I do not care for low album sales. I don't care for low singles numbers. Only music matters. Why? Last week I had no opportunity to listen to the album (and music at all), but everywhere I went, the music followed me, just in my head. Mariah is a genius.

My problem with the Billboard article is that it reeks of a double standard when Mimi puts out an album that sells less than 1 million copies. This is purely bullsh.t given that Billboard just called an artist an "icon" despite her selling less than Britney Spears. The album sells less than expected and it's code red. And yet, no one writes any articles or says anything when artists like J.Lo put out four flop albums in a row. Where are these guys when Shakira sells only 50 million albums? Bruce Springsteen only has one #1 hit to his credit, and these reporters are still kissing his butt.

Ever since the album came out and she wanted to "secretly" release it Beyonce style while announcing the date, I have had a hunch that she is going to promote and creatively support the album randomly, over time, and sporadically. I think she likes the surprise element and is trying to do something new. We may get surprise videos, performances, etc without much notice. I think she wants to break some rules on how it's done, similarly to how Bey did but in a different way. It is just my hunch, but I believe the silence is all a part of it and not a mistake. We'll see. Either way, I'm loving my album.

Jermaine's interview with the Breakfast Club here. Around the 36:00 mark he talks about Mariah's album sales. He also posted on Twitter, June 11th that he's "tired of caring about other people's *** more than they do". Reading between the lines and my opinion is that he's not liking the fact that Mariah isn't promoting this album either.

When things don't go the way the fans expect, we tend to blame everybody but Mariah. e.g., "Randy" isn't doing anything for her, he isn't a manager. When Mariah chose "The Dream" to produce most of MOAIA, fans lashed out blaming him for its ill fate, then he lashed out at the fans calling us ungrateful, stating he had enslaved to Mariah so she deliver the product (and knowing our diva, I believe him). If one of her videos is whack, God forbid Nick is anywhere near. Now the fans want to lynch little "JD", literally. But, who is the common denominator in all of this? Well, it is our dear and beloved Mariah Carey. Obviously she doesn't want to delegate control or hire anybody who could tell her: either you adhere to the plan, or we're done. I like JD, but just like The Dream has his ass whooped by the fans, now he is getting his whooped beautifully too. Just like Mariah didn't stand for The Dream, she won't for JD either, and it is sad, because if JD is right, she should at least tell us to be patient, that something is being worked on, without going into specifics. I think it is time for her delegate some control to professionals who studied hard for it. You just don't drink some Butterfly pink drink and turn into a seasoned manager. And don't worry, I'm already hanging off my cross, waiting for the nails to be put on my wrists.

Does anybody remember the last time Mimi left a message for us? All we get is her stunting on her instagram. But that sh*t ain't everything. She has not directly addressed us in a long long time. Whatever the issues may be. What's the excuse for that? Something's up for sure but I'm going to patiently wait I guess. My boyfriend asked me the other day if I still love Mimi just as much or just follow her out of habbit after all these years. I said I think it's a bit of both.

I wish Mariah would speak directly to the fans and address the lack of promotion and going on with her bad press as of lately. It's not JD's fault or Def Jam's. She is clearly very hard to manage and wants to do things her way. It's just hard to defend her behavior from a fans perspective anymore, it's like she's not the same person she was in the past about her fans. What I mean specifically is remember during the Glitter era where she would leave messages on her website and play NTT on Twitter and created Lambily Day to answer random questions from fans or when HoneyBFly was actually a real club and had events to go to with exclusive access? That girl doesn't exist anymore, it just seems like she's ploying all of us like she cares anymore about her music or fans. If she's over the game then just be honest and sign off otherwise don't play both sides of the game and be disrespectful to your most loyal fans and still expect them to support your endeavors.

