Rock and Roll HOF (57,175)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
While I would be super happy if it did happen (because I love me some Mariah recognition/accolades), but it's fine really. Mariah is (all caps) the music industry. We can say that alteast 50% of the current music industry artists have been influenced by Mariah's style/voice/songwriting. New celeb lambs are popping up every now and then. If the Walk of Fame happened after so many years, the HOF will happen too. Even if it doesn't it's fine, we as lambs should be used to having Mariah not getting enough credit. Do I want the HOF accolade? Hell ya, I want Mariah on the Hall of Fame, the Walk of Fame, Stair of Fame, Mall of Fame, whatever there is. But it'll probably take time and that's fine. Best of luck to the current nominations. I hope Janet gets it. She is a terrific performer and an icon in her own right. Her choreography, her music style, her fashion have all been iconic. Mariah-Janet collaboration petition (hashtag).

I would have been surprised if she had actually been nominated, let alone inducted, in her first year of eligibility. To me the RRHOF and Mariah don't seem to match. Just look at the inductees. Those are very different artists from Mariah. Is she just as influential? Absolutely. However I wouldn't be surprised if it took at least another 5-10 years for her to even be considered. I think if anything, Mariah would be far more proud to be inducted in to the songwriting hall of fame (and she damn well deserves it).

Sure, Mariah deserves the recognition and it would be a nice thing to add to her accolades, but there's nothing (not other artists, or anything else) that will ever change her legacy both musically, and as a human being.

Lol, the shade to Madonna and Janet. But I agree. Awards are a joke today. So many basic, lesser artists getting nominated and awarded. But legends like Mariah get ignored and treated as if she's nothing. I don't care anymore. All I want is for Mariah to have another successful era. She needs amazing songs and videos. As well as one or two good collaborations. I also need the cover art of the album to be decent and nice.

Unlike Madonna and Janet, Mariah's voice is amazing. She's considered the best singer ever. Google the best singer in the world and the results are Mariah, Elvis, and Ms. Dion. She is also a talented songwriter and producer. She's also a pioneer. I hope she's inducted but if she isnt it's not that big of a deal. She's a living legend.

Mariah snubbed on Rock And Roll Hall of Fame (57,165)
by Juan Antonio from Venezuela
| |
|

No surprise here. If Rolling Stone magazine is an indication of how people at RRHOF select their nominees, then Mariah must wait a few good years to even be considered. Did you read that article posted here? it seems Mariah must wait until other fellow snubbed R&B divas (Janet, Whitney, and a long etc) get inducted first, lol. How was Madonna inducted as soon as she was ellegible (25 years of career)? It seems it takes a good lobby and US $ to get "lucky". Sad yet predictable.

Licia, honestly the only thing that comes to mind about the uproar about JD as manager is that people, without even realizing it, like to create drama. I view the whole thing pretty much the same. He's a good friend who loves and respect her, and will tell her things straight forwardly. People don't need to agree all the time to be genuinely good friends.

Mara, it was the nominations that were announced, not the inductees. It took Janet a good few years to get in there, though I doubt Mariah will have it easier. But who gives a rat's ass about awards anymore.

I've been seeing some articles predicting this years Rock Hall nominees, and Mariah was among almost all of them. To think that Mariah was going to be a first ballot shoo-in was unrealistic, there simply are no precedents to indicate a Mariah Carey induction. Donna Summer is one that comes to mind, but she wasn't considered until years after her initial eligibility date. And when she died, they finally put her through (surprise, surprise). Whitney was considered the first year she was eligible, but they passed. There were rumblings of her induction the year she died (I was one who thought Clive Davis' strong connections could pull it off), but I guess the Hall didn't want to seem conformist to the hoopla of mass media. But anyways I think we should stop giving things like the Rock Hall so much meaning. It's just another award once you think about it. Some get them and some don't, either way you just gotta move on. Some of the greatest pop performers in history have absolutely zero chance of even having their photograph hung on a wall in that museum (Sinatra, Streisand, Garland, Fitzgerald, Crosby). And lest we forget leathery divas like Cher, Warwick, Labelle, Parton, Cline, whose careers predate Mariah's birth, and yet are still excluded from the museum. I've seen the list of inductees over the past few years, and there are only a handful of acts that seem exciting, so my prediction is that in the coming years they'll start putting in more pop acts to drive ticket sales. I really think the presence of the Santa leotard or Fantasy roller-skates or the Heartbreaker knit crop top, or the endless memorabilia from Mariah's storied career will excite viewer attraction much more than, say, a battered guitar from a B-list "rock" group or a wrinkled piece of hand written lyric by some uncharted singer-songwriter.

She should get in on the first ballot. I mean, how many artists could say they have more number 1 hits than Elvis? How many artists could boast about topping the singles charts for 10 years straight and winning Song of the Decade twice? Her antics aren't half as bad as making porn, sleeping with kids, and abusing drugs (and significant others). Artists who've done worst had gotten in without any protest.

