Record deal (45,434)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Although I enjoyed Glitter, Chanteuse and Triumphant, I don't think it's a good idea for MC to go on without a deal. There is no denying the woman is a musical genius, 24 years in the business and still coming out with new sounds every era, however I agree with jaker20 that she isn't really a great business person. If Mariah wants her music to sell (which no matter how people argue that she doesn't care about, but she does), then she'll need a label to back her up, a whole team to guide her from promotions to videos to styling. Yes the Chanteuse era was a disaster however who is to know what really happened? Up until Chanteuse all other albums were promoted heavily, shows lined up, great promo shots, good styling blah blah. Yes some bad single choices but hey you lose some you get some. Even the Christmas album was promoted a lot. So a label can really benefit her. Mariah can take control of the creative side but if she wants to stay in the business she will need help with the rest.

Agreed. MC being fully in control isn't good for her. MC seems like the type of person who is more of a creative than a businessman. I think MC should stick to singing and songwriting and leave the rest to others who will guide her through it.

Triumphant Get 'Em was pretty horrible but I think that's because she was hardly in it. The parts she sang were good. I really like Glitter and MIAM. I like all her albums and my favorites have changed depending on where I'm at in my life. She can still get input. I just think that she should be calling all the shots now. I don't know how the music industry works, or if she needs one for promotion. But the way I see it her record company barely promoted her last two albums anyway. It seems like they don't really care about her. I think she's the only one who truly cares and I think it's worth it to just go for it and try it. If she fails miserably she'll learn from her mistakes and grow stronger, and keep going, or if she decided she likes the record company better she can always go back. She should just relax and do it for fun now. She's been working pretty much her whole life. This is an honest question: What does the record company provide for her that she can't get on her own?

The only issue with that is we would get a lot of "Triumphant Get 'Em's". In addition, the two albums she served as sole executive producer on MIAMTEC and Glitter are among her worst in my opinion. I like when she has control but some guidance. I like the LA Reid albums. I also like when Tommy had some input like Daydream and Butterfly.

I kind of don't want her to get a new record deal. She's finally free. I think she should just release stuff on her own, when she feels like it, without pressure or other people making any decisions. I believe she can do it.

Photoshop, thankfulness, social media as a platform (45,428)

These photoshop pictures are ridiculous and are pissing me off. It's like everyone is out to get Mariah. But anyways some of them don't look as bad as I thought tbh. Someone brought up a good point saying they could have tampered with it. I would also like to thank the webmaster for all that you have done. Mailing the newsletters, having to constantly put up stories, and editing each and everyone of these posts. It must take a lot of work and we are thankful for that. Another thing I would like to take advantage of is using social media as a platform to help communicate with the fans and do a little self-promo. I would like to see you guys on twitter, because it makes it so easy and instant to share news about Mariah. My twitter is @MariahCarey2014. And my Instagram is @JustinAlamillo. It would be nice to see you all on twitter and Instagram. Again thank you so much webmaster, I know it takes so much work to keep this site up. Thank you.

Photoshop (45,426)

Every other Google news hit while searching for Mariah is screaming "this is how Mariah looks without photoshop" or "Mariah's shameful pictures" and all. That gets me upset, she doesn't look like that. It's just bad angles and very bad dress choices. Mariah looks really gorgeous from her candids. Secondly I hate it when people say "Mariah never was and never will be this thin" when they see pictures of her where her body is slimmed down (not the Terry one, I am talking about other shoots) well they clearly didn't see her pre 2002 and then again in 2008 when she was super skinny. I think Mariah looks bulkier than she is because of the boob job. She has a tiny waist but since she had the boob job starting 2002 her chest looks wide and that makes her look bulkier than she actually is, because she was really slim and even now has a small waist line. Things Mariah needs immediately 1) a new record deal, b) a genius manager, c) a great stylist. She needs to work on being a fashion icon.

Jezebel article (45,424)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
The picture from the Jezebel article looks fake. It seems they got the pic from the photo shoot and photoshopped it to make her look bigger, etc. If you look closely around the outlines of the dress and hair, it looks like they tampered with the picture. I don't believe that's really the original picture. I really wonder now what the original looks like. Viewing the Jezebel website, it seems it's not prestigious.

