Signature song(s) (48,594) by Jono from USA
Sorry for the multiple posts on this topic, but I think her most recognizable song would have to be AIWFCIY. Mostly because it has the benefit of being played every holiday season. So besides that, I actually think Always Be My Baby is one of her signatures. A lot of my friends who aren't fans (not haters, just not as invested as I am lol) know that song and love it to death. We Belong Together is also another one; the reason why it might not be seen as a "classic" is because it wasn't attached to a famous film, unlike Whitney's IWALY and Celine's MHWGO. The Bodyguard and Titanic were huge box office hits, which is why WBT might not be as ingrained in people's heads. But if you play any of the hits that us lambs adore, I would say most are recognizable, people just don't realize it's Mariah. Heck, some people still think that AIWFCIY is a cover or don't know that she wrote it. A lot of people don't realize her genius but I think as time goes on, more and more people respect her for what she has done. To finish my tangent, I remember during 2005 when TEOM was a hit, but she was still getting flack. Despite the recent Rockefeller performance, I do think the general public respects Mariah way more now than they did 10 years ago. And I think the power of the internet has certainly helped as well. Just my two cents. But yes, if I had to have a top 3 list for a non fan, it'd be:
1) All I Want For Christmas Is You
2) Always Be My Baby
3) We Belong Together

Listen, WW is especially foul because she always misrepresents one of her producers as an in-house lamb so she can get away with telling blatant lies. She's basically using us dedicated fans to help smear Mariah's good name and lend her ridiculous, oft even slanderous tabloid storytelling, the credence it so obviously lacks. I rebuke it as thoroughly as I'm sure Mariah does. Like you, my heart aches for MiMi to the point where I dread the day Derek Jeter decides to really settle down with a girl not named Mariah. If it's meant to be we'll know soon enough because if he cares for her even half as much as I suspect Mariah still cares for him, he will reach out to her somehow. Maybe not in the whirl of things but eventually. No matter what, Mariah will love again. That's who she is.

Randy, It is frustrating for me too. Some fans might say Mariah should stay the way she is, but that doesn't seem to be working that well for her for a while now. I don't want Mariah to be a different person; I would just like Mariah to be more relatable and humble. She was this multiracial artist with the big voice that everybody loved and could relate to because her story was real, some of her songs were about social issues; she was fun, vulnerable, but sweet and unpretentious. As time went by, her boobs got bigger, her ego went to the roof, the diva came to the front, and everything was more about Mariah the person and not her music. For those who say Mariah doesn't need to change anything, remember that Mariah was successful again with The Emancipation Of Mimi not only due to the music, but to a huge campaign to make people like her again. She definitely was being advised about changing her ways. As fans we want Mariah to be happy, but we want at least a piece of that Mariah we all fell in love with. Beyoncé has played her cards very well. She's laughing all the way to the bank, collecting Grammys and other accolades because she knows how to play the game. Once you believe your own hype, it's a wrap.

Mariah tired of fame? I actually hope so. She's had so much sucess she doesn't need it anymore. You have silly little teenagers saying Mariah copied Taylor Swift when it comes to the song Shake It Off. Mariah at this point is for those who care about music not for the teenager market (the one she would have to reach in order to achieve fame). So focus on making music for the fans. If MC ever decides to go on a jazz route she would have great fans like Diana Krall has that actually appreciate music. I feel like Mariah could have another 25 years of a completely different career, in a way much more successful cause it could be even more about the music. She doesn't owe the fans anything and doesn't owe me anything so this is wihsful thinking but I would love to see her put her catalogue behind and start fresh. Sinead O'Connor doesn't sing NCTY anymore. I say MC could do the same. She has gazillions songs in store for us and we could enjoy a new repertoire and leave the old one in the albums and youtube clips. To start new she would have to accept letting go of fame and her trademark songs. Perhaps it would come back, perhaps not. One thing is for sure: her musical talent will not go away and we would still love her.

I appreciate reading your positive posts. There will always be some ducks on here who act like everything is horrible when the rest of us know for a fact that they aren't. I'll take optimism over doubt any day. Because guess who else lives by that mantra? Mariah Carey. Shocking, I know. But some will always wear their beer goggles and not see reality for what it is; a creative product of unbridled imagination. We're so lucky that we still have Mariah giving us, if not her all then at the very least her best. When most people would have cowered away and been perfectly justified in doing so, she will stand on stage singing her heart out for us to the point where she is brought to tears. Letting all the world see her being so vulnerable is braver than most of us would ever be. If there ever was a time, now is the time we, the Lambily, should shower her with our love and dedication. I trust Mariah Carey to know a 120% what to do with her own life before I ever let random, caustic, anonymous posters dictate anything regarding the supposed reality about someone as inspirational and uplifting as Mariah has been to me for most of my life. Like, why you try so damn hard?

