Video boring? (41,509) by Will from England
I saw this comment on another website, that the video was "boring", and it lead me to think about all her other videos (specifically her early videos), and wondering about how they would be received today. VOL could be classified as boring at first, because all she is doing is standing around/sitting on a windowsill and singing. Nothing much going on there. LTT, all she's doing is wandering up and down and beach in a swimsuit. IDWC, sitting around in an abandoned house. Emotions, singing amongst friends and posing in a car sums that video up. CLG, beautifully shot, but nothing going on. OSD, singing in a studio. TGIFY, singing to an audience (same goes for ISB) etc. etc. My point is, is that YME is not the first Mariah music video that has no storyline, nor do I doubt it being the last. Yes, it would have been nice to have a storyline and to have seen more of the rainforest (as someone pointed out below), however, it's not like as if it's Mariah's first non-storylined video. It's beautifully shot and tastefully done. That's my two cents anyway.

Holiday singer / teen market (41,508) by Lyric from USA
I think promoting the song alongside Valentine's day and giving it a Valentine's theme was a bad idea. Of course the song would be forgotten after that holiday, hell the single cover has candy hearts on it. Mariah is starting to seem like a holiday act and I don't want that to happen. She's already heavily associated with Christmas. I'm starting to think Easter is next. Expecting a song to sell based on a holiday is not a good strategy because what's supposed to happen afterwards? I've also been wondering how Mariah can somehow become relevant to teens again. We all want commercial success (even those who deny it) and teens are the largest group of music buyers. Her age is a factor but the ball gowns and diva antics don't make her relatable to teens or people in their early 20s. I'm just wondering what her demographic appeal is and what she can do to make it wider. Anyone have any ideas?

My 2 cents on everything (41,507) by JBfly from USA
First off it's been a long time since I posted on here but I frequently visit this site everyday. Nice to see new faces and of course the older ones too (no pun intended to the "old" fans like myself). Loving the song. Video could've been better in the same league of My All and Butterfly but it still watchable. As for interviews. I believe Mariah knows when to be serious and when to be a diva. Just look at Oprah, Barbara Walters or Larry King interviews versus MTV, Leno, Letterman, Fallon, Kimmel, and radio stations interview. I think it's all about the setting of the interview. And I've come to accept most of Mariahs antics (not all). Do I wish that she could be more serious when it comes to interviews? Yes. But as a human being I think she's allowed to loosen up once in awhile. I can't. Wait for the new album and hope the general public will embrace it. For the time being. We need to continue buying (if you haven't already done it), request on radios and stream both video versions and both audio versions on YouTube because they all count as airplays. Keep it up lambily.

Darryle / Marilyn Monroe (41,506) by Mara from United States
Look up the video for I Still Believe and you can see how glamorous M is. The imitation of MM is all through the video. Mariah looks amazing in that video too by the way. I love her hair like that. Her earrings and the dress. What an amazing video. I would love to see her in that hair color once more. You can also see a reenactment of a Marilyn Monroe movie scene in the Don't Forget About Us video. The pool scene is inspired by a movie scene in "Something's Gotta Give".

I agree with you. It would be nice to see Mariah in a nice blouse and jeans. But her appearance and dresses have looked fine to me. All I care about is the music.

Critiques (41,504) by G.G. from USA
I've been a Lamb since the 90's. Just because you critique or don't like everything someone does or says does not mean you don't love them and support them. I agree that Mariah needs to rein it in a little bit. Her MTV interview was hard to watch. I was so disappointed. That was her moment to show the world (non lambs) why she is the legend she is. Instead it was an incoherent mess. I cringed watching it. She needs to stop the British accent, (dahhling), and stop the diva antics. Enough. You want people to take you seriously as a songwriter and producer, calm down the incoherent silly interviews. You can be yourself and still keep it together. I love MC and want her to b successful. To do that she needs to win over some of the younger consumers. The interviews she's done is not going to do that, IMO.

