Where do broken divas go? (48,838)
by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA

All this talk of a new album, dating, etc. isn't the best course for her imo. Everytime she has done a quick flop-rebound album, it's been lackluster, imo (Charmbracelet, Memoirs). I would like her to focus on her image. Doing some shows here and there just for the fans and for the vocal exercise as well as regaining some semblance of confidence on stage. I think vocal rest has done all it's going to do for her, exercising those chords may help. Focus on celebrating her 25th year. Performing a tv/internet special where she just does 5 or 6 songs from the debut album would be a lovely gift. No gowns, no antics, just what she was when she came out, a mic and three back up singers, a reunion with those guys would be lovely too. I would like to see her make forays into other things, pop up in Jimmy Kimmel skits, mentor on singing talent shows overseas, show up to awards shows just to be there (US and overseas). Jennifer Anniston wins nothing but is always on someone's red carpet. I would love for her to do what Mary J Blige is great at doing, being featured on other people's songs and scoring hits. Mary is quick to reach out to an artist she likes and re-record a version of their current hit. This would be a great way to keep Mariah out there as well as having her venture into other genres. I don't like her, but Aguilera's guest on Say Something was divine and so out of her her genre that it worked. Mariah could do this with overseas artists who idolize her.

I agree. I hope Mariah or Sony decides to release a limited/special edition of Mariah Carey with unreleased songs and video footage. I would love a new album next year but I'm fine with waiting a year or two. I think Mariah needs to take a year or two and work on new material with new producers.

Here's a list with unreleased songs of Mariah. Some of them leaked on the Internet by now, as an example Skydiving or Imperfect.

Mariah and Nick (48,835)

I admire the fact that so far Mariah has yet to bash Nick in an interview. Instead, she chooses to settle everything as quietly as possible. Maybe she is considering her children too. After all, Nick is their father. I can't wait for the divorce to be finalized. It's dragging.

So Nick jumped to twitter to say this: "I am always an open book but personal matters are just that 'personal'. So please respect my family and respect the process." I'm all for him defending his family but what does Nick deem personal? So his divorce is personal but the fact the he "f***** the s*** out of Mariah" on their wedding night isn't? I'll be so glad when Mariah is free of his sorry ass.

That list is a complete joke. It's way to soon for her to be dating since she's not even divorced from Nick. The men they suggested are mostly crap anyways. I'm pretty sure Mariah thinks Usher's bleak since he blew smoke in her face. JD would be weird given their background. Does she even know Jamie Foxx? Derek's old news. Everyone including Mariah should be over their relationship. Nothing wrong with Taye, I just don't see them together. I do hope Mariah finds love just not with any of these men.

Nick (48,830)
by nikki from usa

Simply judging by what's available from a picture and straight from MC's and Nick's mouth standpoint, their relationship seems to be Mariah giving and Nick taking. From Mariah's standpoint, I've never heard Nick complain about her or say she harps on him. He has said that she's a great cook, an excellent mother, and gets upset when he airs their privacy. He also stated America's Got Talent and Husbands of Hollywood were gunning for MC to be on their shows and Mariah obliged. Their marriage was a major theme of his stand up comedy. Mariah stated the "abandoner" left her to fend for herself while she was immobilized in a high risk pregnancy and when her arm was injured. He was rarely home while Mariah continually pushed her album back and didn't promote it to stay with the kids. She was at the hospital with him during his Lupus diagnosis, fed him, and took care of him. Nick was stupid enough to take a lie detector test for BBC radio and failed the fidelity question. He lists Mariah's name along a list of jump-offs and leaked information to the press. Now, he's specifically calling her out in his next album. I don't think Nick deserves Mariah. It's interesting that in her first marriage her career success translated into her husband's success, so she worked herself 24/7. Nick wanted his own success so Mariah's career went on the backburner. I wonder if MC thinks she's worthy of love sometimes. She should find someone that values her wholly as she does him.

Ageism (48,828)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

It's not set in stone, but legacy artists eventually do struggle with maintaining public interest. Such struggle just becomes even more and more of an uphill battle as they get older. Okay, Cher did top the charts with Believe in 1999 when she was in her 50s, but that was pretty much just her being lucky to have released the right song at the right time. A lot about commercial and even critical success with music has to do with perfect timing, regardless of talent or quality. In a perfect world, MIAMTEC would have topped the charts all around the world for weeks if based solely on its quality. Unexpected successes are very rare and fleeting most of the time. So if someone as commercially ruthless as Madonna has her latest EP falling down the charts faster than you can read this sentence despite all the hype caused by the leaks that happened and her controversial comments about it before its release, then no artist of her age is guaranteed success. A lot of today's music consumers are tweens. We know how they are, they generally gravitate towards people who are hot and young, and tend to dismiss those who are older. I'm not saying it's impossible for Mariah to score another hit based on Madonna's recent performance. But that debacle from such a prominent artist just proves how trickier it is to make it and stay commercially relevant in the music scene these days.

Next album (48,827)
by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA

I know there seems to be a lot of talk about Mariah's "next" album for next year. I really hope it's not. Mariah needs to take atleast two years off. Give her voice a break and work on it some more and get her life under control. For the 25th anniversary, I would so rather she works together with Sony Classics and out together a re-release of her debut album. With maybe unreleased songs from that era, out takes from recording and video footage. In a really nice box set for the fans. She could promote that but not perform on TV. Also do her annual Christmas concerts again next year. I hear she's going on a European tour in 2015. She needs to ditch the diva and go find herself back again. Stop with this weird celebrity wannabe Marilyn Monroe act.

