I've always absolutely loved that video. The whole New Orleans party on the bayou theme was giving me everything I needed at that time and the three singing Mariahs were too cute for words. Lol I also really like the contrast of Mystical's energetic aggressive rap voice and Mariah from soothing to silky vocals on the track. Like you all said "it just works well". Definitely an underrated overlooked gem in terms of both song and video.

Merry Christmas deluxe edition LP (56,615)
by Luis from Spain
| |
|
|
Apparently, Sony is re-releasing Merry Christmas this year. Having retrieved Amazon's link, I am quite surprised that it's called a "deluxe" edition when it's just another pressing of the LP. It isn't going to be re-released on CD. If they re-release Merry Christmas with extra stuff and delete the current standard CD version, they may gain more sales as Mariah will premiere her Christmas movie and performing at Beacon Theater again.

Don't stop could absolutely be a number one today. I love the base, and Mariah's verse and that whistle note give me full-body chills every time I listen to it. Mad love for this song.

Maybe it is not one of my favourite Mariah songs, since her parts are limited only to chorus and bridge, but surely it is one of my favourite songs of all time. I love the lyrics, the sample-based production and the general melody. Every time I play it on a party or elsewhere, everyone immediately starts bouncing or even dancing. I remember that Polish division of MTV had the video on huge rotation from the day it was released until the end of MTV "The Music Television" ended.

Yes dahling if you ain't got no umbrella get your a** out the rain. This is terribly underrated. Mystikal added something so special to the sound of the song. Like you said, it's really melodic and the vibe is so easy going and fun. Like Mariah once said about Breakdown, it's not like rappers are going off and crazy rapping even though Mystikal kinda was but it's musical. This tune still sounds fresh and it's definitely one of her most festive gems. To me, this is probably one of the rare times when she decides to be the chorus girl and it actually works.

Just randomly watched and listened to this. Wouldnt this be such an instant hit today? Sounds so current. Has the rap, but still so vocal and melodic and actually danceable. I am in love all over again.

Hey Eric, when in [sic] wrote 1. "The Daydream Shades (as in plural)" I was deliberately going for a double entendre. I was referencing Daydream because that's when she started wearing sunglasses, shades, and that's also when we learned she was a practitioner of the art of shade through her response to being dissed by Madonna. So the plural "s" in shades wasn't a typo. I appreciate that you actually read our posts to the point where you sometimes correct spelling and grammar but occasionally the meaning and point of what I wrote originally gets lost. I'd rather you keep all, and not just some, of the minor mistakes you think I make if you can stand it. Or maybe make a note or exclamation? For the record, I have no issue with whatever you censure, that's your prerogative as Webmaster. God bless.

I agree, I don't think she has a bad album. They all have a different feel. I gravitate to some more than others. Some songs I don't connect with as much, but there is something I love on every album she's done.

Dial M for Miscellaneous (56,603)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |

Mariah has so many musical calling cards but has also acquired a whole bunch of very symbolic ones through her many album eras that have become a part of her signature brand. 1.The Daydream shade. Classic moment. 2. Barely there Rainbow-Glitter cleavage-dresses. 3. The stilleto and platform heels which, along with her dresses, find themselves frequently in water for one reason or another. No one knows exactly why but scientists are conducting studies at NASA so that one day our grandchildren may finally know the truth. 4.The Heartbreaker jeans. But really, Mariah has always been very much about her denim. That's the one staple in her wardrobe that doesn't really have an entry date. 5.The world's most casual wearer of diamonds. The charmbracelet butterfly ring. You may kiss it if your lips are free from Mariah slander. 6. The #1s called Lambs. A most uniquely formed fandom. The only one of it's kind as it is literally an extension of Mariah's immidiate inner circle. 7. Bianca, she who needs no introduction. The emancipation of BiBi: coming soon. 8. AniMariah the cartoon and 3D version of MC that is forever immortalised on film. I would love to hear her speak and see her go on little adventurers. *hint hint* 9. Queen and originator (as always) of personalised gear, be it blinged out mics, pink road cases, bejewelled ear pieces or initialed walk-in closet and pool floor designs. 10. Fritz quadrata a.k.a. Mariah's font. Enough said. When will anyone, ever?

