Finally, somebody "gets it". I'm not a hater. I'm a longtime fan. It's unrealistic to expect that everyone in her fanbase will find every song that she releases to be magical. When I said #Beautiful was a step in the right direction, I should also add that I enjoyed MIAMTEC very much. Many tracks felt "right" to me. And even though I'm not into "Infinity", I bought the single and streamed the lyric video several times, so others on this board should think twice before calling someone a fake lamb. I support Mariah in all her endeavors because I love her and continue to hold out hope that her next release will have something that will blow my socks off. So please, please, everyone stop lambasting people for voicing negative opinions here. It's a message board, not a cult. We're bound to disagree from time to time. I also find it hard to believe when people say that the criticisms here are harsher than what you'll find in public forums. That's so not true because we have a webmaster to censors messages that cross certain lines. Out in the world wide web, I've seen comments about Mariah that are just downright dirty insults - not even proper criticisms - just nasty remarks. When a lamb posts a negative opinion here, it's because we care, not because we want to bring MC down.

We are all different individuals (52,704)
by May from Denmark

And as such we all have different tastes. Why can't people just simply respect someone's opinion and move on, if it upset them that much either ignore it or argue back in a miderate way. Why always that desperate move to insult others or label them, if it's not goats it's haters and if it's not that then the "not true lamb". Not everyone has to like the exact same things 100 percent of the time. We all love Mariah music, we all love her as the person she shows to us, we all love her past and we are concern for her future. I didn't love Obsessed when it came out as much as I loved Heartbreaker back in the days, but that hasn't stopped me from buying Obsessed, from playing it on repeat endless times because I love the video (I die for a Mariah doll) and I even have it as my ringtone (love it when people call me and I'm in a public space and it goes "boy, why you're so obsessed with me" haha). Just because one dislikes a song, from her incredibly long catalogue, it doesn't mean that oneself is a hater. Maybe the new song will grow for some when the video hits if it's good, maybe I will like it more because of that reason just like it happened with Obsessed. But right now I'm not much into the corny lyrics like the corny line in "corny like Fritos". Somehow the word Fritos completely turns me off. But that's me and that's my opinion. You are all free to disagree as much as you want but let's keep up some respect here. And this comes from someone who never used the word "enabler".

Chill out / the real meaning of Infinity (52,703)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Can we all just settle down for a moment. I mean, wow. If the song is indeed about her and her husband's relationship ending, then look at it like from her perspective. She had committed to Nick "eternally", and then something so bad happened that they are where they are now. Maybe turning this desperate situation around is a coping mechanism for her. Rather than releasing Camouflage part 2, she's trying to get over her heartbreak by indicating it wasn't that big a deal in the first place. The tragedy is that that couldn't be further from the truth, which in a way, makes a song that on the surface is fun and light hearted with its lyrics, all the more heartbreaking. "I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it, and I'm going to extremes to prove I'm fine without you, but in reality I'm slowly losing my mind, underneath the 'guise of a smile gradually I'm dying inside." Life imitates art indeed.

I love "Infinity", but I see where you are coming from. There is a lot of diversity in Mariah's music and also in her fan base. There is no way that she can always please everyone. There are those who want another "Hero" and then there are those like me who wish every song sounded like "Obsessed" and "Touch My Body". I think we just have to accept the fact that Mariah is never going to be able to please all of her fans with a single song. We should all look forward to her next album because there will surely be something there for everyone.

I totally agree with everything that you said. I personally feel Mariah fans should always be supportive of Mariah. I don't just love Mariah the singer, I love Mariah the human being. I feel like when you really love someone you just want them to succeed and be happy. So what if you don't like this one song. If you truly care about MC, you should still want her to be successful. I guess people have different opinions on what constitutes a real fan. I suppose some of you can only be supportive of Mariah if she does everything your way. To each his own.

