A duet is coming, whether you like it or not (37,619)
by Will from England
| |
|

And I'm so excited by it. I don't care if it's a duet or a feature or whatever: it's a new Mariah song, and that just makes me jump for joy at the thought of hearing new material, especially with the way her voice has sounded recently (if Almost Home was any indication vocally). Also, her appearance on GMA makes me very happy. When she was on for TEOM and E=MC2, she got her highest sales. Not so much with the Today Show (CB and MOAIA). So I've got every finger crossed in the hopes that this trend continues on (high sales that is). She in the public's eye, people are talking about her, she's got the exposure she needs, with the added bonus of being able to change some people's opinion of her. People have been reminded of why she is Mariah Carey, and I think she's got the ball in her court now. All she needs now is a great lead single that takes off, a strong album, vocally strong performances, proper promo and she should be good for this album.

Yes, I enjoy this song. I actually prefer So Lonely Part 2. That one rocks. Again bad single choices. I'm a fan of those songs, so you aren't the only one.

Am I the only one that thinks this song should've been a single? Or am I the only one that love the song?

So it looks increasingly more likely that her lead single will be a duet. Totally ok with that as long as it is good. I hope it's a hit, as a Mariah fan, I'm just not used too her songs tanking. I still can't believe Almost Home tanked. What happened? Anyway, I predict her to preform her new single on AI final May 16th and then GMA on May 24th. That's only a few weeks away. I hope the album is only a week after the single. Good times lambs, new music and new era is nealy upon us.

No "duet" or "featuring" please (37,613)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

All I want is just a song that is catchy on the chorus, full or medium voice (ala "We belong together" for ballad and ala "Your girl" for uptempo). That would be the main formula for a sure hit song.

Duet or no duet (37,612)
by Licia from USA

I could care less. I'm just happy to be getting new music. I'm no expert so I can't go on this rant about what will or will not work. If it's a good song, then it shouldn't matter if it's a duet or not. I don't care about the charts and all that. I just want good music. Rap, rnb, pop, duet, solo, whatever. Just bring the good music.

Facts and opinions (37,611)
by RibbonB from USA

Antone, no one for or against a duet called it a fact. People are stating opinions, hopes or preferences. It's always up to Mariah. Anywho, I stated my reasons why very clearly. I hope whatever she releases is a great song, but I would prefer if it's just her singing it. Lol. I love that MC does what she wants and let's the chips fall where they may.

Agree with everyone (no duets please) (37,610)
by John from USA

|

I agree. If Mariah is looking to have another comeback (or even a radio hit single), it has to be about her voice. If Adele has taught us anything (even though I'm not a fan of hers), it's that you don't need rappers, auto-tune, and club beats to have a hit single. If Mariah is able to deliver with an undeniably catchy song, with no whispering and a great chorus, she will be good to go. I would love an upbeat, poppy song like "Someday" (my all time favorite) or "Fantasy" (original version, the better one in my opinion), but I'm not holding my breath. I'm praying to God the first single is good and that it receives at least some promotion. After the garbage that was the original version of "Triumphant" and "Almost Home" (which is a gem) receiving no promotion, I am so ready to hear my Mariah on the radio again. I am so ready to actually be excited about an era (which I have not been since E=MC2). Please Mariah, deliver on this album, I know you can do it. Like you said during TEOM era, "You can't count talent out!"

No duets (37,609)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with everyone who's saying no duets. It needs to be all about that voice this time. I remember TEOM. The whole era was entitled "the return of the voice". And then she delivered an album packed with songs showcasing that voice. The lead single It's Like That had Fatman Scoop as a guest, but his part wasn't until the end of the song and fit in well there. Then she wowed us with WBT and the comeback was complete. That's what needs to happen this time. If she wants to duet, do it on a remix. That formula has been successful in the past too.

Rumored single (37,608)
by Antone from Us

You know what I can't stand, is when people get on here and start stating opinions as facts. Did she say it was a duet? Even if it is, she is a grown woman and she can do as she sees fit. We don't know the name of the song or anything else for that matter. At least wait until the song comes out before you start with the negativity, which at this point I am so over.

A duet with whomever (Miguel, Maxwell)? I hope not (37,606)
by Edward from USA

RibbonB, I couldn't agree with you more. Some of Mariah's last duets include When Christmas Comes, Angels Cry, Up Out My Face and My Love, but none of them even cracked the Hot 100. While Right To Dream and Help Me Make It Through the Night weren't successful, they were praised a lot. They are already saying Mariah is piggybacking on Miguel's success, which makes her look desperate. I know Mariah needs a hit, but I don't personally see that happening with a duet. I hope I'm wrong and that I could eat my words. We need the voice again.

