"MC on the radio" (57,132)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
I have been hearing Mariah on the radio a lot more lately. At the grocery store they played "Always Be My Baby". Then, in the car a few hours later, I heard "It's Like That". Anyone else hearing MC on the radio? I love when that happens. I would really love to hear some new music soon. I hope things are in the works. Peace and love to all.

Performances during the MIAM era (57,131)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
With regards to the performances, don't forget "Meteorite" (the delay was not her fault), her Jimmy Fallon/New Year's Eve performances with TAOLG, the Macy/AI/Hot Summer Jam/GMA/Hurricane Sandy concert/BET Awards (remix version) performances of #Beautiful on top of the two that were already listed. Two performances leading up to and during the MIAM era? Nope. Spread out overall, but she performed.

Re: JD, the horrible manager (57,122) (57,130)

Both JD and Randy Jackson should not have been selected as managers. Not because they are not good enough, but because they are her close friends. A manager should be someone, like you put it "going to be on her ass everyday and nag her for not getting up, and going to work". I think neither Randy nor Jermaine would be able to do that to Mariah. I still feel bad how the lambs attacked JD to the point JD had to fight back and actually say something like "You guys should ask Mariah." Anyways what's gone is gone. I hope they are still friends even if they don't collaborate. There are very few genuine people left in Mariah's circle.

It's weird that they don't talk about Mariah at all. They mention JLo in every other episode. Madonna gets some screen time here and there but Mariah is hardly brought up. Thank God I was old enough to understand the success that was TEOM. That era was perfection. Yes, she did have more success before that in the 90s, but in 2005, Mariah came into her own. She was fierce, she was confident, she was everywhere. In the 90s she didn't have the fierceness and confidence. By 2005 she realized what a major star she is, and the success of TEOM added to that. It is definitely hard for a new lamb, especially now because Mariah has been having a low time since 2009 and 2014 is probably one of her worst years. It's especially sad that "I'm a Mariah fan" is usually met by "are you joking" or "okay... moving on". Not that it stops me from reminding people about her numerous accolades every chance I get. I need Mariah to come back one more time and just shut everyone up. No, the "she has nothing to prove" argument won't satisfy me. After the way she was dragged through the dirt these past few years, she needs to remind people that she is second to none. She is the ultimate songstress. Once she does that, everyone else will jump on the bandwagon.

Missed videos (57,128)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
One thing that will probably forever irk me about MIAMTEC is that we never got the videos. Two videos off an album, really? In my heart of hearts YDKWTD would have been a stone groove smash hit wonder if it was setup properly. Oh well. For a nostalgic moment, in Breakdown when Mariah first appears as the showgirl and does that turn (you know what I'm talking about) still gives me life. Flawless. Queen. Weave snatched. How dare she look so gorgeous. Anyways, I hope all is going smoothly with the movie and her vision will be visualized haha. Would be totally adorable if Dembabies make a cameo as students from across the hall who has grinch for a teacher, or whatever.

A lot of what you said about JD and that time period only works in retrospect and out of chronological order. I also have to disagree about MC's efforts. She pushed that single for a whole month with radio interviews and debuting 2 music videos on the music channels personally. She did 3 magazines with new photos and an NBC special. Her team was so MIA we never got a heads up about any of these things and they went unnoticed by lamb and public alike. MC went to finish her album while her label was supposed to support the single and JD was supposed to schedule more promo for her publicity leading up to the release of the album. MC came out after a month to find her label never supported the track, it was already dead in the water, and JD never added any dates. Mariah pushed everything back to add in last minute dates herself. JD came out talking about all these "great ideas" he had 3 weeks *after* her album dropped. Then, 2 weeks later started to complain how MC wouldn't listen to him. After 15 years of "if Jermaine likes it than I like it" didn't disappear on a whim, but for a reason. He let her down. JD was busy with his own stuff, he shouldn't have accepted that job.

Mimi and Clevver (57,126)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
So I ran across a baby lamb on Clevver who asked why don't they talk about Mariah. And I totally get what he was going through at that age, 16 year old being in love with Mariah. All they want is to see their goddess be celebrated and loved. It's just so adorable and cute. I mean even at my legendary lamb status I want that too. But being that young and in school, oh dear can you imagine all his friends teasing him about Rockefeller last year. Ok maybe a big dramatic but yeah. I've said it before but I hope Mariah makes that darn comeback and bitch slap everyone so the baby lambs can rejoice.

Norman, nice to see you posting too. I like when the messageboard is full of different points of views. It's what has made it so interesting for 16 years now. I don't think anybody is a troll here, or just posting for the sake of hating on Mariah. I just do believe that we are different people with different opinions, and we don't want to be chastised or vituperated for expressing them following the main rules of the board. I can't stand bullies or people who are always looking for something to start feuds, or looking to the fifth leg on a four-legged table, in order to start fights of course. I know we are all guilty of reading too much into something sometimes.

