Live singing vs pre recorded vocals is like apples vs apples (52,731) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
What the hell kind of ignorance is there about the concept of room and space continuum that these haters always want to erroneously spread? Do we live in two parallel universes where Mariah sings live only when recording her songs but for some inexplicable can't sing in real time on stage? What is this, 1992 meets 2015? Just pure stupidity to even try and make that argument with a straight face. If it was that easy to sing like Mariah does on every single record from Weakness Of The Body to Infinity, then everybody would do it. Lesser singers have cancelled entire tours while Mariah will sing her heart out through food poisoning, broken bones and personal upheavals. She might cry while doing it but she will do it. So any intimation that Mariah Carey ever gives less than her all is as slanderous as it is untrue. If anything, she's been too generous but that's not criticism or me telling her to stop giving. I'm just saying she doesn't have to take shit from people who only choose to harp on negativity in the name of free speech while they use the term lamb to stab her in the back. She's never going to be a grade A bitch like some people but at least she's not willing to lay down and take mess anymore. That's why Infinity is more than just witty Mariah being clever, it's Mariah saying that she loves herself enough to not be used, abused or fucked with for any reason; yet she is still seeing the rainbows at the end of the tunnel. I identify so that's empowering to me.

Hmmmm (52,730) by Bill from the UK
If Mariah sang I Am Free, When I Saw You, Long Ago and Melt Away live from the Daydream album in the future, she would have performed the entire album live. I don't think any others are as close to being completed. Maybe the debut, but I can't see her being as likely to belt out You Need Me and Prisoner et al as the aforementioned, though I'd die with happiness if she did.

Mariah Carey (52,729) by Malcolm from Asia
Hi, I just want to say what I'm about to say on this message is because of my love for Mariah and I am a kind of fan who wants the best from her even though it hurts. I would like to say that Mariah Carey must be true to herself now, must be a people-person (I don't like to compare her with these singers but I think she must schedule a personality-development from them and learned from it: Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion). These singers are just cool, they're just genuine, kind, and you will see their realness in them as a person. This generation is sick and tired of Mariah's diva antics (yhe way she welcomes in Vegas, she is eternally 17 duh duh etc.), as she age, her personality are going back to a child. Now, everyone loves female singers who are driven, having a strong personality and being true to themselves, no gimmicks etc. Mariah Carey loses her charm and mostly her class as she ages. Some people treat her as a joke so on and so forth and it is very painful for me. I miss when she was wearing clothes that are not "gowns" or not diva-ish type of outfits. I'm hoping that all of these is not her personality at all, I wish I can love her too as a person like her as a performer and singer. P.S. I would like to apologize if I insult anyone or getting mad etc. I am so desperate for Mariah to bring back her "human-self".

"Go choke on a bag of fritos"? Really? Get yourself together and calm down. "Infinity" is terrible. Just accept it and move on. As I stated before, "next" song please.

I'm taking a break (52,727) by Jared from USA
I'm taking a break from this message board. Matini, thank you for accepting my apology. I was truly upset when I realized how much comment came off, but I hope that we can all finally put that to rest. Travon, I don't get your post at all. Are you trying to say that I was nasty? Please look at all my messages before you try to school me on how to be respectful on this board. Voicing a negative opinion about Mariah's latest single is not the same thing as being nasty. I never attacked anyone on here for liking the song. In fact, as I keep saying, I continue to support it in spite of how I feel about it. So I hope no one tells me to "choke of a bag of Fritos". Seriously? I'm tired. Tired of having to defend myself for having an opinion that others here don't like. Tired of getting my messages parsed, taken apart, and taken out of context. Tired of the unnecessary drama. Tired of the eyeroll emoticon (if you did that to my face, I might just do a Pai Mei on you - look it up). So I'll stop posting for a while. Not sure how long, but I just need to get away from all this. As I've said, I had to cancel my Vegas trip and sell my tickets to "#1 to Infinity" because I am very sick right now. I don't need the stress generated by some people on this board. Bye for now.

I can't believe that I will be seeing Mariah Carey in Las Vegas in a week. I'm so excited. I still love Infinity. The verses are catchy and witty and that hook/chorus is so huge you can't help but sing along.

