Re: MC's sexiest album cover (98,470) (98,473)

#1's and Merry Christmas, two covers from two rather opposed eras. Also VOL and the debut album rear photo, the one with the little dress and the mic, is one of her sexiest. I prefer Fantasy single cover over Daydream one. All of her Daydream photos are very classy and sexy.

See if preferred the snow bunny look of Merry Christmas and think the red Santa suit is the sexiest look she did, in a subtle way. That and Emotions, as it emphasises her great figure.

MC's sexiest album cover (98,470)

I was scanning my Twitter feed today and it hit me that Butterfly is MC's sexiest album cover. It just exudes that characteristic in every possible way. She was a woman in love. Just listen to Honey, My All, Babydoll, Fourth of July, and Whenever You Call.

I've been to some concerts by now, and sadly there's little, if nothing new artistic in the process. I guess people doesn't want that, and as some friends of mine said. She has enough money to buy clothes. Why doesn't she?

I think it's quite obvious. Mariah is a studio singer and who wants to see a studio singer on tour? She's not even an entertainer so what's the point?

"But why are Celine and Madonna cashing in on tours, getting huge crowds willing to pay good money to see them in concert, but not streaming them while they are at home?"
Well, Madonna has always cashed in with her touring. Her tours are huge productions, visually enticing. People go for the nostalgia and because they know they won't ever get bored, she's a true entertainer.
Celine has a core fanbase, not only in English but in French too. She's definitely the Barbra Streisand of this era. Nobody is buying her music like that, but she's earned people's respect as a great vocalist, and she always catered to the adult contemporary listeners. She's considered to be classy.

Those artists put on more of an entertaining show than Mariah does. As much as I love Mariah more than any other artist (and have been to most of her tours) her concerts are technically the same idea but different ensemble lol and the general public know that. Not to many people want to watch her change and get hair and make up touch ups besides the lambily. But I do believe she tours for us fans and doesn’t care if she’s making millions for a show by getting non-lambs inside the venue.

Maybe that was the plan all the long when she left RocNation. She did talk about some frustration with Epic on Twitter Spaces last weekend. Hasn't she fulfilled her contract with Epic? She hated Epic's Instant Grats singles promotional rollout.

The Rolling Stone Charts (98,464)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I every now and then check the Rolling Stone Charts to see which artists are the most streamed in the US, and obviously looking for where Mariah is at any given time. I know the charts don't represent the world streaming patterns, and if anyone here can give me a site to go to where I can check worldwide streaming numbers, please tell me.
Mariah has since the Rolling Stone Charts launched been somewhere around the 200's, but during Christmas, she has peaked at #4. While I'm looking for Mariah, I also look for Brittney, Whitney, Celine, Madonna, Beyonce and Adele, the women artists I have the most respect towards. Interesting is that Beyonce and Adele's streaming numbers are decreasing, but Brittney and Whitney charts where they're usually charting, Brittney often a bit higher than Mariah, and Whitney quite a bit lower than Mariah. Celine and Madonna have always charted, although very low, but when I checked today, they didn't chart at all.
My question is; I have a concern that Mariah is being forgotten by young people, more than Celine, Whitney and Madonna, and I also have friends who tell me this, that Mariah will be a forgotten artist by the next generation, if we are not talking about AIWFCIY. But why are Celine and Madonna cashing in on tours, getting huge crowds willing to pay good money to see them in concert, but not streaming them while they are at home?
Has Mariah become an artist that people stream at home, maybe without people wanting to admit it, but nobody wants to see her live in concert? Why aren't Celine and Madonna amongst the top 500 streaming artists in the US, but people flock to their concerts?

Re: American Idol performance (98,459) (98,462)
by Edward from USA

It's not necessarily her approach, production works that way fior them to have different takes from different angles. I was fortunate have been there when "With You I'm Born Again" was taped, it was sung twice, and then production pieced together the performance from different angles, of course they used the best audio, so it could seem she's lipping when she's not. It was a great peformance, kind of magical. They also picked those of us whom they considered were better dressed and pleasing to the camera and put them on the first three rows. Of course they didn't tell us that, but that's the way it works. The same happened when she entered the stage for "It's Like That".

