New era (37,597)
by Zachary from Croatia
| |
|
|
I am not driven to see Mariah ruling the music world again and I really do not care about charts and numbers, because this is a whole different world. She ruled back in the nineties or middle two thousands, when albums were really bought by fans, and now you have all kinds of sources to get music. I just want music and words that I could relate to again, like back on the Butterfly album or The Emancipation Of Mimi. Almost Home is a great song, but it was made for a movie and I didn't see much promotion for it. We just have to wait and see, maybe she will strike the world again like in 2005 or it will be just an album with again wrongly chosen singles like on E=MC2. She can say what she wants, but I will never regret not putting Migrate as a lead single with a really high budget video.

New single/album, please promote (37,596)
by John from USA

I am ridiculously excited and nervous at the same time. I know that we shouldn't care how she does on the charts. Even though both "Triumphant (Pulse Remix)" and "Almost Home" flopped, I loved them both. I listen to "Almost Home" every day, it's the first single since "It's Like That" that I liked the first time I heard it (didn't have to grow on me like "Touch My Body"). I don't want Mariah to go the way of Janet, and have her music go completely unnoticed. Mariah's God-given talent deserves recognition, and she's so much better than the wannabes out today (Rihanna, Katy, Kesha, etc). Even if her album is like E=MC2 or MOAIA and only has one solid hit single, I will be happy. I think (hope) that Mariah knows she needs a solid radio hit single. I hope she's willing to at least put in some work to properly promote it. I'm hoping this era at least lives up to the (albeit short lived) E=MC2 era. Please Mariah, just give us one more epic era, then you can retire haha. You are not that old, you can do it.

I can't wait to hear the new single. Mariah knows she needs a hit and it's foolish to doubt her talent always rises to the top. I hope she makes another album similar to E=MC2 or TEOM with strong ballads. By the way, I love Side Effects.

Hi, I started googling Mariah gifs when E! Online began the Mariah vs Nicki "Who is the most gifable" competition. I don't think they continued it past the first 3 or 4 audition episodes though. They are funny. My personal favourite is the "I rebuke it" gif and the "cool bean salad" one. Oh and the one where she is walking though the door in sunglasses and flips her hair in a very diva-like way.

I just want to say I think MC was awesome on AI this week. I don't know about other people, but the show just made me love her even more (and I didn't think that was possible ). Getting to see her on tv every week has been a dream come true for me.

Mariah tweeted that she's off to mix her new single. So in Mariah Time, I expect it to be officially announced in 2-3 months lol. But seriously, I'm very excited by this. Because that hopefully means that her album may or may not be released in May.

Wow, people can say what they want about Mariah being too nice as a judge, I felt so proud watching her last night. She was the epitome of grace and humility, particularly in reference to Amber and Candice taking on songs she has done. I got emotional. 1) Because I could tell Mariah was choked up remembering Whitney. 2) Because as the cameras moved around, you could literally see Mariah lovingly following every phrase, every note encouraging the girls in their own versions of the songs. I was also so moved by what Candice said: She promised herself she'd never do a Mariah song in front of Mariah, but now that she's gotten to "know" MC for who she is, she felt comfortable and confident enough to do it. This is who Mariah is. It is who she has always been when you strip away the distractions of celebrity. It's important she stay true to that regardless of what the producers, the media, and the press are saying.

Why do I have a strong feeling that many of you are not watching the show and just making statements just because. I know this message board is not about other people, but today they did Divas night. The girls Amber and Candice owned the songs by Mariah. Amber did not do as well, but Candice took Mariah to a whole different neck to neck level. She did Whitney justice. I recommend you all to watch that. Now I'm not a Beyonce fan, but Angie beat Beyonce at singing her song Halo. Amazing. Amber sang a song by Barbra Striesand and Lord have mercy, it was the song of the night. I thought I was in a movie.

Randy/Poets/songwriters (37,585)

Most poets are good with words, the good ones are anyway. The best songwriters are as well, but that doesn't mean their speaking styles are going to be for everyone. One thing does not guarantee the other. People crack me up being pissed off because someone else doesn't speak or act the way they think they should or "better" than someone else. It's hilarious how people are getting so bent out of shape, meanwhile MC is going on with her life. Oh and sorry, I don't see why anyone is so impressed by emblazened or incessantly. But I rather hear MC speak than hear the clown say honey boo boo child in her fake accents over and over again. Lol.

Uhm, I did say "Many people allegedly jumped shimp." You may not be one, but they did go somewhere. Perhaps to the wack the voice. Lol. Nicki is still the reason for this Idol floppage, IMO. Idol producers screwed up a divine opportunity for a new era, by muddling the whole thing up with Nicki Minaj and her unprofessional antics in particular and just by adding a fourth judge in general.

Mariah has been in the industry for years, why the big who ha if she doesn't top the charts anymore. She had her moments already. Unfortunately, and I hope this stays this way, but I hope she doesn't become a sell out just to be on top. Music has changed tremendously, all it's about these day's is about sex, sex sells and that is very unfortunate. Mariah will always have places in our hearts whether we are fans from back in the day, mid career, or a new fan. We should be glad she is alive and still able to make us music cause at the end of the day we only have one Mariah. I've learned we just have to take it for what it is sometimes. I have my moments of disappointments of "lazy" albums or promotion, but she is still Mariah too me and she is a part of my life for... damn... almost 18 years now.

I checked out Ariana Grande's Emotions, you weren't kidding. She could be the new MC. She did pretty good with the whistle register. Certain ranges that she hit made me think it was Mariah singing, because I did more of listening then watching the video. By the way, every time I see your picture I think of Will Smith.

