Alain / #Beautiful (38,754)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
The possibility of #Beautiful bouncing back from #23 on Billboard is virtually impossible. #Beautiful peaked at 69 millions AI, now we have lost half of that. Sales are not looking good either as it faded from #25 to #51 on iTunes in just a few days. We need only 80,000 downloads to reach platinum. If it manages to stay in the iTunes top 60, it might take three or four weeks. To beat the Beatles she needs three more #1's.

Say what? (38,752)

OK, chill people. Stating one's opinion is one thing, but to go on and on about certain points is very draining. If you don't like what is presented to you at this point in her career, take from it the things that you do love or just quit being a fan. For me Mariah is in no way the same as she used to be. But still she does it for me. I'm dissapointed sometimes, yes. But that's life. Her lyrics, her studio work, her beauty and star quality and still very much so that voice are attracting me to her. Her tone, her inflections, her resonance, the choices she makes in her phrasing and ad-libs, and the list goes on, are all just gorgeous. Are all these things always on point? No, but are we always on point in our lives? We also get paid to do our jobs, but are we delivering all the time, or do we have of days? If you see Mariah as a product that lies to you don't buy, simple. The marketing for retail is all based on lies. Do you think wrinkle cream really works? Bull. Everyone is aware of the fact that MC's voice has changed. But we all know that now a days people don't follow an artist for their talent, look at Kim K. And I get so pissed at non singers getting away with lipping because they dance. If you're a dancer, don't make cd's and dance backup. Do you think JLo fans feel cheated when they buy her cd's? No, because they know it's a lie and just enjoy what is there. If a song is nice it's nice period. MC, I love you girl and accept your shortcomings for I have them too.

New album (38,751)
by George Golden from UK

The thing with this era is really down to Mariah herself. Fisrt of all, Beautiful was a smash before the video came out. Then the video appeared and I just felt like she took two steps forward and ten steps back. The video should have about 60 million views by now, but it's just painful to watch. In these days of Vevo, you would have thought they would come up with something better. Mariah is a legend. She should let go of all these cheap and trashy videos. The video really let the song down in my own opinion. If the video was amazing, we would not be needing a hundred more videos of the song. Where are the piano driven ballads, where are the inspirational songs, where are the videos that were simple and free of oversexualisation? Mariah at this point should be looking for number one albums and not looking for number one singles. This era just feels too desperate. Come with an album of great records and it will succeed naturally.

Oh no. #Beautiful is slipping away. You think it will still bounce back into the top 10 at least? I am still hoping for the 19th #1 single and the next to break the Beatles' record.

Just for fun (38,749)

So, I was watching some of my MC videos the other day and thinking about how much I appreciate her sense of humor. It is an aspect of her personality I've always found endearing. I've found her humor is often misunderstood by people as well. This got me to thinking about starting a topic to discuss funny moments over the the years. She's had so many, one that I absolutely love, one that always sticks out to me and never fails to make me laugh is her reaction during an interview when she was jokingly asked if she would rather be a turkey? Or a ham? LMAO. Combined with fits of laughter, Mariah wants to clarify for some reason whether or not she's a cooked ham, or a cooked turkey. Lol It is complete absurd silliness, but it is hilarious to me. Her reactions are priceless, and it is rare to see her that relaxed. If the topic is of no interest, move along. I won't be offended. Just thought it might be fun. Lol.

Thanks guys (38,747)

To all who engaged the conversation, thank you. I appreciate and enjoy your thoughts, posts, opinions and feedback. I had to re-read my own post after the response I've had and it only reassured me as to my stance. You'd think I'd asked for a 3000 word essay from MC on my desk by 9am followed by a Times Square press conference. I didn't. All I actually asked was for her to be real, show us the real her and stop the facade. The word admitted was used once and then taken out of context by fans. The word owe (a particular favourite of the prosecution) wasn't used at all. My post has been deconstructed, sentences dismissed, context ignored and run with to the level that it's become a non related discussion, even after my disclaimer in the last post. I and many others have said it before on this board but at this point, it's really tedious to have to defend yourself against people that can't be bothered to do as much as read your posts properly and thus we lose some great people and potentially great discussions on here. It's a shame. Eitherway, big love and thanks to those considerate enough to engage. Even more love to the detractors. Peace.

Stephen, I hope you won't get cyber-crucified for your pagan statements, for you shall pay with your life for uttering such blasphemy. Maybe if you repent and confess your sins, they might let you live. It's like we are in a dictatorship where if you don't say the right things according to some, you might mysteriously disaappear. Just in case, it was nice meeting you.

