Hey. Thanks for your suggestions. I think Fantasy is a must, however I might hold into Dreamlover for later. It's so hard to chose the right songs to try out. And surprisingly I have seen Mariah is so talented some people liked some of her songs even if they don't like that type of songs. Like for example a friend of mine really liked Cry and TAOLG which are very raw ballads and I was surprised because he doesn't like ballads at all, on the contrary he is more into the recent trends. It took me about 3 repeats to like Cry but he liked it on the first listen. Makes me proud of Mariah. Anyways so I was thinking definitely We Belong Together, Faded, YME. The rest I am open to suggestions. If anyone has any songs to suggest it will be great.

I'd try Vision Of Love since it's what got the general public interested in her in he first place. Then AIWFCIY her most popular. ABMB, WBT, Hero, Breakdown, and a personal fave from the new album. I'd go along the lines of songs you'd first think of when you heard the name Mariah Carey.

Control (45,025)

Does Mariah have any control over what happens with her singles? I mean gosh I understand she can't control everything but if she can't even pick her own cover art. I think I'm starting to see why Mariah thinks record labels will start to go out of business. I'm also seeing why some people want Mariah to go the indie route with an independent label. It would give her more control over things like this.

It depends, what sort of music is your friend into? I think you should give her a mixture of the old and the new, as well as the commercial ones and the hidden gems. Choose songs that show off both Mariah's vocals and her songwriting. Fantasy and Dreamlover maybe?

I completely agree with everything you said. Also I listened to YDKWTD no rap version and for the first time (I like Fantasy, Honey and Loverboy without a rap) I guess Wale put some flavor on it and I like it more than this no rap version. Perhaps I got used to most of her songs with rap and it is clearly a signature of MC. She's the one who started this kind of trend in songs anyway.

A little help (45,022)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I am trying to get one of my best friends on board the lambily express. Took me years but finally she agreed to listen and asked me to give her a few songs to try out. So now I love almost all her songs so I can't decide which to give. If any of you can name a few songs that I can suggest, it would be great. Please bear in mind she hasn't listened to a single song by MC yet so the songs I need to give her should almost hook her at first listen. So basically the more commercially appealing songs. Thanks.

J.Lo on Wendy / Mariah's "Marilyn persona" (45,020)
by Tiina from Finland
| |
|
|
I watched that episode of Wendy with J.Lo as well and the entire time I was thinking why isn't Mariah sitting there promoting her album and chit chatting away, having a heart to heart as a woman? I've never cared for J.Lo because the woman can't sing, sorry, but one thing is for sure, she's got it going on even still after all these years. She's very down to earth and funny. Very likeable. And she hussles like no other. To go on Wendy was a brilliant idea because like it or not, Wendy is hot right now. The couple interviews MC's had with Wendy on radio are her best. She was honest and funny on her show because Wendy is all about questions that get to the point and real discussion. Most interviewers are afraid they're going to say something that Mariah the legend won't handle. And about Mariah being like Marilyn. No, Mariah should take note from Marilyn that she's loved even after 50+ years after her death because she was the most humane star of them all. People love Marilyn because she was real and sensitive, even nervous. Mariah's been through a lot in her life like MM, it's that humane side of her we love, the survivor. If she's really insecure then why doesn't she show us that side? It's ok to be human. Arrogance is a turn off no matter how big of a legend you are.

