Heartbreaker (55,143) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
This song does not get old. It's definitely in my top 3 of her 18 #1's. This song is just so fun and fresh and I must not be the only one who busts a move with the chorus, especially the last one and also lip sync to the whistle (HB's whistle is my #1 favorite, the second is LTT's whistle from the live versions where it's more prominent compared to the original). I just love this, sometimes I will hear this so much that I will try to take a break from it and then after a while when I hear it again, it just gives me the same feeling I got when I first listened to it. The video is definitely one of my favorites. The remix is divine, I love how she goes from the fun-flirty and bubbly voice for the original (matching the video with the pink crochet top and cute hair) to the slowed down sultry and sexy voice she uses for the remix. I love the usual Heartbreaker and HB remix medley she does in her shows. I also really love the Junior's remix and it just shows how great she is with remixes. I love the layering of "if you should ever be lonely with gimme your love". The chorus of the Junior's remix is I think kinda haunting and I love how she goes "don't go and break my heart, no no why why did you have to run your game on me". I know I started almost all the sentences with "I love" but I really do love this song. I wish she'd sing this more in her TV appearances now (not just her personal concerts) because this song still has the potential to capture the younger audiences).

Nikki / "Emotions" (55,142) by Billy from Greece
Nikki, you're right, the second album was at some point almost called "The Wind" but the actual track was never intended to be the first single (on the basis of the research I've done over the last couple of decades). The original first single was to be "You're So Cold".

Nikki (55,141) by Bill from the UK
I think the first planned single from Emotions was in fact "You're So Cold", at least according to Mariah's official biography and numerous other sources. You are correct though in that the album was originally titled The Wind, which I think would have been cool as Mariah was named after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah". Not sure why Emotions was picked as the album title, perhaps after the success of the song, or indeed because the themes of the songs on the album themselves cover a range of emotions across their subject matter. Love, gladness, sadness, faith, anger, mourning etc.

Re: snubs (55,140) by nikki from usa
I believe that the Grammys began a backlash against Mariah after she came out with hip-pop. I think what few people acknowledge is how much music was segregated in the 90's and whether folks like to admit it or not Mariah had a lot to do with breaking those barriers down. When MC came out with ODB on Fantasy it was groundbreaking and unheard of. MC alluded to "I got into a lot of trouble for that" in more than one interview and talked about how the "powers that be" were pissed. I don't believe she was simply referring to just Mottola there. Rap was the worst selling genre and not taken seriously by music higher ups as a legitimate genre of music. She brought that to the pop industry and certain people were pissed, even more so after she popularized it and turned it into a staple. The '96 Grammys actually featured her in their commercials for presenting an award and singing live on stage that year to get people to watch. She was up for 6 and won none. In '05 when she left her competition who were lucky to go double platinum in the dust with so many sales and hit singles the Grammys were forced to acknowledge her. You can tell it's begrudgingly because they wouldn't allow her to accept her awards on stage or live during the show. If MC wasn't so over the top successful that year they would've swept her under the rug.

Every article that I've read states that You're So Cold was going to be the lead single and was switched to Emotions at the last minute.

Since you asked: Alexis (55,136) by nikki from usa
The Wind was actually supposed to be the first single and album title for Emotions according to an article I read in the 90's. Mottola liked Emotions better and thought it was a hit track so both were switched to that. The Wind is so unconventional as pop music goes, it would have been interesting to see how the public responded to it. I concur with Mimi about Rainbow. Mariah saw a double rainbow. According to Mariah, Heartbreaker was originally intended for Glitter. Rainbow wasn't supposed to happen. She thought HB was such a fresh and "now" track she felt she needed to get it out right then. She threw the album together in 3 months.

Actually, the line "and I dream the impossible dream when you and I are alone" from Money is more likely to be a reference to the very well known song "The Impossible Dream" made famous by Andy Williams. Lyrically, it doesn't work in the same context for it to be a reference to the song "The Impossible" from Memoirs, and Mariah has never said it is a reference to that song, so I'm not sure where you got that from. "The Impossible Dream" is a very uplifting song about fighting for what you believe in, and given the context of Money being about love being stronger than material items, it makes more sense that's she is singing about her dreaming that her and Nick are together fighting for what they believe in and fighting together against their enemies etc.

Thank you for the positive shout out. I don't comment much but I do come to this forum everyday and observe commentary. I am pleased by how chill it's been on here lately. I am pleased the webmaster is helping to keep it chill and he has done a great job keeping this website a fan site. On a side note I am pleased to say Mariah Carey's residency is selling out pretty darn fast for this month. Today's show is sold out and the rest are 50%-90% sold out. I don't like how Sundays' sales have been lately. These shows are selling better than her May shows. I remember tickets still being available for the first May show. This first show in July there are zero tickets available.

Money (55,132) by B from USA
Money references The Impossible from Memoirs which was Mariah's song to Nick. It is not about Packer and the sequence doesn't mean a thing. Suggesting Mariah was having an affair with Packer is absurd.

Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan (55,131) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Apart from the "use of the different textures of her voice and different sounds" explanation she also said that after she finished the album she was going somewhere and she looked up in the sky and there was a double rainbow in the sky so she took it as a sign.