E=MC2 vs. Memoirs (56,602)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with a lot of folks saying E=MC2 is like a collection of potential hit singles and a summery party record. Whereas Memoirs is a collection of her obscure songs. Although I do like songs like Candy Bling and H.A.T.E.U. I don't think there was a hit on there. I still can't get over the cover art of Memoirs it's probably her worse to date. I don't know, there's something very subdue about Memoirs where it kind of puts you to sleep. E=MC2 could have so carried on the fun and celebratory victorious vibes of being Mimi, it was off to such a great start too. I think my favorite tune off the record would probably have to be For The Record, I love when she gets super girly and create these very feminine and pretty songs. I wish Love Story had a real shot and I'm still not into I Stay In Love - it sounded very Beyonce to me.

The tabloid press is obviously being instructed to spread as many false stories about Mariah's boobs, and body over all, as possible because THTB can't stand how well she is doing or how good she looks doing it. The desperation is delicious and I just love how M is completely unbothered. Come on Donna. She's the shit and she knows it. And if you didn't know, I just told you.

Memoirs was Mariah chasing trends (working with The Dream). Charmbracelet is a lyrical masterpiece. TEOM is similar to Charmbracelet, the only difference is Mariah sang on TEOM and whispered and whistled on Charmbracelet.

I want videos like Honey, My All, The Roof, Heartbreaker, It's Like That, and We Belong Together. I liked #Beautiful but it could have been better and You're Mine (Eternal) had potential but it was wasted. I still love the location and the underwater in a gown shots from the video. If You're Mine (Eternal) had had a storyline with Trey playing her love interest with a Little Mermaid theme the song would have preformed better.

Charmbracelet vs Memoirs (56,596)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
These two albums would be a better point of comparison. I rank CB as my least favorite album primarily because of the way she sings throughout the record. Not a fan of her whistle tone and felt it was a snooze-fest. The only highlights were "Subtle Invitation" (beautiful lyrics and belting) and "Bringing On the Heartbreak" (love she went rock and owned it, I wish she did more). I felt if sang this record in her full voice it would have been more successful because the recipe was a quintessential MC album. Both albums were sleeper records that didn't perform well and looking back had gems, introspective records, and records that should have been left off altogether ("Boy"). In closing, even though it had less variety of styles to choose from and few producers, "Memoirs" is a riskier album to put out and shows she really didn't care about the status quo and made the RnB album she's always wanted. It was very R. Kelly-esque to release a full on concept record from beginning to end while adding a confessional song ("Languishing") and cover song (IWKWLI) to make the album still commercial enough to appeal to existing MC fans.

Mommy Mariah (56,595)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
If there was ever a time to use the word "festive" it would have to be the moments of Mariah as a mommy to Dembabies. She's got to be the most fun mom to be treating the little ones to all these fun filled adventures. I wouldn't be surprised if it was her goal to take them to every Disneyland in all the land. I'm actually ok with her not releasing new music anytime soon but to just enjoy her life. All I need are cute pictures of her luxuriating. But knowing M, I'm sure she's working on many things for the lambs.

E=MC2 vs. Memoirs (56,594)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
This is a great topic for debate. Although I agree E=MC2 had more radio friendly songs that weren't given the light of day, I still felt it lacked the integrity a MC album usually has for me. I guess I became used to having her obscure introspective songs that balanced out the "single" worthy records. Even though "I Wish You Well" falls into that category I still don't like the structure and confessional-church like quality to it. On the other hand, Memoirs while it does feel like one long big song that is monotonous, I really like. I think that record was the biggest risk she took. She really set out to make a concept record with a limited number of producers and I applaud that. It's really one complete arch and I like that. I love the smart clever lyrics and wide use of her lower register. I still get goosebumps whenever I play "IWKWLI" - it makes me nostalgic for the original song and love her interpretation that reminds me of "Anytime You Need A Friend". In closing, E=MC2 feels too generic and uninspired with a cohesive theme vs Memoirs which felt like a concept record with her usual confessional lyrics about her inner life peppered throughout each song. Great topic.

Mariah Carey loves her lambs and will not go away. That was my point. "Oh honey you can have me when you want me, if you simply ask me to be there. And you're the only one who makes me come running, 'cause what you got is far beyond compare." Mariah we lambs love your honey baby, so drown us, hit us on the head, and give us that sweet honey baby. Festive moments, dahlings. Just for the nolstalgia.

I'm one of the lambs that truly feels she has no bad albums, some I just connect with more than others. So in the case of E=MC2 and Memoirs, I can honestly say I choose Memoirs because I feel more of a connection. Now when I revisit E=MC2, it definitely still jams and I get my life, but at the same time it seemed like MC was more focus on making an album full of hits and not really pouring her soul into the songs as much as she's done before. It reminds me of the same difference for some between Rainbow and Butterfly, both great albums just different vibes.
