Re: NHS choir - Anytime You Need A Friend (93,507) (93,508) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
There was a really sexy blond guy on here recently who said that Anytime You Need A Friend would be the song to fit the times. What a wise soul that guy was.

Guy's and St Thomas Hospitals in Central London have helped me out many times, without cost, efficiently and always with good spirit. I love the NHS (National Health Service in the UK). I love what it stands for, I love what they do and I love everyone in it. Great rendition of AYNAF. I believe a comment from Mariah is in order.

Re: Fan favourites concert "no April Fool's joke" (93,504) (93,506) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
What I also appreciated from Mariah's iHeart Living Room performance: she didn't flash her house. I don't believe her recording microphone is in an unglamorous tiny corner with a few picture frames. She's Mariah Carey - rather quite well known and successful in the world - and I am sure she can afford bigger and better than, say, a Backstreet Boy, but, whilst people stuck at home in tiny apartments without gardens or outside spaces looked on, the Backstreet Boys showed you opulent living rooms, grand pianos, grandiose fire places and, ugh, a swimming pool. Crass. That Mariah filmed her segment it in a humble corner was a very on-point thing to do.

We all (93,505) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
We all have suggestions on what Mariah should do while the quarantine situation is going on due to the Corona pandemic. But honestly we do not know what she has been up to during this time besides the videos she has posted here, and there. As we speak she can be creating some new material, or finishing some up music that she put aside for other obligations or not feeling inspired at the time. I am sure that she is working on a couple of things to satisfy all the different people who make up her fan base. Only time will tell, all we can do is wait and see the outcome. Everyone be blessed, and stay safe.

Fan favourites concert "no April Fool's joke" (93,504) by T from USA
This would be a perfect year for that "album cuts/fan favourites" concert she always talks about. But instead of taking it on the road and having to deal with critics writing about vocals or empty seats, she could do it in the privacy and intimacy of her recording booth and upload it to YouTube. It would be a way to still do something during the year of lockdown, and at the same time build good will for many years to come.

Amen Andrew. By the way, now that most of their schedules and concerts have been or will be cancelled, I wish Mariah could focus on connecting again with her musicality, with the art of singing live from her home and crafting music. Now that she won't be doing those boring residencies singing Hero and her number ones over and over again with tired vocals, only for the contracts and the money involved, I would love her to bless us with more moments like the recent ABMB performance. She can sing In her studio, do some acoustic performances taking her time, feeling comfortable and uploading the one she thinks Is the best, without all the pressure of being on a stage. Sing just for the love Of singing and gifting her fans, and proving the main publicado that she still got it, just as she did last Sunday.

Camon, she has a huge catalogue, and songs she only sang one or twice or even none. Vanishing, Alone In Love, All In Your Mind, If It's Over, The Wind, Music Box, Now That I Know, I Am Free, Looking In, Open Arms, Babydoll, The Roof, Close My Eyes... Go for the ones you hardly ever sing, Mariah.

Yes indeed. His songs are so classic, impactful, memorable. Just amazing. And it's great that he retired and just lived life, for a few decades, at least two. I've been wanting to see his documentary, Still Bill, from a few years ago, now I will have to look for it.

Re: When I Saw You - romantic comedy thriller movie (93,498) (93,501) by Bill from the UK
Side Effects: Mariah is a pharmacist who accidentally prescribes the wrong medication and then has to deal with the consequences. Court room drama.

Prisoner: Mariah has been jailed and is now on death row following the critical reception to Glitter, and this is about her struggle adjusting to life behind bars and one fan's attempt to free her.

I Am Free: The sequel to Prisoner, where Mariah and her saviour fan embark upon a new life, and all the trials and tribulations that await this regular odd couple. Rom com.

And You Don't Remember: An amnesiac Mariah navigates a confusing world after falling from a cliff and losing her memory. Drama.

