Christmas book (56,336)
by Musti from UK
| |
|
|
I don't understand why some fans are getting worked up about this. It's just another way to milk AIWFCIY during the holidays. I prefer this to having a re-release of Merry Christmas (even though we're still getting the re-release). Whether we like it or not, ventures like this are necessary to keep the artist relevant. There is nothing to justify here. Fresh artists struggle to stay relevant in spite of their multiple ventures along with their debut albums, let alone a singer who's been releasing pop music geared towards the charts for 25 years.

"The only problem in the way is her voice, and the health of it." I completely agree. Mariah herself said in an interview regarding her stronger pregnancy vocals, that it completely inspired her musically. Her voice is music. If she came back with a solid voice with that buttery/husky tonal quality again, people will remember the Mariah we all fell in love with.

Making music is not where the money is anymore, so artists need to do other things like selling their own perfume or water etc. Mariah's priority changed a lot after Dem Babies, she even said that music comes second now. I rather have her take the time to make a second MIAM with the proper promotion then her releasing anything at the moment without doing anything to make sure it sells and is promoted properly. If I have to wait another 2 years to get new music, that is fine by me, because I know the times of Mariah releasing an album almost every year are over. Her focus is somewhere else and I can't blame her for that.

Must be well-respected MC (56,332)
by Malcolm from Asia

Earlier, I read some articles about Beyonce and after I read this one, I cannot avoid but to think about Mariah. Beyonce and her team really puts effort on her image, every inch of the details are calculated, and now it benefits her by being highly respected of everyone. Beyonce is one of the few independent female artist that reflects to their image and as a whole. Yes, Mariah is independent but I only see it in a creative and artistic level and few people knows and recognize it. In past years, whenever Mariah had interviews, she is like unconfident with her statements and lacking on substance and affirmation. So I really commend her when she is having an article interviews like the recent ones, she is more expressive and professional. I know for sure that her publisher edits it when needed like what Beyonce's doing and that's not wrong because you have an image to take care of. As a legend like her, she really deserve to be highly-respected but she must do it on her own, because respect can't be demanded, it is earned. Now is the time for her to be mature when she's in public, lessen the ensembles, the diva-attitude and other things that puts her on critical "moments" because at her age, it's really not that good. I really admire Beyonce by saying this "I felt like I wanted to follow the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire and show other women when you get to this point in your career you don’t have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success - you do it yourself." I really wish MC is like this and not depends on "epic" decisions that is uncertain.

Making a statement of my own opinion is just that, as is anyone else's. Mariah is more than free to do any business venture outside of music she wants to and I support freedom of anyone to do that. However that's obviously not helping her music career in the slightest. Is it? Most of these ventures have been post E=MC2. I'm not interested in it honestly and if a grown adult can honestly be excited about a children's book over Mariah providing us with new music, lol, than more power to you. I'm happy for you. But for me I would rather have creative, inventive new music. You know what she is known for. Those 18 #1's, not her 18 nail polish colors.

Mariah's children's book (56,330)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

If Mariah wants to release a children's book for Christmas, why must it be assumed she's being manipulative, or looking for a money grab from fans? I mean sure, every business person wants their ventures to succeed, but Christmas is her self-proclaimed favorite time of year. She's a mom. Yes, a very famous mom, but a mom nonetheless. A children's Christmas book could be a really nice keepsake to pass on to her kids. Give her a break.

I think it's a bit sad that Mariah's spoiled her fans so much over the years that they actually pigeon hole her for doing anything other than music. We may have had to wait for new music for 3 years or "studio" for 5 years, but MC's been trying to get that album out since 2012. It had Glitter era stigma from the improper team to one of the worst times to release an album on top of everything else. She may not want to make any new music right now, especially since the last album wasn't appreciated. It might be best because the last time MC fell in love she dropped the ball in the middle of a hit album. Most people go through 3-5 careers in a lifetime. Mariah did nothing but music for a decade, only to replace the rate of album output with extensive touring. She took on acting and then expanded hobbies we already knew she had. I think at this point it's ridiculous to say she's doing this all for the money. She doesn't need to work, she's career driven, and trying out other ventures. Automatic Princess, OPI nail polish, modeling, and HSN only lasted a year each. She moved on to other ventures to try out. She has kids now so it makes sense that she'd want to try something inspired by them. I doubt MC expects her male fans to buy her girly products or adult fans to buy a children's book. She's getting older and wants to try out other careers than just music, but music is what she's known for which is why these options are open to her in the first place.

So Beyonce can make 115 million a year doing everything including music and Mariah can't because it's crap. Thats a double standard that Mariah will never appreciate. Like seriouslly people Mariah for 16 years did nothing but give quality music and had to overcome the unimaginable. I am grateful Mariah is using her legacy to expand her brand and it's working for her. I still feel she loves music and she even stated it but if she doesn't brand herself in other areas, Beyonce and everyone else gets all the attention. Mariah doesn't have to compete. She chooses to and can do what she damn pleases. Remember this. Full artistry equals talent equals money earned equals respect equals revelency. This method is the new foundation of which the music industry runs. Kudos to Mariah Carey for realizing she needed to expand her brand to stay competitive. She's not supposed to tap out and say I don't care anymore. That's what I feel most of you want because that's all you are saying when you say what she is doing is crap.

