Haha, I meant two middle fingers, followed by a diva strut and a deuce sign. Boom. AI is now officially history. Thank f@#k. Re the tour, I can't wait. If she doesn't come to the UK, I'll hit you up on the LA leg of the tour. We can have a lamb party lol.

World tour and two fingers to AI (38,093)

Yes Mariah. I'm so excited with this news. I'd like Mariah to come to the UK, but I'm not too fussed if she doesn't, as I'll go to the US to see her anyway lol. Great news re AI. Mariah's publicist showed them major disrespect in the way it was announced. She the twitter post. Whilst she wasn't rude or crass, it wasn't overly positive lol.

New album and #Beautiful (38,091)
by Badr from USA
| |
|
|
I wonder why there is still no news about her new album. Wasn't it supposed to be released in July? It's basically June, and we still don't have major information, title, cover, etc. I haven't seen her so focused on one project since The Emancipation of Mimi. I hope the new album meets our high expectations, just like #Beautiful did. In regards to the single, someone here suggested she should be calling radio stations to promote it. I think that's a good idea. The promotion is starting to slow down, and the song can easily become a top 10 hit; releasing an alternative version of #Beautiful was such a good idea. I personally enjoy both versions. I'd like to hear a solo version so she can perform it more often. It's been a while since I've heard a Mariah Carey song on the radio, and listening to #Beautiful in my local radio station is both refreshing and exciting.

George / movie Grease (38,090)
by Edward from USA

It is as if you were reading my mind about the Grease comment. It would've suited the song perfectly. I don't mind her being sexy as long as she is creative, like the Honey or Touch My Body videos. She is definitely being redundant with the same type of look-at-me-I'm-so-sexy videos without a storyline. Now that video sales and streaming count towards the BB Hot 100, it is important to have decent videos out there. For a moment I thought music videos would eventually disappear, but things have changed. All the videos from TEOM were great or at least decent. The Butterfly video was a masterpiece to me. But as I said, #Beautiful was a last minute effort to me, so they probably didn't have much time for anything with more substance.

Lyric re MC videos (38,089)
by jaker20 from US

I completely agree with you. I have absolutely no problem with MC being sexy. She is a sexy and sensual person. My problem is that sensuality is sometimes being used to cover lack of creativity. WBT and ILT are much sexier and she actually bared more skin there, but they're also conceptual and artistic. I wish they had kept the sexiness of #Beautiful video, but with a story that is engaging.

I agree with you. I think Mariah feels that being overtly sexy helps her hold onto her youth. Her videos have become quite redundant, it's clear to me that she lacks a real creative team. Unfortunately, if an artist of today wants to sell massive amounts of records, they have to be visual. That's why someone like Nicki Minaj has so many teenybopper fans. I don't want Mariah to ever change who she is, but she needs to become more creative visually before people get bored.

I just have to say Mariah should try and tone down the sexy image. It is getting tired at this point. When I first listened to the single, I thougth it was one of her best lead sinlges to date, but the video tottally let the song down. I mean, it's just plain tacky with all the moves she does. Something like a spoof of the movie Grease would have sold this song. The John Travolter/Olivia Newton duet "You are the one that I want" would have been amazing. Just saying. Mariah should really try and elevate her videos and be more creative with the storylines. Being sexy is not always about being provocative. All her videos after "Touch my body" have been a let down. She still has it, but she is alienating people with these type of videos.

Recap (38,085)
by Haiji Toro from USA
| |
|
|
Ok, well I have to say I'm in love with #Beautiful whether it's long or short. Genius. I don't care if she only sings half the song, as long as I can get a verse out of her, yea it would be great to hear a whole song with just her, but it would be pointless. The song is made for two artists and both men and women can relate. If you remember, Endless Love and One Sweet Day both started with the male singer(s) singing the first verse. I also don't really care if she was lip singing her latest performances. She's Mariah Carey, she can do whatever she wants with her performances. She has nothing to prove to anyone. You can't really expect someone who has been singing live for nearly 25 years to have the same voice, but she still can hit those notes that we love. Give her a damn break. I think the only reason #Beautiful isn't getting a lot of promotion, is because it's one of those singles that might or might not be considered a buzz single until sales show for it, which is doing great so far. And one last thing. How perfect would it be if she covered "Anniversary" by Toni Tony Toné. Have you heard the vocals in that song? She would slay that.

#Beautiful explicit video (38,083)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
To me the #Beautiful explicit video is a clever marketing strategy to get more streams and create further hype for the single. Mariah seems to be doing something like this each week (last week it was the #Beautiful single being released on iTunes), a more subtle form of promotion compared to what we are used to. I'm not sure that this compensates for TV and radio promo, but at the same time, it's a clever way of utilising modern ways of listening to music. Regarding the video, I prefer the original. There's more to it for me. In this video Mariah reminds me of Marilyn Monroe when she's dancing in the Prince and the Showgirl, which is quite amusing.

Edward / more basic promotion (38,082)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Yes, some interviews on radio wouldn't go amiss either. However, I suspect Mariah is trying to be more selective with her promotional choices. I think she's going for high profile appearances, with mass audiences in mind. Whilst this strategy is a good one, I would like to see her do just a bit more. Nevertheless, if I had two kids, a husband, just finished a grueling stint on AI, and had previously suffered a breakdown, then I'd probably be more selective too. Sometimes it's more about quality than quantity, although as a fan, I'd like just a little bit more. She should do Ellen, and one of the late night talk shows. That would make me happy lol.

