Mariah and Whitney / Oscars, Oprah (50,582) by Billy from Greece
Since it was recently mentioned here (in a different context), I thought about bringing it up. I get the impression that most fans prefer Mariah and Whitney live on Oprah. That was also my initial preference, though at this point I prefer the Oscars' version. What I realized about the Oprah live was that there was some overdubbing on Mariah's first big note on the refrain, while the vocal interplay between the two was a bit rougher compared to the Oscars. While some people say that Whitney dominated in the Oscars, if you watch the duet on a good quality video, the performances were complimentary. What I love about Mariah in that performance is that, while not necessarily at her loudest, her voice was very agile, and the many nuances that to me are the highlight of the performance. Whitney's bottom notes were very resounding, no doubt, yet Mariah's high notes (both in the bridge and in the climax) are much clearer than the Oprah version. I also find Mariah's interpretation in the Oscars more expressive compared to the Oprah duet, though that was impressive in its own right. Finally, both MC and Nippy looked stunning in the white dresses, and the setting was very arresting. Looking back at it, with a distance of a decade and a half at this point, it is a highlight in Mariah's career, and also a great testament of that precious collaboration and diva friendship. I love diva collaborations.

Vegas (50,581) by B from USA
I hope Mariah rearranges her hits to fit her current voice. Instead of straining to hit notes that could damage or ruin her voice permanently.

MC (50,580) by B from USA
Mariah is working on her upcoming residency. To think otherwise is foolish. She knows what's at stake. She most likely is working with a vocal coach to get her voice in shape. That way she doesn't have to use a backing track or lip. She's been ridiculed for depending on them and lipping poorly.

Her ab libs during those performance, which were clearly live, were amazing. Her voice sounded in fine form during those. I'm going to Vegas to see her and I'm so excited. She delivered during her Christmas concerts at the Beacon. People need to stop expecting her performances to sound like they did during the 90's. I'm going to continue to support her and look forward to her future release and endevors.

Another tv/concert documentary series (50,578) by Cgee54 from Usa
I think Mariah would benefit from doing one of these tv documentary/concert like the one she did in 2003 when she released Charmbracelet.

Mariah's state (50,577) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I have just watched the Jamaica concert, and I'm not happy. I think Mariah is in a bad place right now, she didn't sing one song as it should be done and she was all over the place. I guess she was a bit tipsy that evening, but if you have to be that to hold a concert something is wrong. The voice is there, I don't know why she is messing it up so much. For the Vegas shows I'll hope she keep it together and sings the song properly. Her legend status is at stake here, if she have many performances like Jamaica, she will never be hired again anywhere. I am a die hard fan of Mariah and I don't know what has happened to her. I guess when she gets the divorce at a distance and finds herself again things will be great again. But what will happen if she lips the Vegas concerts? Her voice has to be sharp. Does anyone else here have concerns about her Vegas shows? On another note, she never gets any airplay her in Norway, but when I was at the dentist this week, I heard Hero on the radio. I was so happy.

Funny this topic was brought up. I can picture Andrew doing them to Celine's boring a** songs lol.

Whitney Mariah Celine Madonna Janet (50,574) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
Oh boy, here we are again, discussing the good old divas. Those who lived in the 90's surely cannot escape from hearing and listening to these 5 ultimate divas. It's a shame that those 5 were not able to share a stage together. The year 1997/1998 were definitely the year where all these divas releasing their masterpiece album.
Whitney: My Love Is Your Love
Mariah: Butterfly
Celine: Let's Talk About Love
Madonna: Ray Of Light
Janet: Velvet Rope

Mariah Carey (50,572) by Otti from Belgium
When I was still at school, it was cooler to be a fan of Mariah than being a fan of Celine Dion. Mariah at that time had hits like "Fantasy", "ABMB", "Honey" and "The roof". And there is the big difference. Mariah went where no one of her "generation" went. She was pop and hip hop at the same time. Her videos where more sexy, her biracial looks made her unique. I remember that I always thought that Mariah was "white" and at the same time confused. I"m talking "Music box" and "Daydream" era. Until she "spoke" Spanish in "Honey". Mariah is the only artist who has been copied by many artists: Leona, Christina, Beyonce, Ariana, J.Lo, Jessica Simpson, even Celine Dion (I remember a picture of her, I think "Let's talk about love" album). See Google.