Thanks so much for the swift response. I'm even more excited now, squeeling like a little girl yeey haha. I love Christmas themed things. I'm just guessing but surely the Hallmark movie will go directly to video, generally they do that with movies with holiday subjects. I would really like to see Mariah once more in the big screen. Right now, I'm truly glad for all the new music that might come on the way. She is Christmas genius. Thanks again for the good info.

Well the new inductees were announced today and while I'm happy for Janet and how it seems to be her year with the great album and everything else, I am disappointed that Mariah wasn't one of them. Mariah is so underrated and is beyond one of the most talented artists out there. Her song writing, composure and delivery is what sets her apart and above the rest. Oh well... maybe next year.

I went through a phase recently of playing Without You on constant rotation. Normally I just listen to it as and when it appears on albums and compilations, but I had my singles I put on my iPod playing continuously. They were a great set as the first CD included Never Forget You and a live version of Dreamlover from the Thanksgiving special, and the second CD had the ballads Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time and I'll Be There present. Just a really great collection of tracks across the two releases.

Ok so over the past few days I've had the song Forever stuck in my head, not sure why as I haven't really paid much attention to it before, yet when I finally played it out loud I realised what a gem it is. I love the emotion in her voice and how she stretches the words, the vocals just flow through the song its crazy. Just out of curiosity, what song/songs are people listening to lately that they didn't really listen to before and why do you like listening to it so now?

I don't get how JD was unprofessional. I'm surprised he didn't go off sooner than when he did. Those lambs were wrong for treating him the way they did and they deserved the treatment that they got from him. How long was he supposed to sit there and allow those crazies to attack him? Mariah fans are becoming worse than Beyonce fans.

So yeah, I found that there is an IMDB page for the movie through the actor Brennan Elliott who's part of the film. I don't really recognize the guy. I don't know how much of the information is true but if you look at the crew, it's the initial people that were attached to the New Line Cinema deal with the writers and producers. So my best guess is that the deal didn't go through and the project got watered down to a made for TV movie. Or she is still involved with 2 Christmas movies, who knows? So since we know Lacey Chabert and Brennan are involved, I'm thinking Lacey is probably the little girl's mom and she falls in love with Brennan's character. Ok nevermind, it says New Line Cinema is part of it in company credits. I don't know, I still think there's only one Christmas movie. You know I never really noticed it until recently but RatPac Ent. is pretty huge, they're involved with a lot of movies. I keep seeing their logo during the previews in the theater. Good for them. So I highly doubt they would be involved with such a small project. Actually, maybe there were creative differences and since it was Mariah's initial idea/story for the film she took it to Hallmark lol. She didn't want it to be homogenized.

About holiday projects (57,154)
by CDC from CA

To sum it up for those who are confused: Mariah is working on two Christmas themed movies. The first is currently in production for the Hallmark channel. For this film, Mariah acts as both the director and star. As noted in the tidbit of information provided by the Hallmark channel in a preview of their 2015 holiday programming lineup, the story concerns a young girl in a new town struggling to write a Christmas song. Mariah will play her music teacher. TMZ released a report stating that Mariah will not appear as an actor, however the Hallmark channel confirmed that she is, directly responding to TMZ via twitter. How much gravitas Mariah's role is in relation to the bulk of the film, well, we'll just have to wait until mid November once the Hallmark holiday lineup begins. The second of the two Christmas movies will be a feature film distributed by New Line Cinema. This film will be financed and produced by Brett Ratner's production company Ratpack Entertainment. Absolutely nothing is known of the script, screenwriter, actors, production involvement, etc. All that is currently known has been revealed by Mariah herself at the time the film was sold to its backing studio: that Mariah's physical presence will not be seen on screen, but rather referred or implied through her music. No date of production or premiere has been released. Two projects of different formats, stories, and people in involvement, but both about Christmas and Mimi.

I thought it was Brett who was going to direct the movie for Hallmark and that's why RatPac was going to have a hand in it but it seems it's not like that neither, I'm truly confused as well. I'm amazingly happy that it is Mariah who is directing it though, because she is great at that. I hope she does appear in her own movie, even if it's for a little bit, maybe singing a festive song.

I am confused by the articles. Some are saying that she is starring in the movie as a music teacher, others are saying she will only direct it. I am also confused about how many Christmas movies she is involved in. There was supposed to be one with RatPac and then we heard about another with Hallmark.

That song is so beautiful. It was the only reason I bought Babyface's album back in the days and the only one I owned, not to say Mariah put a hand in that album as well so I was delighted, the whole album was really a charm. I also agree with all the ones who said Mariah should work again with Babyface, but as a duet rather than one or the other being in the background. Their voices go so well together. What a blast from the past. I too wonder where has he been as of late?
