Is anyone else beyond tired of this Nicki/Mariah stuff? (36,667) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I just read the article on the front page of the site quoting Nicki. Obviously AI was underhanded in their lame attempts to garner publicity for the show by leaking the feud video. I was looking forward to seeing MC judge on the show - granted I'm not big on AI as a platform, and I had reservations when Mariah signed on, but I thought she was a great mentor in 2008 when she was on. I just feel frustrated by the fixation on the "feud". Frankly, I really don't care. I just wanted to watch to see what Mariah was going to do to support up and coming singers. Right now, quite honestly, I feel less and less interested in tuning in to watch AI. Sigh.

Just wondering, has the Triumphant Single been released in a phsyical form yet? Will it? Anyone know where to buy it? Any talks about this new album?

Mariah and Nicki (36,665) by Miguelito6032 from USA
I think people should let the issue go. I love them both. If you ask me, Mariah needs to stop being such a diva and stop being so self centered. She used to be so humble and charming and respected other artists, now it seems she's lost herself, and lost what I loved about her as a person. She is way too much of a diva now. I still love her music and will continue to support her just, I don't like the person she's become. As far as Nicki, that was disrespectful of her to say the things she said and uncalled for. I do think she is the type of person not to back down from Mariah like everyone else does. Which is good, but she should watch what she says to people. All in all, this fued was all for ratings, and people are buying into it and making it worse. All in all, both Mariah and Nicki need to grow up and get over the celeb highschool drama. Act like ladies, not divas. Very bad image. I'm still a fan of both though. I'm just tired of hearing about it all the time. I hope things change

Stacey/Chase (36,664) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I couldn't agree more. Quality over sales any day. There's been a distinct lack of quality for some time now.

I couldn't agree more with your last post. It's not about sales for me either. It's about quality and lately, it hasn't been that good.

Idol producers (36,662) by RibbonB from USA
Mariah should be upset, if that post is correct. I always believed Idol producers let that tape leak. They really are the pitts, but I will be checking the show for MC. The rest of them are just extras. Lol.

Only legends can do it (36,661) by Carol from Spain
Regarding the album sales, I found this page and I'm glad to see Mimi has several albums featuring on the countdown. http://tsort.info/music/faq_album_sales.htm

Re: Chase from USA (36,660) by Carol from Spain
Well, I'm sorry if the figures I wrote were wrong, but I think the Glitter album sold over 10 million copies. Whatever the number is, it didn't flop as hard as most people want to make the rest of the world believe. What really flopped was the movie and well... movies and soundtracks aren't the same thing. Regarding the Christmas album, well it didn't sell as much as it should. But for me, it's not that important to sell much, it's more important the quality of the music and no one sings Christmas like Mimi.
And it's that time of the year again.

Re: RadChad/Will's recycling (36,659) by nikki from usa
You heard right, I remember that too. Between him thinking that the public hearing him sing with Mariah Carey wouldn't be good for his career, and than that debacle at half time with Janet, I've had it with that guy. I can't believe he did that then left JJ to take all the heat for the incident. Then, the following year Mariah's on fire again and now he wants her to release a 3 year old duet because it would "be good for his career". He dissed two legends. I don't know if MC influenced Aaliyah's singing style, but I've heard both of them in interviews saying they were fans of each other. If she lived, they would have done a duet, it would be amazing. I honestly believe R&B would be different today if she had. Will, MC's always worn her same clothes to other countries. Most didn't get to see that in times before the internet. Back in the day, I paid lambs from other countries to tape her appearances there and we'd exchange tapes. She'd wear something here and a month later be rocking it somewhere else.

Stacey / haters (36,658) by Chase from USA
Stacey, thanks for your response. I actually haven't been labeled a hater in a while. I don't think there are as many fans who lash out anymore. If I may speak for you, the thing about you and me (and many other people who post here) is that we love Mariah so much and feel so deeply connected to her music that we won't accept something subpar. We know her talent better than that, and we want to see her at her best, doing what she and her fans love. Her music is such a blessing in our lives that we aren't fooled when we know she can do better. There are so many classic songs - Underneath the Stars, Mine Again, Anytime You Need a Friend, Can't Let Go, etc. - that have filled my life with joy. I know Mariah herself reveres those songs, too. I know she can still write and perform material that amazes us, and it frustrates me like crazy when most of the songs we've heard lately are uninspired and dull. There's no reason for that, and there's no reason we should be considered haters. We're anything but.

