(New York City) Mariah has always [...] Hero was not a favorite song of hers, and how she wrote [...] song in the key of Gloria Estefan's voice but it was Tommy and the higher ups at Sony that told her to keep the song for herself and it will become one of if not the most important song of her career. Mariah Carey Balmain (61,498) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Forgot to add in my last post, we finally got Mariah to get on the Balmain bandwagon. Both her gorgeous shoes and that risky dress were from Balmain. This gives a clearer view of the shoes. News interviewed Mariah during her launch party and a segment of it focuses on Prince, where Mariah talks about how the news affected her and about her friendship with him. Here is the link. Fantasia - So Blue (61,494) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Desperate for a much needed break from all the depressing coverage of Prince' death (it hasn't even been 24 hours yet and the fact that I'm so affected despite not really being a hardcore fan speaks volumes of his influence), I stumbled upon this eclectic gem by Fantasia from her upcoming album. Her vocals are top-notch and the production is just impeccable - so opulent and classy exotic. I always admired how she doesn't follow trends and successfully hops from genre to genre. I hope Mariah gets inspired by her vocal revival during this tour and ditches everything expected of her and start really experimenting. (Friday 22 April 2016; 12:33)

Mariah Update (61,493) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter So Mariah attended the launch party of her Vodka (ya Vodka) at the VIP room in Paris looking very 2006-2008 Mariah like in this. Another picture from the night is this. Somehow she looks gorgeous even with the dark makeup here, maybe since they didn't pair it with the awful contour. So yes finally Kris got it right. She has finally stepped up her shoe game. For someone like Mariah whose shoe collection can rival any store and then some, she used to mostly pick the most boring shows. I thought Emotions had rich, soaring vocals and Merry Christmas had outrageously heavenly tone, but Daydream, in my opinion, showed Mariah having more restraint on her vocals and that's why I said Daydream was the best. If Prince likes it, then I like it (61,488) by Tiina from Finland I am shocked and heartbroken. I love Prince. I saw him live back in 2011 with my father. It was the most amazing live show I've ever seen, or will ever see, I'm sure. I even framed my ticket. The air felt electrified that night. Prince had crazy charisma on stage. He was like James Brown and Jimi Hendrix rolled into one. He played overtime until the they switched the lights on. I actually cried afterwords it was that good. What a pioneer, what a legend. I know that's how life is but I grew up listening to many of them and I still do so it's a weird and sad feeling. Butterfly is from the days of constructed albums of around ten to twelve songs, where there was seemingly a beginning, a middle and an end. MIAM follows in the trend since Emancipation of having too many songs and being a little convoluted (the latter halves of TEOM and E=MC2 could have been cut, along with most of Memoirs, simply because it's boring). On MIAM, vocals are arid in parts and strained in others (the ending of "Cry." almost ruins the song), there are lyrics lazily lifted from a decade before even sounding sung with fatigue ("You make me feeyul. Baby, we were the best"), cut-and-paste vocals which make parts incomprehensible and too uncomfortable to enjoy ("Heavenly"), vocal engineering that makes Mariah sound like a completely different person ("One More Try"), production so over complicated in places it's tiresome, and two of the worst songs ever recorded ("Thirsty" and "Supernatural"). Without even mentioning the cringeworthy title and embarrassingly overphotoshopped cover art, the album has genuine moments of genius and overall is good. However, Butterfly was fresh and exciting and is classic whereas MIAM is rehashed Mariah, sequenced slightly differently. She desperately needs to move on musically with her next project. She probably has one more opportunity to impact heavily and her recent activities suggest she may be moving towards that. She would be a fool to waste it. (Thursday 21 April 2016; 18:10)