Dear Mariah (50,569) by CHAZ from USA
Dear Mariah, first of all, I'll be a lamb for life. Of course, you're going through something major in your life right now. Maybe you need to take a break. But if you feel like you don't, you need to sing from your heart (however your voice can wither) every single time like you did like at the Apollo Theater in the beginning of your career. Just sing like you're trying to prove something for the very first time (even though you don't need to), so people (old fans and new) can resonate. You're an icon, and I would hate for people to think otherwise. I really hope you don't disappoint in Vegas. I am looking forward to seeing you live for the third time. Please drop the attitude and the diva factor. Humbleness gets you everywhere. Thank you for 15 years of musical genius, and I love you. Bryant.

Jon, TheVoice / that 1993 rendition (50,568) by Edward from USA
Jon, when Mariah didn't have to worry about her voice working or not on a performance, she could concentrate on being an entertainer through her gestures, emotion, and confidence. She would even try some dance moves. Now you can clearly see she is more focused on getting through the performance rather than enjoying the performance itself. She's more into being careful about not messing up certain notes than delivering a stellar performance. When she had control over her voice, I don't remember any "glitches" with her earpieces. That rendition of Hero portrays a confident woman with total control of her instrument and technique. I hope she brings some of that confidence to her Vegas shows. I hope she stops using the whistle register as a facade, it is not working anymore. I'm happy she's keeping quiet. She needs to bring a different and more positive attitude before her Vegas run begins. TheVoice, thanks for your words. After I expressed my opinion about Mariah's new booty, I thought everybody hated me. I guess I had been listening to "All About The Bass" too much.

I blame Mariah (50,567) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
For getting me into the habit of doing crazy (yet oh-so-awesome) hand movements every time I listen to her songs. It's not even intentional. It just happens so naturally. I love MC going crazy on stage, suddenly running around and as Jon put it, "punching a ghost" and all the moves. Jon I just want to say you gave me a good laugh and now I will always think of what you said every time I see those moves. Lol "handing out pancakes" what on earth? MC said she didn't realize at first she used to do that, but I think the hand gestures comes from the fact that she gets so into the song.

Live, love, laugh (50,566) by Andrew from UK
Best old school Mariah arm movement is in that video: at "You can find love". You wave the to the word "love" quickly then throw it down to the ground without even looking and move on to other words. Stupid word. Mariah's over you. She got some pointing to do. *sigh* Now it's just fiddle with ear-piece and look like you really need to get off stage for an alcoholic beverage. Or, if you start getting sweats, just have someone press play and f*ck off for one in the middle of the song. Lol you were with me up until that comment, right? Let's all go punch a ghost.

Andrew (50,565) by Jon from Netherlands
Early today I found out Celine Dion has been trying to shoot down God and Mariah is a ghostbuster. I had to laugh out loud. I searched YT for a good montage of hand movements but didn't find it. WBT at MTV comes to mind as a good example (restrained but awesome) but I've been wanting to share this video and is appropriate now because it showcases important moves including (but not limited to): "banging on the door", "I want you for the army", " British queen turbo wave" and the inevitable "handing out of pancakes to the audience" in the end. All of this is taking me back to when I started being a fan. I was blowned away. That CTTA at Divas Live was fierce and also had the badass raising of the eye brown warning you that you better not try to take it away from her because she will hunt you down. Gotta love Mariah. Just gotta love her. She does suck you in. Everybody should watch her performances. The world would be, in a matter of pie, filled with Mariah fans.

