Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels (47,443) by Lee TS from USA
I spoke with Billboard: What do you think happened with Carey's latest album, which spent just eight weeks on the Billboard 100, her shortest stay for a studio LP? Listen, sometimes an artist - and in the case of Mariah, an artist I've worked with for 10 years - makes an amazing album that just doesn't connect with the audience. Of course that is very disappointing, but it would be impossible to pinpoint that down to just one thing. I've enjoyed incredible success with Mariah and many of those hit songs and albums have made Billboard history. But this latest effort just didn't go all the way.

The age thing (47,442) by Isabelle from USA
Have you people ever thought that Mariah doesn't like talking about her actual age so people would discourage her music and stuff. Ageism and sexism in the music are big impact for women in music. You never hear male artist trying to avoid are being discussed about their age because it doesn't have a major influence on them trying to sell music. When Mariah tries to do a type of music that is on radio, people start bring the age thing. And when somebody like Jay Z, who is the same age as Mariah, people don't say anything or mention anything about his age, like they do to women.

Mariah is 17, now stop it (47,441) by Lee TS from USA
MC will never admit her age and she is uber sensitive about it. I remember watching a clip of her on Rosie's show and she couldn't even accept being 27, like really? She always get uncomfortable when it's brought up and automatically goes to being eternally 12. The only time I remember her somewhat acknowledging it was when being interviewed for being American Idol and saying she's lived her dream for more than half her life. I can imagine when Monroe blossoms into a young beautiful teen and refers to MC as her sister. Mariah would be the Amy Poehler in Meangirls, kidding. It also brought up my initial thought of MC being inducted into Rock and Roll hall of fame, I think she would reject the idea until a lot later on. And Ms. Wendy Williams is forever picking on Mariah about it. On the topic of age, just for fun, how would you all feel if MC goes the Madonna/JLo route and dates a 25 year old boytoy?

Abraham and LC, MimiLamb? (47,440) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
Abraham. Thank you. I completely agree with you and LC. I think a rerelease with promotion is what Mariah really needs. I was researching a Mariah post and something caught my interest. As stated and from what we know Beyonce's music career was declining before Beyonce decided to begin her Mrs. Carter world tour in fall of 2013. While touring Beyonce then released her record setting album Beyonce in December of 2013. The editor of the article was comparing Beyonce's tour hype and how that impacted her sales success. The editor thinks Mariah realized the only way to promote her music is by touring. I don't think it's the only way but it seems most realistic for her at this time. It's a smart sales tactic. A re release makes perfect sense. I made a mistake on mispelling a name earlier on this post. I said mimilanb, I meant MimiL. Sorry.

Mariah's age (47,437) by Bill from the UK
The "extra year" all came about after a journalist for People magazine I believe, said Mariah's drivers license had her birth date as 27 March 1969. In Tina Arena's autobiography, she wrote that when Tommy Motolla met her, he said to her "you're 22 now" when she was actually 27 at the time. She didn't go with it, but maybe it was good marketing at the time to have her be 20 and born "in the seventies"? This could explain why Mariah is forever dodging the question about her age (anniversaries, eternally 12 etc.) and hasn't admitted what her age is since divorcing Tommy. Maybe she doesn't like lying so just avoids it altogether. The one thing to say all this is nonsense though is Mariah's mother naming her Mariah after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah", which was out in 1970. Unless of course that was an elaborate hoax to explain her great stage name, and she was really called Maria or something, but that is far fetched and something one of my friends theorises about. I'm sure she was born in 1970, named after the song, and is 44. [Webmaster: See also the How old is Mariah? article from 2007 and the How old is Mariah Carey? 40 or 41? article from 2010.]

Travon / LC (47,436) by Abraham from USA
Hi friend, I'm sorry I skipped your post, I sometimes do that, I don't always read every post on here, but I appreciate your kind words. I hope you keep posting because I like what you bring to the messageboard, LC you're right, I also recall Mariah mentioning the song "Kick rocks". There was also another rumored tracklist that had songs named "Mesmerized" and "Illusions". I hope if a re release does take place, Mariah releases "I'll still be around" or "Save the day" if they were actual songs. Now that Mariah's lost weight, and more and likely will lose more, by December or next year, she will feel comfortable enough to shoot a video. I'd definitely like a brand new 14 album tracklist with some cool collaborations and ballads.

Mariah is age 44 (47,435) by Dan from US
Why are articles online saying she is 45? I don't understand why it's not 44.

