I agree with you. I know it's up to Eric though, but it would be a nice gesture, Martyn would smile from wherever he is, Till the End of Time.
Andrew, I hope you keep posting, you've been away from the messageboard for some time now, but some of us have missed you.

Hi Eric. It is good to see your website still going strong.
Six years have passed since Martyn's light was so sadly extinguished at the Manchester Arena (May 22, 2016). Martyn was effortlessly fair-minded, generous of spirit and had a wonderful sense of humour. His death and the deaths of those other souls who perished in the attack was senseless.
I wonder if you would mark the anniversary of his passing somehow on your site as he was, if anything, one of the all-time greatest Mariah fans and an avid visitor to your messageboard. So much time has now passed that it is not difficult to forget and move on.
But I thought perhaps to remind you to rekindle the memory of him in those that may still post on your board who posted way way back when... that he was here, he was as one of us and (as in his favourite song) he will be loved till the end of time.
I wish you well. Andrew.

My issue with Rainbow (102,754)

Jamie, we are going to need a new topic for this week. This one didn't go in a good direction like the one last weekend. I messed up with this one. No more past album or era topics for me.

I think your problem with me is that I speak the truth and always have receipts. And yes I will be a broken record until we find out what happened in 1997. But I said some positive things about Rainbow the album. I waited outside of Sam Goody for 20 minutes until they opened. I had the Rainbow album cover on the back of my bathroom door. I don't hate MC. Never did. I hate MC's deceit. And I still love you Terna.

Excuse you? Speak for yourself Robert. The only thing he leads here is negativity and confusion, trying to bring Mariah down with every chance he gets. As well as being a broken record that plays only two songs. "What happened to her voice since 1997" and "Right to dream".

I have comprised some overall stats of Rainbow and Daydream in all areas and I have discovered some impressive stats. Rainbow was a huge success story for MC despite how Tommy sabotage its success. MC had total creative control during the recording and promotion of Rainbow while Tommy still had his puppet strings on MC during Daydream. Daydream was an enormous success, but MC lost such much control during the album promotion and looked defeated during her Grammys lost when she gave Columbia the best album of her career at the time. I will leave it there. I don't want share too much more of what I discovered about Rainbow being a huge triumph for MC. I don't think Rainbow has ever been called MC's liberation album But that is exactly what it was before Mimi was emancipated. Stay tuned for new post Saturday evening. Let me know your thoughts today. Agree or disagree?

I swear, I really do not come here to be negative. But that era introduced something insidious. Mariah's first lip sync was on the Oprah show in 1997 when she lipped Butterfly. Afterwards she sang everything for Butterfly and #1s live. When the promotion for Rainbow started that's when she started regularly lipping climaxes. Look at the ten thousand performances of Can't Take That Away. I agree with you the album is amazing from start to finish. But that was around the time Mariah started deceiving us live so I can't wave the Rainbow flag.

Rainbow was bigger than Daydream (102,749)
by Bill from the UK

|
|
Whilst Rainbow did indeed have great opening first week sales, Daydream remains Mariah's second-biggest seller after Music Box. I also don't think the singles from Rainbow had the lasting impact that Fantasy, Always Be My Baby and One Sweet Day had. And although the Rainbow tour was a lot of fun, it can't compare to the Daydream tour.
Rainbow is great and underrated, but there is some filler, and the recording/mastering is one of her worst ever. Plus it's the home for Did I Do That, and the less said about that monstrosity the better.

Well, here it is as I promised. I am probably going to get a lot of push back for making this statement. This is why I have made such a bold statement. Rainbow was MC's liberation album. She had creative authority to do what she wanted to on Rainbow. She wanted to fulfill her contractual obligations to Sony Music. So she recorded Rainbow in 6 months. The recording of Rainbow has been her shortest time ever to record an album. The Heartbreaker single Jay-Z feature was a first for MC. It was the first time in her career that another artist was featured on one her lead singles. MC wrote ballads that were closer to R&B than pop for Rainbow. Many of the ballads mirrored sentiments she experienced in her personal life. The first week album sales of 323,000 were the highest in her career at the time. It was the first time a single's remix was featured on the album's initial release. Mariah started this trend that many R&B/Hip Hop have duplicated. It was the first time a Mariah Carey album had two interludes included in the album's tracklisting. The Biana alter ego was introduced. The Heartbreaker video was more expensive than Fantasy. Heartbreaker is one of the most expensive videos ever made costing 2.5 million. Promotion and tour was bigger than Daydream. Agree or disagree?

Rainbow was bigger than Daydream (102,746)

I definitely loved the "Rainbow" era. Mariah seemed to be having fun with the promotion and seemed more relaxed than in previous eras. Out of her #1 singles, I have always felt that "Thank God I Found You" was the most under appreciated - especially the original version. The song probably would have been better as a duet with Joe rather having 98 Degrees on it, but it's still a great slow jam/ballad. "Crybaby" was also a great song that probably should have gotten an official release rather than as the double A-side with "Can't Take that Away". The only song on the album I don't care for is "X-Girlfriend".
I wonder how many of the songs that ended up on "Rainbow" were originally intended for "Glitter". I'm pretty sure I remember Mariah saying that "Heartbreaker" was originally intended for the project when it was called "All That Glitters".

Rainbow is a great album, one of the most underrated and under appreciated in Mimi's catalogue. She had so much fun promoting it, with Bianca, and I'm sure recording it. Heartbreaker was the perfect song to kick off the singles and the music videos were genius. Some fillers but eventually those songs grew on me. Lots of singles and remixes to keep us busy and talking. No skips for me. The album and singles art was on point. We need another Rainbow album.

So many to choose and so many are great. My faves:
1. Vision of Love 2. Can't Let Go 3. Dreamlover 4. Without You 5. Anytime You Need a Friend 6. All I Want for Christmas Is You 7. Fantasy 8. Open Arms 9. Always Be My Baby 10. Always Be My Baby UK exclusive cover
Of those ten, my absolute best is probably Without You. Maybe Can't Let Go. And Make It Happen.

I think Mariah excels when she looks classy. This is evident in the following single covers:
Dreamlover, Without You, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Honey, My All/Breakdown, We Belong Together, Fly Like A Bird
