Lip synching (45,821) by Dove from USA
The reason I'm okay with it is because I think her voice is more fragile than most and she can only sing well under certain conditions: lots of vocal rest, moist vocal cords, etc. I don't want her to ruin her voice but I do want to see her and I want to be entertained and have a good time. I saw Britney in Vegas and she lipped every song but it was still fun. I had never heard most of the songs she sang but they weren't boring and she had stuff on the huge screens that was fun to look at. It was an experience. I haven't seen Taylor Swift in concert but I saw the special on Netflix and her concert looks like a fun experience too. A lot of creativity on the sets and cheesy dramatic hand movements, but it's fun. Of course I would rather she sing live but if she's going to be struggling and straining to the point that its painful to watch because she's damaging her voice I'd rather she just lip it.

I agree that sometimes there are also attacks for being too positive. We should all be able to post our thoughts without fear of getting chewed out.

To clear things up (45,819) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
I get the impression that some people here think of me as a yes person with no real views or opinions of my own, and that I think every single thing Mariah does is just too good for belief and nobody should ever express a negative opinion. But let me make things clear. I understand, accept and know that Mariah is not perfect. Are there things that I would do differently if I were in her shoes? Absolutely. There are some things or decisions she makes that I do not understand at all and think "why?". There are songs of hers I don't particularly enjoy, some performances make me shudder and some behaviours I find downright bizarre at times. But guess what? These things make me love her even more. She is so flawed it's unreal, just as we all are, but the incredible and beautiful things she does make up for that and then some. I respect everyone's right to an opinion even if I don't agree, and sometimes I feel that opinion needs a counter as I feel it is too harsh or unfair. But what I don't do is attack or name call or post vicious, malicious or rude comments. I do not think Mariah is perfect, but I don't need or want her to be. I love her for her unconditionally. I'll take real and the flaws and the tantrums and the diva moments over faked niceties and false displays of humility any day. And let me make one more thing clear - it's hard to post positively on here, as you get attacked for not slating what someone else thinks is not good enough. Just some food for thought.

Meteorite performance (45,818) by Marissa from USA
I don't think this performance was any worse than any she's given over the past two years. I don't really understand the outrage. Maybe people are disappointed because they feel like it wasn't worth the wait. I'm just desensitized to it because I know the days of getting a memorable performance (that isn't impromptu) from Mariah are over. I don't even have a glimmer of hope anymore.

Tour with lipping (45,817) by Keagon michael from USA
As one of the biggest lambs, I would not pay to see MC lip her concert. I don't know how much lower she needs to hit to see her career is a mess. Me. I Am is brilliant but without mind boggling videos with story lines (and not her laying down trying to be sexy or naked with boobs hanging out) she will not sell albums. She needs live performances on Ellen and Fallon, The View, Katie, The Talk, etc. She delivered what fans want on an album but other than that she is clueless. Poor MC.

Positive/negative comments (45,816) by Dove from USA
Like Jason Mraz sings, "The absence of the light is a necessary part." We live in a relative world and we can't appreciate the good without the bad. It is hurtful to read negative comments because we love Mariah, she is like our family and we want her to always be perfect. But we can't pretend like everything is great because it's not. Something is clearly wrong and we can't pretend we don't notice. I would hate to work for her because I would be afraid to tell her how I really see it and have her yell at me, or give me the silent treatment, or fire me. I'll admit I'm kind of an enabler with the people I love. It's obvious, something is wrong. Sometimes I'm afraid to say anything slighly negative on here because people do jump on you, on this board, sometimes. I think a balance of the realist and idealists is a good thing. What Orkun said is true, most of us just choose to focus on the positive. But I'm sure to some extent we're all thinking it. It's true, that wasn't her best performance. I prefer reading positive comments but negative comments have value too.

Meteorite (45,815) by B from USA
"But it's on what many Carey fans will probably find the most throwaway cut, 'Daydream Interlude (Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix)', that the singer really defines herself. At her best, as she is on this clipped, spunky track, Carey is a disco diva for the '90s, a worthy successor to trailblazing women like Donna Summer and Vicki Sue Robinson, R&B singers with an affinity for the endless groove." That excerpt from a review of Daydream explains why I love Meteorite. The description fits Meteorite perfectly. It sums up my feelings about the track and Mariah.

Mariah's shoes glued to the stage? (45,814) by Will from England
Maybe I was watching a different performance to you guys, but from what I saw, Mariah did what she usually does (hip swaying to the beat etc). It was not more or less than what she does on stage. I enjoyed the performance and the two whistle notes (lipped or not).