I loved reading your last post. You appear to be a very nice and an intelligent person. The problem with MC is, she is still relevant (comparing to Celine, Janet) and that makes her after 24 years very vulnerable in the eye of the public. Everyone is wachting with eagle eyes, is she giving a concert, making a video, releasing a singel or album? It's like people are waiting for her to fail. Can you imagine if she stopped after TEOM? Then she was at the top of her game, even her USA tour was critically acclaimed. At that time she was only 36 year old. And now she is paying the price for being relevant. When was Celine Dion her latest Hot 100 appearance? Or Janet? Mariah did appear with #Beautiful in 2013. But on the end she has nothing to prove. And after all this years I think she is still underrated. Beyonce sings (I mean talking) Drunk In Love and she got a Grammy. Mariah sings her lungs out of her body and no recognition. Nowadays everyone can get a Grammy, no matter what you sing, how you sing. You can talk, use autotune. Beyonce is by the Grammies so overrated, I don't get it.

Wendy Williams (48,588) by Dove from USA
I'd never heard of WW before somebody on this board mentioned she was slamming MC so I went and looked up her clips and, yeah, she does make MC look bad. Sometimes she'll give her a compliment but it's usually backhanded. Like when she was suggesting Mariah belonged in tampon covered Atlantic City. I found this clip from a few days ago (start at 4:10) and WW is actually being nice to MC and it seems genuine. The story is probably fake but at least it evokes compassion instead of ridicule. But I also noticed the audience seemed bored with "nice" Wendy. I watched several clips and I do find WW funny and entertaining when she's talking about other people, I just don't like when she slams MC. I feel like MC is in the last stage of her career as a public persona and I don't want her to go out as the butt of everyone's joke. I feel like she's tired of fame. Maybe I'm wrong but it's just a feeling I get, like the passion (for fame) is gone and she's just not into it anymore. She's had enough success, and made enough money, that she can now make music for herself and for her fans without making money or winning awards anymore. My dream is for her to be at the very top one more time, before she slows down, but who knows? I want her to find true live and live happily ever after already. What's Jeter up to?

Signature song / Stacey (48,587) by Edward from USA
I think that Mariah's signature song is definitely "AIWFCIY". Different from Celine's "MHWGO" and Whitney's "IWALY", "AIWFCIY" returns every year to be exposed not only to those of us who experienced it when it first became popular, but also for those from a different generation who might not be interested in Mariah's music, but who will inevitably sing and bounce to her Christmas gem. 40 years from now, Celine's, Whitney's and Mariah's catalogs might not even be remembered, but Mariah will have that one song she'll be remembered for, not only for a few decades, but maybe for centuries to come. Stacey, nice to know you have little lambs in the making, that's what I call a true fan. Thank God Eric got rid of the thumb down.

Baby (48,586) by Bill from the UK
Baby, huge thank you for posting the acoustic AIWFCIY. That was incredible. I think those unheard ad libs will be from the original '94 session, as they are in keeping with the original, and also the "I don't need nobody else" ad lib was used in the Low Sunday dance remix which came out in 2008/09 (I forget when). Loved the jazzy kind of scatting she started doing too. Every time I play the song, it is over too quickly, and I remember as an 11 year old when I first had my cassette single of it, how I wished so badly to know what else was sung after the fade out. I guess between the Low Sunday and this acoustic version, I now know. Thanks again, a real pleasure to listen to.

Merry Christmas, Stacey (48,585) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love your new icon. I love Mariah's 1994 Christmas photos. I almost picked that one. Lol. Seriously, if we can't peacefully accept one another's viewpoints when we're talking about things, just on the most basic level of human respect, then there is something wrong. I don't think anyone should have to defend their fandom. It isn't a huge deal, and in the end has zero impact on what Mariah does, musically or personally. Lol. I'd venture to guess there have been times (for example) where you possibly haven't agreed with things I have posted on this board, and if so, I don't think having a different view is a personal attack on me as a person. I say what I feel, but I don't expect all people have to see things the same. I've been reading/posting here for years now, and the moment someone mentions another artist (like Celine, Mary, Madonna et al) people get all defensive and it's all about how "Mariah is the Queen". Now, I love Mariah, she is hands down my fave singer/vocalist of all time. Been a fan literally since VOL. I also love Madonna's music I have since I was 6 lol. Are the two comparable? Not in the least. Apples and oranges I don't see what enjoying more than one artist has to do with being a fan either. I love a whole assortment of musicians, but it doesn't make me love Mariah any less. There should be room for everyone. Same goes for a messageboard. Cute story about your daughter.

Signature songz (48,582) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Yes, that's songs with a Z. Mariah is quite simply an embarrassment of riches because one can argue she has unlikely signature songz like "Oh Holy Night" that have been around for over a century which has been sung a million ways from here to every Sunday. Yet, hers is now the standard, the benchmark from which all other singers will be measured for as long as anyone who ever heard her rendition is alive. It's always credited as "Mariah Carey's, Oh Holy Night". So ironic that songs she actually does write herself she often has to claim publicly just so people can know she crafted them from scratch. But I digress, I'm talking about MC's signature songs and their abundance. Let's not even talk about "Without You" or (in no particular order):
1. AIWFCIY
2. Anytime You Need A Friend
3. Hero
4. One Sweet Day
5. Emotions
6. Vision of Love
7. We Belong Together
8. Fantasy
9. Butterfly
10. Always Be My Baby
I'm sure every lambs list differs a little bit but I doubt it's by very much. Tis the season y'all, so be jolly.