Ok, so now I'm a hypocrite (52,699)
by Jared from USA

And a "lamb" (notice the quotation marks), Ethan. Great. Maybe your post wasn't just directed to me, but I feel that it certainly applies because I've been very vocal about disliking Mariah's "corny like Fritos" lyrics on her much-hyped single. "Them chickens is ash and I'm lotion" never sat well with me, but I like "It's Like That" overall. I love the lyrics on "Migrate" because it's clearly a club banger and it just felt right for the song. "Obsessed" has grown on me, too, though I didn't instantly love it, and it still isn't a favorite of mine. You know what truly bothers me about "Infinity"? I've said it before and I'll say it again one last time. She sounds immature for a 45-year old music legend to be singing about Fritos and free throws. I know she's a pop singer, but she doesn't have to lower herself like this for her songs to gain traction. I believe, and I may be mistaken, but this desperate need to cling to her youth is a big part of what's turning the general public off. She should really try something new on her next album. #Beautiful was a step in the right direction. But again, if you love "Infinity" then good for you. You can't bully me into saying that I like it. I'm not a hypocrite, I just know what I like and what I don't like. And I'm not a "lamb", I'm a lamb, have been since '97.

Nice post. It was cool to see all of those lyrics together. I have a book where I keep all of my favorite Mariah "hood" lyrics and a lot of those are missing, thanks. It's nice to see people posting positive things on this board. I think that the positive lambs need to be more vocal on this board and maybe that will drive away all of the haters.

Randy / voice (52,697)

I understand your frustration. Whether we agree with what she does or not, I think deep down inside all lambs feel the same way as her track record for live performances in the 90s was flawless. She made us expect that from her. I also think it's beyond human for her to be able to do all that today. I don't think Mariah will ever sing songs that are easier to sing live just so she has songs that she can actually sing live. The only explanation I can think of is that, being a perfectionist, she wants the studio version to be perfect as that's the version that will live on through the years, not some live version at some concert or TV show, unless it's a disaster like AIWFCIY at the tree lighting, but then again let's face it lambs she was extremely sloppy during that whole period due to the divorce. I really don't think she cared. I don't think we will be seeing another "live" performance of that sort anytime soon. I also think she'd still be judged for losing her voice if she tried to sing simpler songs. She's doomed whatever she does. So I say let her do her own thing, whatever makes her happy. I guess I'm lucky that I like songs like Infinity ad YME because she will never stop producing R&B numbers like that.

Infinity restrain (52,696)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
I don't really feel much a restrain in her voice, if anything is just thinner. But in all honesty I think the problem is that her voice in that songs has a lot of filter, someone described it best by saying that she sounds far from the microphone. To me sometimes it almost sounds like it was not mastered, iTunes put a description in the song saying it's the "mastered version" but it doesn't feel like it. The song for me has some ups and dows but no matter, the general consensus is that it's appealing, people (non fans) are liking it. I think the video will help a lot bump the song in charts.

Negative "lambs" (52,695)
by Xavier Peoples from United States
| |
|
|
It sucks coming on here and having to see all of the negativity. It's also very annoying how some of you seem to think that "Infinity" is just the worst song ever and that anyone who likes it just must like anything and everything that Mariah puts out. Even if this is true, what is wrong with liking everything that your favorite artist puts out? If it's OK for some of you to come on here bashing every little thing that Mariah does that you don't like, then it should also be OK for people like me who love anything and everything that Mariah does. I feel like the people who come on here constantly complaining about Mariah need to go find whatever artist they think is better at the moment and go to their board and praise them. I don't think most people come to a Mariah Carey messageboard to read negative comments about Mariah Carey. Many of the comments made by "lambs" on this board are worse than the comments made by the general public on other sites. I think a lot of people on here need to get a life and find something better to do than constantly criticize Mariah. Mariah is already the #1 selling female artist of all time, and I doubt she needs the input of any of you.

Re: Abraham part 2 (52,694)

You asked "You think older people would listen to it?" She has fans of "all" ages. Not sure who the oldest fan would be but, I'm pretty sure there are people her age, and older, who are fans. It's just a matter of opinion. If you like "Infinity" then great. If not, that's ok too. Just try not to be too upset about it. She made and recorded the song very quickly. In my opinion, going through the breakup of a marriage is very emotionally draining and is a huge life change. For us it might seem like "no big deal". To her, it's been her life (for the last 6 plus years), her heart, and her issues. So really she kind of wrote this song for herself, kind of like self therapy. She wrote it, and put her feeling out into the world for everyone to hear. This possibly was a way for her to vent and get it off her chest so she can continue to heal from what she has been through and move on. I feel she is entitled. The lease we can do as fans is be supportive.