Carla, Glitter / flop? (36,656) by Chase from USA
Carla, I have to call you out for saying Glitter sold 10 million worldwide. The highest figure I've read is 3 million. There is no official way to track an album's worldwide sales, but judging from the fact that Glitter has, as of 2012, sold less than a million copies in the USA, I would be absolutely shocked if it has sold 10 million worldwide. I will agree it didn't flop as hard as the media suggested, but the film was an enormous critical and commercial failure, the soundtrack sold far less than any of Mariah's previous albums, and it was all accompanied by her very personal breakdown. Taken altogether, it was a very rough patch for Mariah. Of course, I think we can all agree that an album's chart position and sales figures are not representative of the music's quality. I didn't like Glitter at all, but many fans did, and I respect that. I love Charmbracelet. It is also considered a flop, but that doesn't change the quality of the music. It would have been nice if it had sold 10 million, but I'll take it just as it is. Same goes for MCIIY, which didn't exactly light the charts on fire. I still think it's a classic and hope it continues to sell annually. That said, I think some lambs get a little too excited and tend to inflate sales figures to show support. Next we'll be hearing Memoirs sold 20 million.

Re: Bob, IAA from USA (36,655) by Carol from Spain
Hi Bob. Thanks for your reply. I posted that message, after seing your post also. Being a Mariah Carey fan is hard sometimes, because we get lashed back lots of time. I totally understand where you're coming from with that story of buying Glitter at that time, because I had a similar story back then. Glitter was and still is an amazing album and, unlike haters say, it didn't flop at all, because untill today, it already sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Ultimately, we all need to accept that Mariah should feel the artistic freedom to express however she feels like, because she is the one who'll be stuck to the songs forever. The artist needs to love what he is singing. Mariah will always be different from the rest, because she doesn't do music for the masses, she does it for the selected few.

Geezy/Will/Diva antics (36,654) by Licia from USA
I agree with all of what Geezy said. I have never cared about who she worked with, whether she went with pop or rnb, or if she is number 1 all the time. I just want great music. Will, I remember when everyone was whining about too much JD. I think their chemistry in the studio is phenomenal and his shoutouts don't bother me when there is a great song. I must be the only one who thinks her diva antics are hilarious. I never take it seriously and I think she does it to be funny. People are always saying she's one, so she gives them a reason to call her a diva. *Kanye shrug* lol

Carla and why "Glitter" has a special meaning for me (36,653) by Anonymous from
Wow Carla. I finally met another Lamb who actually feels like I do, that "Glitter" was one of Mariah's best. I think for me I feel that way not so much because of the musical content, but for the "historical signifigance" it had in the American lamb family and for me personally. It was released on September 11, 2001, the day of the terrorist attacks against America. I had planned on buying the new CD that day but I, like most Americans, was "glued" to the TV throughout the day. By the time WTC 5 collapsed in the late afternoon, I said "overload" and had to step away. It was then that I realized that I hadn't gone to the store yet to get "Glitter". I got in the car and went to the record store (remember those?). They were open but it was a ghost town. The guy had the TV on watching the coverage. I brought my purchase to the counter and he said "The US is under attack and your buying a stupid Mariah Carey CD?" I still remember that. I told him I needed some seminance of normalcy, and being a lamb I needed my "comfort" which was Mariah. On the darkest day in recent American history, Mariah got me through and that's partially why I love the album, and the movie too. Historical footnote, "Glitter" was the last movie ever filmed that had the Twin Towers in it.

Chase (36,652) by Stacey from USA
Your post "entitled" suggestions was spot on. I feel that same way too. She is capable of so much more than what we got with Triumphant. I saw the cover art and thought, "Where have I seen that before?" That's not good. That's not going to grab the public's eyes if it's something they have already seen before. What made her so different, so amazing was that she was capable of wowing us with each album, coming up with so many different songs and sounds. After CB's modest sales, folks were wondering if MC had a commercially successful album left in her. Um, she totally did and I think still does have the ability to wow us with something amazing, something new and fresh. You and I aren't hating on Mariah. We just know MC is capable of so much better. On the days I walk on my treadmill, I'm listening to Mariah. Honestly folks, go back and listen to those favorites of the past. If TEOM was "the return of the voice", 2013 needs to be "the voice is here to stay" and then deliver an album that shuts up all her critics for good, lol.

Opinions on MC / Unplugged / charts (36,651) by Stacey from USA
Fans are always going to have their say on what MC should do or not do. And they should have that right to express their views no matter how much it bugs another fan. That's the point of a messageboard. I also loved the article giving love to Unplugged. It's one of my favorite albums. I so wish MC would have done another Unplugged with more recent material from Daydream onto the present. *sigh* One can dream. I absolutely love the Unplugged rendition of Make It Happen to the album version. I remember MC being accused of being a studio creation. Part of why I love Unplugged so much is the album shut those critics right up and put some duck tape on those lips. She sounded amazing, and I'll Be There? That song will always be a classic. There was magic in the air that night. When you become a fan as I did in the early 1990s, it was easy to expect MC to top the charts each time. You got so used to the top spot or Top 10 finish that you almost expected every song to top the charts. Those days are gone. Doesn't mean she won't have great finishes like Obsessed hitting #6 or TMB hitting #1 a few years ago. It just means we shouldn't get disappointed if she doesn't chart high everytime. If it's good music and you're happy with it, that's all that matters. Peace.

