Loverboy reached #2 on the Billboard chart though, so I wouldn't say it didn't take off.

I agree. I'm getting very positive vibes from the new era. She hasn't looked this good since E=MC2. It's also the first time she has seemed this interested in her career trajectory since Touch My Body. I'm very content with all the effort Sony/Epic have been putting into her image repair. Vegas, Game Of War, The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour, the Christmas movie. Now all she needs is a hot song.

Mariah's second emancipation (59,165)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
Is near. And she's not playing this time. "Me I am Mariah" shows just how talented and creative she still is. "Beautiful" is amazing and one of the her best efforts since "We belong together". It managed to make it to number 15 and would have easily reached number one had her shoulder injury not happened. "The art of letting go" is another great song that deserved more recognition and success. It needed a video and promotion. (It also should have been included in the standard version of the album.) "Thirsty" is fun, cool and radio friendly. I actually love it, haha. "You don't know what to do" is definitely number one material but was wasted. Had she ended the era with "Heavenly", this would have been one to remember. I believe Mariah has even more great songs that she saved for the next album. It's going to be epic. So far things are looking good. She sounds better, looks better and seems more focused. And I couldn't be happier.

And please keep in mind selling less than 100,000 copies of an album in certain foreign markets can get an artist a Gold certificate. In the US an album has to sell/ship 500,000 copies before it receives that distinction.

Who is the #1 selling female artist of all time? (59,163)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
If you ask Google, it says Barbra Streisand is #1, and Madonna is #2. I wouldn't hold your breath too long, because the way things have been going for Mariah, she could make a huge splash if she really wanted to. She is also a lot younger then the competition, and she doesn't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon, so don't stress too much over this. The golden goddess will continue to shine.

Yeah I used to believe that title when I was a kid and was so proud of it, my idol the #1. Celine also claims that title as well. I guess it's an accomplishment that she's proud of. She should just be introduced as the incomparable Mariah Carey.

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life (59,161)
by Blue Riding Hood from Outside

Sometimes I think the Glitter lead should've been swapped to LNADJSML after the Firecracker sample controversy. She would not have needed to go back into studio and delay the project. The song sounds like a sure fire #1 smash. Along with Lead The Way and Never Too Far, she could've set the tone for era. Sometimes I think had Loverboy taken off, she would've taken the route of Britney Spears in her future.

Most famous songs in France. (59,159)
by Familitchi from France
| |
|
|
Many fans here are from the UK and the US, and some people mentioned the songs most heard by Mariah on the radio there. In France, there is a radio which is called "Nostalgie" and it basically makes a point of nostalgia by playing older songs. The two major songs by Mariah heard there are "Without You" and "My All". In fact, I would say they play these two songs every single week. But this radio is basically one of the only radios playing music which is not current. In 2013/2014 the "You're mine" remix by Grego Salto was very often played by "current" radios. Obviously I don't need to go into AIWFCIY, we all know that that song is a massive success pretty much everywhere.

Forgotten moments.. (59,158)
by Familitchi from France
| |
|
|
Mariah's career has been going on for so long and she did so much that many things completely went to oblivion. Some of these moments are her acting in the movie "Wise girls" or the beautiful movie "Tennessee". But some songs are also not very known like her featuring in the song "Warning" or "Lil Love". I'm 18 and I wasn't even old enough to watch/ experience some of these things when they came out, so every once in a while I encounter things on YouTube or somewhere that I have no idea Mariah actually ever did, and that's how I know that's it's been quite forgotten, nobody ever mentions these things.

Okay, I didn't know that. But to mention it every single time is not helping her at all, it's like she badly wants to be on top and it will turn out to be an insecurity. It can also cause her for being un-relatable in general sense because being relatable will endear her across a broad audience. I observe that team Mariah might be visiting this forum occasionally because I think they follow some suggestions of ours, so team Mariah if you will see this, please consider my suggestion. All we want is what's best for MC.

Most of Madonna and Barbra's biggest sellers were released before in advent of SoundScan. Mariah is the best selling female artist of the SoundScan era.

I think it's a sneaky way of saying that she sold a lot in a short amount of time. I always think it's kinda like when you pick up any book it usually always say "#1 Best Seller".

"Best-selling female artist of all time" title (59,152)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|
|
Why Mariah Carey and her team mentions that title every single time when it's not even true based on facts? I think it's time to change it to "one of the best-selling female artist of all time" because that title clearly belongs to Madonna worldwide and to Barbra Streisand in the United States, Mariah only placed at third spot. For me it's giving her more negative image for bragging it every time rather than a positive one or whatsoever when Madonna and Barbra occasionally says it in public.

Always Be My Baby, We Belong Together, Fantasy, and Dreamlover are massive hits, maybe it is a UK thing. However, just because she isn't as successful in the UK doesn't mean she's a one hit wonder. She's extremely successful in foreign markets. IWKWLI was huge overseas.

If and when Mariah appears on Empire I hope she plays an over the top version of herself. Play up the ditzy demanding diva and be in on the joke. Doing so would endure her to viewers and would be a perfect move to jump star her musical comeback.

Re: Has Mariah peaked with AIWFCIY? (59,135) (59,148)
by Bill from the UK

From a UK perpsective, it is certainly her most well known song across all generations. It was really only ever AIWFCIY, Hero, and to a lesser extent Without You that people remember. Despite having a string of top tens in the 90s, they're the only songs of hers ever played on radio stations (along with WBT and I'll Be There), and she is never played as much as Whitney and Celine are. So yes, it does at times seem like AIWFCIY's success kind of wipes out her past catalogue. I was just thinking the other day how great it would be to hear something like Anytime You Need A Friend on the radio, or Vision Of Love, or Through The Rain, or Make It Happen, or My All, but I know I never will. I'm not sure how radio stations work, maybe they don't buy any MC spins because she's not deemed as popular and save their allowance for Christmas? Who knows?

2016 (59,146)

After the Rockefeller debacle and the opening night of The Elusive Chanteuse Tour mishap Mariah spent 2015 working on her voice. She's clearly been seeing a vocal coach and rehearsing before performances now. Her voice is in fine form. She's also regained her confidence. Being in love clearly agrees with her. She has also shed the weight she gained after the accident and divorce. She's touring Europe this year and hopefully she'll release a stellar song with an amazing video. She looks the best she has in years. I think 2016 will be Mariah's year.

I get what you're trying to do Luke but the fact still remains this is not an Adele fansite. I will never contradict my own statements. Nice try though. I will support opinions not trends and apologize if I need to. Anyway, maybe you meant Celine Dion since our favorite artist, Mariah Carey, just sent her that lovely and sincere message. Have an excellent day.