I'm so here for this. Rather than by rotation (I play the CDs/vinyl rather than stream as it sounds better), I'll just do my ranking:
0. Daydream tour London (I was an attendee) 1. MTV Unplugged EP 2. Merry Christmas 3. Emotions 4. Mariah Carey 5. Daydream 6. Music Box 7. Butterfly 8. Glitter 9. Emancipation 10. Rainbow 11. Charmbracelet 12. Caution 13. Me I Am Mariah 14. E=MC2 15. Memoirs 16. Merry Christmas II You

This is the same approach she takes with many "live" performances. Record a few times and piece together. They did this with "Born again" with John Legend and the late night WBT, for example. If you look closely, you can spot inconsistencies re: where her hair is placed. That said, she often uses backing tracks for select climaxes.
Loved the American Idol medley. Sounded and looked great. Her whole style during that time was sophisticated glam.

What is with all the hate on Caution these days?
I still listen to and love it. A great "mood" album with a consistent theme. And also, her most critically-acclaimed studio album since Emancipation. I used to love having my friends over, setting my lights to purple, and having splashed.

Although I would prefer Maroon 5 over Jo Bros but chances of Jo Bros would be higher simply based on their relation with Mariah. Mariah is close with Nick, they have multiple photos together and Nick surprised his wife with tickets to Mariah's concert (she's a big fan of hers and Mariah seems to like her too). She also sent her book to Joe and Sophie and Sophie always fan girls over Mariah.

Albums ranked by heavy rotation (98,456)
by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa

It's hard for me to rank these albums from favorite to least favorite because they are all so different and I go through phases with how often I listen to them. Butterfly is my all-time favorite, but I played it out years ago so I rarely ever listen to it these days. This list is in order from heavy to light rotation, for 2021:
1. Caution 2. Charmbracelet 3. E=MC2 4. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel 5. The Emancipation of Mimi 6. Rainbow 7. Glitter 8. Butterfly 9. Me, I Am Mariah The Elusive Chanteuse 10. Mariah Carey 11. Daydream 12. Emotions 13. Music Box 14. Merry Christmas 2 You 15. Merry Christmas

An experiement? (98,454)
by Edward from USA

I enjoyed Caution very much, but I've always said it was lacking vocally. I don't care if it was critical acclaimed, but everybody expected at least a power ballad or something. If she couldn't do it in the studio, I would understand, but at this point, people don't care. She should give us her remaining fans those songs and power ballads that got us under her spell. She can then lip the difficult parts in concert, it's not like she hasn't been doing that for years now. "Portrait" is a favorite of mine, but even though she didn't attempt at doing anything impressive vocally on it, one could hear her voice wasn't in a good place. Strangely, I didn't hate the album, I played the hell out of it. As for "Where Are You Christmas", she didn't get to record it in the 90's, so trying it now wouldn't top Faith Hill's. I think she should leave it at that.

My crazy mind came up The Jonas Brothers when I first heard about this. I know how absurd that sounds, but it's what popped into my head. Maroon 5 would be cool but I doubt she would collaborate with them. She should, though. Maroon 5 is very consistent on the charts. She didn't really seem to connect with the guys during her appearance on The Voice. She wouldn't stop going on about Kelly or Jennifer, however.

I think she had a lot going on behind the scenes with her label. She said Caution was rushed, we know she doesn't like to be rushed with an album and maybe she's sitting on some hit material she might have wanted for Caution but is saving it for when she is in a good place with a company. No one will ever know the % she makes from the album so that could be another factor why. I mean who knows but I'm sure she knows the album is not her best and she has so much more to offer.

Bill, I have to agree with Mimi that it wasn't her best vocally. She sounds dry and tired on most of the songs. Plus, it really didn't have any authentic album moments like the Fly Away or Daydream interludes. The big ballads were missing also. Caution is my least favorite Mariah Carey albums. I rather listen to Music Box. At least every track paved the way for the huge ballad finale of All I've Ever Wanted. That is what Caution is missing.

Well, they have been releasing some really hot Pop/R&B songs lately. I really think she could vibe and cook up something hot in the studio with nine guys. Adam's and Mimi's voice would blend perfectly together with some cool harmonies. She is really thinking about having some Pop exposure on the charts again. I am excited about what she comes up with. No Thiller predictions this time. Lol.