Underneath the Stars: Whilst stargazing with her beau, Mariah is abducted by aliens and the film follows her and her boyfriend's attempts to outwit the aliens and return safely to earth. Sci fi.

The Beautiful Ones: Mariah enters a beauty pageant and soon becomes aware of all the back stabbing and nastiness involved. She tries to turn the contest to be about personality and not looks. Comedy.

Joy Ride: Mariah features in a spin off to the Fast and the Furious franchise and puts the pedal to the metal in this high speed andrenalin rush. Action/adventure.

But When I Saw You as a horror featuring Mariah wielding a saw is just hilarious.

How I love Bill Withers. Last year I bought three Cd's because I always loved "Just the two of us" and the phenomenel "Ain't no sunshine". "Lovley day" is so wonderful too. Makes you feel good. I also love "Grandma's hands", Blackstreet did a very good sample with "No diggity", but the original song is pure genius. "Use me", "Who is he", "Harlem", "Hello like before" and "I want to spend the night" are my other favourites. RIP Bill Withers, thank you for real music with heart and soul. Your music will stay forever.

Twister was the nick name of Mariah's stylist Tonya Twist, who killed herself. The song Twister was in memory of her. People drew the parallel to Mariah after her supposed suicide attempt after the critical reception to Glitter.

When I Saw You - romantic comedy thriller movie (93,498) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
If Mariah could act in her own movie using titles from all her songs, what would it be? I would say When I Saw You would be perfect as romantic comedy thriller type of movie, with the poster of Mariah holding a saw. And the tagline "I will hunt you down". The plot of the movie would be Mariah taking revenge on her cheating husband/boyfriend using a saw as a weapon.

I don't know if you read this messageboard but I'm thinking you probably do, and I just wanted to congratulate you on the book, it was my first confinement reading (don't know the English word), and I loved it. Found it very interesting, I had never really realised Mariah talked so much about nostalgia, all the parallels you draw with opera divas etc. (I could go on a tangent about it but not here as I'd rather do it in French.) It made me love and feel for Mariah even more. It's too bad it came out with this agenda, all bookshops now closed, but I hope you're still satisfied with the press coverage. I saw France Inter talked in a very good way about it. There's only one tiny detail which I found inaccurate, at one point you mentioned Twister was Mariah talking in the third person about herself, like she does in Looking In, but I read somewhere that in Twister she was actually writing about her stylist who had just committed suicide. But maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, congratulations, found it stellar and I'm going to make my non lamb friends buy it as soon as the confinement is over, it will save me lots of time trying to explain why Mariah is so great and iconic, you do it way better than I ever could.

What a loss. What an amazing storyteller, singer, songwriter. A lovely Day is a perfect little ditty. I would love to know what his most recent songs were, if any. He has so many classic compositions.

Re: Article: Mariah warns her staff against April Fool's Day pranks (93,492) (93,494) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Perfectly written. Every single word.

"As this example shows, mega mega rich people telling the very not wealthy to donate money when they alone could sort out a huge chunk of the problem is the contradiction. And actually quite an obscene one."

That ist so true. I do believe when this pandemic will end, the world won't be the same. And the people who are normal will think twice for what they spend their money. (Exlude expensive concert tickets and so on.) The new 20ies are definitily not golden at all. But people will realize that this superficial, highspeed life is the wrong way and not healthy.

I agree that it is quite hypocritical of celebs to urge their fans (99% of which are much poorer than they are) to donate when they can contribute more to get to the goal faster. However, I also believe in using their considerable clout to influence their followers for good. If anything, at least that raises awareness at the very least. Now if that awareness actually translates to donations is a whole other story.

This practice would be slightly less obscene if they tweaked it a bit. I remember John Cena's fundraising initiative to help the first responders during the California wildfires last year. He did encourage everyone to donate, but to kick things off, he started by donating half a million dollars for the cause and that on top of that donation, he challenged his potential donors that he was going to match whatever money they can raise and add it to the total donations. He even went as far as using his scheduled Entertainment Tonight co-hosting stint to announce it. Still not as good as dropping a ton of money himself without asking his supporters for any help, but definitely much more encouraging and less cringeworthy than what most celebs do.

