MOAIA/ The legacy continues (36,566)
by RadChad from United States

I'm agreeing with everyone that loved "Memoirs". She had so many great songs that I still listen to on the daily: "Becha Gon Know" (awesome), "Candy Bling" (stone groove), "Hate U", "Inseperable", "Its A Wrap", "Languishing" along "The Impossible", "Angels Cry". I believe many have just simply slept on this album. Grant it to do want MC to constantly branch out musically, but I actually believe one or two tracks from The Dream could be a nice touch. So far we know Rodney Jerkins and R. Kelly has also contributed to the album, so I'm not too worried about the album not sounding fresh. I believe Mariah has heard us out, so let's just see where she takes us with the new ballad before we go in.

Mariah Carey: Greatest Hits 2 (36,565)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
If there will be another installment of the Greatest Hits anytime soon, it should start from the Glitter album since the first greatest hits comprised only of the released tracks that started and ended all throughout her Sony career. Sony has been and will be realeasing different Greatest Hits formats, but the tracks are all the same with only few changes. While she has been recording albums in the past 12 years outside Sony and the first Greatest Hits came out only after 11 years, the second installment is long overdue IMO. If I had to choose the tracks it would be as follows: 1. Loverboy Remix 2. Lead The Way 3. Never Too Far 4. Through The Rain 5. Bringin' On The Heartbreak 6. It's Like That 7. We Belong Together 8. Shake It Off 9. Don't Forget About Us 10. Touch My Body 11. Bye Bye 12. I'll Be Loving You Long Time 13. Obsessed 14. I Want To Know What Love Is Bonus Tracks: 15. I Miss You 16. H.A.T.E.U Remix

Greatest hits 2.0 (36,564)
by M from USA

If there were a greatest hits collection in the works from Island/Def Jam (years 2002-2012) what would be on this track listing? 1.Through the rain 2. It's like that 3. Shake it off 4. We belong together 5. Don't forget about us 6. Touch my body 7. Bye Bye 8. 9. Obsessed 10. ? 11. ? 12. ? 13. ? 14. new song 15. new song Worthy of making the cut? Despite poor response as a single: Say Somethin', I Stay In Love, Angels Cry, Up Out My Face, Hateu, I Want To Know What Love Is, Boy I Need You, Fly Like A Bird, Lovin' You Long Time (#58), Triumphant.

New album (36,563)

I just wanted to say that I love MOAIA and I honestly have never skipped a song on any cd, well wait... one song that gives me a headache is off rainbow "Did I do that", the rap repetition throughout ugh drives me crazy. But I think MOAIA had good singles, but radio and promotion failed. I don't understand the concept about being over 40 causes radio to be done with an artist. If this true, then why did J.Lo's "On the floor" and "Dance again" become radio hits? She is the same age as MC. Perhap's Idol helped her but still I don't get it. It actually really upsets me to know that "Angels Cry" and "HATEU" will never be on a greatest hits collection. These singles were amazing and flopped. I wish Mariah would switch things up, not just exploring new musical sounds but also her image; shorter hair, jeans and t-shirt. Can you imagine how hot she would look? I would love to see less diva and more relaxed drama free Mariah aka 90's. I think revisiting collaborations with Walter would be beyond smart. All that being said, I will always support her and I am lamb for life. I just want her to have a huge comeback and show the world she is not done.

I also love MOAIA. I have a special attachment to this album, because my first wedding dance was to IWTKWLI. Alain, I'm glad you mentioned "Inseparable"; I think MC's vocal is amazing in this one. And "Candy Bling" is atmospheric. My fave is "H.A.T.E. U". I'm really looking forwards to the new album.

Again I simply agree. If only this album was nicely promoted and the management (or MC) has chosen the right singles for release, I believe this will sell better than E=MC2 or even more popular. IMO, this album, the songs came from MC's inner core as a songwriter and a person. Although this can be classified as an RnB album, it sounds different for me from CB, TEOM and E=MC2. It has soul and story. I know it's been three years and I still regret that people did not get the chance to hear "Standing O", "Candybling" or "Inseparable" and "More Than Just Friends". Mariah sounds very differently on these songs, not to mention they are really beautiful too and very commercial. Sigh.

I still and always will love this album. I'm not a big fan of The Dream, but he did a great job with this album. I believe Mariah had so much fun with this album and you can tell. It was a fun project. Songs like Up Out My Face, Obsessed, Ribbon, Candy Bling, The Impossible. Its such a fun album and the way the engineer manipulated her voice and background voice was awesome.

I'm not a great mind? *sniff, sniff* It's all good. I think this is one of those rare times where we do disagree. The Dream, I don't mind if MC works with the same producers. Look at all the amazing stuff she's done with Walter A or JD. It amazed me everytime the songs I'd hear from those guys that sounded so different from their previous efforts. What bugs me about the Dream is their sound is so generic. All his hooks sound the same. I don't mind one song from Dream and MC I guess, just not a whole album. With Christmas approaching, I am super duper excited to start playing AIWFCIY.