Mimi L. (47,434) by LC from USA
I mean, I know that this conversation is kinda long overdue lol since the album was released in May, but I do remember an interview (maybe The Breakfast Club?) where Mariah mentioned that there was a song on her album called "Kick Rocks". She sounded so excited when she said that, so when the track listing was released and it was not there, I was confused and I knew something was up. Then, there was that little snippet she sang on the Barbra Walters special. Obviously she loved the song, otherwise she would've never given us that bit. And those videos I mentioned in the background. What if Mariah will promote the album with new songs in December? Ugh, I really don't want to be disappointed, but it's so exciting.

Mimi L from nowhere (47,433) by Lee from UK
Mimi L, sweetie, let me allay any fears you may have that I misread or did not comprehend your post by providing you with a direct quote from it with its original context. "DM just posted horrible pictures of Mariah from the most unflattering angles, and with her undergarments showing. MC will be pissed when she sees these." Having re-read your post and provided you with a direct quote, I believe my point still stands. Your point (in addition to the unflattering angles) was about Mariah's knickers being photographed (otherwise why even mention it?). You then mention how Mariah will be "pissed" about this. Now, if it's simply a case of bad grammar/argument construction on your behalf, so be it. As I stated in my previous reply to you, If Mariah was concerned about having her knickers photographed then she should either 1) cover them up or 2) not wear any. However, I suspect option two is not an option any of us would relish. So to reinforce my original point; with a stage so high and a skirt so short... you do the maths. I'm pretty sure Mariah already did.

Katie who (47,432) by Ken from USA
The fact this Z list "celebrity" is commenting on Mariah is a big reminder of how nobody will ever be on Mariah's level. All these people who achieve fame on controversial comments or whatever come and go, they will never be remembered. The whole world will always remember Mariah. I confess, I do forget how accomplished Mariah is. Often imitated never duplicated. I love her so much haha.

William (47,431) by Will from England
I think it's something more to do with the fact that there seems to be some disfigurement on her hand. If you take a look at the aquarium photos, with Mariah pointing up next to Monroe, you can see that between the thumb and index finger, there is a "gap" (for lack of a better word), where there should be some muscle. Whilst I do believe there still could be some residual nerve damage there (I mean, who knows at this point), Mariah may just be wanting to cover that up.

LC (47,430) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I am really excited if the news is true, I will try not to be disappointed if it turns out to be false. However if Mariah indeed decides to re-release she should definitely add a few new songs. She should get rid of the Memoirs remixes and instead add 4 new songs. I hope she does it right this time around and gives the album a lot of exposure. I think this album has a lot of potential because it has a song for everyone. The classic Mariah raw ballads (Cry, TAOLG) for the people who want 90s MC music, then there singles with a great chance to get her more hits and newer audiences (Thirsty and YDKWTD) and many more. Your point about the unseen videos playing in the background got me thinking. Because she never filmed new videos just for her tour, they usually just have writings or the real video playing. I will be so happy if she has a video for each song. MC should definitely go on every show and sing as well as give interviews. I was wondering what happened to the other music videos she filmed but never released. She shot a video for YDWTD and Thirsty (apparently for her drink) and she flew to Paris to shot these. So why waste them?

I'm wondering, why does Mariah still wear gloves on her right hand? It's been 1 year. I remember she said that it's for her dislocated hand. Is it her new fashion?

Katie who (47,428) by Abraham from USA
It's something how when someone like Mariah who has obviously lost some weight is probably feeling good, proud and happy with themselves and then all of a sudden, here comes some loser making some negative comment trying to bring you down, but it's like that sometimes in life, there will always be someone who will try and bring a person down, but you can't let them, jealousy is an ugly thing. Honestly, I had no idea who this Katie women was. I had to google her, but didn't last long reading about her because I became extremely bored. There is nothing remotely interesting or special about her. I just think it's funny how someone who's been irrelevant for the longest time is now all of a sudden trying to be noticed and get attention by slamming a woman who's done something with herself, who's made a name for herself as a music legend and who's accomplished more than what that Katie woman has. Lady can have a seat. Mariah don't pay any attention to that idiot's remarks. You look great, so continue doing you, strutting your stuff and being the woman you want to be, your body is fine the way it is.

I don't think pretending that Mariah is superwoman is helping (47,427) by Marissa from USA
Regardless of how optimistic people try to be, Mariah does not have full control of her voice as of now. Her performances have been extremely hit and miss for the past 2 years. For someone who has admitted to being very insecure, she ideally would never give a bad performance and give the media so much fodder, but her voice betrays her. I believe that Mariah knows her voice but if she feels the need to lip sync in some way, shape or form 95% of her performances, she knows something is wrong too. We need to put our egos aside and stop acting like Mariah can pull every single thing together on her own. She's a legend, but she ain't Jesus. With the performances or lack thereof (lipsyncing) between 2012 and 2014 I don't think she is above vocal coaching. I'd rather see her get help and repair the vocal damage than avoid it just to soothe her ego and continue to give performances that will slaughter her legacy.