The album will have revelations (41,503) by Me. I am Carly from USA
I kinna think once the Mariah album comes out, we will start to have a much better understanding of how Mariah feels and where she is at. I expect, as Nick has revealed, that we will see a woman, trying to process a lot of change in her life, and dealing with neediness and terrible fear and insecurity as well as unconditional love and joy. That is the journey she has been through. The interviews and all that will hopefully get better when she has songs to sing and can talk about them more throughly.

Without wishing to start a war of words, honey, it wasn't just your emoticons that were off in your penultimate post. You went from expressing your annoyance of people recommending how Mariah should change to recommending how you would like Mariah to change yourself (in no more than about 7 sentences). I myself have no problems with the words she uses (just the attitude that goes with them) but you must be on another bloody planet if you feel she doesn't use the word "festive" very often.

Andrew / thoughts (41,501) by clueey23 from USA
I think MCs actions would annoy me if she wasn't just being herself. This isn't a job interview so cut that comparison. When you're being interviewed and one of the people interviewing you is asking about your sex life and another is saying they "didn't know you had ass". How can you even ask for MC to be serious. How could you not love how relaxed she was during the MTV interview with Sway. As long as MC is alive I just wanna appreciate her contributions to music. I don't care about all the stuff that people seem to be stressing out over. It seems she will never be able to satisfy a select type of her "fans". People on here are like, "MC should've brought Tupac from the dead instead of doing the song with Trey Songz." We all know the best are the most unusual. As long as MC isn't changing her face with plastic surgery and covering her kids with blankets, she's alright in my book.

Album title (41,500) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I would like a simple, one word title if possible. Obviously, it's Mariah's artistic freedom to do as she pleases. However, something strong would be good, you know to cement her legacy, like Undisputed.

I agree that Journey may be her idea. I like My Journey or The Journey better than just Journey which just makes me think of the band ha.

Face time matters (41,498) by Me. I am Carly from USA
The reality is that Mariah is doing the interviews because she needs to. She needs to promote the song with her personality that is why she is there that is why they don't play the record, like it or not her persona is a factor. And I love Mariah so I am not going to pretend to enjoy this faux attitude and as it was brilliantly put 24/7 Loreal commercial. Come on Mariah, drop (a lot) of the act and show us you sincerity. I should add many people will and have always hated her but for the undecided and the people that are devoted to her she ought to know better.

Kenny from Canada (41,497) by David from Spain
Mariah isn't the same, Mariah shouldn't do music for teens because she is nearly 44 years old. Her problem is that the beginning of her career was wrong because it's not what she wanted. I don't say that You're Mine is a flop but iTunes and charts say otherwise. Sorry but I'm realistic.

Name the album (41,496) by Me. I am Carly from USA
I think it would be pretty sweet if Mariah let the fans name the album. Not that I would expect her to give up that creativity but still would be pretty cool.

Corrections (41,495) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Some of my emoctions were off. I didn't meant to use this I meant to use and instead of using this I meant to use . Oh I also meant to add in my critique she should lay off on the "splashes" a bit. Carry on.

Critical moment (41,494) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
The notion that MC needs or has to change everything about herself just to sell albums or be more "likeable" to the public annoys the hell out of me. She didn't even use the word "festive" that often for anyone to be annoyed by it , besides it's an actual respectable word. And I agree with clueey23 the word "dahling" doesn't bother me whatsoever. You guys actually think her not using those two words anymore will affect her career in anyway? If so that's petty as hell, and just sounds like a personal issue and not MC's issue. In the words of the late great Whitney Houston, I give a hardy "hell to the no" to the pixie cut and mom jeans recommendations. That won't help her sell albums either, it'll just make her look like Joan Rivers stunt double for no good reason at all. Mariah will always be a glamorous woman with long beautiful hair, you'll just have to deal "darlings". If I had to critique Mariah I would say she should hire a new stylish to take her look to another level, not cut all the gorgeous hair off, but just change the color or style it differently, maybe rock the designer pants and blouse looks from time to time (still keeping it very glamorous and feminine), make great music, give great live performances, and just have a more serious balance to her interviews and she'd be just fine. Beening a fake robotic Stepford wife would only make her a bore. Besides that I say eff the world and do you Mimi. Can we say nothing left to prove?

