Great song, already a great success (37,751)
by Philip from Ireland

I just love this new Mariah song. I'm genuinely more excited about this song than any other song after WBT. As of the time I am writing this, it's sitting at no 37 on UK iTunes chart, it peaked earlier at 32. I hope it goes higher, obviously but the fact it's got this high already with no real promotion over here is incredible. It's also worth noting that Miguel is not as successful in the UK as he is in the US, this coupled with the fact that the UK hasn't heard much of Mariah recently, makes it even more of an achievement.

I can't stop playing the song. This reminds me of how I felt through all the 90's. I just couldn't stop listening to the latest release. I love it. Well done Mariah.

Lambs and musicianship (37,747)

It is too bad that more of Mariah fans that post here are not dedicated musicians. The other day I was wondering to myself why there is so much complaining on this board about things barely related to the appreciation of Mariah's music: her breasts, her clothes, the meandering speaking style, the perceived incompetence of her marketing team, Mariah's own promotional schedule, and this or that person's fatigue with defending Mariah. With all due respect to freedom of speech (however abstract in the case of comments on this board), I would like to say that those concerns get to be bizarre, ridiculous and Stan-like as they can often dominate the mood in this forum. Mariah is probably about to earn her 19th no. 1 single and that is great. But, reading this forum might lead an alien from outer space to think that many posters here are actually shareholders in a corporation that fear that Mariah's career is about to be over before it starts because she put out some songs to which the "public" was indifferent. The woman is a legend in the prime of her life, not an ingenue trying to prove herself. All of this is to say that if more people who posted here were serious musicians, there would be more intelligent conversations about Mariah's music from the perspective of people who actually play and sing intelligently. For example, anyone ever attempt a jazz rendition of "The Roof" with just stand-up bass and vocals? Or "Stay the Night" in a raga or Sufi style?

Nicki says Mariah is insecure and bitter, yet she's the one posing it up with Tommy Mottola and J.Lo, trying to make a point. It seems as though Mariah's comment re not having a #1 really got to her. Who's the one coming off as insecure and bitter now? I so want #Beautiful to get to #1 just to prove a point.

#Beautiful (37,745)

Very infectious and memorable song. The beat, vocals and harmonies are on point. I love it. I also get where that reviewer who cited Dreamlover was coming from. It sounds retro and kinda like the Stax recordings of the '70's production wise. I think Mariah's got a hit on her hands. I listened to it only once, went through the day to see if I could recall its hook with just one listen, lets just say I hummed the song all day. Lol. I think the hashtag's cool and kinda also innovative in terms of using Twitter to promote it. That made the song trend worldwide in just a few hours. Somone here referred to the duo as "Mimiguel". Lol. That made me crack up.

I have posted a link of VEVO video of #Beautiful on my previous message entitled "To USA lambs, please help with the YouTube streaming" by using the page called Yourepeat. The video link will loop the song non-stoply. But I wonder why the link on my previous message disappeared? It is because without that link, my whole message makes no sense at all. Webmaster: I have not included the link in your message, because we want Mariah to do good on the charts because it is a good song, so many people download the song or watch the video, not because someone found a trick to repeat the video all day and generate many views without watching the video.

I thought the hashtag was genius (37,743)

It's meant for Miguel's censored line. When it's sung (or even when it's spoken), it really amplifies the expression of how beautiful someone is. It's a huge difference from just saying someone is "beautiful". So in this case it actually meant something.

To USA lambs, please help with the YouTube streaming (37,742)
by Leon from Malaysia

Billboard Hot 100 singles chart has a brand new formula two months ago, which includes digital sales plus radio airplay plus on-demand streaming (spotify, etc) plus YouTube VEVO streaming. Please keep streaming the video of #Beautiful (audio only). This video will play the video repeatedly by itself. Note: If you drag the slider (below the video) from 3:22 to 0:05 seconds, so that, it will repeat the video everytime after 5 seconds. This is to increase viewcount in a short time. When the official video is out, please do the same thing for both videos everyday. If we can have 10 millions views in USA for the next 7 days, #Beautiful will have a good chance to debut at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Thank you very much.

