Do you all realize the production credits are going to be crazy?

The 15 songs should be ones we've never heard before. That's my dream, lol.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,021) (95,027) by Stacey from USA
I'm kinda over all the talk about her voice. It is what it is. She knows that her fans, the general public, know her voice isn't what it used to be, whether she admits it or not. So who cares if she keeps quiet about it. I don't. Her interview was nice. Love her dress. One of my favorite "ensembles" she wears. The performance was fine given I don't care about all the "help" she got. The other day I went back to her Instagram page when she first announced #MC30 every Friday. Go back and look at that visual collage video. Amazing. I can't wait for October 2nd. It will be a nice birthday present to me.

Re: How is everybody? (95,020) (95,026) by Stacey from USA
I've had a few meltdowns myself. I suffer from anxiety and depression, take medication for both. I'm out West where the restrictions haven't been as severe. But still, I understand the frustration. Hang in there. Vent here if you need to.

I really can't answer this. We're alive. That's all we can say. The blast in our city have done considerable damage we re only starting to understand. Causalities count still not finished, not to mention the inflation. The number of people who lost their jobs the last 4 months and worse no sign of any positive change. Corona seems to be the last of our problems but the last 3 days scored as many cases as we had since it all started, so curfew is back for 2 weeks now. But we're surviving.

I feel for you Todd and everyone else in Victoria, such a nightmare there. I’m lucky enough to be in Brisbane and we’ve avoided the severe lockdowns but I feel for others around the globe that have lost their norm. Really crap 2020 but as MC says, from manure grows a flower.

Re: The Rarities content (95,016) (95,022) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I've read somewhere that Slipping Away will be part of the album. Mariah supposedly confirmed it in reply to a fan query on Twitter.

Since this album is gonna be a mix of just about everything rare/unreleased from her career, and since Save The Day will be on there, just so I won't be disappointed, I'mma make a safe estimate that at most 5 of the 14 remaining tracks will actually be unreleased material, 4 will be b-sides (Slipping Away and probably Do You Think Of Me included) and 5 will be international/limited release album bonus tracks.

My issue with compilations is that they are rarely ever truly satisfying.

They're also probably testing the waters with this one. Public response to it may determine if they are gonna release a part 2 of some sort.

I'm just glad Mariah and her team are working harder than usual to promote this MC30 era.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,015) (95,021) by Lee from UK
I agree that this was certainly not a "live" performance. It was live when she pre-recorded it but it sounds like a lot of engineering then went into it. Nothing about VoL or CME sounded natural. In some parts it even sounded like the vocals themselves were computer generated but that's a product of over-engineering and audio manipulation. Maybe one day in the not too distant future we may get a fully live performance from Mariah. Even if she sounds nasal, strained and gritty, I'd much prefer that to what we've listened to over lockdown.

Re: How is everybody? (95,018) (95,020) by Randy from USA
I'm glad you asked. We're suffering in the USA. I feel like everything is exhausting. You can't live carefree. Going to the supermarket is a chore. Trying to meet with friends is a chore. Trying to see family is a chore. I've had two emotional breakdowns. What I've had to do is daily keep reminding myself of all the things I have that others don't and be grateful.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,015) (95,019) by Shezz from Pk
I don't think she went and changed in a minute to sing those 2 songs, they were certainly recorded earlier and probably a few times so she could choose the best one or the best parts. So what? It's her performing it, and yes probably engineered. She's an insecure perfectionist - bigger crimes than that to worry about in this world.

How is everybody? (95,018) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
Completely off topic - how's everybody doing with this shitshow of a year? It's f**king bleak here in Melbourne. Allowed out for one hour a day, and we have an 8pm curfew. But on the plus side I'm making my way through all of Aldi's wine range and have a newfound appreciation for Everybody Loves Raymond and Absolutely Fabulous. Hope you are all doing well.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,014) (95,017) by Lee from USA
I agree with you. Besides, if Andrew really felt that way, he wouldn't be here bitching about her every move on MCA. It's like hating the UK and watching BBC everyday. If he had moved to another artist's fansite, with that attitude, he would be crucified.

The Rarities content (95,016) by Bill from the UK
MC's website has the following to say about the album: "The Rarities is a compilation of fan favorites, rare songs and unreleased gems, all hand-picked by Mariah herself. In addition, the second disc is the never before released full length audio from Live at the Tokyo Dome, Mariah's first concert performance in Japan in support of her 1996 Daydream World Tour."

I really hope the "fan favourites" is a reference to the Daydream concert, and that she doesn't turn any of the first disc's 15 tracks over to Close My Eyes, Breakdown, and Butterfly. Unless of course they are different or remastered from the originals.

I'm hoping the rare songs are the B Sides that have been available on singles - Do You Think of Me, Slipping Away etc.

I am most excited about the unreleased gems of course. Please be demo songs. I am so desperate to hear the 1989 recordings or the demo versions of the first album. Mariah always said she preferred them to the finished version.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,014) (95,015) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
So you admit, it is not live and the vocals are engineered? On "prayed through the nights" her mouth doesn't move to the words correctly, she barely inhales through difficult parts whereas we know she has trouble with breathing, she transitions to head and whistle notes without any of the usual effort, she employs the shaking of the head and hand on high notes when she is not actually singing, and so on. This is not live at all and the vocals are engineered.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,012) (95,014) by Shezz from Pk
The 2 songs were recorded earlier, the day she posted the "CurlyRiah" moment, you can see she is wearing the black top below her kimono/robe. It looks like she might have recorded the audio separately and filmed the video after. Lipping parts on a pre recorded performance makes no sense.

Re: The Rarities (94,992) (95,013) by Shezz from Pk
Sarah Mclachlan also has an album called "Rarities", though the complete name is "Rarities, B-sides and other stuff".

Andrew, I often think your arguments are valid (though not nearly deserving of your brutality) but this one feels like you're doing it just because you feel like it. The title is fine, let it go.

If you really want to dissect things then one can also argue that Mariah is wrong to say that there is an omnipresent "Hero" if you look inside your heart.

Pick your battles and be happy.

Are you drunk? Top 5 performances ever? Absolutely insane. Parts of it are clearly lipped/dubbed and it's very nasal. I know it's exciting to have this album come out but let's call a spade a spade.

The Rarities plus hello (95,011) by MC85 from Canada
Hey all. I've been creeping this message board for many years now and finally bit the bullet and created an account. I'm so pumped to share my enthusiasm for our girl with you all, and especially share my supernaturally ecstatic excitement for the new album. Can't wait to share my love with you all.

And only features vocals by Lauryn Hill? Mariah Carey doesn't sing on a Mariah Carey song?

I wonder if MC will release the Butterfly EPs alongside Save the Day, or if she will instead save them for another week. Either way, glad to be getting a new song tomorrow.

Yes I've also heard it samples Killing Me Softly by the Fugees. That was a great song.

New music from Mariah is all we need to lighten up this freakishly bizare and horrible year. Don't cry wolf yet just because it is a collab with JD.

The Rarities is #1 (95,006) by enwar00 from usa
The Rarities is the #1 best-selling CD and vinyl on Amazon at the moment. That's just wild to me, especially considering it's not out for another month and a half. What's more is that the vinyl of the debut Mariah Carey album, also released on October 2nd, is at #8. The promo must really be working to get people this interested.

That's what I was thinking too, something prominent about how they used the sample.