I love Memoirs (36,558)
by nikki from usa
| |

Most people write theirs, but Mariah sang hers. She made all the songs bleed into each other and flow like the chapters of a book. I think this is a severly underrated album that's truly a masterpiece. I must be the only fan here who can't stand E=MC2. First time ever I skipped tracks on a MC record. Although, I do agree about Migrate is hit plus silver platter, hello? Memoirs is fun to try to decipher. With comments from MC like "I wish someone would kidnap me", "No one saw me crying running down the beach", "It wasn't a physical relationship, it just wasn't", I can't help but think Betcha Gon Know might be about Mottola hitting some Hawaiian booty on their honeymoon night. More Than Just Friends could've been a radio hit, it was cute and catchy. I think this one is about dating Nick. Wanna hit it like the lotto? Flip her like a channel? And people thought TMB was freaky. I don't understand why anyone would diss Memoirs for sales while praising her 2nd Chrstmas album when it sold half as much. Ususally, if you sell a million copies of a book, it's considered a good thing.

New music, there's still hope (36,557)
by Badr from USA

Mariah and The Dream did create some great songs: "H.A.T.E.U" and "Touch My Body". That being said, I'm not excited about Mariah collaborating with The Dream for one simple reason: he's not an authentic musician. He's just, in my humble opinion, one of those people who creates a catchy loop in a mac and then calls himself a musician. Also, I think there'a major problem with Mariah since TEOM: poor management. I don't think IDJ knows how to manage Mariah's career. They just make too many dumb decisions. This is also a tough climate for a real artist to release any music. I listen to the radio nowadays, and 99% is disgusting, which makes me think if that's a requirement to succeed in today's industry. I know I'm still a fan because I bought Daydream and Rainbow all over again, because the old records have worn out.

MC and The Dream/new album (36,556)
by clueey23 from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah and The Dream make modern day R&B magic together. I'm a big Dream fan. Honestly, when it comes down to the problem with MC's music these days. The single choices and promotion. MOAIA could've done better had they released Ribbon and the remix. Had radio embraced HATE U remix. Had radio embraced Up Out My Face remix with Nicki. Had radio embraced Angles Cry remix with NeYo. It's never the material when it comes to MC, it's just single choices (Migrate is an example of what could've kept an album alive) and radio play and promotion. I read an article that said something about being over 40 is an issue with radio stations. For me I look at it like this. Triumphant could've been well, had they taken a different approach to promotion and feel of the record. The remixes did their thing and brought MC her 16th #1 on the Dance charts. But the original cut just needed a different approach and MC/Rick Ross/Meek Mill should've all been promoting it together. And toned down the glamour of it all, and that song could've worked because it really does have a strong message. If they would've been on the stage together at the NFL kickoff, it would've made for better promo. If MC toned down the look with maybe some jeans that night too, or keep in the same vein of what she had on earlier it would've come off better. The video was coo, but even had she went in the direction of what inspired the song on camera, it could've been magic.

I have been listening to the a capella verison of One Sweet Day all day. Wow, what a masterpiece. I know there are two versions, I am listening to the one where they change up the beginning. Not thrilled about The Dream, but will have faith in Mariah. If you love R&B, pick up Brandy's Two Eleven.

While it is a wet and gloomy day here in NYC, I find myself bathing in a Mariah zone and right now the food feeding my soul is the Butterfly album. I have to say even Mimi followed a formula that was done before Butterfly was released she made it her very own and it worked wonderfully. From the different textures in her voice, the singing style, the writing and production along with personality and image this era and album were both a smash and more. This was truly a personal piece of art as well as a celebratory moment for us fans.

I have to agree with many of you, even though I have listened to this album on many occasions, it is very stale overall. Mariah's heart and soul was so far from that album and her singing and style of the album reflects that. I guess her personal issues at the time were more on her mind then actually recording. I think she went on with the writing and recording more for healing purposes.

The Dream/New album (36,551)
by CDC from CA

Well, we really don't know how much he's involved in Mariah's new album, so I'll reserve judgment. But, if she is working with him again, then she really doesn't get it. Did nobody notify her of the muddy reviews and disappointing numbers Memoirs brought in? Terius even commented on the public's disappointment with Memoirs on twitter a few years ago. She's been outputting the same formula for the last 15 years, and frankly, the results are not always spectacular. It's just about time she branches out. The first non-hip hop producer she worked with in several years was Marc Shaiman on her second Christmas album and the two came up with some brilliant compositions (One Child, Christmastime Is In The Air Again). She chooses to compete with the younger artists who are just as hungry and determined (some even vulgar). If she can't deliver and prove superiority, then she should let it go. An "All About Eve" complex would be most embarrassing. Her body of work makes her relevant, but her recent lack of artistic growth makes her irrelevant.

New album (36,550)
by Brad from USA

Agreed. I wasn't thrilled to see her working with The Dream again (so meh, (lol)) but maybe that's because MOAIA was so underpromoted, whispery and uncommitted. In truth, Obsessed and HATEU aren't bad songs. I personally love HATEU, as it speaks to a more nuanced sentiment (who in life hasn't wanted to break someone down so low, there's nowhere left to go?) and Obsessed should have been a #1 hit but promo on it was so slow and uncoordinated. Mess. Lets just hope it's not an entire album of The Dream, because that wil surely be more of a nightmare. With the platform that AI provides her, I think this go around Mariah needs to be able to include songs that stun the audience in a good way, like when you bought "Mimi" and were delighted to discover tunes like "Mine Again" and "Circles". We are screaming for a revival here, MC. Can you feel us? And the truth is, if the album is really good, it doesn't have to "aim to revive RnB", it will do so all on its own. 'Nuff said. Peace and love. Bye, bye.