#Beautiful is heading to a hot shot debut at No.1 (37,741)
by Andrew Lo from Philippines

This is over the top. But chart experts say that with the direction the song is getting, the buzz and the following days will see Mariah's 19th. No. 1 as the song will possibly debut at No.1 as the song has had the same first-day radio performance of "Born This Way" of Lady Gaga. Some say that the song may have almost enough 50 million or more radio impressions by the end of the tracking week and it is already a sure thing that it will debut on the Top 20 on May 14. Watch out, watch out, watch out. It will be there, Top 20. Crossed fingers that the downloads will go crazy as soon as the video is released tomorrow. God allows, Mariah will have her 19th No.1.

#Beautiful is almost perfect to me (37,739)
by Edward from USA

This is what I've been expecting from Mariah, a modern tune with a retro vibe. Miguel's voice, unlike John Legend's, compliments Mariah's and there's a natural fluidity that is almost seamless. I'm praying for a longer version of this song, because when you think the song's going to develop, it's when actually ends . The fact that the iTunes version is actually 3:23 tells me that maybe that's about as much as we're going to get in terms of length. It's the same thing that happened with I Wanna Know What Love Is, I always felt it was too short, and there were rumors of a longer version, but it never happened. I'm very happy though with the effort, I could see it being a hit given the right airplay and support.

I was curious what your thoughts were going to be. I've been listening to #Beautiful most of the day. I just love it. Infectious is a good word. It's just such a summer "feel good in the sunlight" kind of song which makes me feel happy. Honey is a good comparison, because when she did that track IMO it was unlike anything she'd really done previously and I think #Beautiful is kind of similar with the guitar riff, the texture and that strong, confident buttery tone of her vocals. I understand what you are saying about more Mariah and a bridge. I still wish it was longer, not because of length or because I don't love the song, just because I wish there was more of it. Like I wish it would keep going past 3:23, know what I mean? Lol. But I'm just so pleased with the beat, the feeling of it, the quality of the song and the freshness of that I feel even more excited about the potential material on the new album.

When I say too short, Im not really talking about time. Back in the day many songs were only 2 min and 30 seconds long, but the song felt full and complete. This didn't. It didn't go anywhere musically, lyrically or anything. It starts off as if its going to take you up for a great ride, but it never took off. None of the lyrics stick. I can't remember one line in that song. There isn't even a vocal part that really sticks out, except that part where after Mariah comes in. This song is exactly what I'd thought it was going to be. Last minute and I can feel it. Was Mariah originally going to get with Miguel until a few weeks ago? It just sounds like they said, hey lets put a song together real quick to get buzz before American Idol ends. Like I said, the song is not bad, it's just rushed.

#Beautiful / Idol (37,736)
by Stacey from USA

Honestly, the hashtag doesn't bother me if I get to hear that amazing voice, haha. The beat is infectious. I couldn't help but start to tap my foot. Two complaints and they are small is I wish there was more Mariah. I wish there was more play between MC and Miguel during each verse instead of one singer each verse. I wish there was some kind of breakdown (ala Honey) before the final chorus, you know some sort of bridge. But, if this song is any indication of what the rest of the album will be like, I'll be quite content. That voice sounds amazing. Idol producers have screwed Mariah all season long. She'd better act fast and quit before producers throw her under the bus for Idol's low ratings.

I hate the hashtag, tremendously. However the song is so catchy, melodic, fresh and well-sung, I'll simply overlook the symbol. The song is pop genius in my opinion, and her best single since "We Belong Together". I hope she finds a radio audience for this song.

Is immaculate. I love the whole summer vibe it's got going on. It's special. The song is addictive and I think the short play time leaves me wanting more which warrants a repeat. The only problem I have is that upon release of an incredible song by my idol, my other half and I are sitting precariously on the rocks. I wish nothing more than this to be our song but at the moment it hurts to listen to because of the irony. I hope I eventually have happy menories of such a brilliant song.