Thanks man. It's not like me (or fans like me) get any fun from criticizing MC and Lord have mercy, go ahead and say that MC should behave the way JLo does in interviews but we do so only because we wish nothing but the best for Mariah. Like you mentioned, Mariah is not just a singer she is brand which includes her attitude. We can't isolate the two. People fell in love with Mariah years back because they loved her voice and because they loved how humble and relatable she was. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the diva act occasionally, and I will once in a while indulge in some of the terms she uses, but it's not always fun. I was also talking about the Wendy, Andy Cohen and Fallon. In all of these JLo looks like she is so excited, jokes about herself and her mom, answers directly and all. She doesn't pretend the interviews are boring and that she is tired of answering same questions. I look at the screen and I am like "I dislike your music but you are a charming person". Basically JLo made sure her image stays positive, you hear these diva rumors but you see her and you are like heck I can just go and talk to her, so sweet. With Mariah nowadays it's like she says she isn't a diva but you see her everytime on and you think wow ok she's grand. One funny thing I noticed, previously when asked if she is a diva Mariah would go on saying she isn't, that there are 2 kinds of diva and that she is not the second kind. But nowadays she doesn't even say it, she is now almost a self proclaimed diva and readying Monroe's image as a diva for the public too.

Lol, I haven't justified what J.Lo did. It was very uncool and underhanded that she used a sample Mariah was going to use and that she took other elements of the Glitter album for her own. I don't agree with what she did at all. My point is that Mariah was just as bad (worse even) in the early 90s. You say J.Lo's sabotage is a "fact", well then so is Mariah being sued by certain songwriters for using their work without permission and settling out of court. It's your refusal to acknowledge that which is the issue here (still calling it inspiration rather than stealing). The point is that we as fans can not sit here bad mouthing J.Lo when Mariah herself acted just as underhanded. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. If Mariah had a clean record I'd be with you, but she hasn't.

JLo, sampling, "Lambs" shading Mariah (45,016)
by SiahhBailon from USA
| |
|
|
I am a big fan of Jennifer Lopez same as Mariah. I loved Jennifer, I knew who Mariah was. I don't know why people believe the media, Mariah and Jennifer never had a feud, Mariah even talked about it in an interview (found on YouTube) that things that she supposedly said weren't said at all. And I bet most of you don't read the credits on Mariah's albums that do say that the samples she's used were all given permission by either the writer or producer of the song that she samples, even if it's not her directly. What people don't know is that Jennifer writes some songs, not all but some. Now on to these so called "lambs" I don't know how you people can call yourselves fans of Mariah when all you do is shade her 24/7. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. You people bitched that there was no tracklisting, no cover art, no title, no nothing before anything was announced and then as soon as they were released you people bitched again "I hate the title", "that cover is soo photoshopped she's not skinny anymore" like who cares. I'm just happy we got a new album. Even though you people don't deserve it. You people gotta remember she is a mother now, her children come before anyone including her fans. Back off her. Stop bitching and grow up. I swear. Ungrateful people.

Re: Adam stealing vs. sampling (45,015)

Mottola separated from his wife legally before meeting Mariah, so no she didn't split them up. He needed a star and she wanted to be one. They had a professional relationship, they didn't start off dating. He divorced Lisa Clarke in 1990 before pursuing a relationship with Mariah which he openly admitted in his memoirs. Nice try though. Those Allure statements you made are not in Allure magazine, it's gossip fodder that's never been confirmed or denied by anyone. If you believe that gossip than you're also going to have to believe the gossip that J.Lo banged Mottola for 3 months to get her record deal. Irv Gotti is the producer for both records from both artists and Ja Rule was on both tracks who were present with J.Lo's theft of If We. They witnessed her part in it and yes she was aware. She used a sample, and that's not illegal, nor is it the "theft" referred to. That sample was meant for Loverboy, and MC found another one. The theft is for If We. Mariah didn't steal someone else's concept. She was new to the business, still young, and didn't understand legalities. Unlike J.Lo, Mariah paid up for it and righted the wrong. J.Lo was 31, with Mottola, watching music while it was being created and put it out herself before Mariah could. Which is why MC couldn't take any legal action, but Ja Rule and Irv Gotti vindicated her.

A new album is out and we are discussing J-Lo? Ebonics? The reason I haven't posted much lately is I'm too busy enjoying the album. Wise up and spend more time on things that matter. Geez. Edward, thank you for posting the no rap version. Wale doesn't bother as much having listened to the song so much, lol. His raps are kinda cute and fit the song. However, I am just thrilled there is a no rap version out there. Now, if I can just get my hands on a legal download of the song, I'll be set. Bill, thank you for your candid thoughts on using samples. Every artist has bent the rules at one point. Mariah is no different.

