Christmas again? (53,925) by Liz Archer from Sweden
Mariah Carey, not sure I want to see another rehash of the Christmas album or AIWFC song again. If it's part of the movie with story, fine I might watch the movie but probably not buy the album/soundtrack. Haven't this song been milked out enough now? I want to hear new music.

Thanks. I don't care if they dated or not but he did provide some interesting behind the scenes information about Mariah's relationships with Tommy, Luis, and Eminem. It was an interesting read.

Merry Christmas (53,923) by B from USA
What is Reid doing? Releasing an updated version of #1's to coincide with the residency made sense but rereleasing Merry Christmas before the release of the film doesn't make sense to me. I guess it will coincide with the Beacon shows but it doesn't seem necessary. I guess I'm selfish because I want a new studio album.

Mariah needs a new direction (53,922) by Cgee54 from Usa
I really hope Mariah breaks the mold for her new album. She needs to reinvent herself once again. She can do something throwback with a modern twist a la Miguel. His latest single Coffee sounds pretty good. I'm sure Mariah would take instrumentals like that and turn them into masterpieces.

Damizza's book (53,921) by Dove from USA
I'm reading it now and he seems like a pretty cool guy. Thanks for posting it RJJ12.

Mariah (53,920) by B from USA
Mariah doesn't need a producer to save her and she doesn't need to record an album of standards. She's still relevant. She just scored a hit with #Beautiful. I love MIAM and Infinity. I hated Triumphant. Can Mariah score another #1? Absolutely. However, expecting Mariah Carey to save the industry or sell millions of albums is unrealistic. MIAM sold well considering the state of the recording industry. Albums don't sell and that is a fact. Katy Perry, Rhianna, and Lady Gaga struggled recently and their relatively new artists. However, I still think Mariah should work with new producers.

JD's comments (53,919) by Daydream327 from USA
I have been saying this for awhile. Mariah doesn't seem to take her career as serious as she once did. I don't know how to describe it but she just doesn't have that drive and passion anymore. She seems to do things now because she has to. She tends to put blame on everybody else when things go wrong in her career instead of being real with herself. Now before some of you start with the "she's worked hard enough already" or "now her career is not her priority but her family and kids are", Mariah is still one of the greatest singers of all time, (people do have expectations) and she still is an entertainer. She is also still putting out albums and performing. Yes, she has proved herself this is true, but she's at a point in her career where protecting that legacy is everything. I mean ask yourself how a woman who has accomplished so much in this industry rarely if ever gets the respect and recognition she deserves. Beyonce gets more praise, and she has not accomplished even half of what Mariah has. You know why? Because B has always taken her career serious. Mariah has not showed much growth musically or as an artist. And we all know she has had her ups and downs vocally. I feel if she's not gonna give it 100% and fully push herself then maybe she needs to take a break and raise her kids and come back when she's fully ready. Why continue to tarnish what you have worked so hard for? She's capable of so much more but I don't think she even cares or realizes it.

RJJ12 / Damizza's book / Bill (53,918) by Lee TS from USA
Wow, what a great read. Mariah's chapter reads like a movie it's so dramatic. The Glitter era really got me anxious and I was like stressing over what was happening to her. It seems like Damion was a great friend to her and I hope she finds great memories when thinking about him. I hope Mariah releases a memoir one day or a mini series as she likes to call it. They really do call the wind Mariah.

Mariah's being honest (53,917) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
She's been vocal about not liking much about her early music videos for years now. I think it's kind of funny that people are "shocked" by the rants. Maybe the general public that doesn't pay attention to any of her specials or interviews, but to anyone else? She's said the same types of things several times over in various things. She's not ragging on the fans or the music, but to me Mariah has always been a sensitive person, and that time in her life she felt like she had to hide to please people, so she's super critical of the videos because of how trapped she felt she was. If people are going to dismiss her for being honest about how she feels about something, there's nothing she can do about that.

