This video is the sweetest tribute ever. I'm a little teary-eyed if I'm honest. This is respect, this is appreciation. Special kudos to Ariana for not giving up on Mariah even when Mariah was understandably not so kind to her when she first arrived on the scene. Our girl is back in everyone's good graces. Is it me or did Ariana get more screen time than everyone else in the video? It really wouldn't be a stretch to expect a collab at this point.

I agree. Ellen And Mariah have been friends over the years. I do think Ellen like Oprah try to call Mimi on her bs sometimes. Mimi has avoided those shows for the most part, since Stella and "rentboy" came on board.

Then you must not be a real lamb. Now tell me you didn't notice when Mariah's mother gave her a: "Don't try it with me up here bitch look" when they were together on stage singing "O Come All Ye Faithful". Or that time when Ellen tried to turn Mariah into a full blown lesbian. Is it just me and "we are the lambily" the only ones who notice these very important and shady moments towards Mariah?

We must not have watched the same interview because I don't recall Ellen trying to force Mariah to drink. She was hoping she was going to drink it, but there was no force. Lol.

You're not getting it. What I was saying was that despite the fact her voice has changed, no one is disrespecting her because of that, because it happens. Caution was great because she sings now in a comfortable range and toned down the acrobatics that she can't replicate live. This is a good thing and the right way forward for her. The best thing she did recently was Unforgettable and that was sung in her current vocal with no gimmicks and flourishes, and it sounded brilliant and the song was great.

Yes you are, we all know her voice is not th same yet lambs mention it every day in Twitter, Instagram and occasionally on this board. She was a superhuman during the 90s, now she has levelled down to everyone's level. 2019 proved to me that Mariah is still one of the greatest singers of today.
I and probably lost [sic] of other people didn't become a lamb due to her 90s vocals so it doesn't really matter. Nobody says anything about these male legends (who btw sell arenas) who sound worse than Mariah did in Rockefeller. As Mariah herself said the rules are different for her. It's simple when you get older, your voice change.

When are you back at school? Lol, joking. No one is disrespecting Mariah from any of the posts I've read. But don't be dillusional. A fact is a fact and Mariah's voice was brilliant in the 90s and is not on par currently due to her own lifestyle choices and general aging.

The song went to #1 due to Mariah's new professional team and some amazing strategy. The fact that she re-released the album meant so much. The general public loves the song period. Her 1994 voice had nothing to do with it. Mariah sung the song on a late night show a few days ago and it already has 1+ million views. I get that many of you love Mariah's music/vocals from the 90s, but the disrespect towards her after that must stop. Most of my fave vocal moments/fave songs are from after the 90s. Mariah most successful song (aside from Christmas music) is from 2005. As someone mentioned it earlier it's about the song and the support you get from the industry. I'm gonna write another post tonight on all of the things in the way of a #1 for Mariah unless she works with the hottest artists in the industry.

Never been a huge fan of Ellen, she does give back a lot which I respect. But her attitude towards Mariah all this years make me so mad. Watch a viral tweet about how Mariah ended Ellen. 1.7 million people watched this one. Watch also another viral tweet when Ellen tried to force Mariah to drink alcohol in order for her to know whether or not she is pregnant. She had miscarriage. People are mad.

"Some don't seem to understand the magnitude of AIWFCIY hitting #1, this is not your ordinary number one, this is an undeniable #1 that even those who don't like Mariah can't resist. And we are witnessing history in the making." Yes, you articulated my point better than me. The magnitude and importance of AIWFCIY hitting number 1 can't be overstated.
I don't have expectations of Mariah hitting number 1 again. For some reason my post wasn't posted in it's entirety so it may appear I do have those expectstions. I was totally joking about Mariah collaborating with a K Pop artist. Thankfully MusicJfan got the sarcasm. With that said Adam, my goodness have ye little faith? It is certainly possible that Mariah can hit number 1 again. I still don't think we have seen the best of her yet.

Never say never, Adam. I remember this exact conversation happening in 2002 when many of you didn't think Mariah would ever be on top again after Glitter. A lot of people didn't think a holiday song could hit the top spot, either. Don't play this off as a small feat. This doesn't happen everyday. The last time a holiday song smashed the top spot was in the 1950's and that was an animation. Her 1994 voice? What about her 1996 voice? How do you know another old song won't get popular in a movie and catch on? Obsessed got back on the charts from some random Tik Tok challenge. What's wrong with her current voice? The hottest song out right now is Dance Monkey and that girl's voice is weird. You don't think Touch My Body became a #1 due to the great vocals, do you? It's about the song and getting a good ear worm. You may obsess over the past, but the current generation knows nothing about that and have proven they're not that picky over vocals. Taylor Swift is doing fine. I wouldn't ever count Mariah out, but she has to be willing.