Re: Article: Mariah warns her staff against April Fool's Day pranks (93,491) (93,492) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
JK Rowling is a great example. But this goes to the heart of what it is to be woke and the total and utter failure of logic that props up left-wing dogma. "We love everyone," Mariah will say often. And most people here would gladly regurgitate it. Yet, you cannot love everyone. This outlook determines that if you are denying someone something you are a "hater". But you cannot give everyone everything they want. Therein lies the rub (to quote another famous British writer).

So champagne socialists will often champion any cause which signals that they would not deny someone of, or critically question someone on, something by which they identify in a moral way. But it almost always ends up in contradictions which can easily be pointed out. And when the argument is almost certainly lost, the only way they or their supporters can shut that down is to shout "hater", attempt to de-platform and/or throw a milkshake in the face.

As this example shows, mega mega rich people telling the very not wealthy to donate money when they alone could sort out a huge chunk of the problem is the contradiction. And actually quite an obscene one.

Look at the Make Poverty History concerts in Hyde Park and elsewhere in 2005 (good performance by Mariah, btw). Every star under the Sun hopped on the bandwagon whilst everyone watching knew it was most pointless [censored] exercise ever but, whatever, free concert to watch. Virtues were signalled, everyone sang Hey Jude for the umpteenth time (despite the lyrics having no relevance to anything) and then went home to sleep. All the artists that day could have pledged millions, hundreds and hundreds of millions. Did they? Did they [censored]. They told *you* to give up what little disposable income *you* have whilst their back catalogue sales went through the roof and their royalty payments enjoyed a massive spike.

Don't get me wrong, I think the iHeart thing was a lovely idea and Mariah did very well (the BSB skit was embarrassing pap, be honest). And people highlighting other people's desperation can be a good thing.

But the contradictions still exist and they cannot be explained away. People on normal incomes get by. People on mega incomes walk by. So, Mariah would do well to stop virtue signalling as would most celebrities. The hypocrisy is just infuriating sometimes.

Re: Article: Mariah warns her staff against April Fool's Day pranks (93,490) (93,491) by Bill from the UK
I'm of the "they earned it, they decide how to spend it" camp. If Mariah and others want a life of luxury over donating it all, that's their prerogative. But I agree, don't then tell people like you and me to donate. It reminds me of J K Rowling, the epitome of a champagne socialist, telling everyone to take in refugees, back when that was a celebrity's flavour of the month (before Greta and climate change appeared), from one of her many multi-roomed mansions. All the while not opening her doors to a single one of them. It's the old adage, practice what you preach, isn't it.

Article: Mariah warns her staff against April Fool's Day pranks (93,490) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
"[Mariah] also urged her fans to 'please support Feeding America and 1strcf by donating to these incredible causes'."

Instead of the rich and famous preaching platitudes from their pedestals, why don't they all donate, say, £10million to these causes? It would hardly even dent their bank accounts and would, in all actuality, lead to a lot of money being raised. Sure, things like the iHeart broadcast raised $8milliion. But $8million is pittance compared to the wealth that is being sat on by the very people who preach to the poor to put their hand in their left pocket and transfer the coins to the right one, as if that ever helped anything.

Elton John and Mariah Carey have a combined net worth of almost US$1billion. Add in all the other rich and famous people in the Western World, including sports stars and you are talking the equivalent of the nominal GDP of a country. There is enormous wealth that could be transferred easily that would make massive difference, save hundreds of thousands of lives, if not millions, and help to get this over with much faster so that the people who do survive aren't unemployed and homeless.

You may say that it's their money and they should do what they want with it, free from reproach. And I am very much normally inclined that way: "You earned it? You do what you want with it." But please don't tell the little people to donate while the interest in your bank account is going up faster than the number of deaths. It just obscene.