For the love (53,916) by Jono from USA
It is clear that Mariah Carey is doing music because it is for the love. Echoing what many people have said on here, she no longer needs to prove herself. She said in a pre-Vegas interview, that in the 90s it was all about her career and her fear that the rug might be pulled out from underneath her and she'd be back living the difficult life she worked so hard to escape. Her kids are her main priorities now, and I think her setting a good example for her kids is far more important than anything she could accomplish career wise. Mariah is not going to be another one of those damaging stage parents that have ruined child stars, and she certainly isn't going to be absent like her father was. That is why I am not crazy about Mariah getting another #1 or trying to achieve some record, because her being a good parent for her kids is what makes me the most proud of her in this stage of her career. MC is never going to stop making music, but it's realistic to not expect her to be as diligent as she was in the 90s. She has other (more important) priorities now.

The state of Mariah Carey's career (53,915) by LC from USA
This is how I see the state of Mariah Carey's career at this point. She is an untouchable icon whose influence and impact on music is evident now more than ever. You wouldn't hear "Bad Blood" with Kendrick Lamar or "Dark Horse" with Juicy J or "Problem" with Iggy Azalea, some of the biggest worldwide hits of the past two years, without "Fantasy" with ODB. Her impact and legacy will forever live on in music. But, in recent years, her image has taken a huge downfall. What should she do? In my opinion, Mariah has everything she needs to do a complete turnaround of her image. She has been slowly dropping her weight, her team has been working at rebranding and reminding the public of her achievements, and, as seen in Vegas, her voice is still incredible. She has everything she needs to succeed, but she also has everything working against her. I agree with what Jermaine said to an extent (though I think it's stupid of him to broadcast his comments, what kind of friend are you?), but Mariah is in a completely different state in her career now. She isn't career-driven anymore because she has something else that drives her and makes her happy that she didn't have before. Her kids. And that's a beautiful thing. Though I do want Mariah to comeback and shut up the haters more than anything, I'm just glad she's still making music and cares enough about her fans to not go on an 8 year hiatus a la Janet Jackson. She's still here, and she can still come back. But, she does not have to.

L.A. Reid (53,913) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I'll try to not rant about L.A. more, but I just have to say, at this point, I don't really trust L.A. Reid anymore. He is trying to turn Mariah into something she is not. I don't know what went down at IDJ but they did give #Beautiful a good chance. The radio deal, the official video (albeit questionable), and the alternate Spanish version video was released on time, remixes were being churned out one after another and a remix video was in the works but unfortunately the accident happened. After that, MC delayed the album a few times and then settled on a date which happened to be around the time Kanye was going to release his much publicized album. I guess that's were things went sour that they couldn't handle two big releases at the same time and MC probably didn't like it. But even still YM(E) had good promo (radio wise) and remix timings along with two (again questionable but timely) videos to accompany them. The only thing missing at that point were the TV promotions and a good management for her image. I was initially really happy with her move to Epic, but I don't think L.A. really has a good plan for Mariah. Most of the work is being done by her management/publicist eitherways.

#1's (53,912) by Dove from USA
Mariah getting more #1's is not the most important thing to me as a fan but I don't like how she and L.A. Reid are making statements to the universe about how she won't be getting any more and nobody can beat The Beatles. That's like dropping out of college a semester before earning your PhD because it's too hard. They should at least aim for it and try. I won't stop being a fan if she never has a hit again but she only needs three more. I love The Beatles but Mariah deserves the most #1's record. Why can't anyone beat The Beatles? Is there a conspiracy? Am I missing something? Mariah still makes good music and she is still marketable. If there is some conspiracy, someone just needs to make TPTB see that it would benefit them to make Mariah cool again because they could make a lot of money from her back catalog and merchandise. They have to market her as an icon like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and The Beatles to where even the kids want an MC Lunchbox. If JLo can have a recording career, and a dork like TS can be popular, anything is possible.

