Wooooooo another Jermaine Dupri collaboration. Need more of them in our lives like we need more CoViD-19 in our lives.

Mariah on GMA (94,981)
by Randy from USA

So I watched MC on YouTube since I slept in this morning. I gotta say she looks and sounds great. Here's my issue. I never feel comfortable giving her credit for a good performance because I'm always thinking she lip synced it. I made peace a long time ago with MC's voice suffering irreparable damage at some point and for whatever reason she still writes and sings with an engineer's help to make it seem like she's still the greatest vocalist of our generation. I've learned to love MC through the rasp and deception. I want her to win. There's just always a small part of me that wants her to be honest with us and with herself. But I'm sure die-hard delusional will say "she sung live" or "she didn't sing live because she was nervous there was no audience, her implants were inhibiting her from breathing, the air conditioning was on, the heat was on, her nodules were inflamed, her nodules were laid off, dem babies were sleeping in the next room and she didn't want to wake them, her voice is social distancing or she was campaigning for Biden and trying to sequence The Rarities so she was distracted".

Apart from the curly hair, she is wearing a dress resembling the one on her debut album to sing VOL at GMA. She's on fire in this era.

Andrew, Mariah has a right to name her art whatever she chooses. Everything does not need our approval in order for her to do it. I understand that you may not like certain things about MC, however just because you do not like it, that does not mean that you should rain on other people’s joy who are enjoying the moments. Again we should be thankful that she is giving her fans these moments, and gifts while she is still able because some of her contemporaries, and artists she has admired, and have been compared to are no longer here to bless their fans with the same experience, and gifts. I am just going to give MC her flowers while she is here to receive, and smell them, and the things that do not peak my interests I will not touch. Maybe you can do the same.

Beautiful, healthy, calm. She looked amazing and she looked so comfortable. This is the energy I love to see her in. Being at home and working on these projects has grounded her so much and I love to see it. I hope for many more moments of confident Mariah like this one.

Randy, I don't know if as much as you do, but I do also love "Right To Dream". And "Help Me Make It" of course.

Hi Bill, according to Sony Japan, the demo tape is really included in The Rarities. Not sure to what extend but we are finally going to listen to and own some pre-debut materials. Our collection is going to be so complete.

Sony Music Japan just announced that there will be a 3 discs edition of physical release. Two CDs plus a high resolution Blu-ray of the Tokyo Dome concert. So our dream does come true.

The Rarities (94,972)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom
| |
|
|
The title is stupid. It doesn't even seem to make any sense. A "rarity" seems to be a quality, like, "to see Mariah live is a rarity" or "having pizza in the week is a rarity". To say that "the Tokyo Dome concert is a rarity" is, firstly, not true, and secondly, a strange sentence. An unreleased song is a rarity? Nope. I don't think it is.
Mariah used to be so good at naming things. Every release title since The Emancipation of Mimi has been bizarre (save for maybe Caution) - and you can add the memoir title to that list.

Great news. I was hoping for a CD release, but wasn't sure if it will happen. Can we talk about this beautiful album cover? It reminds me of the Daydream cover so I absolutely love it. It looks classy and beautiful.

Lauryn Hill (94,970)
by Todd from Sydney, Australia
| |
|
|
Well I might have to eat my words. I've spent most of my life actively disliking Lauryn Hill. Something about her voice just makes me squirm. But who knows - I couldn't stand Bone Thugs but then "Breakdown" became one of my favourites. If this carries on, next year she'll release a song with Katy Perry or Sam Smith.

It is true. Our wish has come true. October 2nd is the release day. This is a very smart move to release songs that the world has never heard before when her voice was a beast.

Save the Day (94,965)

This comprehensive list of unreleased songs by Mariah lists a track called "Save The Day" which was allegedly written and produced by Mariah and Jermaine Dupri in 2012 for charity. Could it possibly be the same track from the Rarities?

Okay so MC just Instagrammed that it is out October 2nd. Amazon have it listed and it contains a new 2020 track called "Save the Day", the Tokyo Dome Daydream concert, and 14 other songs.
It feels like I'm dreaming, but I'm not sleeping.

Mariah & Santa: A true story (94,959)
by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
| |
|
|
When I was 10 years old, Mariah released Emotions. I had been in love with her voice and her lyrics since I was 9 and heard Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, and Someday (this one I loved soooo much, I'll never get the image of her in those jeans out of my head).
So here we are, Christmastime '91 and I really really wanted the Emotions tape for Christmas. I was a smart kid that asked a lot of questions, so the Santa Claus myth was debunked years ago for me. So I had already made my Christmas list and it was full, each of us kids only had a certain amount of things we could put on our lists. Also, I was worried that the album would be considered too adult-oriented for me at that age. So I never told not even 1 person that I wanted Emotions, not a soul.
So it's the holidays and my older sister at the last minute decides to take me with her to her job's holiday party. It was a last minute decision and they let me know I was going just an hour before the party. I get there and they are handing out gifts to each of the kids. So sweet. And of course, with my luck I got the smallest gift. But I didn't feel so bad when I considered that they really didn't know I was coming probably. So I opened this small rectangular gift... and I literally could have died. I was speechless. I couldn't even speak or believe my eyes. It was the Emotions cassette. I think I told every single adult at that party how grateful I was, I could not believe that the impossible actually happened. So this made me question so many things, but mainly my disbelief in Santa Claus. No one knew I wanted it, I wasn't even supposed to be at that party, how the heck did this even happen. So for a brief couple of years, Santa became a little more real again.
Oddly enough, after all these years I never made a connection between my Mariah story and her Queen of Christmas identity. This happened before Merry Christmas so I never put the two together until thinking of a title for this post. I guess I could just say, how foreshadowing.
Thanks for reading, I hope some of you get the magic, this is one of my favorite childhood memories.
