Re: The problem with Mariah (92,783) (92,785) by Aliya from Canada
I think Mariah should continue her singing in her career and have a positive outlook about what's to come in the future. Yes, her voice is not what it used to be, nothing lasts forever, but she still makes amazing music that I will always love. Caution may not have been her best work vocally, but it was still beautiful and stayed true to her sound and everything she is about. No matter what, she is way too cool to stop making music. There is just something about her music that puts her that makes her stand out to me more than any artist. A signature sound that is so her, despite some vocal deterioration. She has so much experience and is an expert at creating masterpieces of music. Plus, not many artists on the radio can sing at all.

I Had a Vision of Love (92,784) by Bill from the UK
I've been thinking about the memoir. I've seen it written here by fans on several occasions that they would like her to address the vocal decline. There are two schools of thought around the cause: entirely self-inflicted through alcohol, marijuana and other substance abuse/over indulgence, or an entirely unavoidable and uncontrollable natural decline caused through years upon years of straining her voice through bad/unwise technique and having to live up to the expectation to sing in the manner that made her so famous.

My question to you is, let's say Mariah did address this issue, came clean once and for all, and with the statement, announced her retirement from singing. How would you feel about it? Would you feel relieved, happy for her bravery, annoyed, cheated, heartbroken? Imagine the relief it would give her, to end the charade and focus on songwriting and raising her children. Her career of 30 years will never be matched by anybody. The legacy she would leave would be something that would be referenced for generations after we have all left this world. Her accolades, awards, recognitions, and citations would never be challenged. She has had an amazing career.

The title of the memoir is what got me thinking about this. It would be like the circle has closed. The "vision of love" was her career, she had it, and (as per the last line of the song), it has now gone away. It would be an incredibly poignant and respectable exit from an industry that she has forever changed and dominated since her debut. Her back catalogue is a treasure trove of wonderful music, beautifully composed and put together with intricate, intelligent song writing. I think it would be an incredibly sad, but sincere and perfect end to her career.

It's either that, or more years of her in a sparkly leotard atop a chaise lounge barking out "eh".

Hmmm. I don't think "slay" is the right adjective here. But Scott's completely right, the voice isn't there and the constant touring only highlights that she cannot replicate her work live without an awful lot of smoke and mirrors these days. She's now done far more ropey performances than good ones. Part of me thinks she should just hang up the jewel encrusted malfunctioning ear piece and be done with it. Sit back, raise the children, write songs for other people, and watch the dollars hit the bank account every month.

Re: New music (92,775) (92,782) by Bill from the UK
Haha, he'd have retired by the time they collaborate. I don't see what the appeal is with him to be honest.

That's so true. I'm kind of wondering if less concerts and touring over the years would have preserved the strength of her voice. The last time I was very impressed with her voice, studio album wise, was Supernatural and When Christmas Comes.

The real problem with MC is that her career has never been the same since she parted ways with Benny Medina. He has that magic touch for managing artists. Look at J Lo for example. He has connections in the music industry that is unparalleled to other managers. The only other manager that comes close to his expertise and connections is Scooter Braun. I really think Roc Nation and Melissa did a great job rolling out Caution and getting AIWFCIY to number #1, but more work has to be done to make sure MC is connected to the right producers and songwriters and promotional spots and media for the next era. Look at Summer Walker, Hasley, Camila Cabello, Ella Mai for example. They are the women in music industry selling records and getting airplay right now. I would love for The Smeezingtons and Dev Hynes to write a couple of hits for MC for the next album.

Jessica Simpson's book (92,779) by Dove from United States
I just finished listening to it and I really enjoyed it. She's so open. At the end of the audiobook she includes some new songs and her voice doesn't sound as annoying or sexualized like on her Christmas songs. I actually liked them. I'm glad Jessica is doing well and it was nice to catch up with her. I felt like I knew her from Newlyweds.

I hope Mariah's book has an audiobook version read by her too. I really enjoy her speaking voice.

