This is the Mariah I [fell in love with]. That entrance, the raw 100% live singing, husk, rasppiness and all. Then the confidence on stage, not bothering to look pretty nor have good angles for the lighting (notice her exit after that beautiful applause was on her "bad side", no insecurity there). Where did this Mariah Carey go to? Today she really isn't this girl singing here anymore. That line she sings on Candy Bling though, "I'm the same Mimi, fame ain't changed me". Yeah [right] Mariah. Still got love for her though, that will never change.

I have never purchased The Essential Mariah Carey 2 disc set. I just didn't see a reason to since I have other greatest hits compilations.

The only album I've never purchased is the Magical Christmas soundtrack. I have everything else, including compilations. If it was released in the UK (any format), I have it.

All of them, singles included in CD form. I have a few hundred although stopped buying some years ago. I'd like to sell the whole lot, vinyls, magazines included. Ralphie Rosario is a friend of mine in Chicago, and he gave me all his Mariah vinyls. Some records and CD's never even opened. I think I have one with LTT on the CD but not on the sleeve track list. And if course I have a signed copy of Butterfly by Mariah herself among many gems.

The Ballads has some nice pics from the 2008 Elle photoshoot, where the album cover also comes from. #1 to Infinity actually has nice liner notes as well as some rare pics, so I think that's more worth getting. You can also find videos of unboxing of these albums on YouTube so as to get a better picture.

I never bought MIAMTEC. I don't know why, but with all the delays, I felt it was not a cohesive album, just a bunch of random songs put together to make an album. Besides that one, I own every Mariah album.

Great post Tevin. I think that she said on Twitter Spaces this past summer that more was to come for the Rarities and MC 30. And don't forget about the Jumpsmokers Remix album. I tweeted MC today about the Rarities 2 to include CB to MIAM. MC would really profit and receive rave reviews if she released songs on projects from when she was vocally in her prime. I just want to hear Reaching For The Sky and a high quality longer version on Skydiving.

Upcoming projects (101,433) by Tevin from USA

OK so can someone confirm this for me please. Based off of what Mariah has said, and as long as nothing gets shelved by the record company, we should expect to see these projects over the next year or two:

1. The Butterfly Lounge

2. Someone's Ugly Daughter (Mariahs original vocals and Millie B Brown)

3. A themed album (maybe Jazz, maybe Gospel)

4. Movie on Mariah

5. Soundtrack for the movie on Mariah

6. One normal original album from Mariah (unfortunately this may be her last chance with this project to score a top 10 hit)

7. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there supposed to be a Rarities 2 coming out? I need to hear" I lose control", in her debut vocals

So if nothing gets shelved, we should be in for a lot of treats over the next 2 to 3 years. Am I missing anything? And I'm I right about Rarities 2?

I know everyone is talking about 2 or 3 camps of opinions on what Mariah should do, but my question is, why can't Mariah do both? Trust me, I would love to see Mariah sing live since I've never had the opportunity to attend one of her concerts. But as some have mentioned, more and more it seems like her ever touring again is not going to happen due to her vocal decline and how taxing it is on a vocalist.

It would be great if Mariah could create a album that the singles are relatable, lyrically pleasant, and song in an easy simple straight forward way. Maybe 4 songs like that. Then the other 6 to 8 songs she can do the other studio trickery, vocal rest, 10 to 100 piecemeal takes to make them sound amazing.

As for performing she sound stick to doing a couple live televised performances and maybe a couple venue performances a year. Hop on tracks like she did with Big Energy Remix, and work on collaborations, like she seems to be doing with the Butterfly Lounge. That way the handful of times she does sing live, she can rest, and properly prepare to sing the 90 to 100 percent live, while sounding good or decent.

"Stay the Night" was one of those songs that had a snippet leak if I recall correctly, And that was kinda a demo version, because it sounded unfinished. I loved that demo version even then and eventually when she released the album, the song was there in its full glory and I loved every minute of it. It was an instant favorite of mine, because Mariah was "sanging" again. Lol. It is one of those songs one can say only Mariah can sing and pull it off as its built for the type of voice she has – one that has powerful high belts that pack a punch.

Hey Robert. I think Mariah is a polished performer, just not the most exciting. So I will listen to a Beyonce album and go, meh. Then I will see her live and be like, ok, now I get it. Whereas with Mariah, I will see her live, and think, well, that was okay. And then I will listen to the album, the lyrics, arrangement, the different tones and vocal moments, and I'm like, this woman is a genius!

So I was basically saying that if she is going to make new music, I think she should focus on her strength, which I think is her prowess in the studio. Keep the live performances to a minimum or to pre-recorded things she can control like the Apple special or the YouTube Valentines mix. Focus on the lyrics, those layered background vocals, that crazy fast run. If it sounded a little dry, that's okay, drink some hot tea and do take 45, add some studio wizardry if needed. There's no rush at this point.

Some lambs disagree. They don't want what they consider deception in the studio. They want her to sing to her current capabilities so she can produce it live. And even though I might be disappointed at an album with tepid vocals, those lambs also have a valid point. Maybe she should do that.

Yep. We will probably never get another tour ever again. MC probably wrote a lot of her songs in a such a high key that constant trying to replicate the same key on a tour ruined her voice.

With us all realising that Mariah probably prerecorded most of her vocals at the Global Citizen Festival, how much do you think she prerecorded at the BET Awards earlier this year? I feel that was the moment where I actually felt her voice had improved, but have I been deceived? I really think her vocals was live that night, or has Mariah gotten that much better at lip synching? What do you guys think

Who replaces originals on MCs albums with remixes or other versions? For example, on the debut, I switched out the album version for the video version of Someday. On Butterfly, I replaced Honey with the Bad Boy Remix, Breakdown with the Mo Thugs remix, The Roof with the Mobb Deep extended rap. On MOAIA I've replaced Obsessed with the Gucci Mane version, Up Out My Face with the Nikki Minaj remix and Angels Cry with the Neyo duet. What upsets me with Fantasy is I can't mix the dramatic intro with the whistle into the Bad Boy Mix which has the both hooks and ODB. I don't know how you guys put Everything Fades Away at the end of Music Box. That's blasphemous to me.

It doesn't go there lol. I do love that song but Music Box should end on All I've Ever Wanted. How have y'all redone your MC albums.

"Stay the Night" was always an annoying track to. It's not really the music, but the fact Marian's voice sounds too strained and whiney to my taste. I always skip it. I prefer "To The Floor" and " Get Your Number".

I'd say this, he's broader than just hiphop for his production credits (for instance, he produced Alicia Key's "U Don't Know My Name", Janet Jackson, John Legend, etc) and it makes sense if you didn't follow the charts either - Kanye has 22 Grammy wins! A lot for being a producer.

But back to your original point - I love Stay the Night. One of my favorite tracks and the production is incredible.

What if the Holy Trinity of vocals were: Mariah, Brandy (known in America as the "vocal Bible") and Aaliyah (the ultimate of modern R&B imo)?

I've been deep into my Aaliyah and Brandy vinyls recently, and I acknowledge Mariah could mess with Whitney and Celine (those belts are unmatched). However, what instead we focused on Mariah Brandy and Aaliyah and their honey butter delivery and tone? Voice wise.