Geezy (36,650) by Chase from USA
Amen. That Christmas album was fantastic. She proved she can sing the hell out of a song and showcased her talent for songwriting on "When Christmas Comes" and "Christmas Time is in the Air Again". Wonderful album with great production.

All I want is... (36,649) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
All I want is for Mariah to bring quality back to her craft as she did in my opinion with MCIIY. At this point she's made it to the history books she has nothing left to prove, all she needs to do is be consistent. Good songs, great lyrics and production and more importantly, great quality voice and performances.

JD (36,647) by Will from England
I find it entertaining how the opinion of JD sways so very quickly. During MOAIA, the lambs were begging Mariah to get back with JD, and she did on the Christmas album. Now they're begging her not to work with him. Make up your minds already. I personally don't mind their songs together, I still think they're stand out tracks on whatever album she does.

Suggestions (36,646) by Chase from USA
I don't have ten things to suggest. I just think Mariah needs to grow with this album, as she did on many of her best and most successful albums. Daydream, Butterfly and The Emancipation of Mimi all sounded different than their predecessors, and they all showed new levels of growth and maturity. The image worked with the sound, too. I'll be blunt; "Triumphant" may be the worst song I have ever heard by Mariah Carey. At the very best, it sounds like a throwaway track from E=MC2, and the cover art looks like a leftover from that era or even TEOM. I have been disappointed with a majority of her music from 2008 on, and the videos have, at times, been shockingly bad. It's been painful. There has been little growth if any. I think of how extraordinary Mariah was during her heyday, and I sometimes struggle to even recognize that Mariah within the new material. Maybe she has drained the R&B well and needs to adopt a new style; maybe she just needs a savvy new manager to provide guidance. If she wants to stick with R&B, I think producers like James Poyser can give her a timeless sound, and some fresh blood from new collaborators, like Bangladesh or Sean Garrett, may help with modern R&B tracks. I hope she makes it fun and has fun. Somehow, the material, the promotion and the image all need a major shot in the arm. Otherwise, her new music will continue to be ignored by the general public as they occasionally play hits from the 90s and 2005 and reminisce about the "good ol' days".

Edward re: What I would tell Mariah (36,645) by Anonymous from
I'd go up to Mariah, look her straight in the eyes and say "Mariah, you do whatever you want to do." As a lamb from way back, I can assure you that I've never agreed with everything she did, but by the same token, I will never turn my back on her. As you all know, there is "unconditional love" for Mariah within her lamb community. Some of us a little bit crazy. Many of you know how rabid a lamb I am. I'd take a bullet for her ("Hey Nicki, whatcha got there under your coat?") but that doesn't mean I agree with everything (like the Obama nails, e gads) she sings, says, or does. That's why I will never say she should do this, or sing that way. It's her life and her decision and if she can look herself in the mirror each morning with no ill feelings about herself or her choices then that's good enough for this ol' lamb. Just my opinion. Not saying anyone else should feel this way. Enjoy the day everyone.

New album (36,644) by Brad from USA
Hi lambs, I hope everyone's doing the best they can. I would just keep it simple for MC before thinking about her next release, including the full album. It comes down to one question, really. What would Luther (Vandross), Patti (Labelle), Diana (Ross), Carole (King), James (Taylor), Carly (Simon), Aretha (Franklin) and Stevie (Wonder) do? Because that's the company we're interested in keeping and the context we want to be thought of in, right?. So if they wouldnt do it, then don't. K? Be well you all.

Triumphant and so on (36,643) by Carol from Spain
Still regarding Triumphant, everybody says Mariah features in her own song. Always defended this song and still do, always will. I wonder if people forget that this isin't the first time Mariah looks like she features in her song. But i can't remember this being an issue back then. Does everybody remember Glitter? Well, the song with Mystikal (Funking Jamaica) had the same so called "problem". It looks like Mimi is featuring in her own song. Personally, it's one of her best albums and one of her best collaborations to date (and I'm not a fan of Mystikal). I just don't understand why all the criticism to Triumphant. The song is just number 1 stuff, really.

Critics (36,642) by Carol from Spain
Everybody is a critic and that's nice, until a certain point. I honestly don't understand what people want to hear these days anymore. Mariah is called a diva, but is that a bad thing? I don't think so. I believe if there is place for the over sexy look of Lady Gaga and Rhianna (just to name a few), I really think we need the other side of the balance. The sofistication of Mariah Carey is so welcome and, unlike the others, when Mariah looks sexy, she is actually showing something she is: a beautiful woman. People need to get over this thing of not inviting rappers or collaborate with JD, because that's the real Mariah and, if she didn't do it, it would be weird.
