing" or "can she sing it live"? Plus she does write more singable songs these days (compare Fantasy and Obsessed), nevermind that they're still demanding on her voice. Although she never really wanted to be a live performer, what she gave us during the time she could sing live will always be legendary. She still makes great music in the studio and she's still an amazing artist. I'd say she's still doing her job pretty well.

He is just so annoying. Always talk the same issue. Can you just enjoy her music and the voice? Even though she is lip sync but still it is her voice. What is your problem? We all here want to enjoy the music by MC, why you always talk about her voice over and over again? Get a life.

Chill Bill (57,712)

Bill, all artists at some point have lip-synced, yes. Thou dost misseth the pointe, Squire. I equally know the content of your messages will be condescending when directed at me, and a little Stan-ish when not. Princess, let me be equally as clear and as condescending for you: Comments and positions that are clearly false and delusional should be challenged. Delusional standpoints cannot win as there is never any evidence to back them up and usually only evidence to dispel and disprove. I invite you to debate me in person.

Notes from a small island (57,711)

I see the attack squad is out again. Somebody intimates other artists are lip-syncing machines, that Mariah is not, and that cannot go uncorrected. How unfair on other artists. How completely unrealistic. BET Blueprint WBT chorus is lipped (albeit better than most others). She lipped at Live8, she lipped parts of Happy Birthday to Ali, she lipped for the American president, she lipped duetting with her own mother, it goes on and on. The comment made is completely false and deluded. Mariah has become increasingly more and more famous for miming in the last decade. To deny it is delusional, affording Mariah fans, collectively, a worse rep than most other artists' fans. Just leave the nonsense out. Doesn't make you less of a fan. In fact, I think it makes you more of one.

I live in Perth and frequently stay at Crown and I've hardly heard Mariah's songs, nevermind her whole album. So don't get your hopes up, I don't believe for a minute it's that bad.

Actually you're wrong. She's always been very open about her nodules. "They're the reason why I have the high register and the belting register and I can still be husky. A lot people couldn't sing through the nodules they way I do. I've learned to sing through my vocal chords." Nodules impose her to strain so she can hit those crystal clear high belts and that is what she is known for. I'd say her remedy of vocal rests, vocal training and therapy work incredible. She can sing her butt off on a really good day with incredible amount of sleep. Another aspect was her technique, she sounded amazing but it didn't mean it was in a healthy way. Mariah actually did have a very healthy technique for the most part but her larynx was in an incorrect position throughout her lower register which can easily damage your voice. I'd say no to surgery because her nodes were actually a blessing in disguise but also a curse if overused. It's a great thing she didn't do it, I mean she was still hitting them notes even after 98, right? She just has to work extra harder, practice, warm up, vocal rest and cherish sleep more. The only thing is I wish she would stop drinking alcohol, it's very unhealthy and it dries out your vocal chords. But you know her "everyone's gotta live". Lol.

Let it go (57,708)
by Rene from US
| |

I just don't get the logic of following a singer's career if everytime she performs she disappoints you. If you followed a singer for ten long years and keep whining like a little boy that she sucks, that is self-afflicted torture. It's like when your friend is in a bad relationship, they complain. Yet, they stay there. If Mariah does not do it for you, let it go. Will Mariah really change because one fan is crying how she needs to sing live every single note? Grow up.

MC, and Adele (57,707)
by David F from Mexico

I love how Mariah went from princess living in a castle to this free ''butterfly album'' the feeling was so real, also when Fantasy went very popular and when went to number 1 oh gosh, she gave us sexy when Rainbow was out. I miss those moments why she did little promo with the chanteuse album she waisted so bad "You don't know what to do". I think that album should have been a video concept album. When I look at Adele I kind of laugh because they dress her like a grown woman with those big dresses, that's why she has appeal to the older people, any way the world is weird these days.

Mariah lip in ABMB bridge (57,706)
by JoaquĆn from Chile

I remember that I listened to Mariah in 2013, at the GMA Mariah was singing ABMB completely live. But the bridge were very raspy. Now in the years 2014 and 2015 Mariah lipsing in ABMB using the bridge of GMA. But in Vegas Mariah perfectly can do this bridge withouth the raspy voice, but why doesn't she do that?

A good performance in the last ten years. You must not have heard her sing TGIFY during her last three Vegas shows, there was mid and high belts, ease in her voice, thick tone and no straining or roughness in her voice. Here is a seat I pulled out for you, now please sit.