I forgot where I was for a second (48,581) by Randy from USA
I answered a question someone posed: Why is MC not respected by the industry? I am a fan. Always have been or else I wouldn't spend time on this site. Can we have a dialogue? Some of you are raising valid points I didn't think about. It's not necessary to attack me. I think my problem with MC is that I'm tired of defending her. I think a lot of you must live in cities full of lambs and have only facebook friends that love MC. My co-worker said to me today "Oh I love MC but she can't sing anymore." My mentee asks me "Did MC get her voice back yet?" on a daily basis. My godson's mother thinks MC is nothing but a whistle register. I'm watching Beyonce become the most nominated Grammy female of all time. So I have theories. Since everyone thinks that I am dead wrong; what are your theories on why MC gets so much criticism and hardly any accolades? This is the woman that wrote Petals, Languishing, Right To Dream, Outside, Butterfly, My All and Vanishing. When the image portrayed doesn't fit the deep introspective lyrics that made her a genius to me, and others criticize her, am I not to ask questions, when I know what she is capable of? Wendy Williams, the #2 most watched daytime talk show in the country, since most of you think she's irrelevant, is talking about how bad her concert is today. Yet many of you act like all is peachy keen and the whole world loves MC. And MJ's legacy has been tarnished for a long time so please don't tell me he was getting away with being eternally 12.

New AIWFCIY acoustic guitar version with unheard vocal adlibs (48,580) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

It's so incredible how this guy managed to get a hold of what must be Mariah's original master from either '94 or '10 to do such a stellar remix. You guys just have to hear the genius of it all. The jazzy improvs? It's absolutely brilliant.

Similar to Maria Callas voice? (48,579) by Cgee54 from Usa
Lately I've been hearing Maria Callas recordings and I'm truly struck by the quality of her vocals during the beginning of her career. However upon hearing her last performances the quality in her voice had diminished especially in her upper register. I mean she still could sing but it wasn't the same. Upon researching I found an interview of her speaking about her vocals and how the critics expected her to sound when she was 20. It reminded me of Mariah's current vocal state and maybe if Mariah talks about her vocals in a similar way Maria Callas did maybe the public would understand. Critics since then have been debating why Maria Callas lost her "voice" in her 40s. Some say she stopped her vocal exercises because she was busy taking care of Onassis and critics say she lost her voice when she lost weight. They say that because her posture changed as she lost weight. I know we shouldn't compare an opera singer with a pop singer but Mariah did get trained by her mother which sang opera. An interesting read on Maria Callas voice. Do you think Mariah may have suffered something similar to Maria Callas?

The mark of a true fan, lol (48,575) by Stacey from USA
Over the years, I've had my fair share of drama with past and present members. Some have questioned my fanhood, called me names, etc. A lot of times we don't see what we as individuals outside of this forum do on a daily basis. During the Christmas season, I have played AIWFCIY a ton. So much so lately that last night as I got some take out for dinner, my 6 year old daughter sang bits and pieces of it on her own. It was so cute. She even requests it in the car without me saying anything. So the next time anyone wants to question my love of Mariah's music, check yourself. I must be playing it a ton if my kids can sing along. Now that is the mark of a true fan. *smiles*

Signature song (48,574) by B from USA
What is Mariah Carey's signature song? When it comes to most artist it's usually their biggest hit. Celine's was My Heart Will Go On and Whitney's was I'll Always Love You but when you try to pick out Mariah's signature song things get tricky. Always Be My Baby? One Sweet Day? We Belong Together? I'm always torn between Breakdown and The Roof. Vision Of Love? Hero? You can say a lot of thing about Mariah but claiming that her hits aren't hits is insane. Most of her hits have set airplay records that haven't been bested and her sells most likely never will be so I cant even get your point Randy. Every single she released in the 90's had a b-side or must have remix included so her fans never were cheated, some even have several remixes. I know people that aren't lambs that love the remix of TGIFY. It was huge. So huge in fact that Joe decided to include the remix on his album instead of the original.

Nonsense (48,570) by THE TRUTH from USA
Is there any other female singer on the pop music radar who holds a candle to Mariah? If there is then please tell me who that would be otherwise shut up already if she has a bad day or if she chooses to lip synch now and then. This Christmas thing, she's singing back to back shows, six of them and she'd be a fool not to lip synch a bit and save her voice.

Randy (48,569) by Otti from Belgium
1. MJ was also acting "eternal 12", but he is a legend. MJ and MC said once, if your childhood was tough, then you gonna stuck there.
2. Thank God I Found You was a numer one hit because the predecessor Heartbreaker was number one, then it's easier to have people and radiostations waiting for the follow up single. The fans buying the singel plus airplay is number one. Why wasn't "Can't take that away" number one? Because it's popular by the fans. Like I said you need more than fans and lambs to have a number one hit. Randy can you define "signature song" for me? Do you need as an artist a signature song?
3. Glitter was a flop, because Mariah was broken hearted for Miguel, as a fan you should have know. Don't forget 9/11, since it was also the release date.