I'm totally with you and I have no problem at all with respectful honesty and/or venting at all. I defend MC a lot, but I'm also respectfully critical of her choices as well. Case and point I was one of a few people that expressed distaste for the #Beautiful video on here and also I can get very candid about her voice/vocal performances (as you probably already noticed). I just don't want it to be misconstrued that my defending Mariah is because of not accepting/respecting differences in opinions, because that's something I don't believe in doing, attacking people's honest opinion (on a song, video, vocal performance, outfit ,whatever). Again thanks for your post. Peace.

The new version of#Beautiful (38,076)
by Geronimo from USA
| |
|

I like this version so much better than the first. This one skips those awkward motorcycle shots where she looked less than confident. Without those shots the video has a sense of humor that makes the sex play over-the-top cute rather than desperate and sad. I guess there is something to be said for restraint and focus.

Allow me to clarify that I have no qualms with the way Eric runs this website. I'm truly grateful that we aren't subjected to trolls that would post blatantly offensive messages. Also I want to make it clear that my addressing negative messages was in no way implying that Eric should do anything differently from what he already does, because I agree that he does a fair/great job. When I say people have posted disrespectful or borderline disrespectful message, I wasn't referring to anyone calling MC a profane word or stating that they hate her. I was more so referring to instances where certain individuals were seemly dragging her through the mud, discrediting her legacy, harshly criticizing her, and someone even went as far as to insult dem babies which I find disparaging and disrespectful (and again it's just my humble opinion). This notion doesn't reflect on Eric in anyway, because I agree that (within certain guidelines) everyone should be able to post there honest opinion and vent their frustrations. I wouldn't want my post to be overtly censored either. I just think it's up to those individuals not to cross that line into questionable territory (and not the administrator to censor anything slightly negative about Mariah). Also I respect your opinion on wanting to hear the good and bad perspectives on Mariah. I believe that's fair and we all should be honest. However I don't fault the individuals that come here and expect a certain level of regards to MC, or that would even come here for a positive refuge, because truthfully MC get enough hate and harsh criticism in the world. So having a safe haven where you can have an MC "love fest" is understandable. At the end of it all I agree that as long as everyone one is coming from a good respectful place with there comments (good or bad) it's not all love, but if you're coming for a questionable place then people have a right to respond accordingly just as that person had a right to post it. Best regards.

Thanks for your post. My intent wasn't to necessarily get involved in your posts with Stephen, but call attention to the fact you and him could have a discussion without all the drama. Too many times here some fans take a disagreement as a personal attack toward Mariah and themselves. Know what I mean? I've stated my opinions quite openly, but always with great respect to Mariah and others. And yet, I've been called every name in the book, lol (here and elsewhere). I agree with Edward in that Eric does not post messages that are absurd. Trust me, he's sent me a few messages folks have written about me that were plain nasty that were never posted here. I think that's why Stephen maybe got blunt in your eyes. Sometimes we grow so tired of not being able to respectfully express our views. Correct me if I'm wrong, Stephen.) It was nice to see two people get passed the cultural divide (so to speak), and see the points each other was trying to make. Like you, I always enjoy reading other's opinions and learning from them. BTW: If someone does come here and trash MC, I'll be right behind you calling them out. But, if someone says they don't like a video for credible reasons like I did, they should have the right to say such without all the childish drama. Know what I mean? Anyway, time to move forward for me. Peace.

Stephen / more basic promotion (38,072)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I agree with you that there should be more promotion for #Beautiful. I don't even know if Mariah is doing phone interviews on radio, especially those stations that reach a broader audience. As I stated #Beautiful is fighting to stay alive, but a little push here and there would be great to keep it afloat, even if it's only talking about it. If the Macy's performance is the closest promotion we have lineup, it could be detrimental to the success of #Beautiful. It definitely deserves to be a top 10 hit. Sales have gone down, but airplay has increased, so let's see what happens.

GMA / Fourth of July (38,071)
by Gloria from Hong Kong

I absolutely agree with you, Terna. WBT in GMA is my favourite part. Her interpretation left me speechless. I couldn't say it was flawless but for me I have already listed this as one of the most stunning performances in recent years. I am so proud of being a lamb. And Fourth of July? The only thing depresses me is that we have to wait a long time to see Mariah on stage again. Am I being too impatient? At least everyone knows she is currently busy with the new album.

enwar00 - Fourth of July (38,070)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
You're right, it would be quite fitting if Mariah sang Fourth of July at the Fireworks Spectacular. However, it's not the kind of song that will translate well into a live performance. It is definitely a creation for the studio only. If Mariah was to perform it live, it would be heavily layered with her own vocal harmonies and she will once again be accused of lip syncing. In addition, the song is very very breathy which again, doesn't translate well to a huge audience who know her for her powerful vocal gymnastics. I imagine whatever she performs, it will be a pre recorded effort again; just like when she performed the National Anthem for the Superbowl.

I think there may still be a chance that they recorded a longer version, as if Mariah added a verse to an incomplete song, it is possible that they wrote a bridge together and that they cut it out for radio. #Beautiful is doing well. It has around 61 million audience impressions at the time of writing. However, momentum is starting to slow a little. I do think Mariah needs to get on TV and perform it more or at least do some interviews with it. Also, Miguel is a very good singer/songwriter. I've followed his music for quite a while now, and even wrote on this messageboard in 2011, stating that I'd like Mariah to work with him. I think it would be good if they wrote more songs together for her album. I also like that he gave Mariah credit for bringing that song to life. I also think that Mariah should actually prepare a second single and get a video shot for it too. For albums to sell in the current climate, the public need to trust the material and Mariah probably needs one more single to convince non lambs to buy the album. Although, I think it's too soon to release a second single just yet, it would make sense to get one prepared and release it a couple of weeks before the album drops. However, if you, Mariah and/or her team think otherwise, then who am I to disagree to the contrary lol.