Jazz album? Nick etc (48,826)
by Tiina from Finland

Christmas albums aside, I don't think we'll ever get an album with mainly just covers from Mariah. Maybe one day in the future but I'd see her doing that as a last resort, honestly. Personally I rather have her doing original songs. And also, I just don't think she'd want to do a concept album within just one genre. But one thing is for sure, she needs to gain her momentum back to have a hit album. Others have said it before me and I agree that she needs to borrow from the TEOM era. We need to get people to focus on her voice and songwriting again. I want her to sound and look iconic. She's going to need the right team behind her and the promotion needs to be on point. Mariah is still youthful, still very marketable. Her talent is undeniable, of course. She's fully capable of writing another number 1 hit. As for the image, the focus needs to be on her status as an icon, not as a diva. Nick sure spoke their relationship into existence. He also spoke their divorce into existence. Surely there were other problems as well, not saying that. Nick always had a childish sense of humour though and he would share intimate things right from the beginning but then he made it into a thing and it got to be too much.

It's too soon for Mariah to start dating. That list is hilarious. All those men are out of Mariah's league, with the exception of Taye. I could see him and Mariah together. He's handsome and seems like a nice man with a good heart. Usher no, Jamie is a joke, Jermaine is her friend and Derek isn't thinking about Mariah. What they had is history, the man's moved on.

Mariah's next album (48,823)
by Alejandro Cole from Colombia
| |
|

What Mariah needs is to get rid of the heels, the drama, the cleavage, and all of that stuff, and re-invent herself as a mature woman who can still (she proved it) sing. She needs to remember audience weather is pop/R&B/Jazz or whatever she likes to do, that she is the singer to be, the archetype of a female diva. I hope she can realize that we love her for the moments she provide us all over the world through her music, and music only. I will be a Lamb for life no matter what, but I want her to do what she does best: make us feel.

I know a lot of people are really wanting Mariah to do a jazz/blues album next. I don't think it's right. While I'm completely here for Mariah doing one I don't think it'd be right for the very next album. I think Mariah needs do whatever it takes for her next album to be big. I know some people don't care about charts but I do. I don't want Mariah to go out as someone who couldn't get a hit. Especially since next year is her 25 year in the industry (assuming the album comes in 2015) who wouldn't want her to be on top. The next album needs to be number one and have the song of the decade on it. So hopefully she'll give us a Daydream/Butterfly/TEOM feel with the next album since those are her best albums.

I think a major cause of their separation probably has something to do with Nick cheating. It hasn't been confirmed that Nick cheated but I think Mariah's intuition is right. Nick wanted Mariah for her money and the weight her name carries he doesn't care about her. With each article I read about Nick and Mariah Nick that my opinion of him worsens. It's like he doesn't respect Mariah enough to keep his mouth shut.

Next album - The Mariah Carey Show (48,817)
by Warrior Butterfly from USA
| |
|
|
As a vintage lamb , I think a Jazz/Blues album could be every cleansing with a Sarah McLachlan feel album. Draw from her real life in a more raw way, direct (Eminem type of honesty) where we as general listeners know exactly what the message is without following his career extensively. It could be a very refreshing recharge of her work. I know MC writes in a broader style so everyone can take what her music means to them, and she has achieved this type of honesty before without much guess work or metaphors Looking In, MIH, Outside, CME, Petals - if you already thoroughly familiar with MC's bio - Sunflowers For Roy, to name a few stand outs. The average listener dipping in and out of MC's music in general might question what does she mean by this line, verse or song for those who really dig lyrical content or story telling. Someone not aware of lamb culture if you will, could get lost in her lyrical presentation and think what was that about exactly?

Jazz album (48,816)
by Frisbee from U.S.
| |
|
|
I'm new here. Does anyone remember "The Wind" from "Emotions"? She could do a jazz album with some Ella, Dinah, and Nancy Wilson covers. I think sometimes artists insist on wanting to do what they want in the studio. Sometimes it's better to listen to a producer who makes suggestions about which direction an artist should go. Look at Streisand, Manilow, any of those people who went in a million different directions with their music. It wasn't the end of the line for them. If anything, it breathed life back into their careers. She hasn't lost her voice, this is a woman who can do whatever genre of music she wants. That takes talent.

Re: Big Boy / Nick (48,814)
by jaker20 from US

I've said it when they got married, I said it when MC had a baby, and I'll say it again now. Nick Cannon is a user and took advantage of Mariah from the start. The Big Boy interview simply exposed what he really is about. Why put blame on interviewers like Big Boy or Howard Stern? Trash is their job and they know trash when they see one. That's like going to a strip club and blaming the stripper for the guy who slipped money on her panty. Even though I think they were already about separated during that time, I think this is what Nick really is. I can never in my life imagine any of my relatives talking like that to their wives. Ever. It was like Nick's public humiliation of MC. It was repulsive and disgusting anyway you cut it and I don't think MC and Nick should reconcile for that reason alone. Sure, I can't judge them, but if MC can stand such repugnant person then I guess she is worse. But I don't see them getting together again and rightfully so. I always thought MC is a class act and don't deserve to be with such who is both a user and a loser. Oh, also MC has always told Nick to watch his mouth when he's on interviews. Which means he really is like that in real life. That is MC practically saying "you can humiliate me, but not in public". Can you imagine being married to an immature loser like that? She's endured enough, time to move on.
