I totally agree with you that this lip synching thing is going to ruin her career. Mariah must be aware of all the accusations about lip synching that turns out to be true. If there wasn't anything wrong with her voice, she would have proven that she still got it, or at least got some voice left. The lip synching at BET Awards is the worst I've seen, she didn't even try to make it look real.

BET 2013 (38,504)
by Musti from UK

Ok that was embarrassing. She mimed the whole thing. She only used to do that on European shows. Everyone knows her voice is not the same as before; it's not supposed to be. But this? I understand if she doesn't want to admit that she can't sing like she used to, the whole world already tears her to pieces as it is. But no, I was just getting used to her half live/half lipped routine, I can't ever get used to 100% lipping. As someone has already said, she's not even good at lipping. She never has been.

What do you expect people to say when an artist, who is primarily known for her voice, gets on stage at a televised awards show and mimes the entire performance? Let me ask another question to you and other fans on this board. If in 1990, Mariah first appeared on TV, and gave her most recent performances of #Beautiful, followed by this completely mimed performance, would you be as big a fan of Mariah's as you are now? I'd like to think that my answer to that question would be yes, but certainly wouldn't hold her in the esteem for which I have done so in the past.

Mariah mustn't still claim to be a vocalist if she can't sing live. Beautiful isn't even that hard to sing. She must be having major vocal problems.

On purpose (38,501)

The playback is a choice. She didn't get caught. Even her whispers and whistle notes are playback. Honestly, I'll be looking forward from now on for good songs. She reads the blogs. She knows. It's a choice she makes. I'm not disappointed because she lipsyncs. I'm disappointed that she and her staff claim the performances are 100% live. That's a big lie. Tell the truth. We can handle it.

You can listen to them for free on YouTube, buying them is an option. The point is it's a little extra while you wait. Your version of "quality" is nothing more than your personal taste in music. Selling well and quality are two different things as are your personal tastes in music and Mariah's direction. Some of us do continue to like Mariah's music, but simply because it may not be your cup of tea doesn't reduce it's quality. One fan's dislike is another fan's anthem.

Mariah's BET intro was nice (38,496)
by Geronimo from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah's intro to #Beautiful at the BET awards tonight was awesome, just the kind of energy and beauty that made me her fan in the first place. I'm glad she put out this quality remix to go with the awesome, top quality, original. As far as recordings of #Beautiful are concerned, Mariah has given us more than what she owes us. Any other recording associated with this single is just a bonus, a throw-in or a freebie. There is nothing else to demand, as if Mariah works for us directly or is just some kind of personal product of which one of us can make demands that suit our personal needs. That would be weird. This is just entertainment. Let's enjoy it.

Well, it looks like Mariah has lipped yet another performance. I realize the BET Awards may not be a huge deal to most of America, but it's still national television. She needs to put more effort and energy into her performances if she wants to be a touring act. She stood in one spot the entire time and the whole thing was lipped. #Beautiful is not that difficult vocally. I love Mariah but at this point, I don't think I would ever pay to see her "live".

BET performance (38,492)
by CDC from CA

Scrolling through Twitter only moments after her BET performance, I quietly asked myself, are the breakdowns worth it anymore? I cannot imagine having to pull out the arsenal of decade-old excuses of "she's saving her voice/what would you expect of a middle aged mother of two/she has nothing to prove" every single time she steps on a stage. Admittedly, watching the Idol and GMA performances upset me a tad bit, but the recent BET performance... nope. I laughed. Her antics now amuse me to bits and pieces lol. What gets me giddy the most is that in all her stillness, stiffness, and flat out not budging a single muscle, she doesn't even bother to make the sound appear as if its coming from her own lips. It's not even "lip'"synching anymore when you casually mumble along to whichever layer of the track that attracts your attention at a given moment. Lol. Advice to Mariah: If you are so insecure about performing live, then don't. Take some time off and practice. At any age, in any situation, practice always makes perfect. You'll have to be out of the spotlight a bit (which I can understand might be frightening for any celebrity) but as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. They'll appreciate you more that way. Barbra Streisand can attest to that.

BET Awards (38,491)
by Licia from USA

Being the big fan I am, I can't lie and say I'm not a little disappointed. I just needed her to sing at least one note. I'm ok with half singing /half lipping. At least some of her woud have been there. She still has a voice even with her limitations. Those snippets of old songs floating around from the AI performance ,GMA, and 4th special prove it. If she needed to lip certain parts, I wouldn't be mad, but she lipped the whole song. Oh well I refuse to dwell on it .On to the next performance. On a positive note, she looked beautiful and the setup was nice. The hip hop remix is definitely better to perform and I'm still excited about the new album.