I love Mariah whatever size she may be, she always looks glamourous and beautiful. I love her personailty even when she acts like a diva or whatever. To me she's one of the most down to earth people, she's very special unlike most other female artists who are fake. But the thing is Mariah is insecure about the way she looks ie like when she posted an old image of her was it from 1997. I think she's aiming to be like that again and when she feels she's at her top in image again she will slay, we just got to be patient once again lol.

Photography (45,421)

Shelly, I don't know if you understand how the world of photography works, but in a session there is more than just the photographer, sometimes there are involved about 10 people in one place. Everybody is always open to see the pictures and anybody who was there could snatch them, it usually happens, Mariah is not the first artist to have happened and I'm sure, if I recall, it's not the first time it happens to her. All original pictures are always kept. It doesn't matter the kind of photographer she gets, they all retouch pictures, either by request or on their own for either color retouch, enhance, etc. Mariah is well known for having most of her pictures over retouched but then again, even famous top models as Michelle Bundchen get retouched for magazine spreads, tv announcements, etc. It's an awful norm in the industry. But we all know pictures of MC that are candid and she always looks good. No matter if she loses weight or she hires another photographer or she gets a new stylist, there will always be people who want to throw her shade, jam and beef, then again those same people do it to everyone else. I do think she needs a re-style, 100% with you there. Her image hasn't change in ages.

It is true that Terry is a well know pervert and I have heard one too many rumors about him, however I don't think he was the one who leaked the pictures. Because it kind of was done to show that his signature method of photography is not really effective which basically makes him a crappy photographer. He does method and tries to pass of his photographs as candids that don't need editing. His signature photos are of the sort of documentary like (basically pretending to be candids) but with the leak of Mariah's pictures it shows his original versions are actually not effective. So it basically trashes his methods. I don't think he would want to do that to himself and he doesn't really have anything against Mariah. The more celebrities he has in his clientele the better for him.

I think MC is very insecure about her look. The non-stop photoshopping of her pictures, lack of appearances and promo support this. But in Hollywood and pop music industry who isn't? I think she doesn't want to be photographed, let alone shoot a video and not looking slim or the way she wants (whatever that size is). I thought the video for YM is so weird. She is wrapping herself with her hands like she doesn't want to be seen yet she is barely dressed, the quick cuts in the video, and the camera angles. They're all so weird and cheap. I hope MC does those cool videos again. And she doesn't have to be slim. MC needs to be more comfortable of who she is. She's so gorgeous. She doesn't have to be in a bikini all the time in her videos. How about just sitting in front of a piano and singing? She used to do that in her promos in the 90s. She doesn't need to be in a bikini to sing on a piano. Let alone roll atop it like her last YM performance, which is, again, so weird.

Stylist / photographer (45,417)

With all that money I don't understand why she doesn't hire a good stylist (who knows what he's doing) full time. And a photographer for that matter, someone she trusts who won't release bad photos to the public or Photoshop her to the point of looking like a wax statue. It would be Christmas for me if she released another EP.

Terri Richardson and Photoshop (45,415)
by Dove from USA

That photographer seems like a creep. I was reading some of the aspiring models stories that have come out about him and they made me feel so sad and disgusted. I hope she never works with him again. He probably had something to do with the release of these pictures to expose and humiliate her but she doesn't even look that bad. Clearly the poses suck. But other than being a little too orange - she looks better in the originals. I screen shot the one where she's biting the necklace and lowered the saturation and it was fine. The one where she's holding the champagne glass - her pose was weird and she can't help that. I liked that her tiny bit of cellulite on her thigh showed. It's endearing and makes her look like a real person. The one with the kids, the only thing is her stomach and even that is not that horrible. Either wear a longer shirt or have them touch up the imperfections on it one by one so that it doesn't look too smooth and fake/waxy. That guy probably still gets work because he gets young models to have sex with his friends and people who hire him. When I said her stomach is the only thing I would change I meant in the picture where she's with the photographer and he has his thumbs up, not the one with the kids. And I wouldn't change the shape, just go in and smooth out the tiny stretch marks. I hope I'm not offending anybody, I'm just saying my opinion. For the record, I'm a mom too and my stretch marks are worse than hers so I'm not hating. I just want her to look her best without going overboard and looking like a completely different person.

