Re: The future (60,278) (60,283) by Marissa from USA
I was agreeing with you up until the "she has a desperate need for recognition within black culture". I don't think Mariah collaborating with rappers or doing mainly R&B has anything to do with a desperate need for recognition from black people. It has to do with the fact that those are the genres that she prefers. Also is doing pop and ballads (which she has made very obvious that she prefers not to do that much) out of a desperate need for recognition by white people any better? One thing that I have noticed about you is that every time Mariah and rap are brought up your criticism of it seem to be racially charged. You're quick to paint rap or hip-hop as some depraved art form that Mariah is too pure and white to affiliate herself with. You seem to be forgetting that Mariah is part black. I don't know what it's like over in the UK but here in America if you are mixed it is usually at least somewhat easier to be accepted by black people than it is by white people (the one drop rule), so maybe she feels more welcomed by that part of her heritage and thus goes with it.

Well said.

This is why you never shade Mariah. Jennifer tried it on Wendy but ended up getting hit right back triple fold. She's completely non existent to Mariah. Poor Jennifer lol. I'm laughing.

Songbird Supreme (60,280) by Giovanni from USA
I like it. It would make an excellent album title.

"Captain's log, supplemental": Someone once said to me, on a drunken Soho night, that they get why I like Mariah: "No matter what mood you're in, she's got a song that compliments how you're feeling" (not verbatim, obviously). One song? Impossible. Soundtrack to a soul. "Songbird Supreme". Call the next album that and smash it, Mariah.

The future (60,278) by Andrew from UK
I am pleased many people seem to be more open to shout that Mariah needs a change of musical direction. This blind following, screaming that everything she creates is fantastic, that everything she does is crafted with genius foresight, must surely end. MIAM was a good Mariah album (as in something decent in a vacuum of decent Mariah output for a while) but it is not the masterpiece some people claim (although, we all like different albums for different reasons and I respect that). I find that album forgettable now. Some of it - dare I say - is embarrassing. Other parts are genius, however. Actual genius. The claim that "she made it for the fans" is embarrassing and those who make it should feel so. Did she inform the label she was making an album for a select group and not for mass sales? It's nonsense. Likely to me the label didn't bother with it because it was irrelevant to musical trends and could not compete. I'm quite clear that Mariah is on a precipice, of ruining her legend and/or becoming a greatest hits artist. She absolutely must take a different approach. It's boring. Let's all be honest about it. There is nothing exciting about her music anymore. And, as stated many times, there's nothing exciting about her stage performances (crossing fingers for the O2 arena in a fortnight). But I'm sure nobody is really convinced she is going to change her musical direction. It's one rapper after another, a desperate need for recognition within black culture, and a formulaic approach to output. Further, does anybody really want an album put out now? It is evident that Mariah has to leave dreary RnB behind and recent posts about a retun to simple hooks and universal, creative lyrics are spot on, from my perspective (why you mad? let me count the ways). Perhaps Mariah should just greatest-hits it and *tell* the fans what it is going on? And that's my point here: the fans and lambs alike deserve some form of communication now: what is the future? What is going to happen? Mariah used to communicate with her fans like no other artist. She paved the way for that as in many other areas. In saying that: I'm pretty sure "lambs" existed before any other artist affectionately labelled his or her following. Now, it's people like Giovanni (love his passion, incidentally) having to make it up, fabricate, guess, wait, wait some more, be disappointed etc. and not receive the hype they amassed in their heads. Time for Mariah to speak up and respect her fans. Not that it's an active disrespect. But I think it's a passive one and it definitely exists on some level. Think we've reached a turning point with the SSF tour. She needs to get back to her day job. And talk to us about the future.

The bigger question is if MC's Vegas residency was such a failure as the article claims, why would Caesars Palace add more dates?

Re: Only one MC song (60,249) (60,275) by Musti from UK
I hope I never (in capitals) have to find myself limited to one Mariah song for the rest of my life. It is very hard because different songs hold different meanings. I will always go back to "Fly Like A Bird". But I also can't deny the power of "I Am Free".