Rumor (37,732)

There's word going around that one of MC's tracks from her new album feature Angie, Kree, and Candice as background vocalists. Very interesting. I heard the end 30 seconds of Beautiful on radio this morning. I listened to it when I got home and simply felt confused and this is definitely different, so kudos for Mariah for that. So, I listened to it again. I like it and realize this isn't aggressive, or overly catchy, it's just a feel-good vibe. Which means this is the kind of song that doesn't get annoying. That bodes well for spins. It's played 9 times where I am today.

At first, I couldn't get my head round the beat. But now, I'm obsessed with this song. I thought it was a nice balance between the two: 1 verse each and the chorus. People who say that it was too short, it's actually the same length as WBT (give or take a second), although it doesn't have the belting at the end. The only reason why it seems short is because Miguel is on the track, and to be honest, I love his part on the song. This song was made to be a duet, not a solo song. And it works beautifully. It's just an easy song to listen to, despite it having a very simple concept lyrically, and the melody just raises it to another level and is so catchy. It ends where it needs to end, and leaves you just wanting to hit the replay button. And considering how well it is doing on the iTunes charts, plus the positive critical reviews, it seems to be a very good step in the right direction.

Beautiful is a nice song. I only listened once and got a pretty good vibe. I can't wait to really let it sink in. I do wish that MC was more of the focus of the song. I had a good feeling that Miguel would inject just the right kind of energy for today in the song-writing and that seems to have happened. Just give me more Mariah on the vocals, that's what I'm here for.

Well, I completely fell in love with Beautiful on first listen. So fresh and unlike anything she has done before. This is a real treat for us fans and I'm so pleased she has a relatively big platform (AI) to launch it. Whether it succeeds in the charts is immaterial to me. Mariah has come out with a fantastic lead track and I hope the rest of the album follows suit. Completely taken by surprise.

I don't get it. For me, the song is nothing special at all. I love Miguel's voice, but Mariah's once again barely in her own song. And it's just too short. Lke someone else said, the song doesn't even go anywhere right when you think it's about to. Sigh. But if this will get radio to warm up to her music again, then that's fine with me. I remember how happy I was to always be hearing "I Know What You Want" in the summer of 2003, since all her Charmbracelet era singles flopped. Although I actually liked IKWYW lol. I may not like Beautiful, but I am happy that everyone else seems to love it. Go figure.

I thought the song was ok. I like it, but I have no desire to play it over again for entertainment. I have no desire to buy it either. But I'm glad that everyone else does. Why? Well to me, the song starts off great, and then Mariah comes in sounding great and by the time you think the song is about to go somewhere, it doesn't. It just ends. It's over. Where was the bridge? No outro? The song felt like a reprise. Like as if Mariah has her full version of it of just her, then it follows up into this second track. Like how she did with Impossible and Up Out Of My Face. It was two parts. Beautiful felt like part two. There was no climax in this song. It just ended. I also hated the slight use of auto tune within the song. Mariah does not need it, so why use it? It's very faint, but it's there.

#Beautiful (37,725)
by Niko from America

Today is the day that the Lord hath made and that lambs worldwide have been waiting for with the release of Mariah Carey's brand new single with Miguel, "#Beautiful". The track was teased a few weeks ago with a barely there snippet that did the final product no justice whatsoever upon hearing it now. "#Beautiful" opens with a guitar riff and a few tambourine shakes before Mimi and Miguel do a little harmonizing, singing "Uh, uh, you're beautiful." Surprisingly, the first verse goes to Miguel who invites her to hop on the back of his bike and let the wind whip through her hair while they ride. He may have taken the lead, but the second half of the song belongs to Mariah, whose voice shines like patent leather shoes on Easter Sunday when we finally get to hear it in full. Mimi sounds pretty awesome, flexing her vocal range as easily as she breathes. I love Mariah's devil-may-care laugh track that's woven into the song at various intervals, and their voices blend so well together. This Mimiguel duet is quite fetching and catchy to boot. And I'm already picturing a 1950's style, James Dean Rebel Without a Cause music video with lots of leather, bikers and babes to match the song's throwback nature. With the incredible response that "#Beautiful" is receiving and already becoming a worldwide trending topic (now that hashtag in the title makes perfect sense), I suspect that Mariah may just have another number one single on her hands. Take that, Nicki Minaj.