JD / Babyface (57,124)
by Giovanni from USA

I will always be grateful for JD's work with Mariah. They make great music together. I also would want her to work with Babyface again but I have no idea where he is today. Mariah needs to deliver with her next album if she wants more success. The music has to be good. So many potential hits that are on "Me I am Mariah" that went to waste.

I really wish the public and critics would give Mariah universal love the way they are giving Janet right now. Janet has this huge record, tour and all the critics love. Sad but true. Mariah's last cd was better than Janet's.

JD, the horrible manager (57,122)
by Chris from United States
| |
|
|
I notice a lot of people are still kinda judging him on his managing skills, or lack there of. I honestly believe he was just put in place, because MC knew very well she didn't want to be all over the place at that time. She needed a manager that wasn't going to be on her ass everyday and nag her for not getting up, and going to work. She also needed someone that wasn't going to ask a lot of questions either, because she didn't want to say anything to anyone. Releasing it at that time in her life, just further lets you know how strong this woman really is; she is definitely a fighter. I do feel bad for JD, because he was a whipping boy, but he was just doing a dear friend a favor. Now, that's what I call a real, loving friend.

Bill, dude , hehe no apologies, please. I was just saying. I laughed after I read your reply, because as I read it, I literally uttered "no, no, no", when you were apologizing as if you you could actually hear me. (Yep, I'm that daft sometimes.) I know it wasn't full on mea culpa, but still. Red Light Special, though, that just oozed sexy. OK, back to Mariah.

Hey Norman. Nothing wrong with syrupy schmaltz in my opinion either lol, I didn't know how else to describe Babyface's production style. Never Forget You is one of my faves from Music Box and I have loved all three songs Mariah has done with Babyface (Melt Away and When You Believe the others). I've long been hoping for them to reunite and work their magic once more. Sorry if my post came across as anti-Babyface, I'll be a bit more careful next time I write something. I love the song, love him, and love his style and their work together. No "shade" intended (gets struck by lightning).

Hey, Bill. I happen to love the original Never Forget You just as it was produced by Babyface. Granted, it's all subjective. Besides, I'm not sure if you were talking about his production style as a whole, or only on this song. Either way I would disagree. I actually wish they'd worked together a couple more times, especially when you consider how great they sound together. Is his production style dramatic and tend to lean heavily on the romantic/sexual undertones? For damn sure. But there's a line, and the man doesn't* even straddle it, IMO, of course. (* Unless it's Unbreak My Heart on repeat for the millionth time. That's [caps] when things get real. Lol.) Just saying, though. Hope all is well.

Yes, Babyface produced Never Forget You. But JD remixed the song for the single release (the radio, extended and instrumental versions were remixed by him, removing all the trademark Babyface syrupy schmaltz).

The writer also forgot to mention Fantasy and One Sweet Day both debuted at #1 on the BB Hot 100, making Mariah the first female to do so twice and with One Sweet Day atop for 16 consecutive weeks, Mariah holds the record for the longest-running #1 streak since the chart started in the 1950's.

That would be a welcome change. It makes more sense and has a better title recall. Besides, those are simply Mariah's initials in reverse order.

Sorry Lee. I respectfully disagree. JD could have been a great manager had they not already had a 20 plus year friendship. Lambs nailed that man to a cross for what she was or better yet, was not doing regarding her last album. She wouldn't listen and did what she felt she wanted. It was horrible timing to have an album released while all this personal drama was happening in the background. Even if the label wasn't going to provide much support, she could have really promoted the hell out of it and provided good live performances. If you look back, she only performed twice during that era (BET You're Mine performance and Today Show with You Don't Know What To Do). I know lambs were flipping out with all the pushbacks but I wouldn't have minded another pushback in order for her to handle whatever was happening personally. JD is always spot on when it comes to Mariah and what she should be doing and lets face it, he was instrumental in her big comeback with having her go back to basics with great songs, great lyrics and big vocals a la Classic Mariah. Regardless of our tastes, the last three albums all had songs that could have been big but she paid them dust. The drive was gone to promote appropriately and her career suffered for it. I do hope that they continue to make music together, forget Walter's shady ass, especially with what he had to say about her publically when she was down during the Chanteuse Tour, reunite with JD.

Haha true, TEOM was fire because that's what Mariah and JD are capable of. Their last collaboration MILG was amazing too. It was different from any of her previous songs and one of the highlights of MIAM. I will always admire JD because he gives it straight to MC. A lot of people around her may be too in awe of her (or nervous) about saying no to her or telling her to make changes in the song but JD always speaks his mind. Even in the videos they post from the studio, Mariah always jokes about how Jermaine is being a pain (not in the exact words) but she obviously knows he is probably saying it for the best since she does take it into consideration. Like how he told her not to sing her heart out on WBT instead of doing the whole thing in whisper register. They understand each other musically I guess. I am always up for some Jermash-Mimi collabs. They always come up with great songs and remixes. (The So So Def remix of Say Something and the So So def remix of H.A.T.U. were hot tamale.)