Re-releases (53,911) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Trish, I am with you about the re-releases. I don't even care for another Christmas album. Really I think it's quite impossible for MC, or anyone else for that matter, to live up to the monster hit the first Christmas album became. I mean, I don't think even Mariah knew she's creating what will eventually turn out to be a holiday staple. Plus hasn't the original been re-released many times? I'd much rather she focus on a new commercial album. She is taking up way too much for November-December schedule. A movie, Beacon Shows, other annual shows she usually gets invited to perform at and so on. I think she should rather start mapping out her next album after the July Vegas leg and take time writing and recording and this time actually set out proper promo strategies. Enough with the re-releases. Honestly I might have to give L.A. Reid a call and ask him where his head is at. He must be crazy to let Mariah's milestone year pass by like this.

Merry Christmas re-release (53,910) by Trish from USA
Sigh. I'm kind of tired of re-releases. How about a third Christmas album? Except this time no filler tracks like a live version of O Holy Night we already have and a needless remake of AIWFCIY. You guys don't like what JD is saying but I agree with him, I don't think Mariah takes it seriously anymore. We all love her voice, right? We all love hearing her sing songs we haven't heard before, right? Every classic song or traditional song she sings gives us goosebumps, right? The originals on the first and second Christmas album are to die for, but we already got them. If she takes her dedication to her fans seriously she would know we don't care about re-releases.

Save the drama for your mama (53,908) by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
Everyone takes Mariah Carey way to serious. I think that's why Mariah, Britney, Michael, Whitney had so much trouble in the spot light. I think they achieved so much success so young and so long that people expect/expected them to be #1 all the time. I honestly think Mariah is sick of it. Doesn't care anymore. it's like 'I'm here, take me as I am and if you don't bye." She knows what people say about her and she no longer cares, I love it. I also think JD and the media and public and a lot of the fans are being ageist and sexiest. I remember back in 1998, Whitney told Mariah in a VH1 countdown they we're hosting "No matter, all the things you accomplish, once you have a child, a family, nothing else will matter to you anymore." Fast forward to 2010. Chaka Khan to B. Scott: "I love Mariah. She's having two. It's going to change her, once you have kids, nothing else matters." Britney Spears also just said she changed and it's now "Kids, family and her career is last." Mariah isn't career driven anymore. Good for her. Can you blame her? She's been doing this straight out of high school, now it's not about being #1 for her. It's about her doing what she loves and having fun and meeting and seeing new and old fans from all over the world. Sorry I hate doing two posts lol. I think the media and public has been way to harsh on Mariah and a lot of female singers. It's complete ageist and sexiest. Males in society can age and male singers can get on stage and sound a mess. When a female singer does it she will get dragged through the mud. I also think Mariah deserves half the criticism, for so long she hasn't been nice nor helpful to younger female singers who look up to her. Everyone notices it. That's why artists respected Whitney Houston because she was a female singer's friend. Mariah hasn't messed up her legacy. Turn on the radio, her legacy is in tact. Her legacy lives on in newer generation of singers like Tori Kelly. That girl can sing. She's got the gift, She's grown up listening to Mariah Carey. The Fifth Harmony girls and yes even Ariana Grande. Look at Taylor Swift's Bad Blood and don't tell me you didn't think of the "Oh Boy" music video lol especially the office part. With the Kendrick rap, that's because of Mariah and ODB. Like Fantasia said, "Mariah doesn't have do another thing, she's a legend. The game Mariah is like Elvis, an untouchable legend." Now I wouldn't be me, if I didn't tell Mariah please fire you're stylist. Hire a young gay male stylist. Every last one of you're outfits on tv from last week. Chile, I can't.

J.D. or L.A.? (53,907) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Look everyone calm down. J.D.'s comment won't even be that important next to what Mariah's current boss said. J.D. in a way has been left behind in 2014 and Mariah ran back to L.A. Reid because she thinks he can make 2005 happen all over again. And what does Reid say? That Mariah won't be played on the radios anymore, her getting another #1 is unrealistic. Is that something the record label boss say to the media? I just want to ask Reid, "Are you high or incredibly stupid?" The worst J.D's comment is going to do is paint MC as a diva, and everyone already thinks she is a diva. No one remembers that MC was known as the hardest working person in show business. So basically J.D.'s comments will be forgotten by the weekend. Mariah should knock L.A. Reid on the forehead and ask him what the heck he was thinking while making that comment. Downplaying someone's legendary status to make them sound accessible is one thing, to straight up deny that MC still has the ability to get another hit is stupid to say the least. This quote will pop up in many variations for months in different websites. J.D.'s comment next to L.A.'s is basically very vanilla.

