Relatable (48,771)

Mariah Carey is relatable. The media's portrayal of her is not. The media is the reason the public thinks she's an out of touch ego maniac with delusion of grandeur. A delusion of grandeur is the fixed, false belief that one possesses superior qualities such as genius, fame, omnipotence, or wealth. It isn't really a stretch to see why they say and write the things they do, lol. She is a musical genius, she's famous, and her voice is other worldly.

Bless you for trying to make sense of nonsense. The whole purpose of that frivolous lawsuit is for that woman to never work again. As in retire. Nobody with half a mind would buy that she was underpaid and mistreated by Mariah for seven consecutive years. Wouldn't her friends and family have made her see the light much earlier if that were the case? 16 hour days with no meals? Isn't it Mariah who makes all her employees sign contracts to ensure that she gets regular breaks, food and rest, to avoid what happened in 2001? I don't even bother with these kinds of stories. They just do not compute. We all know Mariah likes familiar faces. For her to drop you like a bad habit doesn't speak well of you.

Boomerang, I love your posts too, In fact I went and read all of them, again. I always end up doing that when I see a balanced post, it's usually a pattern and yours don't disappoint, even in hindsight. Now to the rumour that The Elusive Chanteuse Show is coming to Europe next year. Allegedly Eddie, MC's choreographer, told some lambs at one of the Beacon shows that Mariah is going on a world tour next year. Whether it's the continuation of TECS or MC25 is up for grabs. Could this be that big, elusive 2015 announcement that was teased in November, back stage, on tour? Did you get to see her during the CB tour? Of all the times to be working abroad I had to pick the only time she ever had a concert in Sweden. Still not over it.

Those videos are incredible, thank you for posting. I agree, they really need no comment as the performance speaks for itself. JTTW was totally awe inspiring. Those high notes were beautiful and she sang with such passion and energy. What a woman and what a voice.

Actually, it has. I think this (along with 2001) is one of the worst years for her ever since she came. Her album flopped, no hit singles, she's gained a lot of weight (still look great though), she separated from Nick and of course the bad performances from TECS and the Rockefeller disaster. Hopefully she can bounce back with a hit and good performances and regain the public's attention and admiration.

I'm so happy Mariah is doing better. Her voice has improved a lot. It won't be long before she releases a great album and slays.

I agree with all the points you made about Mariah being very relatable, but the casual fans that struggle to relate to Mariah will not know any of that. Obviously Mariah's relatability doesn't matter to us because we're lambs haha.

Mariah's year hasn't been that bad really. MIAMTEC and her concerts at the Beacon Theater were well received. The only negative things were the divorce and the Rockefeller and opening night performances which were just bad days that even Mariah Carey is entitled to.

I was totally blown away esp at 1:26, kinda sounds "Daydreamish". It's so beautiful. And it's not even the hardest note. Proof that you really don't need to belt your lungs out just to sound beautiful. I want to hear more of that kind of melismas (not sure if I'm using the term right lol) but yeah it's one of the her best in recent times.

I have to say one thing I really love reading posts of B from Sweden. She nailed it everytime, with every post. It's reality, you can say it better than me. Just what I think, and you say it. You can see through the madness. And also that avatar picture, nice choice. From the Butterfly era.

Daydream, Butterfly, The Emancipation Of Mimi and Merry Christmas. The fact that Mariah has had so many successful eras is amazing. She has nothing left to prove. Baby, maybe we can live in Mariah's little world with her since we're all delusional.

Mariah Carey is beautiful and a lot of people think she's just a pretty face with a big voice. Another Whitney. They don't even bother checking their facts when writing or reporting about Mariah. They just write articles that say she sings and fail to mention she's also a writer and producer. Look at Aretha and Barbra. Are they even remotely good looking? People aren't threatened by them because they aren't the total package like Mariah. They both have amazing voices but aren't good looking at all.