Re selling out/using her music to brand (44,719) by PJW from The U.K.
In response to recent comments stating she isn't using this drink as promo for her music and that she's never allowed her music to be used in commercials etc, both are untrue. Butterfly drink comes with content linking you to album promo and the "You're mine (eternal)" video and I read that an advertising campaign will follow using "Thirsty". With regards to selling her songs for commercials, she's done so internationally throughout her career and publishing allows her music to be used on any random programme. Only the other day I heard "Hero" being used on quite a crass tv show. Advertising wise, have the Intel commercials been forgotten so quickly where she sat in the library singing "Mine again". Or "Love story" for MTV? Similarly, although she wrote new material for it, she had the Pepsi deal with "Time of your life" and other ringtones and also "Misty moon" for that Japanese tea company in '02 or '03. Don't believe Mariah doesn't use her music for financial gain outside of record sales, she's done her fair share.

Let's put things in perspective. The last 5 years her main sources of income have been nail-polish, beauty products, questionable live engagements with heads of state/dictators, and a gig with Idol she didn't even like. This beverage is an extension of it. Her music is not selling anymore, and these last two weeks, we got that message loud and clear in an embarrassing way. She is not Madonna who parlay album releases into $250 million grossing concerts. In fact, she's not Madonna who still sell 2 million per album worldwide (isn't that an interesting development these last 5 years?). These are facts. Now for my opinion: I think MC is destroying her legacy. With each passing album release, she's becoming a laughing stock. And to the person who said at least she's "not endorsing a FIAT, ice cream, or Adidas". Well, let's put it this way: they're not calling her. These companies shell millions for "artists" who who will be good ambassadors to their products. Her album is not selling, and from her YouTube hits from new performances, she's not engaging audiences either. So how can she sell these products? People don't seem to like her as a person these days, and this includes many of her fans who didn't buy the album and were repulsed by this new beverage. I mean look at this forum, in the many years of posting here I've never seen this many fans this negative about her. It's not surprising. MC is in a fast moving downward spiral. Some just don't want to admit it.

I did 5 years at the university studying business. Regarding Mariah Carey you have to understand one single thing. Promoting and marketing ask for a lot of money. Regarding the beverage it is a marketing launch to get money, promotion will be on its way. Mariah is one of most famous artist in the world, so for the music industry it is an image to use to get a lot without spending a lot (yes Mariah has to be a clown and the music industry the leader). As the sales are not massive (but I'm sure that if illegal downloads would be taken in consideration she would be a great winner, because more you are famous, the easier it is) they are marketing her. If this doesn't work, they won't do anything else. It is not Mariah's fault but now making business in the music industry if you have not a lot of support of fans or commercial you are f****.

I don't understand why some people are in a tizzy about this Butterfly water/drink. It's obvious she is not using it to promote her music (other than placing the album on the table at the press confress). If she wanted to promote her music and new album, she would go on talk/radio shows and play music, or at least talk about it. I believe there is a bigger picture that we are all missing, mostly because none of us are in the industry. There has to be something behind the scenes at the record company. Maybe I am a bit naive but I believe the smear campaign that started in the Charmbracelet era is still going strong or reignited. It's not like she isn't putting herself out there. She still comes out in magazines (whether postive or not its still publicity), people are still talking about her. How many other artists from the 90's are people still talking about? The media talked about Whitney (RIP) but it was negative with her addiction and such. She is still getting her name out there. Let's just all come down and buy Butterfly, or don't buy it and move on with your life. I doubt she needs any more of your money if you don't want to spend it on her. She's doing just fine without it. I'll keep on supporting her because she keeps putting music that I like and enjoy.

I won't say she's selling out, but MC is being a tad hypocritical. I distinctly remember her saying after Virgin dropped her that she'd never do anything for a "monetary moment" again, and that's not only what happened with Idol, I feel like it's whats going on with this "beverage" (or maybe not - nothing about this move makes sense to me). I, too, am not happy about the neglect (for whatever reason) of this album. She spent all this time "slow cooking" and going back into the studio for finishing touches, and doesn't even give us the lyrics? She did more promo pre-release on Instagram than she's done post-release. I'm not at all convinced that what's going on there is her fault. I lay the blame on Def Jam. And I need Jermaine to get off twitter with these open letters and write a frigging promo schedule. Do that. We need to see something pronto. Also, the dahlings and ultradivaness have been on my nerves since 2008. She's ostracizing whatever's left of her straight male fanbase. Like everybody else is saying, she's too unrelatable and is starting to walk the way of Michael Jackson with the regressed maturity. And it's just not as funny as she thinks it is. It's long past time to put that and "being insecure" to rest. Hire a writer to script you some scenes as a legendary talent and grown woman with 24-years of business savvy. We know how much you love to act. Lastly, I'm all the way on board with the #JusticeForMeIAmMariah hashtag movement.

