Only one true evergreen for Mimi (36,820) by Edward from USA
Mariah's true and only evergreen is "AIWFCIY". One hundred years from now, when none of us is around anymore, and when four new generations of people have come and gone, people will still listen to "All I Want For Christmas Is You", unless we come to a time when Christmas is no more. At that time people probably won't care who Mariah was, and they might not even know her name, but they'll know the title of the song and the amazing voice behind it. The same goes for Whitney and her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner". So, if we go by the definition of evergreen, each one of them only has one true evergreen, the rest will fade in time like everything else. If we were to ask most of Rihanna's and Katy Perry's fans how many songs they can name from Elvis Presley or even the Beatles, since they weren't part of their reality, I can assure anybody they wouldn't be able to name one song, but Elvis had 17 #1's and the Beatles 20 #1's respectively. I personally know Elvis Presley and the Beatles were legends, but I wasn't part of their glory days, hence my lack of knowledge about their catalog. I can name a couple of Elvis songs, and probably 3 or 4 from the Beatles, but I'm 32 years old. It's a good thing though, that the Internet will keep expanding even wider, and if somebody wanted to research about music and who was that lady behind AIWFCIY, they'll be able to google it and find out. "AIWFCIY" will always be to Christmas as Whitney's "TSSB" will always be to US patriotism.

UK evergreens (36,819) by Bill from the UK
The discussion around Mariah's evergreens is interesting, because it depends on what country you are from really. Emotions, whilst a great demonstration of Mariah's vocal techniques, was a #1 in the US, but a minor hit (top forty) everywhere else. From a UK perspective, the only songs of hers I ever hear on the radio are All I Want For Christmas Is You, Hero, Without You, Endless Love and We Belong Together. Sometimes the urban stations play the Fantasy remix, but only when doing a "90s" or "vintage" playlist. A lot of her huge hits stateside were minor hits everywhere else (particularly her earlier recordings), so it shouldn't be that surprising that somebody from Europe doesn't consider a song like Emotions as evergreen as others may.

Mariah's evergreens will be determined by radio play (36,818) by Nick from Canada
It's difficult to speculate on what people will or will not remember. Yes, Mariah is known as the singer of Hero, but Hero isn't really played on the radio anymore. To this day, I hear I'll Be There, Emotions, Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby and We Belong Together now and then on AC/mix radio. And of course All I Want For Christmas Is You is an annual hit. I think these songs will encompass her "evergreens". Those who do not cite Emotions, specifically, are crazy. I hear that song on the radio the most aside from AIWFCIY.

Emotions/TJ from Norway (36,817) by Zachary from Croatia
Emotions not being Mariah's timeless song?! Where have you been? Lol. A very big number of people who are not Mariah's fans and who I know, when they run into me, they often say that they have heard Mariah on the radio, that (their words) high pitch song where she goes really high, her big hit, Emotions? I lol always on that. Makes my day.

Jamie / evergreens (36,816) by Stacey from USA
Jamie, Bob's message had already been censored when I checked the boards. I posted my response not knowing Eric had censored parts of the message after others had seen the uncensored parts. I wondered what all the fuss was about not yet knowing that fact. Anyway, Eric cleared things up. Moving on. There are a few songs that yes seem to get played a lot more on radio than others. However, I've also heard my fair share of ABMB lately on radio. That song has a timeless feel to it as well. You can't deny Fantasy (especially the remix that was so groundbreaking in music), and One Sweet Day (which still holds the record for most weeks spent at #1). All of us are going to have our own "evergreens" depending on the era in which we discovered MC. I grew up with her early music and therefore thing about songs like Dreamlover, I'll Be There, Vision of Love, etc. Oh my, VOL is absolutely an evergreen. I can't believe that one hasn't been mentioned yet, lol.

TJ (36,815) by darnell from United States
I beg to differ. I think Mariah has plenty of "evergreens". One Sweet Day and We Belong Together were both songs of the decade and I think people still remember them. Always Be My Baby and Dreamlover were both songs that I had been familiar with since before I knew who Mariah Carey was. Both also, in my opinion, have a timeless feel to them and are memorable. Another song that I think is timeless is Mariah's rendition of Joy To The World; I always hear her version during Christmas time on the radio. That being said, I think your being a little modest when it comes to MC's music.

Zachary/timeless songs (36,814) by RibbonB from USA
I agree with you Zachary. The real interesting thing is to date, Rihanna has amassed a few number one singles but she has never had a number one CD. That's very telling about today's music and so called number one artists. Lol. If this cd of hers goes number one, it will be her first according to Billboard as of 11/21/2012. And anyone who thinks Emotions isn't a classic hit is nuts. Lol. Don't Forget About Us, Touch My Body, Always Be My Baby, Emotions, My All, Mariah's list of timeless songs goes on and on. Some and I say some people may not like TMB, but they can never forget it. I have no idea what Rihanna's number ones are. Lol.

Evergreens (36,813) by Jamie from UK
In 60 years, Mariah will be remembered for All I Want For Christmas Is You, Without You and Hero. I think those are her most memorable hits. That long list of number ones will only be memorable to the lambs.