Shelly (53,905) by Luke from United Kingdom
I don't believe he meant it in a shady way either. I just think these interviewers ask some type of personal question and he probably just went off on a tangent. Unfortunately celebs need to think about what they are saying more than anyone. He probably is genuinely caring for her but it's other people's perceptions of his words that he would need to think about I guess. It would have been more thoughtful if he just said something like "Mariah can achieve anything when she knuckles down, gets serious and puts her mind to it." He may also be bitter about something though.

Heavenly (53,904) by Dove from USA
I just watched the BMA's performance again and I just wanted to say that I love the whole look of it. I like how everything is white. Her sparkly silver dress makes her look like an angel in heaven. If they would have used the fog machine (I dont know what it's called) that Meaghan Trainer and John Legend used it would have looked even more heavenly.

Merry Christmas album revamped (53,903) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
As a film soundtrack? Marc Shaiman is the obvious choice for collaborator but what about Shania Twain? She's such a sweetheart and musical talent on her own. Fingers crossed that MC can see the genius of that move and make it happen. I mean, the movie is greenlit, no? I hope it's semi-animated like all of my favorithe Disney flicks like Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins or a full on musical like The Sound Of Music or My Fair Lady. I have a hard time seeing an original full animation adapted to the stage if the characters aren't mostly human. And it would have to be done with Broadway in mind because why the hell not? Also, a popular stage production has legs and built-in longevity. It could easily be translated into Swedish etc and done on an international scale. These things make me happy yawl.

Opinion on the rants (53,902) by Nick from USA
I am not sure why everyone is acting shocked/annoyed with Mariah on these "memories/rants" videos, I mean she has said the same things about the videos in the past. I personally love them though, I like when artists talk about their past work. Also, these rants are making me excited because it shows how flawless she is going to look in the Infinity video.

Bad blood: Do you know how long JLo has been screwing with Mariah? (53,901) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
1. Let's talk about: Do you know where you're going to? (The theme from Mahogany.) Mariah included her stellar rendition of it on the original #1's in 1998 only for JLo to copy her a few months later On The 6 in 1999. Of all the songs to cover in the world and include on your first album both you, your producer and the record company boss settle on a song the top artist at your label just recorded and intended to release as a commercial single? Yeah, that's pretty standard in places like Hell. Jennifer "I'm Real" Lopez, Cory Rooney and Tommy Mottola are all going you know where. I remember going to the record store at the mall near my HS campus to listen to new music and having already purchased #1's I found it an odd coincidence that Jennifer Lopez had the same cover song on her album as Mariah as vocally weak as her version is. I know better now, there is no such thing as coincidence. This is my first post on the history of [censored] Mariah has had to endure in her unparalleled 25 years in the music industry.

RJJ12 / Damizza's book (53,900) by Bill from the UK
RJJ12, thank you for posting the link to Damizza's book. I read the Mariah chapter and it was very interesting indeed. I was absolutely stunned to read at just how close MC came to being killed in the plane, reading that part sent a wave of terror right through me. And in spite of everything, I was actually very saddened when I got to the end of the chapter. Just knowing MC kept on trying to contact him and he kept blocking her out was just heart wrenching. Don't Forget About Us indeed.

"Oh Mariah" (53,899) by MIAM from United Kingdom
MC where you at? She has just released a new single and an album yet she is no where to be seen. There has been no promotion from her really. And tbh what the public currently think of her isn't that great. I used to defend MC to the hills if anyone said anything about her whether it be good or bad, but these days it has been easy to do that, and I agree with others on here that say she just doesn't seem to have the drive anymore. The smoke and mirrors only last so long before they start fading away. I never thought I would ever feel this way about Mariah but I am quite disappointed, yes she says she loves her fans and what not but what is she giving us right now? Infinity was released over a month ago and still no video or promotion. I could be wrong but it does seem like the beginning of the end for her.