Blah (45,813) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So here's what I hope for her tour. Firstly, I really wish she'd release and promote a single, Thirsty or YDWTD (I don't care), just any upbeat single. Go to some staple talk shows, let the world know about the album before embarking on the tour. Secondly, she has until October to rehearse. At this point, let's face it Mariah probably doesn't have time to go on vocal rests and exercises to fix her voice (I mean if her kids try to strike a conversation she can't hold up a cue card saying "run along"), so I hope she atleast rehearses lip synching properly. Yes, I do want her to sing live, but judging by recent performances I am assuming she is either having some voice issues or she is insecure that her voice has been damaged a little so she uses a track to avoid people thinking she is no longer a good singer (in my opinion she still is the greatest). This tactic has backfired one too many times. So if she chooses to lip synch she needs to do two things: 1) Record a different version of the song and use it. 2) Practice really hard so that the miming is not evident. If she chooses to sing live she should also change up the songs a little to suit live performances because let's be real, it's very difficult to sound as good as one's studio version. Thirdly, I really hope she uses the stage a little more. Dance around, play around or at the very least walk. Last but not least, keep them outfits sexy but classy. (Like the Meteorite one.)

Julie Taymor (45,812) by Dove from USA
Other songs I would like Mariah to cover are Dear Prudence, The Long And Winding Road, or Let it Be by The Beatles and Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. I was watching the movie Across The Universe and was reminded that it's stunning, visually. Wow. Mariah should hire Julie Taymor for videos. Or make a movie musical. I always think of the legacy and longevity. Across The Universe is a classic, Mariah needs something like that.

We Are The Champions (45,811) by Dove from USA
My dream cover is We Are The Champions because the lyrics just remind me of her life, career, and her. I've always thought her voice sounded best when accompanied by real musical instruments. Here are the lyrics: I've paid my dues, time after time. I've done my sentence, but committed no crime. And bad mistakes, I've made a few, I've had my share of sand kicked in my face, but I've come through. And we mean to go on and on and on and on. We are the champions, my friends, and we'll keep on fighting until the end. We are the champions, we are the champions. No time for losers because we are the champions of the world. I've taken my bows, and my curtain calls. You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it, I thank you all. But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise. I consider it a challenge before the whole human race and I ain't gonna lose.

Abraham (45,810) by Dove from USA
In response to post 45780 (sorry so late). Celine, Whitney, and Mariah are the best voices of my time. I love them. But Mariah is my favorite. I'm Your Angel gives me the Every Time I Close My Eyes vibe. I imagine how her voice sounded then on IYA. I love gospel music because it's so positive. I like hearing her sing those types of songs because it shows she's still humble and doesn't think she's a Lightening McQueen who does it all herself. I also like I Am Free. Elvis was mainstream artist who did gospel songs but I can't think of anyone else. I wouldn't call myself religious but I definitely believe in a God/higher power that is inclusive and pure love. I grew up going to church and learning the teachings of Jesus but I appreciate other teachings too. The book Autobiography Of A Yogi was enlightening and life changing for me. I respect public figures like Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, and Michael Jackson who devoted their lives to making the world a better place.

Lip synching (45,808) by Dove from USA
The reason I don't mind if she lip synchs is because she's already proved over her career that she can sing live. Obviously something happened to her voice and it's not as effortless for her as it once was. But if she's going to do it she needs to make it look real. Record a slightly different, more raw track. Practice in the mirror until it looks real. I want the experience of hearing her live, I want some movement that shows she's feeling it, I want something exciting that matches the track on the screens, and I want good outfits.

My label (45,806) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Mr Optimist? Hmm, "Lately they've been calling me the eternal optimist. I like it." All jokes aside, whatever people want to say about me is none of my business, however I do apologise to professional musicians who feel wounded or exasperated about my enjoying the performance.

Final thoughts (45,804) by Orkun from The Netherlands
PJW, Thank you for being brave and actually get what I typed. Webmaster and everyone else (most): I had no positive posts and yours were? I said, the album wouldn't sell. It didn't. YDWTD, you guys were screaming for that to be a single. I favored Thirsty, by far. And many other stuff. Now, we are a few months further. And? Does it make us happy when we are right? Sometimes. But for me, this is not one of them. JD called Mariah fans stupid. Such a hater he is, right? I will never ever post here again. Peace and love to everyone who does or doesn't get me.

Old songs (45,803) by Dove from USA
Going back a few days we were discussing Mariah singing her older hits more often than her newer stuff. I was thinking about it and I think this is why people say she's a has-been. She always sings Hero, ABMB, WBT, etc. I know these are her biggest hits but it makes it seem to people who don't follow her as closely as we do that she doesn't have any good new songs. There are a bunch of songs on MIAM that could have helped make entertaining, high energy performances. She just needs better petformances and better videos.