All the critics (38,742)
by clueey23 from USA

I've been coming to this message board for years and the atmosphere has changed, and not for the good. I remember when it was fun and you could come here and express positive things about Mariah and her music. Now everyone thinks they know everything because over the past decade the "celebrity" has been diluted. Reality television has ruined it for me. And as much as liked seeing MC on American Idol, it opened her up to that "reality tv" factor. I love her on Facebook and Instagram, but people thinking they know about whatever struggles or anything personal like her voice is just sick to me. Seriously, everyone's voices change, but it's not like MC is singing off key or horrible. She opened up to us about the nodules on her vocal chords back in 2005 on the E. special. Sometimes it would be absolutely the best to lip sync or whatever. Nodules are painful. Just like the GMA performance when she was trying to go into the whistle on #Beautiful and all we got was air. I saw it before they dubbed it over, she is a human being first, a wife, a mother, and a singer-songwriter, producer, and then she is a celebrity. Fall back with your critics, as if you could even come close to anything she has accomplished in the last 25 years. The music and entertainment industry is a very very difficult and dangerous place to be. And when she performed "Looking in", that's all I could think about. You all think you know, but have no idea what it's like. Sit back and enjoy her artistry please.

Fans / PJW (38,741)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I find it ludicrous that some fans come onto this message board and have the cheek to tell other fans that they shouldn't be a fan, just because they express an opinion that doesn't offer Mariah false worship. At the end of the day, we all have the right to say what we want, and as long s it's not offensive to Mariah, then it's all good. As far as I'm concerned, PJW said nothing that was directly offensive towards Mariah or other fans on this board. Do you think the same can be said for the fans that have come on here an insulted him? I think you'll find that the answer is no. Also, for what it's worth, I don't agree with PJW that Mariah should admit that the voice is damaged. RadChad made a very good argument agent against why, and I agree. However, even though I was happy with the most recent performance, especially Looking In, I must admit that it's only because expectations have been set so low in recent months. It seems some fans are happy to applaud mediocrity. PJW isn't, and I rate him for that. We are all fans. We have all invested time and money into Mariah, and should be able to come on here and speak openly, without being told that we should consider whether or not to be a fan. We get to choose to be fans, and we get to choose to express an opinion. Deal with it. We can like Mariah as a recording artist and question her as a performing artist. That is possible, and is our prerogative. Before moaning about nagging fans, perhaps reconsider who's actually nagging.

Mariah's voice (38,738)
by Anonymous from

After hearing her performance of Looking In at the MLB charity event, I believe she still has it. I think she decides to not use it because when she does, she gets labeled a showoff and when she doesn't, critics say it's because she can't. She can't win either way. Imagine what the MLB performance would have been like if she didn't have a cracked rib.

Nagging "fans" (38,737)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
With fans like these who needs enemies? If you don't like Mariah's performances because she does sound the same, then stop being a fan. I am tired of seeing people complain about what how she sings, how she drinks, how she does everything wrong. Simple solution: Stop following her career. Something is wrong with a person if they complain about the same thing constantly. Every singer has good and bad days. She has admitted about her vocal nodules. That's the explanation. Plus Mariah does not owe us anything. In my eyes, she has treated her fans like her own friends. Other celebrities are snobs. It's hard to take care of any voice. I am a teacher and I go hoarse from lecturing. What you guys want your money back? The record did not say: money back guaranteed.

Is it a new single? (38,736)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
According to MC's team, she had dislocated ber shoulder while on the set for the Jeezy remix video. Looking at the fact that #Beautiful is already fading out airplay and saleswise, why have they waited so long to release the damn video? Well, I now think that Mariah was probably not making a video for the remix, but for a new single that might be released on 7/23. As I had stated before, it would be a terrible timing to release anything #Beautiful related at this point, but it would make perfect sense to release a new single. I just hope she has everything ready this time. I am a little bit concerned because record labels don't usually make priority of an artist who's leaving them, so their support and promotion might not be that good when the album comes out.

The voice is what it is. You live with the choices you make. Only MC knows if she has made taking care of her voice a top priority or not. On a lighter note, I have a pretty good audio mp3 of Looking In from the MLB charity concert if any of you are interested. Email me: daydream_mc@yahoo.com.

She owes me one thing (38,733)
by Licia from USA

The only thing that Mariah owes me is a quality music. I would love to know what happened to her voice, but it's her choice if she wants to tell us. I have been a fan since day one and as soon as her voice changed I knew it. Throughout the years I have learned to accept her voice limitations. I wish she wasn't having these issues, but with proper care I know she can still be great.

PJW / Jaker20 (38,730)
by Bill from the UK

Well PJW, you certainly instigated an interesting debate. In my opinion, Mariah does owe something to her fans. We were the ones who supported her, bought her records by the bucket load and helped her realise her dream and have "a house in Capri with her own G4 and a Benz with the doors that lift up from the floor" (Get Your Number). Sure she has natural talent, but a lot of musicians are equally as talented or more so than Mariah and do not have a fanbase as supportive as hers. So yes, she owes us. Just like any successful business owes their customers. Let's not forget she also described herself as a "corporation" (Obsessed). Mariah is paid huge amounts of money to sing. I am paid money to do my job, and I don't copy and paste work I did ten years ago. This is effectively what she does when she mimes. The sad fact is, like Whitney, it is seemingly self inflicted. She drinks and never sleeps and parties. "Purple takes her higher" (It's Like That). But then, Jesus was a cross maker.

I couldn't have said it better. And that's why my last post appreciating the fact that RaChad addressed you without sounding like an angry self-righteous religious fanatic whose idol has been attacked. And even though I don't think she should air her voice problems, it's not like people other than us fans haven't noticed something is off.
