Props (42,988)
by G.G. from USA
| |
|
|
I give props to people with originality and creative abilities, not people who take ideas and try to pass them off as their own. Thirty Seconds To Mars and David Bowie did the surprise release before Beyoncé. Period. She acts like she came up with the idea on her own. She has been called out numerous times for taking video concepts from others and putting her name on song writing credits that belong to others. I don't like unoriginal people who steal.

Wow (42,987)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales

I really don't understand people here getting so upset about the album release, to the point of threatening to boycot the album. It's really not that deep; it's an album from a music artist. There is no possible reason for anybody to get so upset or angry about this. It's not personal. Some people need to learn to relax and shock horror - buy the album if you like the music, don't buy if it's not your taste. Why the drama and hysterics I'll never know and frankly don't want to. Looking forward to listening to the new album (be it May 6th 2014 or 2024).

My two cents (42,985)
by J from USA

Obviously Beyonce wasn't the first to release a surprise album but let's give props where they are due, her album broke records and really in my opinion started a new trend which I believe others will follow in the future. No, Mariah's album release won't be like Beyonce since we already know it is coming but the whole releasing it digitally probably came from Bey's album anyways. Nothing wrong with that.

Damage control (42,984)
by TLP from Germany
| |
|
|
"The suprise release" is only another strategy to calm down people, because the album will be delayed again (end of May?) and no other arguments or excuses are left. This is gonna be the first MC album I will not buy. To play with someone's expectations is not acceptable. There would be no problem if MC and her team had shut up untill the album would have been really finished and a definitive release date would have been set. At last they only seem to perform damage control.

Surprise (42,983)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
What the label and Mariah meant about the "surprise" thing was not about the release date. It's all about the album title, cover art, lead single, tracklisting, albumcontent (if it is audio plus video or documentary). It cannot be a surprise release since Mariah has already given a target date. So these magazine must do their jobs correctly. It's not even Beyonce-ish but Ashanti-ish type of release. The label or Mariah has to clear this mess up or else the media won't stop dragging her. It's not always the lambs who will keep defending her. They must also do their job. Nonetheless if they are milking on this issue.

5 things (42,981)
by George Golden from UK
| |
|
|
1. How amazing does Mariah look with her natural hair colour on that Billboard cover? I never got the " blonde look". It's been too long now, please go back to your natural look. Lol. 2. Please no rap collaborations. It's so overplayed at this piont and it's what turns a lot of your fans away. 3. More uptempo groovy numbers, a few EDM won't hurt at all. People want to have fun and they need feel good music. Bring on those uptempos. 4. No more trashy and tacky videos please. We need videos with a great storyline. Sexy and classy. 5. Come clean about your voice. If you can't really sing live that much, you can say that and avoid some of those questionable live performances. If your voice was damaged, you can say it. It won't hurt you at all. You still have one of the best voices ever. So bring on this new era asap.

Release of the new MC album (42,980)
by Sunshine Divalamb from Germany
| |
|
|
The funny thing to me is that people really think Mariah is releasing her album Beyonce style. She never mentioned it nor did she mention it's a suprise release. The only thing she said is that she wants to release it digital first because she wants to be the one to reveal the album title and the tracklist seeing it was leaked the first time. The only ones making it into a Beyonce "suprise" release is the press.

Billboard cover (42,977)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I think the Billboard cover is an outtake from the same photoshoot as the one used on the cover of TAOLG single. Because in the coloured version, the outfit she is wearing has a similar strap and neckline as that of TAOLG cover.

Magazines (42,976)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I am happy that just before the album is coming out, MC is being featured on the cover of magazines atleast. But why isn't MC doing promotional photos particularly for these magazines? The picture for the Observer is from 2012's or 2011's shoot for Shape magazine. The picture on Billboard is an outtake from her album shoot. Apparently she was supposed to have a photoshoot and sit-in interview for Billboard but Roc kicked her on the nose the night before and her nose swelled up somewhat. But if Mimi can perform with a broken arm, couldn't she do a small photoshoot and let them photoshop away the flaws? I don't like it when they use old photos for new events.

Hey Mariah, I'll embrace whatever cd you come with. I will buy it because I love the music you make, the things no other artists do. They copy each other. You are original, you have talent and the elements to appreciate you. Your duets are beyond a fantasy. And you should shut their mouths once again, forget about the [censored]. I stay in love, I am proud you have come so far, achieved some many for them to follow. So I am a fan, a spiritual one who wishes you the best and can't wait to hear what you have made for us. Suprise (42,974)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
This surprise is a bad idea. I get why Mariah's doing it because she wants releasing music to be like it was back in the 90's and stuff. When you released your work people would treat it like a work of art and the album was viewed as a whole instead of being so single focused. But it's so Beyonce-esque that people can't look at it for what it is because they're blinded by the fact that she's copying Beyonce. I think everyone knows this really isn't a surprise, even JD said it wasn't a surprise. I get the feeling that she's doing this just to get out of promo as well. I'll buy the album whether or not there's promo or if she released it this way but it's getting her more backlash than praise. And right now Mariah needs all the praise she can get. It's getting her in the news but not for the right reasons. And any publicity isn't good publicity.