Mariah's best interview (45,013)

The whole discussion about Mariah's incoherence in recent interviews reminded me of this interview. It is frustrating to know that she used to be so eloquent and articulate. The other interview that I really like is the one she had with Larry King in 2002.

I'm not missing the point and I did read up on the subject. I get that you are equating Mariah not getting clearance to sample a song to Tommy and J.Lo's sabotage. I just beg differ that they were the same. As I explained in the prior post, I can see the line being blurred between recreating a sound and sampling at that time since the beats though similar weren't identical (Robin Thicke is going through the same scenario with Blurred Lines sounding similar to Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up). I really don't think MC had malicious intent. Legally she was wrong and she paid the price. It still doesn't justify or excuses Tommy's blatant malicious sabotage to her career. I don't feel that the term "dose of her own medicine" was a fair assessment of the situation. I'm willing to agree to disagree. I'm over it. Everybody does hate Mariah, "she a drunk, bitter, washed up legend that got what's coming to her" that's what the world is thinking. She can't change people minds even if she had a televised love fest with J.Lo, Nicki, Tommy and a special heart to heart with Eminem. So it is what it is. Everyone can feel as they please. *throwing the towel in* Peace.

Do you remember "The Lambs' lullaby"? (45,011)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
When Mariah Carey was going through tough times and was admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion back in 2001, some French fans wrote a song called "Lambs Lullaby" that goes along with the "Looking In" music. I was going through my Mp3s today, and I found it. I'm posting the lyrics down below. If you would like to hear it, just send me an email to b_terius@yahoo.com
We look at you and see the girl Who lives inside the golden world But don't believe That's all that our heart sees Get rid of your melancholy
You look at us and see the fans Who scream your name, dazzle your eyes But don't believe That's all there is to see Then you will find your dignity
In our eyes you'll always find your soul Forget this burden on your shoulders Don't fear to lose yourself, fall asleep Your lambs watch over you
Release yourself from your own jail It's time for us to give it back to you Turn our love into stability Your light will shine eternally Your smile will be reality Spread your wings and you'll be free

Diva attitude (45,006)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
Sometimes I like the diva attitude, I think its funny and cute. What I don't like is that she almost always looks a hot mess. She always wears those long mermaid dresses and they don't look good. She's apeoplee shaped, her hips are not wide enough and her waist is not small enough. Even in the 90s when she was underweight she had an aple shape. She should wear knee length dresses that show off her amazing calfs and shoes. Also, her boobs arent looking that great in real life so she would benefit from covering them up. I think tight dresses would look good because they would aaccentuate her figure. The most flattering haircut and color on her is the one she has in the Honey remix video. Unless she's wearing a gown, in that case away from her face on the sides but with sideswept bangs. The colors that look best with her currently tan skin are of the autumn palette. I think if she looked her best all the time and had a kind, sweet, and humble attitude like she did in the beginning, it would benefit her. Look how it's helped Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.

I think you're missing the point. I agree that Jennifer Lopez is not anywhere near the league Mariah is in, in terms of vocal and song writing ability. They are however in the same camp for using other people's ideas without permission. Just like Mariah never sought permission from the writers for her use of Best Of My Love and I Want To Thank You, J.Lo never sought Mariah's permission to use Firecracker (though it was never Mariah's permission to give, it's really a question about the songwriter's integrity as to why they would allow J.Lo use it after giving Mariah clearance months prior). Still you refuse to acknowledge Mariah's wrongdoing, still referring to it as "inspiration" and blaming Tommy. Last time I checked he didn't have a song writing credit on either song. Read up on it, the songwriter sued Mariah (saying "sampling is one thing, but she took the whole song") so it was clearly more than a homage to the group.