It's funny, you have just done a mash up of all the lines I dislike from those songs and the songs I hear the least from Mariah's catalogue haha. Except maybe for the Patron line the rest does nothing for me. I do believe I blasted Migrate for a good while because the beat in that song is sick, and the beggining in It's Like That is also so club worthy. The video was beautiful as well, loved the entrance she made in it. She looked gorgeous.

But I much rather The Impossible. "Love you like my lover and my best friend" that right there is one of the best lines and I completely identify with it because that's how I love my life partner. Also the song has such sexy parts, Mariah's boice sounds so soothing and sultry in that track, it's a relaxing track and it really transports you. To me it's a really "feel good" song. The song that I like the most from Memoirs is Betcha Gonna Know, I only wished part of the lyrics were different (the tv show mentions and Mariah friends names) but it was a personal album for MC, so I can understand why she would write the song that way.

That's exactly what I was talking about with my "identification" post. You're this girly girl but still you're intelligent and articulated. I love that. That's why I love Mariah. I hate being judged superficially and I hate the mentality that it's the first impression that counts. What counts is knowing someone deep down. That takes time. The people that take themselves too seriously are wrong. "Oh Mariah is such a bimbo." Maybe they are just jealous they can't have the fun she has. I don't think she is trying to reach anyone with this song, she is doing her own thing. Kudos for people that do their own thing. Sending you some love.

Hypocrisy of "Lambs" (52,690)

"I came to have a party, open up the Bacardi, feeling so hot tamale. Them chickens is ash and I'm lotion." "Just like the Calgon commercial." "Then I'd best not catch this flick, on YouTube (YouTube), 'cause if you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous, I will hunt you down, 'cause they be all up in my business like a Wendy interview." "Speed dial connecting me to Rae-Rae (hey), click in Shawntae and Mae-Mae (hey). Fellas be grabbin' at us like yo, tryin' to get us going off the Patron, we sippin' Grigio... slow." "I'm like the lottery, hot Bentley with the keys. Take me for a ride." "But you in LA, and I'm out at Jermaine's. I'm up in the A, you're so so lame, It must be the weed, it must be the E, heard you get it poppin', you get it poppin'. Got you all fired up, with your Napoleon complex. Seein' right through you like you're bathin' in Windex." So what's the deal with Infinity?

I have been searching for reviews for Infinity and I haven't read one that's been negative. The only negative remark was that her vocals sounded strained on the chorus but the reviewer was still positive about the song and the lyrics.

People that aren't feeling infinity shouldn't have to get labelled absolute Mariah haters, and those that do love the song shouldn't get labelled "delusional" for not being objective or truthful that the song is a "joke", and therefore anyone who actually likes it is also labelled "foolish". I admit that I was surprised by the split reactions intentionally, but I really truly hope that nothing I have ever said on this board has come across as an attack on someone else here. Have a beautiful day, all.

That woman child (52,684)
by Dove from USA

I love Infinity but I can be objective and see why others wouldn't. People who say it sounds "girly" and "Disney" are right. It does. But that's how I am too. Maybe that's part of the reason why I like it. When I hear Infinity, it makes me think of the movie Enchanted. That's also how I see my life. I am 32 but I feel younger. People always say that about me when they meet me, too. They think I'm 22 and right out of college. I think it has to do with my child-like aura. I'm not saying it's a good thing but it is what it is. I feel like I didn't have a childhood, so when I was old enough to choose my own path I chose Disney. I still watch cartoons, I don't watch scary movies because they scare me, I like to draw and paint, I collect Barbie's, I wear bright pink a lot, I love glittery things, pretty shoes, I cover my eyes and mute it during the sex scenes in OITNB because I'm sensitive to the graphics but I like the storyline, on Christmas I wear the most over-the-top sparkly gowns to visit the kids at the hospital as a magical princess. (I don't wear make up every day so they don't even know it's me.) I also love to dress up on Holidays and I've even been Santa when no one else wanted to. When she does those festive things people call corny, I relate to it. It doesn't mean that I'm not an adult or that I'm dumb. I have several degrees. I know that a person doesn't necessarily need to be a genius to get a degree but you have to be "smart enough" and competent. I've always worked with kids, first as a babysitter, then at CPS, and now at the hospital. Maybe that has something to do with my child-like aura too. My point is, I think that, like me and many others, Mariah sees her life as a Disney movie. When you find humor and magic in painful situations, it makes life bearable.

