Re: Lizzo (92,806) (92,810) by Licia from USA
Where did this come from? Why does she need to get the sleeve? I forgot most of y'all here don't enjoy fat people. Lol.

I Had A Vision Of Love (92,809) by Bobby A from United States
I may have figured out what is going happen to coincide with the book release. On MC's debut, she collaborated with one songwriter or producer. So, she said recently that she had a couple of men who she wanted to collaborate with. Maybe she has her eye on those singer-songwriters/producers who can capture the essence of Mariah Carey the album. Along with a remastered CD and vinyl re-release, we will get six new songs and the songs that didn't make the album to make a double album in September. Maybe she will do I Had A Vision Of Love: Up Close and Personal Tour at small historic venues like the Angel's Advocate Tour. Only time will tell what will happen, but I don't feel we are going to get a new album this year. Being the perfectionist she is, there is not enough time for her to record an album and release this year.

Mariah's voice (92,808) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I do agree that her current voice isn't good. During her Christmas concerts she couldn't hit a single high note, everything was lipped accept lower notes.

But do you guys remember her voice just a year ago, around the time she recieved the Billboard Icon Award? Suddenly she hit high notes an seemed so energetic on stage, she had fun. Was she manic?

Must Mariah be in a really happy place to have the confidence to hit those high notes, or are they gone forever?

Lol, has it really got so bad that we now praise her speaking voice? Heavens to Betsy.

Honestly, even though she's overweight, her face is still very pretty. I'm sure she'll get the sleeve and be thin in a few years.

Vocal decline (92,805) by Dove from United States
I don't think it would be for the fans. It's more for people who watch performances like this one and write stories and air it in the news that she can't sing anymore.

I haven't heard anyone call her crazy since she said she was bipolar. Nobody talks about Wendy Williams or Sharon Osbourne's botox and plastic surgery because they talk about it first. If they do, it doesn't matter because it's already out there. They're not ashamed of it so it can't be used to shame them.

I remember MC did address it in a special for E. She went to a doctor about her nodules but that was a long time ago and people probably don't remember. It was around The Emancipation of Mimi. She was wearing a plaid skirt, a pink or yellow shirt, and a sweater around her shoulders - preppy style.

I personally don't care because I know she can still deliver but maybe it would be beneficial if she addressed it and just explained that her voice is fragile and sometimes doesn't cooperate. Or whatever the issue is. I think the general public would be more compassionate if they knew what was going on.

Regarding touring, if she's making money and still likes doing it then she should keep doing it. I already saw her a few times so the selfish me wants her to stop and get working on some new music but ultimately it's about what's most beneficial to her.

Current MC (92,803) by Nikki from usa
She's wrapping up her residency all this month in Vegas. She's heading out to Hawaii for an arena concert in March. Just one. I'm not sure what that's about. I'm assuming she's adding more dates for her tour or using it as a jumping point to segue into something else.

Everyone's aware of what she was doing in December. She took some R&R in January. She went to that movie premiere and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Then, had to gear up for her last month of The Butterfly Returns. I haven't heard any specific news of what she's doing after Hawaii.

Re: I Had a Vision of Love (92,784) (92,802) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
If Mariah still wants to release an album or two then she should go for it. But touring should probably stop. I would miss being able to go hear Mariah songs super loud in an arena and have a party but I can take it on the chin. You are correct that there are now more bad performances than good ones and that's an embarrassing shame. Her voice is getting even worse. I fail to see how she can take any pleasure in singing when it looks like she is trying to swallow gravel between bursts of "eh". Think back to when you thought Mariah's voice had slightly declined. For me it would be Charmbracelet (when I realistically longed for Butterfly voice) or then again at Memoirs (when realistically I longed for TEOM voice). Relatively speaking she sounds brilliant in both of those eras compared to now. Now I long for Memoirs voice. Expectations and standards fall away each year. It's getting worse.

Re: When Christmas Comes (92,745) (92,801) by Nikki from usa
Labels have nothing to do with YouTube or their algorithms. They attempt to show you things based off your history or things the program will think you might like based off what you watch. Which can be really far off the mark at times.

Just put her Make It Happen performance from MSG 1995 on the big screens. Back when she ran drills on stage, I miss that.

The fans decline (92,797) by Nikki from usa
If Mariah needs to explain to people that she's pushing 50 and not 20 anymore than maybe some folks need to be hit with a stupid stick. There are rock stars who do a lifetime of hard core drugs while drinking gin and tequila like water who don't have half of Mariah's vocal issues. So, trying to blame everything on wine or the fact she entered a store selling pot once is beyond reaching. Perhaps the fans could be a bit more honest about the fact they've checked out. Her voice has always been inconsistent. She has gone over it. You not liking the answers isn't the same thing. Mariah will continue to have a career even if it isn't at the top of the charts. Nobody is on top forever. This new generation doesn't know the 20 year old Mariah. All they care about is a good beat. She's older and needs a different platform if that's what she wants to go after. Mariah doesn't need to retire. She doesn't need all of her records broken, so you don't feel "anxious" if someone's about to break one. If you don't like her live than don't buy a ticket. If you've checked out on Mariah than admit it to yourself and move on.