Rihanna on top (36,812) by Lainsky from Philippines
Well I just want to be honest that I am a bit (just a bit) surprised that Rihanna surpassed one of MC's record (span of time to reach 12 #1s) and now MC's 18 #1s is not far to be broken too. Well perhaps it's ok, the important thing is, MC has established her name and her records are meant to be broken at some point. I just wish MC will have a few more #1s in the coming years and I guess it is not bad to wish that.

Mariah's evergreens (36,811) by TJ from Norway
I don't think all of Mariah's #1s has the evergreen status as mention earlier. In my opinion there are just a few. I guess maybe Fantasy, Hero and I'll Be There are evergreens. All I Want For Christmas and Without You are evergreens (in Europe). No one can tell me that Touch My Body, Don't Forget About Us, Heartbreaker, Someday, Emotions, Thank God I Found You (and so many more) are evergreens. Artists have many number one songs, but not many evergreens.

Instant hits and then forgetable (36,808) by Zachary from Croatia
Rihanna maybe do score number one places on the charts, but those songs are almost all the same. And then you just forget about it. Mariah´s number ones are evergreens and timeless.

Re Monroe (36,807) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I thought the same thing, Jenny. She has a striking resemblance to Mariah as a child. I can't believe how fast the twins are growing up.

Monroe (36,806) by Jenny from South Africa
I don't know if I'm just imagining things, but in that picture Nick posted of Monroe, her face just reminds me so much of that picture of Mariah as a child playing in the sand in her #1's album sleeve. Both pics are just so adorable.

Re: CDC - Rihanna (36,805) by Jamie from UK
Diamonds has peaked at #2 so far on Hot 100, so Rihanna still has 11 number ones as of 21st November 2012. That might change tomorrow but oh well. Her success is explainable by the fact the music climate has changed like it always does and always will. Rihanna is the superstar of her generation, just like Mariah was of hers. In 50 years Mariah probably won't be in the top 10 anymore, but that won't ever devalue her legacy in music. *BTW, The Beatles have 20 not 19 #1s.

Nicki Minaj (36,804) by CDC from CA
As for this Nicki Minaj business: My problem isn't the fact that she released a "diss" track. The issue, I find, is that she released it while she continues on press junkets with nothing but "praise". She was on GMA this morning, and dismissed the scenario as a one-off lapse of better judgment, and yet, her recent deeds seem to be prolonging the controversy much more so than that Barbara Walters conversation. She went on a twitter tirade was apparently instigated by that "View" episode, all the while having the entire events filmed. Interview packages and all. She is an absolute hypocrite looking to draw attention towards her latest re-re-release album, which is currently sitting at an abysmal 21 on CA iTunes.

Rihanna ties Madonna (36,803) by CDC from CA
Well, looks like Rihanna's inexplicable streak of number one hits continues with her latest, "Diamonds". Just incase anyone wants to keep track:
1. The Beatles (19)
2. Mariah Carey (18)
3. Elvis Presley (17)
4. Michael Jackson (13)
5. The Supremes (12)
= Madonna (12)
= Rihanna (12)
6. Whitney Houston (11)
7. Stevie Wonder (10)
= Janet Jackson (10)
Who's the odd one out?

Nicki who? (36,802) by Carol from Spain
I can't take this Nicki stuff anymore. Obviously she is dissing Mariah, yet again. This girl doesn't get that she is the only one talking about this. She can't even write proper English. I wish that she goes off again on Idol, so she would be sacked by the producers for good. Mariah is so much better then her for not talking about it. If Mariah ever mentions this, it will be after the show is over and I believe Mariah will speak once and say enough. Let Nicki think she is the best and the one and only judge.

Nicki dissing Mimi (36,801) by RadChad from United States
I haven't heard the new diss track from Nicki, but I'm already ready for an internet leak of "Clown Part II". People forget that Mariah is pretty nice with her pen game too.

Bob/reminiscing about Disco (36,800) by CDC from CA
I caught the original [uncensored] message. A rather harsh way of putting it, but I got Bob's point. It's sad that Donna Summer and Andy Gibb are being sidelined from receiving all these lush, high production tributes probably because they've been marginalized as strictly disco. I don't want to age myself, but I grew up in the UK, so we didn't get much disco for a while until Donna Summer released "MacArthur Park". That was a massive crossover hit, I remember, dominating practically every music format. And frankly, was there ever a bigger star than Donna during the "MacArthur" period? The success of the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack set the precedent for all soundtracks that followed, largely credited to the Bee Gees. They really helped lift the spirits of what were horribly angry teenagers rioting on the streets for whatever reasons. There was tons of ABBA to go around, but absolutely nobody my age would have admitted to even recognizing the melody to "Mamma Mia", let alone "Dancing Queen". There was something severely 'unhip' about them, at least in my schoolyard. Donna and Andy were two of the biggest stars in the world, but it seems as if that fact is being masked in what seems like a continuing backlash against disco among rock circles.

Nicki Minaj (36,799) by Jamie from UK
I really can't see Mariah making a song about her - oh wait, she already did: "I ain't who you think I'm is, I will snatch off all this ish. You think I won't come out of these heels and make it clear?" NTT lol. Let Nicki Minaj make the most of her 15 minutes of fame.

Whatever Bob wrote has been censored by the moderators, that's why you can't see it anymore. I didn't see it either, but I think we can guess what it said based on the responses below.