Let me explain (50,564) by B from USA
I had a video of Celine preforming MHWGO during which she strained to hit her last note, the note at the climax. I can't find it and the link didn't copy.

Zach Braff (50,563) by Isiah from USA
I thought this was interesting. Zach Braff worked on the set of Mariah Carey's videos. Here's a clip of him talking about "The Roof" shoot.

Belts (50,562) by B from USA
Celine's belts are strong and theatrical but Mariah's belts were clear and beautifully executed. I think Celine can sing. I even own Falling Into You. However, IMHO her voice is [censored].

Mariah's choreography (50,561) by 123 from USA
Was someone mentioning this moment? I loved it when she just hopped up and ran. I love how dramatic she can be. It really sucks you in and you feel the song with her.

The Voice / Say Somethin' (50,560) by 123 from USA
I love the video too. Paul Hunter always makes great Mariah videos ever since Honey and I love her chemistry with Pharrell. I secretly wanted them to date. The song is disappointing, however, had they released Jermaine's remix of the song and made a video as planned, it would have went number one. You cannot tell me that Mariah is not singing her butt off on that remix. I love it. Plus, they released FLAB and it was doing better than SS. If they weren't going to support SS they should have released Mine Again during that spring, it would have done well.

Trey Lorenz / Billy from Greece (50,559) by 123 from USA
You are right, Trey's album does sound like a lost Mariah album. Trey's Make You Happy. To hear Mariah sing "Baby let me make it happen, take you riding in my caddy, if you want me you can have me, you can even call me daddy. Sweeter than a mutha, make never have another, freak you underneath the covers, I can make you happy. Mariah, you slipped this one underneath Tommy's nose. Lol I can't get enough of the hook."

Alabama Shakes (50,558) by whisperingmisunderstandings from USA
Has anyone heard their new song "Gimme All Your Love"? If Mariah did a collab song with them it could be really awesome. Something in the vein of TEOM.

Let them eat pie (50,557) by Andrew from UK
Think Twice, The Power Of Love, Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore, Because You Loved Me, All By Myself, River Deep, All Coming Back To Me Now, My Heart Will Go On, Immortality, I'm Your Angel, I'm Alive, A New Day, The Prayer. Probably sold as many, if not more, than Mariah. The comparison being made was the voice and the state of repair vs disrepair. Not even the most "positive" of MC fans can deny Celine is a global phenomenon in two languages and can still belt. She went MOR and planted her ass in Vegas. And did bloody well. And Mariah pursued urban chart success. But Celine kept much more vocal ability. Yes, this is a Mariah board. But let's not shut down little factoids like Celine Dion, whereas not to *so* many people's tastes (it really can be so cringe), is Mariah's longterm contemporary and an interesting comparison. Whereas the sound of the voice may not be as appealing to Mariah fans (for obvious reasons), I'm not sure anyone could outsing Celine. And even Mariah likes her. The "Celine called me" interview restored my hope that maybe Mariah can be friendly to other massive artists. I think she respects Celine for not having tried to imitate her. So yeah. Many, many famous songs. Ever mentioned what you think is a great Mariah song to someone and they reply with "never heard of it". I know, they're idiots. In fact, I'll leave it there. They're idiots. "Oh baby billing me it's only a matter of pie."

Favorite songs Mariah wrote with/for other artists and/or recorded by other artists (50,554) by Benjamin Fisher from United States
1. Trey Lorenz - Someone to Hold
2. 7 Mile - After
3. Allure - Head Over Heels
4. Allure - Last Chance
5. Trey Lorenz - Make You Happy
6. Faith Hill - Where Are You Christmas?
7. Valerie Pettiford - Lillie's Blues (Turn You Loose)
8. Trey Lorenz - Always in Love
9. Paul Robbins - I Pray
In particular, I think that "Last Chance", "Head Over Heals", "After" and "Where Are You Christmas?" could have been massive if Mariah had saved them for herself. It makes me even more anxious to have a collective of B-sides because it's quite apparent she has at least a few albums worth of unreleased material.