Yes, she slayed those. Even her tone was there. Her talking voice sounded healthy too.

My Valentine (92,795) by Dove from United States
I just watched My Valentine on Hulu. "A pop singer's artistic identity is stolen by her ex-boyfriend/manager and shamelessly pasted onto his new girlfriend/protege." It's like Hulu's version of Black Mirror. Kinda Twilight Zone meets Lifetime. Anyway, I guess it's supposed to be about the YouTubers Poppy and Mars Argo but it reminded me of Mariah, especially with all the bisexual lighting. The fans from "the board" reminded me of us lol.

The problem is her vocal decline started inexplicably in 98. Not 20 years into her career like ya'll keep saying.

Re: Jessica Simpson (92,789) (92,793) by Dove from United States
I agree with you. When she was popular during Newlyweds I bought all of her albums and DVD's - I really wanted to like them, because I liked her, but I just didn't - except for a few songs.

At first in the book she goes on and on about Nick so I thought, "What the heck, is she still in love with the guy?" because she was only saying nice (magical) things but then she got to the part where their marriage fell apart and that was really honest. She even admitted that she was in love with Jonny Knoxville during the last season of Newlyweds. Then a few more things happened then she got to the part where she met Eric. I was surprised she admitted that she "did the deed" with Eric the first time they met. When she talks about her relationship with Eric, it seems like a more grown up relationship, like they actually talk about things and he respects her opinion. The love seems different. It seems like he really loves her for her, flaws and all. I mean he must if she can openly talk about all this stuff in the book while still married to him. It must be a secure relationship if he doesn't feel threatened or jealous by her past.

I don't think Mariah's book is going to be this honest. it's not her brand. She won't even admit her age. When she was on Andy Cohen he asked her about Jeter and she said, "He just got married, why are we still talking about this?" So I don't think we're getting any stories about her important relationships. I know she sees it as being respectful but a biography is supposed to talk about all the significant things that happened in your life. I mean I'll still read it but I'm not expecting anything we don't already know.

Jessica Simpson (92,789) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
She is definitely not the best singer, but she has always managed to maintain a likable personality and comes across as very honest. Haven't listened to her memoir yet, but from the excerpts that have been shown in her interview with ET, she really wasn't afraid to get into the dark details of her failed first marriage, her weight struggles, her relationships post-divorce, her substance abuse, and her experience with the pressures of being in the industry. We have to remember that this sweet, pretty woman came out at a time when people didn't need another teen pop princess on the scene (Britney and Christina were already around) and Mariah was about to leave her label then. Tommy was desperate to find any big-voiced girl who can fill the void. Jessica is smarter than many give her credit for. She knew exactly how to use her "dumb blonde" persona to her advantage, surrounded herself with the right people and managed to build and grow an empire of her own while she was going through her career, personal and relationship issues. The only album I own of her is her post-divorce album A Public Affair, which wasn't well-received but to me is still a fun listen because it strikes a good balance between pop and country music (her voice and over-emotive singing style suits the latter better). I think she is quite inspirational and has remained pretty humble all throughout her life in the spotlight. Good for her. I'll be floored if Mariah will turn out to be as candid in her memoir as Jessica was.

Re: Vocal decline (92,787) (92,788) by Norman from USA
I honestly believe it would be humanizing for her to do so. I mean, since she's known for her vocal ability, it's the elephant in the room, you know?

She can talk about her writing until she's blue in the face, but she wasn't sold to the general public for her writing skills: it was 100% her vocals. I'm not saying it's a 100 fair - she's talked about her writing from the very beginning, but her marketing was always about her voice.

I know this has been said before, but one can't help but think of Julie Andrews as a fair comparison. She came clean about her vocal issues and people moved on. She's still revered for her legendary voice decades after her last performance.

Mariah's vocals aren't as damaged as Julie's, but she would really do herself a favor by addressing it. If she did that and wrote and produced for other artists, I think she could shift the convo some.

Releasing an album after that would probably be a redemptive arc in her story. It's not that she is obligated to do so, it's simply that it would be a good move.

As fans, we know that Mariah is so much more than just her vocal ability. Personally, her lyrics have meant a great deal throughout my life. If she chooses, I know she has a lot more to deliver to the music world. I really liked Caution a lot, and I think it's a good direction for her. With her memoirs coming out this year, and with 30th anniversary of her debut album creeping up, I'd say it's a perfect time to adress it.

Whatever she does, I look forward to seeing good things from her.

Vocal decline (92,787) by Dove from United States
I don't get why it's so important to some people that she address her vocal decline. I don't care about that at all. She already gave us years of flawless vocals, anything else she gives is a bonus for me. Do we really expect people to sing as well as they did when they were 20 forever? Vocal decline is expected. Why do we have to talk about it?

I must say this is a very incredible post. But I think songwriting and creating music is Mariah's outlet so I'm sure we are bound to have another era or 2 before eh over lol.