Performance (41,491) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Ok so now it's almost a week and I think it's about time Mariah starts performing. Go on Fallon, Kimmel, Ellen, heck she should go to neighbor's roof with a loudspeaker and sing it until everyone is hypnotized by the song and shoots it to #1. Also I am excited about the upcoming BET performance. I can't wait to see how she performed in "that dress".

Lee / performances (41,489) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I agree, it's strange that Mariah hasn't started performing the song yet. In her defence, the song has only been out less than a week, so there is time, and she may have some planned. She's doing a lot of radio interviews, which is good. I do think that she should have tried to perform on Kimmel, as opposed to just that skit. Of all the people who were in that skit, she was the one with something new to promote. She really should have maximised that opportunity. When WBT came out, I remember she performed on literally every format available. It was after the performance in a teal/blue dress, on Leno I think, that the song really started to gain some traction. I think Mariah has worked hard thus far, but she needs to up her game and focus on some more maintream promo.

Similarity of You're Mine (41,488) by Eternal from Italy
You're Mine actually sounds a lot like Underneath The Stars and H.A.T.E.U. combined. It's not about the song structure or instruments used, it's the dreamy feeling of these songs. Even the vocals and lyrics are kinda similar. UTS talks about the thrills of first love ("one summer night we ran away for a while, and imagined I was yours and you were mine"), YME talks about memories of love through the seasons ("summer days and summer nights when I felt you in my arms"). Play UTS followed by YME (solo version) and HU preferably with a crossfade and I hope you'll get what I mean.

A reply to clueey23 (41,487) by Andrew from Australia
Did you just say once you stop taking what MC does or say seriously, you will enjoy her again? With all due respect, I don't think that is how you are going to get people to listen or buy your music. I don't think this is how you earn the respect of your peers. Proudly informing the public that you had your lighting director work the room is not down to earth. Please tell me rambling is not a form of communication style that is acceptable in the real world. Would you ramble in a job interview?
(Wednesday 19 February 2014; 13:16)
How about actually performing the music to promote it? (41,486) by Lee from UK
I don't understand why Mariah isn't performing You're Mine on her TV appearances. Talking about a song and acting aloof during interviews is not the type of publicity this song needs. This song needs to be heard (preferably a number of times) in order to be enjoyed. In all honesty, I used to look forward to Mariah being interviewed as she always gave us funny moments like when she would visit Rosie O'Donnell. With the way she has presented herself so far this era, I would rather her just turn up, sing and go home. Remember when it was all about the music as opposed to "Does my hair look good over my shoulder, no sitting on my shoulder, no I'll flip it behind. No good, sitting on the shoulder, over the shoulder, let me flip it again." Just leave your bloody hair alone and sing the damn song. You'd think she was promoting a L'Oreal product as opposed to a song.

Thoughts (41,485) by clueey23 from USA
Has anyone ever watched JD, MC and Stephan Hill in the studio during the recording of "E=MC2"? That is the real MC. When she talks about pink road cases. It's not that MC doesn't know how to act, it's that people take everything so serious. It's just not that serious, the word "dahling" isn't a bad word. It's just a nod to old Hollywood and glamour. And once you stop taking everything she says or does so serious, you'll begin to enjoy MC again. I personally think MC is more down to earth than a lot of other entertainers. I've enjoyed the interviews thus far. And I haven't cringed once or thought twice because she seems more real and honest and down to earth than ever before. It's refreshing. I'd rather have her ramble and me learn and hear something I haven't before, than hear the same cookie cutter questions and answers.