I agree, I'm not too thrilled about her lead single being a duet. Miguel is a pretty cool artist, but I'm not sure if I even like the idea of him on the same track with MC (I guess an album track would be fine or second single). Also how would she promote/perform the song affectively without him (I'm sure Miguel won't show up to all her performances and via video would be annoying/awkward IMO). I can go on and on. Now if he just produced the song for her then that'll be better. I just hope it doesn't turn into a train wreck or come across as desperate to be current. Because you know that she's not the "desperate type" (I had too ). All I need is organically great music and vocals and I'll be satisfied, but at the end of it all I just hope she makes the right move and release the right material.

Why duets are a bad idea now (37,603)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
I love MC and I really like Miguel, but an MC duet with anyone is a bad idea, especially as a lead single. Mariah hasn't had a strong solo single since Touch My Body and I believe that is where her strength will lie. She has had recent duets or collabs with a lot of newer artists and if anyone is helped by those releases, it's the other artist. I will go back as far as Memoirs and the infamous non release of Angel's Advocate duets/remixes. They tried it with Up Out My Face ft. clown Nicki, then the leak of Inseperable with Trey Songz. Up Out, barely made waves and only for the video. Then she was preggo and didn't get to promote When Christmas Comes first time around, but she did release a duet version the next year with John Legend, another bleep on the radar. She really tried it re-releasing AIWFC with Beiber, yet another bleep. I have no idea why she even recorded with Uncle Murda or even Rick Ross and Meek Mill. If she hadn't made all of those faux pas, I might welcome a duet with Miguel or Maxwell, but I detect another wrong move if a duet is in the works right now. The voice is needed right now in a big way, not with what I will call, distractions. When was the last time a duet was really successful? They are rare these days. Mariah needs an infustion of great songwriting, new energy indeed, but no duets.

New era of RnB with Miguel (37,600)

If it is true, Mariah has made a very smart decision to record a duet with Miguel. He's fresh and a incredible songwriter and singer. I can't wait to hear America's reaction to their creation. Lambs, are you ready for Mimi's best album since EMOM?

New era (37,597)
by Zachary from Croatia

I am not driven to see Mariah ruling the music world again and I really do not care about charts and numbers, because this is a whole different world. She ruled back in the nineties or middle two thousands, when albums were really bought by fans, and now you have all kinds of sources to get music. I just want music and words that I could relate to again, like back on the Butterfly album or The Emancipation Of Mimi. Almost Home is a great song, but it was made for a movie and I didn't see much promotion for it. We just have to wait and see, maybe she will strike the world again like in 2005 or it will be just an album with again wrongly chosen singles like on E=MC2. She can say what she wants, but I will never regret not putting Migrate as a lead single with a really high budget video.

New single/album, please promote (37,596)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
I am ridiculously excited and nervous at the same time. I know that we shouldn't care how she does on the charts. Even though both "Triumphant (Pulse Remix)" and "Almost Home" flopped, I loved them both. I listen to "Almost Home" every day, it's the first single since "It's Like That" that I liked the first time I heard it (didn't have to grow on me like "Touch My Body"). I don't want Mariah to go the way of Janet, and have her music go completely unnoticed. Mariah's God-given talent deserves recognition, and she's so much better than the wannabes out today (Rihanna, Katy, Kesha, etc). Even if her album is like E=MC2 or MOAIA and only has one solid hit single, I will be happy. I think (hope) that Mariah knows she needs a solid radio hit single. I hope she's willing to at least put in some work to properly promote it. I'm hoping this era at least lives up to the (albeit short lived) E=MC2 era. Please Mariah, just give us one more epic era, then you can retire haha. You are not that old, you can do it.

I can't wait to hear the new single. Mariah knows she needs a hit and it's foolish to doubt her talent always rises to the top. I hope she makes another album similar to E=MC2 or TEOM with strong ballads. By the way, I love Side Effects.

Hi, I started googling Mariah gifs when E! Online began the Mariah vs Nicki "Who is the most gifable" competition. I don't think they continued it past the first 3 or 4 audition episodes though. They are funny. My personal favourite is the "I rebuke it" gif and the "cool bean salad" one. Oh and the one where she is walking though the door in sunglasses and flips her hair in a very diva-like way.