You hit it right on the head. Thank you. I have to wonder if some of these fans live in lamb tent cities, in lamb countries on planet lamb? As soon as I breathe MC's name around friends, students, family: I get snickers and giggles. "She can't sing no more" is the #1 answer I get. All of my gay friends have their favorite divas, and when I bring MC into the conversation I get: "She has the most amazing studio voice of any singer." "Her backing tracks are amazing." The fans constantly on here want to know why she doesn't get tributes like other legends and the truth is: there is a large segment of the population that think she can't sing. Am I the only one nervous every time she makes an appearance on television and has to sing? I mean that is her profession: singer, right? MTV did name her the greatest singer of the past 22 years, right? And listen I'm tired of the you can't hold on to your voice for 25 years excuse. Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner all have semblances of their original magic. I'm tired of earpieces, sick, personal drama excuses. If we are going through a divorce, we still have to perform at our jobs right? Besides I never asked for MC to sound like she used to. I asked for her to sing live and sing well. If you can't sing it live you shouldn't put it on wax. And no, showcasing only your whistle register doesn't mean you can still sing. Remember when MC said in the early 90s she didn't want that to become a gimmick. My, how times have changed.

Unless you decide to step away of your own accord or the webmaster blocks you from the site, it's not up anyone else to vote up or down on whether you should keep posting. It's not that deep. If Mariah can survive 2001-2002, we can certainly make it through this message board. So go on then, off your arse we go like a good lad. The sooner you get to it, the sooner everyone can tell you to sod off, even if they don't always understand you're oftentimes just taking the piss. But at least we'll have some kind of balance. Sound good? Cheers.

People, context (52,720) by Spir Ja from USA
Mariah always says she's eternally 12. I was told by a member of the Board of Governors of the Grammys years ago (that was coaching me vocally) that she was "discovered" by Tommy at 15 and coached until 18. For whatever it's worth either she was sucked in at 15 or 18. This woman has been in the "system" of people mongers her entire youth/adult life. How can you expect her not to have lines like "corny like fritos"? I think it's essentially hilarious and that she's got yes people around her continually. So take it in that context and just go with it arguing about any of it is just a waste. She will never be alone to soul search silently. there are too many corporate grasps at her, day and night. Embrace how strong she is in spite of all that and the people mongers. Day and night.

LC / Jon / Xavier (52,719) by Dove from USA
LC, I voted for your essay. Good luck. Jon, I loved the identification topic you posted the other day. I wanted to respond to it but I couldn't think of anything. But you're right, I do identify with her child-like outlook and festive spirit. I know it gets on some people's nerves but I don't care. It makes me happy and I'll always be this way. I'm going to be like Cyndi Lauper in this video (at 2:16) when I'm an old lady. She has no concept of how old she is. I hope MC stays true to herself and does what makes her happy. Xavier, thanks. I rarely post pictures of myself on public forums. I don't photograph well. Think Chanandler Bong's engagement pictures.

Mariah's future (52,717) by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
It's interesting to see how much love Janet is getting from all over the world of fans who miss her. I think that's not going to work for Mariah now. It's sad, but older fans we love her but we're not passionate about her releases unless she really brings it. Younger people don't even care for her at all, which is sad and think she can't sing anymore. I think she needs to step into 2015 mind frame and get out of the 1980's-1990's music business frame and step more into the driver seat of her career. Look at her friend Beyoncé, she gave up kissing radios butt. She stopped doing radio promos and single promotions. Her albums have been good sellers not huge Adele or Taylor but a huge success. Mariah needs to just focus on hit albums and stop releasing singles and release full albums no more iTunes single promo/radio single promo having a hit single isn't where it's at now. Her going gold now would be a huge success or even platinum. Oh and I got to get this 1 more this negative out my system lol. I laughed out loud when she said she's going to sign her #1's in order to show her progression as an artist LMAO. Mariah Vision Of Love to Infinity. [...]

I'm done / negativity (52,716) by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
It's becoming way to negative here. I know I been very hard on Mariah and I'm honestly done. I'm a fan and always will be. I'm just no longer a huge fan who would buy multiple copies of singles/albums and checking iTunes everyday to see where she. Defending her to friends/haters who hate on her. It's tiring being a Mariah fan nowadays. It's like Mariah is in la la land and doesn't see how the world sees her. Madonna/Mariah/JLo are attention seekers. I hate to put Mariah in with thes two. But, like these two Mariah won't accept she's getting older and her fans are too and she won't age with us. She insists to sing songs that are cool but aren't songs you'd expect from Mariah Carey. On one hand she says she's not trying to appeal to young people but her music and promotion say other wise. I'm just done being negative and I think we all should. Mariah at the end of the day is going to do keep doing what's best for her.

A free throw is a foul shot in basketball to score extra points. When Mariah says "If life was a game, you're a free throw" she could mean that he's a throwaway or that he was a decision/call. Hope this helps.