Whether or not she was aiming for a hit is besides the point. "Infinity" is weak and a joke compared to all her hits. She could have put a better song on the album. I just can't believe she recorded and listened to it and said "This is good." You think older people would listen to it?

Am I racist? No (52,682)
by Jared from USA

Orkun, Lamb_o_Chop, Licia, and everyone who's condemning me for what I said to Matini, allow me to try to dig myself out of this hole. First off, I have a lot of respect and admiration for many African American people and I count a few as my friends, not just acquaintances. For one, I worship Mariah Carey, a woman who is not only open about her racial background, but celebrates her black identity in her work, most of which I adore including many of her hip hop collabos. Yes, slang terms are used all over the world, but let's admit that Mariah leans heavily towards colloquialisms that are from the black community. I was wrong to specifically state that I found the "AA colloquialisms" in "Infinity" to be grating. I suppose that if it were any kind of slang that makes Mariah sound immature (for a 45 year old) and uneducated, I would find it grating anyway. So sorry Matini for phrasing it that way. Having given it more thought, I guess my true problem with "Infinity" is that I feel like Mariah's songwriting is regressing towards heavy use of slang and poor song structure instead of progressing towards a mature and respectable place. To me, she sounds desperate to connect with a younger audience, and desperate to maintain her "street cred" as the queen of thug love duets that she pioneered. So I want to offer my apologies to anyone who may have been offended, but I truly meant no offense and I did not mean to insult the black community. To the fans who love "Infinity", good for you.

Nate from Boyz II Men / the voice (52,681)

Nate is totally wrong for his comments in public. My problem is that the voice was a problem long before the Rockefeller performance. That was just when the masses found out. I'm a school teacher in GA and when I ask choir students what they think of MC: "She's great, she just can't sing anymore." I want her to address/fix it. Sing songs in current range without those studio created high full voice belts she can't do live. And what's the end game? I was let down when I heard Infinity, not because of the lyric or production like some of you but because she has no chance in hell of singing that live without smoke and mirrors. And for those stuck in the sand with the "bad vocal day", "sick", "earpiece" excuses, I challenge you to do this: watch her sing 1995 "Vision of Love" at Madison Square Garden and then watch her sing "Vision of Love" 1998 at "The View". That's not a bad day. They don't even sound like the same woman.

Candy Bling is one of the few song off of MOAIA that I like. I also like Obsessed and Languishing. I don't understand why some fans aren't liking Infinity. The chorus is classic 90's Mariah Pop and the verses are 00's Mariah. In my opinion it's a great song and it has the potential to be a hit. It's already received more press and promo than #Beautiful did. It hasn't even been serviced to radio and radio is already playing it. I saw a clip of the video which was played in Vegas and she looks stunning. She's at a vanity wearing a red robe applying perfume and she looks as good as she did during TEOM era. When this video is released you'll all be changing your tunes. Praising the song, Mariah, and the video. I don't know what you people want from Mariah, she delivered a strong single that incorporates all of her trademarks in a modern way and you're disappointed?

I feel the same about the people who don't like song. Everything people claim to not like is exactly what I enjoy about the song. The lyrics are fun people, lighten up. You all act like she didn't just give you all Camouflage, Cry, Mine (Eternal) and Faded. Yes at 45 she's allow to be playful and light hearted. She can pull it off in my opinion and she always keep a good balance. I love the switching of the paces, it like a musical roller coaster ride. We know her voice isn't at its peak now, but it still shines on this track and she has great vocal moments in the song. C'mon now how could you not get your life from the way she sings "close the door lose the key". Singalong with me Abraham.