RJJ12, Mimi L / the truth (47,426) by Marcus from Brazil
RJJ12, you are so right. You were just posting videos of Mariah to compliment her, not to put her down. I think reading comprehension is very important. It seems to be some people read two lines from a post and then start spiting fire without looking at the context. Most of us got what you were conveying, you didn't have to explain yourself. As you said, the fact that Nick has revealed publicly his new tattoo replacing Mariah's name should be enough to know those two are not getting back together. It is not a rumor anymore. Mimi L., your post was as clear as water, you shouldn't pay for others' lack of reading comprehension or any comprehension at all. Always remember that we are less fans than the "super fans". You didn't to have to explain yourself either.

These are the two links. This is really exciting. I really hope our speculations come true. There was a point when the same dancer posted that they had shot the video for YDKWTD, so what if Mariah really is going to do this and capitalize on her success in December? Oh, that would be amazing.

Mariah's voice (vocal cords) (47,423) by B from USA
Mariah still has her voice. Her voice is fragile. It's also affected by her feelings. Her voice cracked during love songs. Makes sense since she's going through a divorce. She also suffers from stage fright, always has. When rested her voice is spectacular. She's still the best vocalist of our time. Her mother is not only an opera singer, she's a vocal coach. Mariah doesn't need a vocal coach. She doesn't need the surgery that ruined Julie Andrews' voice. She knows her voice. She knows when she's giving a good performance, a bad performance, and a great performance. She's a living legend. Show some respect.

Travon (47,422) by RJJ12 from USA
Please do your research before you start making untrue statements. The videos I posted were in no way comparing Mariah's past performances to her current ones. Had you researched, the conversation started with another poster indicating they would rather Mariah perform another song from her catalogue as it seems as though she is just going through the motions when performing ABMB. I responded to her (kindly at that) by advising I used to feel the same way until I saw a couple of good performances where she did a great job with the song and posted them for anyone to enjoy. Speculation? Where have you been for the past year in a half? This has been one of the worst times in her life. Her initial submission of a ballad heavy version of her album wasn't well received by her label, her album got pushed back, she had a serious injury, she got bad reception to her singles and the roll out to her album was non-existent. Mariah hardly speaks on her personal life so why would she now? Plus, why would she when Nick has been doing all the talking lately, even if they are attempting to work things out, Nick having the tattoo with his wife/mother of your children's name covered up is enough of a "sign" for me. Anyone can see she is going through a hard time. She needs prayer. No need to speculate when the proof is there. I don't want to fight with you and I'm glad that you are praying for her in your own way. God bless.

Mariah can't sing anymore (47,421) by Tiina from Finland
Not correct. The situation with her voice is bad obviously but of course she can still sing. What she has is a physical problem with her vocal chords. The nodules won't allow them to zip up. You need a proper "seal" of the chords to produce a clean sound. That's why Mariah sounds very airy but I must say that she has incorporated airyness into her sound beautifully. However, it's actually a problem and also abusive to the vocal chords (it's called "air leaking"). If you continue to sing that way, in time you may not be able to properly zip up your chords again and that means no clean sound. Mariah is having problems to sing on pitch, of course we know she can sing on pitch but it's like her vocal chords just fail her at this point. The air leakage must be behind it. The chords are worn out. Right now she can either sing airy or just belt from her chest voice but it seems that she's not able to use her mix. Her voice has become heavier due to aging. Mariah used to have a lot thinner voice, which made her so fluid. She was very resonant and that's what made her powerful. Today she's too chesty and tries to muscle her way up to reach her mix, especially now because her chords are so tired. All this doesn't mean she's lost her talent. She's dealing with a condition that makes her voice unreliable. She's better off in the studio where multiple takes are allowed. Mariah needs vocal therapy, no doubt. The voice is still there but the vocal chords are worn out.

Mimi L. / re release (47,420) by Abraham from USA
Trust me, no one needs to re read any of your posts. Once is more than enough. As far as a re release of the album. If it's true, I hope it will have brand new songs. She should start fresh. Maybe some of the songs from that rumored tracklist will be released after all? If not, it's cool. As long as whatever she's planning on releasing is good. If it's produced by DJ Clue and JD it should be good. I'm still waiting for the day Mariah works with Pharell again. Walter too.

Without Mariah (47,418) by Carol from Spain
I've been wondering how artists like Mariah are so important to the music industry. She represents a time when music was done for the right reasons and, above all, music was made to last. I tremble when I think of my life without her walking the earth (don't wanna sound obssessed lol). It's hard for me to grasp the tought of not having a MC album to hope for, she has been a part of my life for so long. (Webmaster, I promise I'm not weird but I like to share these toughts.)