Reality check (52,713) by Ardis Logic from Earth
All these negative words and opinions about this song has gone too far. Let's please try to be realistic. Nobody can stay "in their prime" forever. To expect that is totally unrealistic. Not just in music, but in every situation. Every great musician peeks. That is a very special thing. It's not meant to last for decades. It's amazing that Mariah has been doing this for 25 years. I just hope she will ignore all the negative comments and just keep doing what she feels is best for her. As long as she keeps staying true to herself, she can do no wrong.

Mariah has missed golden opportunity: [...] could have been a dramatic epic video, [...] would have been a huge rnb hit, [...] should have had dance mixes, all these songs are better than [...]. Videos are never released on time, radio promotions are never done and live performances are blah.

Lamb for life is not a death sentence (52,711) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
The way some of you posters write like the struggle is so real is something for the crazies. Woopty doo, so you don't like all of Mariah's songs, who the fuck does? We all have faves and lesser faves whether they be #1 hits or obscure tracks. Your hate ain't special, sorry, not sorry. I mean, is someone holding a loaded gun to your head ready to bust a cap in your dome unless you play songs you don't like to infinity? If you don't like it, then don't buy or listen to it. Weird, I know, but it totally works. The skip button was invented for that exact purpose, use it, for your own delicate sanity. Just because you generally like her songs inspite of yourself doesn't make you a Lamb. No one's born this way. It's quite literally an acquired taste. There is no "Lamb scale" it's all or nothing. You are either 100% rooting for her and not just her next #1 song because she as an artist and human being inspires in you a 100% devotion or you don't. To any real Lamb, she's family. I rebuke the very implication that the Lambily is a dysfunctional family. It's closer to the truth to say there are just some very vocal anti-Mariahns that bandwagon any less than positive opinion about anything she does to further their agendas. Contrary to popular belief, being a Lamb is not a basic human right. It's a priviliged choice, a very easy one as I myself can attest to. So, all of you anonymous posters out here that make it sound like a fucking death sentence can go choke on a bag of Fritos.

There is a difference in having a conversation with others fans by voicing your opinions than being completely nasty and negative on this board. It all comes down to how you deliver a message here. Some may think your delivery is biased and they may confuse your constructive feedback with negative intentions. You are correct that you have the right to voice opinions. The only difference is everyone else has that right as well and might not agree with you either. I was up researching every article and all her facebook fan pages, when this song was released. Those who liked the song significantly outweighed those who didn't. I personally didn't expect this song to be what it is but I also don't think its bad either. I was expecting a more uptempo raw ballad with more hip to her verses and less cheesy lyrics. However I will not go as far and say "This song is garbage, she is stupid for releasing this, and needs to realize this is not going to be a hit." She already knows what's she's doing. If she wanted a hit, she would of released an album with new songs. People come on here and talk about what she needs to do all the time rather than go on her twitter to give suggestions. This board has zero balance and there is always someone trying to question motives of someone else rather than just sticking to opinions. I have always corrected others when it came to respecting so I would never accuse someone of being nasty unless they direct their frustrations to others on this post.

I'm sorry I'm responding so late, I haven't been visiting the board as often as I've been, really busy with school lately. But, I just want to thank you very much for your positive comments. I always respect what you have to say on this board and it means a lot to me that you and other Mariah fans took the time out of your days to vote for my essay, and give me positive feedback. Thank you very much. And also, I feel like Mariah's lyrics have definitely influenced my writing lol. I even managed to use her song titles and lyrics in essays I write for school. I wrote one entitled "Having a typical emotional upset" and my teacher loved the title, though I did have to explain it to him and my friends who asked. Anyway, I just want to thank you all again. It really means a lot to me.

At midnight, I was watching Comedy Central's "Late night" and the first video they played was a Mariah song, "Emotions". Then the host starting singing a line. It was only like 20 seconds but it's cool to hear Mariah on tv.

Truce anyone? (52,706) by Mushaakiss from UAE
It's one thing voicing opinions on a matter whether it be with or against something, but man this message board has turned into a blood bath. And it's lambs slaughtering lambs. No pun intended. Ok so the song has polarized fans, but at the end of the day it's already out there and Mariah and the record label went with it so it's now up to the public, performance wise. On iTunes it's already falling fast if that's any indication, and on YouTube it's somewhere around 2.5 million views as a lyrics video alone. Maybe things will turn out fine or maybe it'll be another failed single that won't change the fact that this is done and we're stuck with it. Good thing is that it's not a new album lead track, it's just an added song to a compilation. I do understand where everyone is coming from and there's truth in what's been argued about from both sides, but maybe we shouldn't turn against each other.