I think what Marissa is trying to say, and I agree with her, is that Mariah Carey is relatable but the general public hasn't seen that side of her since E=MC2. We fans overlook it, because we already know her. We keep up with every little things she does so we know it's not true. The Mariah portrayed in the media before E=MC2 is a very different Mariah than the one portrayed after. We as fans are going to buy her music no matter what, we already love her. But people who are newly introduced to her, or don't follow her as closely as we do, a lot of them don't like her. I'm not just making this up to be a hater. All the negative comments that people post on Facebook, articles, and blogs are the same. When they say "diva" they mean the word that starts with a "B" and ends in "itch". That's the public image she holds for a lot of people right now. It doesn't mean it's true but I think it does affect record sales and that's the only reason I'm even bringing it up. In the 90's people bought Britney Spears music because they liked her, not because it was good. Not saying Mariah has to change or pretend she's not rich, I love that she's rich and successful. I love that she's over the top and festive. I'm just saying I think it would benefit her to show her good side a little more. Most people don't know about those things you listed. You don't have to agree, you obviously don't, so let's just move on.

Sofia and Camp Mariah (48,753)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

It booggles the mind doesn't it? How more relatable do you get than Mariah Carey as far as megastars go? Just look at who her friends are, the same people going back decades, before fame in many cases. And then the fact that several of her die hard fans have even been able to work for her professionally shows just how accessible she really is. Mariah's not very concerned with only keeping celebrity friends. In fact Lenny Kravitz and Brett Ratner are some of the people she's known since she was a teenager. She also has maintained her professional relationships from era to era. She's not fickle at all in that way, very loyal to the one who are loyal to her. Never mind her love life, I mean how much more accessible do you get than marrying some guy no one ever heard of after a month and a half of dating? And what exactly is diva behaviour anyway? Buying her mother a house, putting her whole family through school, donating a million dollars to a camp for underprivileged kids etc. But let her joke about overhead lighting and suddenly she's a diva. Let her sing live when she's nursing a cold and she's lost her voice forever. Mariah's critics are always more dramatic than she will ever be.

I hate to say it but I think the picture is fake. Vision Of Love was written after she signed her recording contract, and all the sources say her demo tape only had five songs on it (Alone In Love, Someday, All In Your Mind, Prisoner and Do You Ever Wonder).

Relatability (48,751)
by G.G. from USA

Mariah does need to be more relatable. She has alienated many fans and the general public with her behavior and strange interviews. If you think being relatable isn't important, just take a look at her latest albums sales. They weren't great and that has to do with her behavior and not being relatable.

Mystery demo tape (48,750)
by Lee TS from USA

Well according to the post the demo tape belongs to Tommy, it was his daughter that had posted and deleted the pic. I kinda believe it especially with "Here We Go Around Again" because I remember Ben Marguiles mentioning that song. I checked out Tommy's daughter instagram and she looks young like a preteen/teen. I didn't know he had a daughter that age, I thought they were either grown or very little with his current wife Thalia. But yeah, poor girl is getting attacked by rabid fans demanding for the tape.

B, I freely admit I enjoy gloating a little too much but I can't help it. Blame Mariah, she's the one who decided to show off and show out at the Beacon night after night. It ain't my fault, dammit. Also: no lambs were harmed during the posting of these messages.

Lee TS, I almost had a heart attack when I saw that pic. Can you imagine finally being able to listen to, not only the demo recording for "Vision of Love", "Vanishing", "All Alone In love", but also songs like "Hypnotized", "Unspoken Emotions" and "Here We Go Around Again"? Since Mariah was fishing for labels back then, somebody must've kept one of those demos somewhere, and I think that could possibly be one of them. I'm pretty sure she handed plenty of them to different people from the music industry. I hope Mariah's people don't get to them before they leak it.

Christmas Show, December 21 - Beacon (48,744)
by DK from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah is a true superstar. From the moment she entered the stage to the end, she showed control, confidence and ease of singing. She has great stage presence, looks and sounds amazing. In an era of mass "pop singer" production, it's easy to see why people assume she lips, but she truly is that talented. Were there moments when the production supplemented her actual singing, yes, but it's also super obvious to hear Mariah's natural voice, once in a bill. experience. As a fan since 1903 I was rather pleasantly surprised to see her in top form. In addition to Christmas greats (wish she had sung One Child) she sang Emotions, Hero and We Belong Together. Trey covered a Christmas track during costume changes, but sounded rather tired. His vocals were hard to hear over the music. Looking at Mariah in retrospect and introspect, I wonder how does one keep going in an industry of demands and lack of appreciation. She must really love what she does. I am not sure that I would be able to fake the smile to the needy at all times. P.S. The show started 30 minutes late, which was annoying. I was sitting on the 5th row (center orchestra).
