TMOMC / the expressions (96,404) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I'm on the last chapter of the book. I know that's not interesting but I'm wondering about the many f... in the book. It's unpleasant to read that expression on so many sides. The three chapters were okay but somehow very depressive. I hope the last chapter is a bit "lighter". Of course it's non-fiction but after reading it, it leaves me a bit unquestionably. So to do a list for "The Rarities" will be a good idea.

The Rarities ranked (96,400) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Now I happen to know that William cannot resist a list. Come out, come out, wherever you are.

1. Everything Fades Away
2. Firelover Crackerboy
3. One Night
4. All I Live For
5. Here We Go Round Again
6. Out Here On My Own
7. Cool On You
8. Mesmerised
9. Do You Think Of Me
10. Slipping Away
11. Can You Think Of Me
12. Close My Eyes Acoustic
13. Save The Day

I think I have been a bit unfair to All I Live For. I cannot get the chorus of this song out of my head. I just woke up singing it.

The Rarities is one of the best things Mariah had ever released. A little part of me thinks she should have rerecorded all the tracks that were not previously released and made a new album with them.

Firecracker vs. Cameo version (96,398) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Personally I feel like both versions of Loverboy. The original Firecracker version would have worked in the movie as well as on the soundtrack to fit the pop 80's feel. The Cameo was a genius move after all the controversy. The final product was also a great song, and fit like a glove on urban radio. Pay homage to 80's R&B. In my opinion both versions serve a great purpose. Also kudos to MC for being a masterful creative genius for being able to make two great versions of a great song. I can appreciate both versions for what they are because they both fit the project very well. However the Firecracker version is fun pop side of MC. The Cameo is the hip-pop side of MC. I would say listen to the version that you like the best.

I like both versions of the song but I prefer the Cameo version. It has been one of my favorite singles from Mariah since 2001. The Firecracker version is good too because it’s very catchy but I like it less than than Cameo version, sounds a little disjointed, sorry about it. Overall Glitter is some of her best work and where she had lots of creative freedom, even the songs that were straight out of the 80s she found a way to make them her own. All My Life and If We are my favorites along with Loverboy.

Me too Stacey. Yes maybe her vocals sound stronger on the Firecracker one, and I do like that it is playful. However for me it also sounds very busy musically. Gasp. I guess we are sinners.

Not always true, lol. I prefer her pop stuff on most days, but love the Cameo version much more than the Firecracker one.

Re: Loverboy versus (96,386) (96,394) by Stacey from USA
I prefer the Cameo version, but you're right; it amazes me how after she learned of J-Lo swiping the sample, she can come up a redo that many love as well in such a quick amount of time.

Re: Firecracker Loverboy vs Cameo Loverboy vs Remix Lo (96,384) (96,393) by Stacey from USA
I prefer the Cameo version. Not because of nostalgia like some have suggested. To me the Firecracker sample sounds out of place. The sample is in one key and the vocals, music arrangement in another. It doesn't fit. But, that's just my opinion. If people like it, I'm happy for them. I prefer the heavier base arrangement from Candy. Listen to whatever version makes you happy.

Oh Eddie. Eddie, Eddie, Eddie. I was quoting some lines to Toddlicious that he has himself sung before. But I won't sell him out and post the links. I shall simply say this: he is one of our most talented colonists.

Oh, of course she said she preferred the Cameo version lmao she's Mariah Carey: she will say whatever is advantageous to her at the time. How many examples can you think of? Let us take a recent one. STD starts to tank and Mariah quickly films a video of her posing, lying down, listening to it, commenting that of all her songs she's never listened to one of them as much as VD. Right. Her career is a constructed act. And whomsoever doesn't know and accept that by now frankly doesn't know Mariah at all.

You do know tastes, attitudes or mindsets can change over time. I love some songs or even artists now, that I didn't appreciate when I was younger, or for various other reasons. I even hated Hero years ago, but enjoy listening to it occasionally now. Sure Mimi ommitted lots of stuff, there's only so many pages, but I think she was truthful about all that she said, she is careful and rightly so after all the attacks, lawsuits etc, that she has been hit with in her life and career. From recent Stella settlement, to her assistant lawsuit which is still pending, to her own lawsuit of James for wasting her time, or ruining her stunt. That "error" is a book unto itself.

Your lips can't be sealed when you're drooling over someone, that's gay-101, you should know better, B told me so and Robert-Anthony confirmed it. Nothing wrong with being a gay Mariah fan, even if you aren't, people think we're all are by default.

Re: Firecracker Loverboy vs Cameo Loverboy vs Remix Lo (96,384) (96,388) by Edward from USA
I guess she'll say that because that's the version she ended up releasing. I don't think she was going to be giving props to a song nobody had ever heard, given the circumstances. Just like she hated "Hero" and then all of a sudden she found out how much she loves it. I think she just can't stand "Hero" but she also knows that people identify that song with her, almost as her signature song. After her memoirs, I take everything she says with a grain of salt.

Loverboy versus (96,386) by Terna from Nigeria
Seriously? We're comparing the two versions now? Lol. Anyways I like both and can appreciate the absolute [musical] genius Mariah is for coming up with the [Candy] version and making it work. I can appreciate the [Firecracker] version, but it kinda digressed after a few spins for me and sometimes sounds "noisy", too loud, with too much going on at some points to make sense musically. Vocally Mariah sounds healthier on the Firecracker version but the Candy version has a better vocal performance (she uses her voice more) by far than the Firecracker one. It's playtime is also longer giving it room for more adlibs and let's not forget the shade by [Da Brat] sing rapping to the melody of the stolen sample "Hate on me much as you want to." Lol. Epic. These reasons are why I prefer the Candy version over the [Firecracker] one.

Mariah's legacy (96,385) by Libra Lamb from USA
First things first, I deleted my account on this board a few years ago but now I'm back. I've not posted in a while because of all the negativity on this board but I've learned to simply ignore and skip those messages from those people when I see their avatars. Mariah Carey is a living legend. Her music has inspired many people and will continue to do so after we are no longer here. Of course her voice has changed a lot but her passion for writing, recording and producing music she loves has not. We may not love some songs that she has released but they are still far superior than anything else being recorded out there by other artists. I personally am very excited about the new book, The Rarities and anything else coming our way this Christmas. I will always support her no matter what anyone here or anywhere says about her because she is a true living legend and there's no one that compares or even comes close to her creative genius. And simply because I am a grown man and no one tells me what to do, think or feel about anything. Period. Much love to all the true fans out there.

In a recent WWHL aftershow interview Mariah said even though the situation with the Firecracker sample really upset her at the time, today she actually prefers the Cameo version. Clearly an unpopular opinion here.

Re: Firecracker vs. Cameo Loverboy (96,379) (96,382) by Will from Australia
There are elements of the Firecracker sample I like, especially the spoken loverboy parts but I'd narrowly give the Cameo version the win, it had a better flow and is more upbeat, finessed.