I don't think that Mariah is selling out with these business ventures. For me, being a sell out is to stick their name on a product that already existed and taking a check out of it. She gets involved with the development of the product, she's not the Beyonce, JLo, Katy, etc. type of artist that you see selling out to corporate companies that get their money from letting them use their music as jingles for commercial, on television and movies or the artist themselves putting companies products on their music videos. The only song that I have heard that was used as a jingle was AIWFCIY, but isn't all of Christmas music used for that? Plus, you don't see Mariah's music being used on television or films because she doesn't want her music to be just known for those things, that's why Glee isn't able to sing an original Mariah song, so they have to go around it and do a cover of Mariah cover song. Mariah has done deals with some brand companies like Pepsi, Pinko and Jenny Craig, but she used Jenny to inform the public about Women's Heart Disease.

Selling out is when you do something against your own grain for sheer profit. After 17 years of music Mariah decided to pick up a few hobbies that went hand and hand with her music career. It makes sense she'd want another creative outlet. The woman is a girly girl with 500 hours of beauty school, so you can't say things like perfume, makeup, and boots aren't interests. They aren't only interests, but things that go along with the music industry she's involved with anyway. Beauty is a part of that. You can't even say this "beverage" is selling out because the sole purpose is to get closer to the fans. She's being innovative and pioneering new ways to connect. If this was done for just money, it wouldn't be with a company that's not established, still up and coming, and only available to just 2 locations. Mariah's not selling out because everything comes back to her music and the fans. When MC starts endorsing a FIAT, ice cream, or Adidas then you can pick up your stones and throw.

Thank you so much for really understanding. People think that we say this because Mariah is in the struggle. No I've been feeling this way before this album, before all of this. The illuminati is more than just music, it's in every form of media and clothing and politics in everything. I'm proud of Mariah right now for not being part of that mess. The reason why the world will go down is because people won't open there eyes and see. And yes Michael Jackson talked about it all the time. Wake up guys. Think about it. Not only Mariah had issues but Michael Jackson too. He was not crazy. And Tommy Mattola was part of it to and the whole Sony thing.

I don't know if I cry or laugh at your comments. From the webmaster, that is the perfect example of a fox in a lamb's skin, to you others sticking with him. Mariah is a music artist first, I agree. It took 5 years for this album to be complete. I agree. Not much promotion, I agree. Now, is it necessary to undermine evrything she ventures in? I mean, along with the drink, she's creating her own social network that can be used for promotion in the future. Are you all so concerned with numbers and chart positions you don't see anything else in front of your nose? It's pathetic. Not only you're calling Mariah a flop constantly, attacking her manager, her looks, her business ventures, you're not helping basically. The music is good, enjoy it and be thankful for it. And the part about condoms, why not ? Practice safe sex, it's always a good advice, especially these days. it would be cool I think. Besides, the time for focusing your money only on music is over a long long time ago, all artists risk businesses so, why should she be different? If this page is so concerned she is focusing on other things, different from music, why post all the news about those businesses. Be consistent with what you preach I guess.

Joe, in the middle of all this mess, we have to laugh a little. At this point most of us have expressed our frustrations about what's going on with Mariah and the promotion for this great body of work. I'm one of her remaining fans, but I'm not buying a pink bottled water, even it is brought to my door. I would say: Thank you, I'm not "Thirsty". Most likely by the time Mariah is in shape for the YDKWTD video, the album will be out of the Hot 200.