Re: Shelly, Mariah's style (45,414)

Mariah was getting a lot of fashion advice from André Leon Talley during that video shoot. I wished she would have kept some that advice, she looked confident and glam. She should stop wearing long body-tight dresses all the time. She should have mix it up once and awhile, like they way she did back in '05-'08.

Three new songs / has she saved the best for last? (45,413)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
As I had said before, Mariah didn't give us the best she's recorded in the last five years. I always knew she was going to use some the songs that didn't make the last cut for her next album, but never had I imagined she would use some of them as bonus tracks for a possible re release of MIAMTEC. The Memoirs bonus tracks were mediocre at best, leaving "The Art of Letting Go" hanging there in such company. Now I'm intrigued. What if Mariah is planning to release an EP? JD said people are going to be talking more about what's coming next. Let's see and keep our keyboards crossed, I mean, our fingers.

Terry Richardson and photoshop (45,412)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I find the whole Terry photoshoot such a waste. That is possibly one of her worst shoots and now this little scandal. By worst shoot, I don't mean she looks bad, I just mean the pictures are not good, she looks uncomfortable. MC knows how to appear sexy in shoots, but in these pics she just looks uncomfortable. The image used on the magazine cover was the only good one. The one with her thighs out and a champagne glass is my least favorite. The pose is stiff and she doesn't look comfortable. And it's not a flattering angle. The dress is horrible too. Then the picture with dembabies is a little cringeworthy for me, I mean she could have worn something else and had a cuter moment in the pic. The one with her and Terry is also a bad angle. All in all, a bad photoshoot and now people will again start with "oh photoshop" thing which is pointless because every celeb uses it. I don't mind her excessive use of photoshop on the Chanteuse cover, since it's an "artwork" nobody claimed its candid. Artworks are not always representative of reality and I like the picture. So no, photoshop isn't a problem for me. But I really hate the terry shoot. Bad decision.

SESAC vs. ASCAP vs. BMI (45,408)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
Hi fellow lambs. So SESAC is not management or PR, it is an agency that collects royalties for artists from teh playing and performing of their music, like BMI or ASCAP. Mariah had been with BMI. ASCAP and BMI are really the big players in terms of popualr music. Their collection of royalties relies on the artist having massive hits. SESAC seems to be relying on the use of an established artist's catalogue more than on current smash hits. I am not sure what this will mean in terms of where we hear her catalogue. Frankly, the only place I hear her music regularly is my Stop & Shop grocery store. Always playing her. That may have to do with a musac contract or something. Since membership in SESAC is by invite to songwriters, MC may have felt flattered because she prides herself on her songwriting. Perhaps she feels she will get new partners through SESAC in better exploiting her back catalogue. Not sure. Either way, this change doesn't directly speak to her current label, representation and management issues. Be well.

Photoshop (45,406)
by Darryle from USA

I wish Mariah would stop with the photoshop or at least speak up about it. They went overboard, it was too much, especially when Terry Richardson is known for candid shots. They thinned her wrist, got rid of armpit rolls, added eyeshadow and tons more. Why does Mariah feel that she needs it anyway? She post photos with no photoshop on her Instagram all the time and to tell the truth she looks amazing. She truly doesn't need it. On the plus side though, she does look like she's lot weight since then so good for her. I know some people say who cares if she uses photoshop it's just a little touch up. Well my problem with it is that she talks about being perfect and that maintaining supermodel size 0 is unattainable yet she photoshops her waist and adds all over bronzed and things like that. I believe she has full control over the photoshop. Like the album artwork for MIAM, she knew what those pics looked like and still choose them even though she was going to use the childhood picture. If you don't like your figure work on it or just take chest up pictures.

From what I'm reading so far, this organization is merely a royalties collection agency. They collect royalties when her songs are played publicly such as malls and stores. I think this covers internet too, but not sure. So MC is protecting her works and that's a great thing. But, not to be negative, I wonder what she'll be collecting now that few venues even play her songs anymore.