All I'm gonna say (55,129) by Kyle from USA
About Wendy, Jennifer Lopez and any other entertainment personality is the reason they throw shade is pure jealousy. Everyone with a career in entertainment strives to be known across the world, strives for the success and strives for the half of billion dollars Mariah Carey as accumulated. Mariah's career is what these women wished for, daydreamed and prayed about when they were younger and still to this day. Mariah Carey is the poster child of success, rich, famous. Though these women have success, money and mild fame, they will never be the level of Mariah Carey, and that probably pisses them off. But as my father used to say, "It doesn't matter what people say about you as long as they are talking about you, you are relevant."

My responce to Licia / Packer / Me I Am Mariah (55,127) by Amber C from USA
Are you referring to "Money"? If that's the case I don't know because at that time she was kind of still grieving Nick. But the lyrics kinda do go with his lifestyle. But the sequence of where she put it in the album could also suggest otherwise don't you think? I always thought the song was referring to the high point of Mariah and Nick's marriage. The melody to me seems like "the good old days". Also "cause I come home to you" doesn't suggest her new relationship because as far as I'm concerned she never came home with James.

MC multimedia (55,126) by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
With the demise of many Mariah sites (for reasons I don't fully understand), where is one to get Mariah media? For example, where can one obtain the audios from the Vegas shows? Back in the day, entire concerts had been ripped and ready for your iPod in hours.

Advanced Mariah (55,125) by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
I know most of the stories about how Mariah came up with the names for her albums, but I'm fuzzy on one. Has she ever said why she named the second album "Emotions"? I wanna say that I read somewhere that the title came from the song which was inspired (some say a rip off) by the group The Emotions. Confirm anyone? Rainbow? I know she said something about the different textures of her voice-relating it to the title, but did she ever say anything else about this title? I remember hearing the album was gonna be titled "Limelight". Confirm anyone?

Wendy (55,122) by Leigh from USA
Has anyone seen or heard the [...] narrative about Mariah being deceased and replaced by clones for the past 23 years? I am still lmao. Wendy should hook up with that clown and they may find that they both have so much in common that they'll pursue peace and world harmony through some conspiacy theory using famous people as vehicles to infiltrate all humanity (the theme from [...] is playing in my mind now). What's really kind of frightening is that it sounds like the person truly believes what is being stated. I'm not sure, but from the sounds of it Wendy may be related to the person narrating the video. Just saying lol. Here's the address.

Wendy (55,121) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
At this point Wendy is like that one annoying, delusional over talkative aunt (or relative) that everyone has in their families that come over with the most ridiculous gossip and they blabber on and on and the rest of the family (in Wendy's case, her audience) just sits and lets her wear herself off and occasionally nod (pretending to be in agreement) just so she'll end the story and shut up. She was the one who kept saying Mariah should get a billionaire businessman outside of Hollywood then when Mariah actually got one (I am not saying MC is with JP for the money, she has plenty to last her a couple of lifetimes) anyways so when MC gets one, Wendy's jealousy reaches a new height and her cattiness goes off the roof. She probably thought MC will never get another man. Now she is playing cheap cards like displaying James' picture and pausing for effect, encouraging people to laugh at him because he isn't the most good looking man on Earth. So shallow. Like I said before she is still at high school level where the main priority in dating is to land someone hot and people do everything to make their ex jealous. She tries to pretend that she is fair with her opinions but please Wendy we all can see you getting almost green with envy. MC at her worst will be taken more seriously as a person and a professional than Wendy on her best day. She is a joke, end of story.

In Vegas now for show tomorrow (55,120) by Leigh from USA
I'm here in Vegas. I am excited and a little anxious, but I hope to see a fantastic show tomorrow night. For once, I will get to see and hear first hand whether [...] is on her game or not and will be able to provide a first hand opinion of her voice and the show. I am going into this with expectations that her voice has matured with age, but even at that, there still ain't no one who can touch her when she's on it. And even if she's not 100%, it's all real and way better than most today.

Wendy (55,119) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Her name has been thrown around here in and out countless times and I have never even cared to react on anything she said until now. The reason for this is the fact that she's self-destructive and even better, is seemingly unaware of it. I'm sure even some of her most loyal followers aren't blind to how maddeningly inconsistent her opinions are. With how carelessly she talks, he's a hazard to herself, she's her own karma. I'm not wishing it on her, but it's just a matter of time. And now we play the waiting game. . .

Licia / Packer / Me I am Mariah (55,116) by Tevin from USA
Now I need to go back and listen to the MIAM album to see if there is any hints about Mr. Packer in it. Mariah's song "[...]" was added last minute, at a time when her and [...] was [sic] starting (or at least publicly) to fall apart. Didn't she say the album was about things going on in her life? The song "[...]" has Packer written all over it. Does anyone agree with me?

Aghhh to Wendy Williams (55,115) by Carol from Spain
I really took some time before saying something about it but let's just have a reality check and admit that Wendy Williams has a beef of some sort with Mariah. (Yes I know we know that for a long time) I think talk show hosts should be punished for making such bad comments about people, famous or not, because when the comments go over the edge of ridicule it's just that bad. Wendy's comments on Mariah's sex life just made me wanna puke. It's hard to conceive someone would pay that human being to go that low. I hope, eventually, in my lifetime, I see Mariah give her the answer she deserves for years of abuse and insults.