You know it's funny. I've been wanting to listen to "AYNAF". It's such a great song. Songs like this along with "One sweet day" and "Fly like a bird" are the reason why I love Mariah. And why she's the best period. *wishes for an epic album soon* Mariah please release an album soon. "Me I am Mariah" is great and I still play it, but it left me wanting more.

One possible reason for this can be her role. She plays a bitchy high class mom. So we can assume she'd be decked in expensive things.

She can actually use her voice without nodules. In fact, she would've sounded much more crystalline than her absolute peak in 1996. Whistles? She could relearn techniques on whistling. Low notes? Removing nodules will help her reach lower notes as nodules only add airiness to her voice. If she removes them, the low notes would be really solid and luscious you'll think she's a full-blown contralto. Don't get me started on her belts. Idk about her tone but I think removing nodules will help her lots. It's quite risky, but today's technology ain't bad enough to turn her case into one like Julie Andrews.

It's cool to share opinions and everything (57,697)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

|
Many talk about how "rational debate" isn't possible here, but Eric lets posts stand as they are for the most part. Things get censored at times based on his rules of respect for his website messageboard. I don't come here to "debate" Mariah. I'm not interested in debating her. Some are. That's not what I'm here for. She's not a piece of property, or a law being passed in parliament. She's a human being who has feelings and flaws just like everyone else. I come here because I'm a fan, not a professional critic, and I appreciate having a place to come and enjoy Mariah among others who appreciate her work. The only time there is discord here is when people feel their opinion is being attacked, or their being told their viewpoints are "wrong" or invalid. People either get labelled overly negative or overly positive/delusional. The insults and name-calling ensue. It's exhausting, and it won't stop until we as a community decide to just stop without trying to change how things are perceived.

You know you're so right. She built a whole career from lip synching, even the recordings are all lipped, right from Vision Of Love, down to Infinity every single one of her songs. And also the live performances, everytime she stepped on stage, she was lip synching I'm sure of it. Heck even her talking voice is lip synced. Smh.

Andrew, it's not that reality isn't welcome here. Nobody here is expecting Vegas to be another Daydream tour. But this is a fan site. Most people come here to talk about MC in a positive manner because we love her and her music. You bring everything down, and have now just become a caricature of yourself. I know what your messages will say before I even read them. So Mariah lip syncs. So does Celine Dion. Get over it.

Lipped. Don't be soft. All lambs and fans alike know that it is. I won't relent on saying that the "it's live" rubbish is rubbish. I life Mariah Carey songs. But since Eequals it is apparent that nothing is real. She even lips in a duet. The whole world is labelling "lip-riah" usw. Is this really a place where reality is not welcome? I love Mariah Carey music. But I have to accept that a lot of it my be false. The WBT thing knocked out of the park, someone direct me to "it's a shame" from Heartbreaker live. Infect someone direct me to a vocal performance in the past ten years to be proud of. Bulimia isn't within me. But let's be honest here. Why is the world how crying foul at the once greatest pop vocalists of their generation? Must be out to get her. This isn't hating. You just cannot let bizarre comments pass. You're feeding the strange Mariah we have now. Shame.

Lip syncing issue (57,692)
by JAXGH from United States
| |
|

Mariah's songs have always been ridiculously hard to sing, this is the reason why she never toured in the beginning of her career. Her repertoire have always been in its own league vocally. When you are an audio engineer, a producer and have the greatest voice in the world, magic happens. She even said it herself in the 1995 "Stupid me making it so hard" interview as to why she had such long breaks in between each shows, it's because her songs are vocally demanding. Lets see you sing Vision Of Love, Emotions, Fantasy and Forever all in one night. Every single song is a vocal suicide. By 98, you'll hear her say to Stern "something's wrong with my throat but please don't be lewd" it's taken its toll. Damage have taken over. Not getting into each aspect as to why. Her nodules have made her sound beautiful but it's also damaged her chords. Mariah is in a lose-lose situation: she can't use her gift without the nodules, but she'll damage her gift with them. So she really has no choice but lip sync. Or she'll lose it all if she over uses it. You guys don't think Mariah knows her limit? The ridiculous part is, as each album goes by, the songs get harder. Example: Fly Like A Bird, Through The Rain. So it's even more demanding now. Just be happy she is stilling making albums and preserving her voice for recording sessions. I don't mind if she lip syncs, her voice is already damaged and she can't remove the nodules or she'll lose her voice. Her voice is very limited now, just accept it. Okay?