I'm sure that Mariah is signing all those copies of AIWFC CD.

Re: The problem with Mariah (92,764) (92,777) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
The issue isnt just the weakness in her voice it is also how her voice *continues* to deteriorate. Performances last year were just plain awful and far less skilled than the previous year. I'll Be There is now an impossibility and whistles lipped so much you have to wonder if that ability has disappeared as well.

She can when well-rested and rehearsed. She slayed all of the snippets of fan favorites she sang during the Caution World Tour. Here's a link off her singing snippets of Slipping Away and Music Box live and slaying.

Blasphemy. We all want Mariah to work with Bruno. I've been begging for a Mariah/Bruno collaboration for years. A self-professed music journalist said a few months ago on Twitter that an artist (she's hinted the artist was Bruno) was working on a soundtrack and that Mariah was going to be featured on it and now Bruno has confirmed he's working on music for Disney.

Missing in action (92,774) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
The reason that MC has been missing in action I believe that she is working on her memoir, as well as preparing for her Vegas return, on top of that she is probably getting her down time, and enjoying time with her children. Because I think that she has some other things in store that we are not privy to as of yet.

Re: New music (92,771) (92,773) by Bill from the UK
Ric Wake is British and produced There's Got to Be a Way, Someday, All In Your Mind and Prisoner from the debut album. He also co-wrote TGTBAW with Mariah, and three other songs at the time, but only the one made it onto the album. Steve Mac also produced the Westlife version of Against All Odds. There's probably others. But you're right, she predominantly sticks with US producers.

Re: New music (92,770) (92,772) by Bill from the UK
I loved #1s, especially the UK getting DYKWYGT as a bonus track. By better, I mean either a different, more meaningful song selection (not the same old hits we get on every compilation), and more than 4 and a half new songs.

Re: New music (92,767) (92,771) by Dennis from Miami, FL
Has she ever worked with a British or a Swedish producer? I don't remember any instance. Maybe there was a remix I don't remember? I am pretty sure she only has worked with US producers so far.

Bill you didn't like #1's? I used to love it. Loved all the new songs and hearing the rest backwards in time.

She's been dealing with her little court case. She also has Vegas shows coming up doesn't she?

Re: New music (92,763) (92,767) by Bobby A from United States
She has been really quiet this month. I know she has been in the studio this month. Only time will tell the truth. MC usually collaborates with hottest producers and songwriters at the moment. So, maybe it will be London On Da Track, Poo Bear, Ed Sherran, Noah "40" Shebib, Drake, Savan Kotecha, Ilya, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, Chris Brown and Disclosure. Now, that list would definitely bring in some hits. I would love to hear MC's voice over a Chris Brown or Ryan Tedder melody.

Re: New music (92,763) (92,765) by Bill from the UK
I hope there is some sort of tie in with the release of the memoirs. Either an anniversary edition of the debut, or a compilation album (with new material accompanying classic hits, like a better version of #1s).

The problem with Mariah (92,764) by Scott from Uk
The problem with MC is simple. I’m a massive fan but the problem is she can’t back up the reputation and legacy now with a stunning live performance. Her voice is redundant and weak. How much credibility and new fans would she gain if she were able to pull off decent live vocals? Let’s hope she talks about the vocal deterioration in the memoirs.

New music (92,763) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Unless M has been in the studio under the radar, I do not think we should expect a new album this year. I believe that M is probably putting ideas together as far as collaborators and maybe trying to figure out what direction she would like to explore this era. But then again I could be wrong and M might be 4-6 songs into a new album, but time will tell. For me as long as she gives us another quality album I will be satisfied.

Jessica was a pretty-dumb-girl. One hit in Europe and haunted for life because she thinks tuna is chicken. We don't know her.

Khalid and Disclosure (92,761) by Bobby A from United States
Khalid just dropped another banger with Disclosure called Know Your Worth. If MC doesn't work with these two hitmakers this year, she is really missing out. These guys should be bigger than what they are.