The general public have no idea about a May 6th release day (most of them) so who cares if it's being delayed again. Let MC take care of her business and release the album she wants. I secretly hope it's not May 6. I just want this album to be right and Mariah to be ready.

by SiahhBailon from USA

I thought people posting on here were lambs and dedicated fans of Mariah but apparently I am wrong. I totally agree with JD when he said that people are only sold on the promotion. Like people saying they aren't buying the album if it's pushed back and because there's no album title or cover art or tracklisting. That's stupid and you guys dare call yourselves lambs? That's sad. You guys gotta understand that Mariah is married and a mother now. Her kids come first and even before her lambs. Only parents will understand that. I am just happy to know that there's a new album to be released soon and I will be buying it even if it's pushed back because I am a dedicated lamb. If anyone got offended by this, but no shade but shade.

Sigh (42,969)
by G.G. from USA
| |
|
|
I could be wrong, but I don't think Mariah said she's doing a Beyoncé type of album release. I think those were Billboard Magazine's words. I think that Mariah did the interview and that's Billboards spin on what she said. Also, for the record, you oughta know Beyoncé wasn't the first recording artist to do a surprise release. Jared Leto & Thirty Seconds to Mars did before her. David Bowie did it also. So, the surprise release was not Beyoncé's creation.

Mariah's Billboard cover story and interview (42,968)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
The quotes from Mariah's Billlboard interview have me excited. She admits that You're Mine (Eternal) flopped because it was a ballad and Triumphant was for Nick and Whitney. It was never an official single. I think she has an amazing single that has a sing along hook and a banging beat from a big name producer. Fingers crossed. Hopefully, Brett Ratner directs the video and Mariah slims down and looks amazing (she always does).

Strategy or stalling? (42,967)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I think everything said about the album at this point is improvising/ stalling/ covering up. It looks like there is no true strategy, so I've stopped trying to make sense of it. Since when is Mariah so determined to "surprise" us with an album title and tracklist that she doesn't care if it's pissing off the lambily in the process? An album title isn't really a good surprise because we'll hear it and be over it after 5 minutes, at least I will. It's the music that counts. This has been the era of confusing improv. She posted a picture yesterday that said "studio break". The album drops in 9 days. I'm definitely not believing that everything is under control and it's just the lambily that's lost. Hopefully they pull it together somehow.

Minaj cancels album (42,966)
by QueenMc from Usa, California

Nicki cancels new album release May 5 because of Mariah dropping new album on May 6. "My album is not dropping on May 5, hell no," said Nicki. "My fans are once again thinking they know something that they really don't." I'm assuming the beef between the two.

My two cents and most of you aren't going to like it (42,964)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Doesn't it bother anyone here that MC's media coverage mentions Beyonce in every single article related to the new album? Who is supposed to be the legend? Beyonce releasing an album unannounced was ground breaking. Why is MC following her example? Doesn't this seem like desperation to bring attention to the album since the music was not doing the trick? To this day I can't believe anyone, lambs, JD, IDJ, Rodney Jerkins, Trey Songz, Nick Cannon or even MC herself thought YME was a surefire hit. No one can be that delusional. It is the most boring lead single she's ever released, so if that is our introduction to the album, everyone should be nervous. If MC's comeback single makes it to #81, then maybe they thought name-dropping Beyonce is what needs to be done. Here is my theory. The album was supposed to come out on May 6. YME was released on schedule. It flopped, which apparently shocked everyone. So they were going to push the album back. And then, the fans unloaded their disapproval on sites like this, on twitter at JD, MC, management and IDJ said "uh-oh, better not piss the only guaranteed buyers, her lambs, off". So, this exposed-secret release is a way to get the word out that the album is coming and as much attention as possible on it. At this point they're expecting a flop so they've given up on promotions using the normal vehicles, such as a hit single and promotion on television and in magazines. Then MC will quietly leave IDJ and who knows from there.

Thoughts (42,963)
by clueey23 from USA
| |
|
|
Wouldn't the "Beyonce element" be that it's initial release is on iTunes? I don't know why they're labeling the release a "surprise" and then providing a release "timeframe". I guess just something to talk about. Any who, I've been listening to Butterfly and the material from 2012-2014, along with other current music of today. And I must say shuffled all together, it's amazing the way everything from almost 17 years ago sounds so timeless and current.