I didn't jump ship when they signed Nikki to the show. I thought it was a good addition and diversified the panel but I didn't care one way or another. But clearly Mariah has disappointed when it comes to expressing herself. How could the woman who uses words such as emblazoned, euphoric, disarming and incessantly in #1 pop songs, seem to be grasping for words everytime she opens her mouth? For a minute, I was starting to think MC was using a ghost writer because she's so inarticulate on the show. Then my ex reminded me that she's always suffered from stage fright or being put on the spot. That's why her live television performances are so mediocre. She has a lot of time to write a song, alone in a studio. What angers me the most is once again on a live television show seen by many non-fans, she is choking like she does with her live performances. And once again I am having to defend her talent and genius to non-lambs. P.S. I am not a Minaj fan. In fact, I sampled songs and lyrics from her album after watching the show because she is so interesting. She's not the lyrical genius MC is and it pisses me off that she's more articulate when put on the spot.

Rating replies about AI (37,580)

Ok, you all say well people can vote many times too. Well there is still a limitation though. 34 million is a lot for a person with limitation. What's the difference between you guys buying multiple copies of Mariah songs and them? Well you guys have no limitation and she still can't get a million, but these people do. Just think, if a lot of Mariah fans are not watching the show and most of the people that is watching is becoming new fans or coming back. With our 1 purchase and if just 1 million Americans buy her album in just America by watching her on AI, then we got a big thing going on guys. Yes it is sad that we are shooting for just a million, but it's 2013. If she goes higher then I'll be proud. If 1 million is reached, then a buzz will be created and more people will also buy just because it's the "it" album.

Is Ariana Grande a younger Mariah clone? (37,579)
by Edward from USA

While reading online, I heard this 19 year old girl new single called "The Way" and how people thought it was a new Mariah song when they first heard it. Her name is Ariana Grande, and she sounds very much like Mariah when her midrange was intact; she can also hit those stratospheric high notes. I don't think her voice is as strong as Mariah's minus the whistle register. Well, I went to YouTube and saw a cover Ariana made of Emotions and I almost choked, she can hit all the high notes exactly as Mariah could. I was opened-mouth. As I said, her voice minus the register is not as strong as Mariah's, but it's definitely good. She expressed Mariah was one of her goddess while growing up, and she was honored to have been compared to Mariah.

Just an observation (37,578)
by Gilbert from USA

My mom is cute and I thought I would just add this, because she doesn't go back and forth like we do here on the board. She did make a very good point. She was watching The Voice the other day and she was telling me how fun it is to watch because the judges laugh and pick on each other and make a great connection. On American Idol she says, well, Mariah and Nicki don't even look at each other throughout the whole airing. You can just feel the disconnect. I actually have to agree with her, because you can sense that on all the shows. As others have said, Mariah doesn't need to worry so much about being too technical. She is who she is and I just think she is worried about losing fans just because she doesn't agree to a song that was sung. I think it's okay to say, that song wasn't your best, or the song didn't catch my attention (hint boring performance). She doesn't do that and in the beginning I sure wish she did, because when the guys did the Four Tops as a group it was boring, they made it a point that they memorized their lines but had to help out the others, etc. So when Nicki said Boo get off the stage, I agreed, but she did it to be funny and I took it that way. It was an awful performance.

I don't recall mentioning Almost Home. Not sure what that has to do with the discussion between you and I. Anyway, the fact remains AI is a dying show. The ratings prove it. If the ratings were higher, I guarantee that 34 million vote total would be much higher. And yes, I knew that was the vote total from last week. It would be interesting to find out what the vote total was during the highest rated weeks of AI. Now, that would be a number to know. You can spin the numbers in your favor all you want, but the fact remains, this season of Idol is the lowest rated ever. Up until last season, Idol was in the top 5 of shows based on Nielsen season ratings of shows. Last season the show was 25. This season it has dropped to 30. So, if I were MC, I would drop the show after this season. People are done with it. The ratings numbers prove that. Peace.

AI and new music (37,575)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I honestly have to say that I think Mariah is doing a rather bad job as being a judge. It seems like she have troubles with building an argument. Where she starts and where she ends up seems totally random. But I like the fact that she's nice, why be a bitch when you don't have to. Maybe that's a Norwegian way of thinking, here everybody is nice and you seldom experience rudeness. Simon was too rude I think. I don't think Mariah will release music during Idol, maybe we have to wait untill the show is over. But I almost can't wait for some new music. Meanwhile, I'll just have to put some old Mariah songs on. Sad about hearing about the bombs in Boston, you fellow American lambs, a terrible thing.

MC should write with both Bruno Mars and the Smeezington and Miguel. They could write some classics. When I Was Your Man is the type of song I want from Mariah. I loved Almost Home, it's the best single she's released in years and it was all her using her God given gift in all its glory.

Votes and twitter followers (37,573)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
These numbers don't translate into actual sales. Lol. Idol votes were over 60 million during the Fantasia era, which was the last time I cared about that show before Mariah came on board. And many of these celebs with so called millions of twitter followers have been proven to have millions of fake or bought followers. Besides lots of people may watch and follow, but very few are buying these days and that is generally accross the board. There are always a few anomalies. I think Mariah is sticking to what she's been doing for the past several years, doing the music that is within her and letting the chips fall where they may. Idol was a decent way for her to make some money, stay closer to home with her toddlers and work on her music at the same time. Idol producers and Nicki are to blame for this Idol flop. I watch the show because of Mariah and in spite of Nicki and many die hard fans allegedly jumped ship the minute Idol signed Nicki to the show.
