Vocals getting better (104,439)
by Terna from Nigeria

I think with the recent voice issues, she's begun to get more serious than in the past where those opinions stem from. As a singer, you can't afford to not acknowledge your voice needs absolute care and attention and I think she gets it now. Constant singing is also exercise for the voice especially if she's resting well afterwards. She's gotten much better than that first show in terms of tone and flexibility, the ease of singing is also coming back hence the absence of staccato. I do hope it gets even better.

Mariah isn't fastidious about exercising her voice. Regimented vocal exercise is considered bleak. She starts the first show dry and then as shows continue, she warms up. She recorded much of TEOM after the Charmbracelet tour as she said it left her voice in a good place. As a teenager, she respected opera but it was too restrictive, confining. She wanted to be freer with her voice.

Billboard has a whole article discussing Brenda going to #1 and what they think can happen going forward. Many points were discussed here too.

It can't just be this one song. It's everything else, the little things that helps and matters. Two years ago she had had that AppleTV+ thingy with Jhud and Ariana, and then the year later the second special with Khalid and Kirk. They're cute little songs here and there, not huge hits, but they contribute. All these little things helps. It can't just be this one song. She has all year to prepare, but has no new visuals nor project this year.
I always say that Caution paved the way to AIWFC's massive resurgence. The album was not a huge hit, but it gained her a whole new young fans which contributed to a whole lot.
Next year I expect the new album. And then a bunch of new videos, maybe for Miss You Most At Christmas, like a real video with a classy intriguing story, not those cheap $10 videos.
Good for Brenda, but I'm sorry but her song is just awful. It's neither here nor there. But good for her, her team is outsmarting Mariah's.

So: "Mariah doesn't sing before she's supposed to sing on stage because she can't be bothered so people who book early shows will just have to suck up shite vocals"? How absurd.
Imagine going to see a West End musical and the talent missing notes because they didn't rehearse. Imagine going to watch a football match and your team losing badly because they didn't go to training. Imagine... well, I think the point is made.
Mariah's vocal deterioration is of her own making and people like Jamie-Luke get grief for not wanting to hand their hard-earned cash over to her for sub-par performances. Bleak, indeed.
Perhaps Mariah not getting to No.1 might give her the shock that she needs: that she has to up her game and not stand motionless, without uttering sound, expecting adulation and praise.

Honestly, who cares? It's a good thing, in my opinion. There is now less pressure to keep maintaining that same level of success with it and frankly I'm bored of the Crimbo song already. And the talk of charts and that Brenda Lee who, sorry sister, should not have been slapped in that bloody awful blonde wig. It's a awful wig, a awful song and a awful nauseating thought that I might accidentally happen to listen to it ever again. It will undoubtedly be playing at the gates of hell upon my entry.
Next year is Merry Christmas 30 and the Crimbo Song's 30th. That's a huge, huge deal. I say Mariah do two concerts in Hyde Park, London. Winter in London, Mariah on stage with 65,000 people singing Crimbo songs into the night air, followed by a festive fireworks display. And stream it live on AppleTV.
If she did something like this, it would be global news and a massive celebration of the anniversary of her creating something that is truly timeless - unlike these little Christmas shows that nobody really gives two shiny shits about.

I think that you are totally wrong this time for sure. MC would kill it on the Superbowl stage with Usher. She would move like she did in the Honey video. Debbie Allen would be hired for her 6 minute performance that would have MC moving with her male dancers to A No No/I'm That Chick mash-up.

It's *highly* likely Usher himself will be either lipsyncing or singing over pre-record. I say she should do it, if offered. And practice like buggery to not look like an awful drag tribute act. New shorter dark, old school hair, maybe rocking some bangs. Pants on, tits away, heels lowered, moving around the set piece. Get Gucci to design her outfit.
I'm talking a totally shocking new look Mariah, first-worldwide glimpse, so that, the very next morning, it's Mariah's hot new body, hot new style, hot new track that is the talk, not the unbelievably boring American "football" nor Usher. Who should be in hot pants.
Alas, she will stand frozen centre stage in an unimpressive sparkly ball gown with her fake boobs hanging out - boobs which, by then, should have formed their own gravitational pull. But we can dream.

A girlfriend of mine attended the show. She's a casual fan but went with a group of girls for fun. She recorded some fantastic videos. This is from her social media post: "Back in the 90s I said more than once that 'all I wanted for Christmas' was to see Mariah Carey perform (that song) - and many other songs live. It only took me 30 years but my wish came true. Last night, we attended the sold out Mariah Carey Christmas show - and wow it definitely was worth the wait. She included favorites from her 1994 and 2010 Merry Christmas albums along with many other non holiday hits. Mariah looks, sounds flawless and seems to be having fun on stage with her band and dancers. So grateful for another fun girlfriend holiday adventure. Here is a little taste of the magic."

Do you think she has voice back enough join Usher on the Superbowl stage in 2024? I think so. If Usher announces MC will join him, it will be the biggest event of her career since WBT. She would be forced to drop a new song on February 9th. Just saying today trying to think positively.

Robert Anthony you called this weeks ago. There still are a few more weeks for her to get to number 1, I hope she gets one week atleast. Though you said you thought she won't hit number 1 this year. Maybe she'll hit number 1 on the chart for the first week of 2024 which will keep her streak going. I remember it was a really tight race last year as well and RATCT was also number 1 on Spotify last year but more towards the end. I don't think any amount of promotion at this point will make people stream or buy this song more than they already do. I don't think Mariah has anything left to accomplish with AIWFC - most of us were hoping it would help her get her longest running number 1 title back. It still can, might just take longer now. I think some people are generally getting a little tired of AIWFC (as per comments seen online). Heck even I tend to skip it on my Christmas playlist now sometimes - but whenever it does come on it still sounds pretty darn good I'll admit.
Lets celebrate her reaching number 1 on the global Billboard and Spotify charts and looking great in the People shoot. She says she has enough songs for an album now needs to record some of them so maybe a new album in spring. Also, I read online that Butterfly Lounge is Mariah's foray into Jazz. Lets hope that sees the light of day soon.

RATCT had been reaching the second spot for four years consecutively. It's not like the song came out of nowhere. AIWFCIY was ahead on airplay and sales. It was just 2.5 M streams. Mariah should up her game with a couple of big televised events. She needs exposure. Here in NY, I haven't heard RATCT anywhere.

Have you heard or listened to SZA's Snooze? The first time I listened to it reminded me of Mariah's Giving Me Life and Bliss. Of course, MC's songs are better. I just thought if only radio stations or streaming platforms give equal opportunities to both young and old singers, Mariah's chart success might continue. GML is a top-ten hit material like Snooze. It only proves that Mariah's songs are usually ahead of their time. And it's okay if AIWFCIY did not or will not make it to No.1. It has already made its impact and record. Let's give another old artist a chance.

It seems like UMG has set a precedent this year with RATCT and its aggressive marketing strategies to get it to number #1 after 65 years. Other record labels are going to follow suit next year. Oh, no. Last Christmas will be 40 years old next Christmas. Will Last Christmas make it number #1 with Sony Legacy's help? Brenda has shown us all it takes is a new video, special guest vocalists, a couple of TV appearances, social media and shady Spotify to help get a Christmas song to number one.