Meteorite performance (45,802) by Dove from USA
I was just happy to see her, I missed her face. I liked her hair and makeup, I liked her outfit, I agree it was sexy without being vulgar. The only thing is that it would have looked better with nude underwear. I actually like the song because it sounds superficial but it's actually personal. It's the type of song that she doesn't have to move around the whole stage but maybe should should hire someone to choreograph some dramatic hand movements or something. She moved way more in her GMA performance of YDKWTD. I didn't think about it until someone mentioned it but maybe she is going through stuff and doesn't want to be there. After thinking about it I was reminded of 2007 VMA's and Britney Spears.

Webmaster, really? (45,801) by Orkun from The Netherlands
That was not his advice. That was my advice. What you are pointing out, is what I pointed out. Don't twist it. The following part is not meant for you per se. And to be fair, if people really think that my posts are ill intended, they really are very wrong and don't have the courage to speak up. What I see is (not all), there are many pessimistic people here who claim they are optimistic. The "yes man". One so called optimist even says "I don't care if she playbacks". I don't even have words for that. Yea, let her be her own DJ in her concerts Mr/Mrs Optimist. At least a few thousand people agree with the "optimists" globally. Just checked the view count on YouTube. I am a professional musician and to me, you settled down for this. I didn't. She is able to do much better. Yes, let me be the pessimist. What a joke. Seriously.

Dream cover (45,800) by Dove from USA
My ultimate dream cover for Mariah is We Are The Champions by Queen. I imagine her singing it while wearing the leotard looking thing she wore when she sang I Want To Know What Love Is on The View. I imagine her ending her concerts with this song and dedicating it to the fans. With real instruments and sing it like she's living it.

WMA "performance" (45,799) by Lee from UK
This performance was everything I have come to expect from a live Mariah performance: mostly lip synced, underwhelming, and lacking of energy, dancers helping her walk around the stage etc. There were just enough tricks in their to make the non-fans believe she may have been singing live but for the rest of us in the know it was laughable. I really dislike the song Meteorite, I skip it as soon as the intro begins. My boyfriend thought it was a Madonna song. Why choose a song that has so much post production on it that would make it almost impossible to sing live convincingly? Mariah could have made an acoustic version of the song that would make it easier to sing live. I know it was the "opening number" and had to be full of energy but surely MILG would have been a better choice. After all, it's the only song on the album worth listening to more than once in a row.

Orkun (45,798) by PJW from The U.K.
I stand by his opinion. It wasn't a good performance. And yes, that is exactly what Katy Perry means with the Mariah Carey karaoke lyrics, I just didn't want to be that specific in my Katy Perry post as sometimes posting on here is too tiring due to the abuse you get in return and if you couldn't figure the dig out then I felt it was better leaving people in ignorance. I can see how people can perceive Orkun as having a negative attitude but I see him as a realist who was and is passionate about the fantastic artist Mariah Carey was. That she is no longer that person/artist doesn't invalidate his experience or opinion as a fan. Besides that, I don't think it's fair to judge someone on their past comments and use that as ammunition now. More than one of you are guilty of offending another (whether offence should ever be taken or not is a different matter) and in this instance, his comment was correct.

WMA performance (45,797) by Darryle from USA
I watched her perform Meteorite and I wasn't really impressed and to be honest I don't really care. As long when she's touring she brings her A game and sings live works the stage and all that jazz. On a side note the acceptance speech was great. I really enjoy watching her acceptance speeches because you really get to see how much she appreciates us as her fans and how thankful she is for what she has.

Optimists versus pesimists (45,796) by MimiLamb from Germany
Actually critiquing each other gives an inside how it feels to be the subject of criticism, something to think about. It’s never a good feeling if somebody does that and directs it at one particular person. It’s not only about Mariah on this messageboard but also us as fans/lambs/optimists/pessimists etc. There will always be 2 groups, the pessimists and the optimists. How many times did the pessimists call the optimists delusional? Or how many times did the optimists call the pessimists goats or nonfans? It’s a never ending cycle.

WMA and Meteorite (45,795) by THE TRUTH from USA
Mariah is in no condition to be out there doing what she's doing. She is being exploited by her handlers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's going on. Very sad. As far as the song, yes it could have legs in the clubs but is that really what she needs right now? Besides it really is more suited for a non singer, JLo or Madonna maybe. Mariah needs a monster ballad but more than anything she needs to take time off, rest, and go back to the drawing board without all the leeches, vultures, and parasites she's surrounded by.

Orkun (45,794) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
I also can't remember that you said anything positive about Mariah. And now you're upset because Abraham treats you the same way you treat Mariah. Funny. Maybe you should follow your own advice and "accept Mariah as she is".