Trickery and deceit (38,490)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I love her. But more than the lack of promotion, rappers in her songs and her body baring clothes, this lipping is what's going to kill her career. Die hard fans have been crying foul since 99 and the Rainbow era. My Facebook and Twitter lit up from non-fans during the BET Awards about her lip-syncing the same way it did during American Idol. Whatever is going on with the pipes, she needs to record songs she can actually sing live. If the world's best vocalist can't sing, what does she have to fall back on? There's plenty of pretty girls in the music business under 40.

Geronimo and his freebies #Beautiful remixes (38,489)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Geronimo, please let me know where to get the freebies remixes. Last time I checked, if you don't buy them from iTunes, Amazon, etc., you won't get them. Or maybe Mariah sent them for free to you. Let fans whine if they want to. We have the right as consumer to demand a quality product. These remixes you consider freebies will make Mariah richer, so why settle for less in the name of support. Ask Microsoft why Windowa 8 was a flop. Also ask them why they are bringing the Start Button back and many other features they took away to impose on us what they wanted. You know why, because people opened their mouths and complained. We all love Mariah and her music, but we rather wait a few years than having half cooked products and take it in the name of love. And when you get your freebies from Mariah, let us know where to get them. By the way, I'm defnitely getting my two freebies #Hermosa and #Beautiful ft. Miguel and Jeezy, I would gladly pay for them.

Musical sales (38,488)

Clearly MC's trying to push this song as far as it will go. Releasing these remixes to YouTube and itunes as well as performing on BET awards tonight and the 4th of July later this week will definitely help her radio play. It'll be interesting to see if she continues to promote this single next week or she moves on to the next one. Speaking of "rose-colored glasses" and "delusions" there seems to be a great deal of fans looking for AC Mariah as if that sells anymore. Angles Cry, IWTKWLI, Through The Rain are all classic big MC ballads and they went nowhere. What the "hardcore" fanbase likes isn't necessarily what sells. If ballads like that sold Celine Dion would be all the rage. She hasn't had a hit in a decade for a reason. Since no one knows the real reason why MC pushed back this album, nobody's in a position to criticize it. She pushed back Glitter because J.Lo kept stealing her shit. She rushed Memoirs because her label wanted an album. If someone's stealing her stuff, if there's a risk of someone making "leaks", or she simply learned her lesson from rushing her last effort she's doing it for a reason. The albums she's spent the most time on have always done the best. MC, MB, Daydream, Butterfly, and TEOM. I see this as a good thing. Quality music is big any time of the year, if she has to resort to "timing" to get a hit, than it's not that great.

What's with all the neurotic whining? (38,487)
by Geronimo from USA
| |
|
|
The latest remix is just what most of us expect from Mariah. It's well-produced and fun. How funny is it that within just three days of free, thrown in there just for the fun of it remixes, some whiny fans start prophesying the end of Mariah's career, crying about getting tired of defending her (which is silly because she's a beautiful, wealthy, world famous entertainer with a happy family life who does not even know who you are) and going on about how she doesn't care about music. There is an emotional and entitled posting pattern here that just doesn't make sense. This is a fan site where everything can certainly be discussed but where perhaps not everyone posting knows how to avoid passing on sheer anxiety out of boredom. This latest remix is proof that Mariah knows what quality is and what is just a little something to throw out there while the fans wait a few days. That's really cool of her. What is not cool is whining about freebies and insulting her intelligence on her fan-site because she made the mistake of sharing a few trinkets.

Great post TJ. Too much doom and gloom on this board. SMH. Like how many 43 years old singers who have been in the game for 20 plus years currently have a top twenty single and a top 5 R&B hit? Sure Beautiful has the potiential to do better with more promotion, but dammit, that's not a guarantee. I love the remix with Jeezy.

Not live (38,482)

Just by looking at the pics of the Macy's 4th of July, I can tell it's lipsync. I feel like she doesn't perform anymore. She is only available on stage. BET performance will be the same. The new rnb/hip hop version of Beautiful is impossible to sing live. Basically she is not breathing between lines. Of course I love her. But come on man. Still testing waters with hip hop? Still?

Remixes and versions of #Beautiful (38,481)
by Lainsky from Philippines

All I can say is they are not as bad as the press have described it, but in my opinion, MC have not change her style in doing remixes of her singles. For me most of them sounds good and will help the original to become more popular, but not all. Perhaps I am not really a huge fan of dance remixes. I'm still hoping that this album will be greater than E=MC2 if not TEOM.

This is what we want. Even though I like Asap Rocky (btw he's not an unknown rapper as some of you want to say, he may be new to you, but he's not unknown), I wasn't feeling that first one. The Spanglish one is growing on me. I don't do dance mixes, so I didn't even listen to that one. This is the one. I'm glad she resang the song for the hip hop mix.