The Beatles (36,549)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
Mariah did not start out her career by saying "I'm going to top Elvis and The Beatles." The fact that she got her 18 #1s was purely based upon her popularity at the time and her voice. It had nothing to do with chasing down artists that got more #1s than her. The fact that TMB went to #1, I think was a) yes, it was a catchy song and b) people were excited for E=MC2, especially after TEOM, therefore more people would have been inclined to buy it. Mariah is not chasing The Beatles, nor will she ever try to. That has never been, nor will it ever be, the main driving force behind her albums (and if you disagree, I challenge you to find me evidence to show that she's after their record, then I may change my tune). The only way she will ever top their record is if we support the singles that she releases, regardless of how we feel about it. This is no longer the 90s, so she won't be getting #1s as if there were no tomorrow, nor will she get them if she continues to sound like the 90s (unless of course the songs bring a sound that is refreshing to what is being played). We also have to remember that this industry is anti-ageing, so Mariah will be finding it harder for radio stations to play the songs. If we like it, support it, request it, along with good promo from the company as well as good videos etc., then there is a better chance for her to come closer to their record. Doing shows like Idol is good publicity for her, it reminds the public who she is and what she's achieved.

New album (36,548)
by Will from England

To be perfectly honest, I think I'll wait and see what Mariah and Terius come up with. Be thankful that he isn't producing the whole album. And besides, the song may not even make it onto the album, so don't get all freaked out about it. And to be fair, we have no idea how many songs Mariah has actually finished, or got in the works, or who else she has worked with, apart from the people she has had tweet pics with. We know that there is a ballad finished which B Scott was raving about, so hopefully we'll be hearing that along with some point. This album isn't even finished, yet people are already not liking it simply because of Triumphant (which I still love) and who she is working with. Well, that has successful sales all over it. If we want the album to be a stellar seller, then people's attitudes over whom Mariah works with have to change slightly, and approach it with an open mind. Yes, she may be running a road that she's run down before, but I think the record speaks for itself, as to how well she knows that road and what works. She isn't an idiot and may have learned from the flaws in Memoirs. Also, we know that this album will be an R&B album (if the latest column is to be believed, along with the fact that she herself has mentioned this), so as far as I'm concerned, there's no point in pleading for a different sound, when her mind is already made up, and was made up long before all of this. Let's wait for the whole album to be released before we hate it.

I am looking forward to a new album from Mariah. Brandy just came out with an amazing R&B album. So I am very eager to hear what MC is gonna bring to the R&B table next year. It's so amazing to hear Whitney's tone and Mariah's tones all over this Brandy record. If you are a R&B fan, Two Eleven is a must have.

The Dream, again (36,546)
by Ryan from the Philippines

As much as I want to resist this team-up, it's already official and we have no choice if Mariah wants to work with him. I'll just cross my fingers instead, and hope they'll do something different, somewhat far from TMB, Obsessed and the likes which I didn't really appreciate. I'd say The Dream made good RnB tracks off Memoirs, but the whole production was somewhat lacking, sounds the same and filled with unecessary elements, i.e. male vocals in Ribbon. I think it's enough that they'll work with 1 or 2 tracks.

The Dream again? Seriously Mariah? (36,545)

Mariah, sweetie, my favorite singer of all time (a precarious status now), are you chasing The Beatles or not? Do you realize that Rihanna (someone whom I'll never understand her popularity) is chasing your crown? Lol, please please please, do something new for this new album. This album will make or break you. We do not need WBT part 7, or MOAIA part 2. Everyone is tired of the mid-tempo jams featuring a thousand rappers. We want to hear you. Please do an album with full-voiced uptempos and power ballads.

Why not try Ceelo Green or Bruno Mars? Working with The Dream will still take us to where we have already been. Please Mariah, it's time to step up your game. Stephen, it's all good, my friend. I know you are not the nasty type. Only Trey Lorenz is nasty, lol. I just, I don't know, think folks are dwelling way too much on one person's opinion. It's just not that deep to me because here's the thing: I love Mariah. I love her music. I always will. It doesn't matter to me where Desiree rates her singers, here or on a non-MC site. It doesn't change my love and admiration for MC's music. And that's why I say folks here tend to dwell too much on someone else's opinions. I mean, not to drag up stuff, but look at how some of us were treated when we didn't like Triumphant. Those of us who were dissed are MC fans "till the end of time". (Pun intended, lol.) Remember that? And that was MC fans going after other MC fans. So just chill and don't let stuff like this ruffle your feathers, lol. It doesn't bother me that someone rates MC bottom of the list on purpose or not. It doesn't and will never change the fact of how much I enjoy MC. It's as simple as that for me. Peace.