Really, because it doesn't look like it to me. I know I've been with the "Mariah needs this/that". But again, and I'm sure others would agree. That Mariah needs the people who styled her during the Emancipation era. Her ensembles were on point. Like B stated, she still has the looks but desperately needs a better styling team. Even on "AI" she was looking great. Just the other day I watched her finale medley performance. She looked so stunning.

I'm so passionate about Mariah (56,323)

Mariah is love, you can never have enough Mariah. She will be "back" there is no doubt. It's by God's grace that she is still here with us, her legacy is not yet fully fulfilled. Mariah is so lucky to be at the sweet spot that no one has ever attained, ever. It's somewhere between being a legend and being and being in her prime. She is a legend, yet she is still in her prime. Her star is not going to fade. I mean listen to the music, it speaks for itself. I'm listening to Charmbraclet right now and I'm still blown. This talent is not ordinary. For example take "Clown", it's epic and underrated. Mariah is so underrated, she will surpass every artist including the Beatles and people will be in awe. Just watch. THe only problem in the way is her voice, and the health of it. This is the honest truth. And getting a star on the Walk 25 years into her career is very symbolic. It means she feels she's only half way through. In 2000 Mariah said that she is "just getting started". Emancipation was just getting the ball rolling. We are not in the end of her career, we are in the middle, the sweet spot.

I want a bombastic rhapsody (56,321)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

An unapologetically melodic explosion that breaks every rule and preconceived notion of what "works" on radio. Give me an 18 minute song that defies genres. It's a pity I can't fully flesh out the real ideas on account of these ubiquitous eaves droppers ready to JLo every good damn post. Some of you luckily don't have to worry about that. Most of the stuff I think up I can't post because they've never been done on the grand scale or executed as well as Mariah would end up doing them. In that regard, James Packer is right on the money: Mariah Carey is a musical genius. I wonder sometimes if she even realises how little she's tapped into her full potential. I'm of the school of thought that she could fly solo a lot more than she's let herself. I'd like to hear Mariah as she is without the direct input of other musicians, producers, executives etc. What would her music sound like in an emergency situation, where she had to rely completely on just her own agency? I contend her only real competition these days is herself. So I say cut out the middleman. Sistas are doing it for themselves, I hope some of that independence rubs off on you from working with Diane. But I'm gonna leave this up just for the hell of it and hope Team Mariah sees it before the shadow people do.

I get your angle of Mariah being the standard of artists being compared to and she doesn't need a comeback, she's always been here. Yes she's never totally disappeared for years at a time from the public is true. However, with the exception of MIAM we have not had new "quality" music, and the focus has not been on music for a good 5-6 years. It's is however on all this other filler cr*p (in my opinion). That being nail polish, perfume, sugar water, video game commercials, Home Shopping Network, Jenny Craig spokes person, schmaltzy queen of Christmas, now children's book philanthropist. The list goes on. As a fan since the early ninties, now 30, I find it somewhat insulting being dished out these business ventures and teased with the excitement of "new things coming". I'm wondering who the target audience is? A children's book to gain young children as fans for her music? I think not. That's just about the money. I have been supporting her career for years, recently going to Vegas this past July, 4th row and can attest to her still amazing vocals. However I want the music. Good quality music. It concerns me as a fan of 21+ years she is uninspired and focusing more on money making ventures and no longer music. The core audience fan base, at least those of us 30+, are not interested in children's books. Then again I can only speak for myself.

I would love for her to write and sing with Sam Smith and Adele. Mariah needs to write timeless lyrics. Adele and Sam are proving that well written songs with a vintage sound still sell and we all know that that is the type of songs her fans want from her. She did just that on MIAM but the songs didn't really have any memorable hooks/choruses. MIAM is the thinking fan's Mariah Carey album. It requires the listener to repeatedly listen to the songs to fully understand their brilliance with the exception of #Beautiful.

I left Rainbow and E=MC2 off the list because only the lead singles had amazing videos, Heartbreaker and Touch My Body. Mariah did look stunning during both eras but I think she looked her best during the E=MC2 era.

Me too. Those were great eras. "The Emancipation Of Mimi" was awesome. It probably will always be my favorite era. The whole album is a gem. I feel "Me I am Mariah" would have been another great era, with "Beautiful" off to a nice start. I felt like Mariah went back to the good music with that song. And it's still by far her best effort and single in my opinion. I also think she should work with Miguel and Happy Perez again. They could most likely come up with another great song. Lastly, I would love her to include at least one or two current artists on her next album. Say Sam Smith.