I didn't know Mariah was still that savage with her shade. Maybe she heard about Jennifer's "I guess she's forgetful" shade.

Great topic and I love seeing everybody's song choice. It is honestly so hard, it would be either Vision Of Love or AIWFCIY. I can listen to just those two for the rest of my life and die a happy man.

Disaster (60,272) by B from USA
Lies. If her sales were that bad her residency wouldn't have been renewed. This screams Benny and I don't know her, who isn't selling out every date either.

Jermaine and Big Jim Wright (60,270) by Giovanni from USA
As much as I appreciate their work with Mariah I would agree that Mariah needs to lose them and work with fresh producers. I doubt she's even keeping in touch with Jermaine after what happened. He basically put her on blast many times in interviews so I don't care for him anymore. Working with Diane Warren, Happy Perez or Pharell would possibly give Mariah her next hit. But from what we've seen Mariah looks super confident as if she already has one. It's possibly. I also think maybe there's a chance we'll be seeing some of those unreleased tracks from that leaked track list. I'm confident Mariah's next album will be another "Daydream" or "The Emancipation Of Mimi".

Article: Mariah Carey: I still don't know J Lo (60,268) by Lee TS from USA
I'm sorry but that was so serious flawless shade at its best. Doing it while in passing made the who in question all that insignificant. She's unbothered.

Re: Only one MC song (60,261) (60,266) by Malcolm from Asia
These days, it's a battle between "We Belong Together" and "One More Try". Like Luke, OMT is the song that I don't feel the most in MIAM, it actually came to a point that I deleted it for some reasons. But for the last 2 months, it just happens that I learn to enjoy and fell in love with it. The melody and the lyrics (even though it's a cover, but I think that is the magic of MC, she will convinced you that that song is hers because of the emotions that she deliver). As for WBT, that is my go to song since forever, just the first few seconds of it alone is just heaven to me, it never gets old.

Re: Only one MC song (60,249) (60,265) by Tijl from Belgium
This is a tricky one. In my top 5 - can not condense my answer to one single song - in random order:
- "Honey"
- "#Beautiful"
- "Triumphant"
- "The Roof"
- "The Art of Letting Go"

Ever noticed (60,264) by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
That when she is super confident and super happy she just randomly sings. She has very very rarely done this since the 90's in interviews and it also makes the debate on this board a little clearer about the reporter who asked her to sing with him. I think the main issue was the key, and not that he asked her. She as recently as the Carpool Karaoke was so hesitant to sing but now she knows where her voice is at. I'm getting a good feeling. See 1.30 in the link.

Re: New sound (60,250) (60,262) by B from USA
The theme of the album should be finding love again unexpectedly after the end of her marriage. No more rappers or JD. Please he's irrelevant and your loyalty to him is costing you your relevance. Also Big Jim is also dating your sound. You need fresh producers like Happy Perez who produce modern R&B classics. All Mariah needs to do to score another hit is revisit the songwriting formula she used during the writing of Music Box, Daydream, and Butterfly. Straightforward simple yet clever lyrics with simple catchy hooks and melodies.

I've recently come to love Heavenly. I wasn't too keen on it when MIAM came out, but due to recent circumstances that song has been playing for days. It's amazing how much music can be so uplifting. So definitely that or Fly Like A Bird.

Article: Las Vegas shows a complete disaster? (60,260) by Jiro from USA
Lies. why would they even compare a singer to a dancer? Mariah even extended her residency in Vegas which only means that people are actually buying her. I just can't believe how people are so desperate to lie about obvious things. Mariah is a singer, she sings live every single show. Not like J.Lo. Nobody would even care if she lip-syncs her way through her residency because it won't matter lol.

I love the part about all her show has to offer is her voice. Um hey stupid that's what she is known for. Her voice has always been her marketing point from the beginning of her career. As a fan I want the voice to work. I highly doubt Celine was on stage twerking and shaking her butt. Lol.