New Christmas video (91,909)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|

Remember when Mariah came out with Fantasy? It was a mix of dance, pop, r&b, hip-hop, and adult contemporary. It appealed to so many genres at one time. While watching Mariah's new music video for the first time, I thought she mixed a Target, Old Navy, and Kohl's commercial together with a hundred Katy Perry's in the background. It was a lot of extra, but it was entertaining. I loved her hair and makeup in the last scene the most.

I love positive comments about more #1's. But I think we should just focus on the fact she has 19 #1 songs, and all of the records she has broken with this song and what she has done to achieve this. It really shouldn't matter that the Beatles have 20, because she has the most for any solo artist. 29 years in the biz. This is amazing and she is the best female artist in the music industry. Rihanna who has 14, will more than likely have a 15th with her new album and that is fine. I think if she was to get all the way to 18 then we should be nervous lol. But I think Mariah wouldn't even care if it was Rihanna who broke her record lol which will not happen anytime soon. Peace love and happy 19th number 1.

Walter was so flip floppy and passive aggressive throughout the whole article. He gets the credit he deserves from the label and from Mariah. He gets paid and Mimi owes him nothing else. She does the continuous annual promotion of the song, he just sits back and wants her limelight which he will never get and does not deserve. Now the numbskulls do need to just ignore him, but without that he wouldn't have any attention. Let him go out and perform the song and generate interviews for himself if he wants attention.

Another #1 (91,906)
by Dove from United States

I believe she can have more number 1 hits with the right marketing. Her new songs are just as good as her older songs the difference is that they're not mainstream and not everyone listens to R&B just like not everybody listens to country. I played AIWFCIY videos at the holiday parties I went to and people were saying negative things about her which makes me think that's the common perception about her among the general public. I played the Tokyo Dome one and people were asking who it was and saying that she was so good. I told them "Mariah Carey" and some comments were, "Have you seen her now? She's so lazy she doesn't even walk. She has people carrying her around on stage and you can tell that they're struggling." And, "She can't even sing anymore, she always lipsyncs." Like she's a laughing stock. I think it has to do with how she's presented in the media. TMZ are usually making fun of her like she's a joke. Wendy Williams too. Anyone else who has achieved what she has achieved would be treated with more respect.
Then at work I was playing her songs and my coworker rolled her eyes and said, "She's so extra." I was playing Heavenly (No Ways Tired/Can't Give Up Now) because I love how her voice sounds on that song. She rolled her eyes during the super high whistles, which to me sound heavenly, but people are so programmed to hate her that they prefer to listen to people who can't even sing well.
Anyway, I would be super satisfied if she tied The Beatles at 20. They're the greatest of all time, and so is she, so it would be super appropriate if they were both at the top IMO.

Bill you read my mind. Your wish list matches mine haha. I would love a jazz album and her redoing her earlier work in the arrangements she originally wanted. I’m still waiting for her to release that Beautiful dance recording she sampled on a interview she did for the fans before she broke her arm. It was very David Morales like. Christmas in NY sounded beautiful and should be a full song. A 4th Christmas album would be welcomed by me. Still waiting for Hypnotize and Weakness of the Body from her demo cassette. She has a treasure trove of material that’s begging to be released.

New AIWFCIY video and behind the scenes (91,902)
by Dove from United States
| |
|

I love the glittery red dress scenes the most too. In the part with the angel wings I kind of wish she was wearing a white angelic dress. I wish there were more scenes of the kids dancing. I don't love the red jumpsuit but I like it more in the behind the scenes footage. Even though the video is beautiful and the backgrounds are amazing in the official new video; I like how Mariah looks in the behind the scenes footage more. I think it's because it's more candid and her facial expressions look more natural. I don't love when she lipsyncs because it doesn't look natural. In any video. And I don't love the technique where they slow down the film. Other than those little things I love it.
I forgot to mention that the glittery nutcracker outfit look 100 times better with the black leggings IMO. Those scenes are my second favorite.
I just watched it again a few times and I really do love it even though it may have looked like didn't from my last few posts since I was nitpicking. The part at the beginning where she's standing in the storefront (with the magic all around her) and the little girl is looking at her, I'd like that as a cardboard cutout for my holiday display.

I agree we should celebrate the new #1 record. However I disagree that MC will have another #1 record again. Mariah became #1 again because of her 1994 voice and producing team. Those golden years are far far away. I don’t think it’s healthy to have these unrealistic expectations that she will be on top again. We should enjoy her output for what it is - quality music from a quality artist. The industry today is very different and Mariah is just trying to stay afloat.

I completely agree with you. This is the most important #1 Mariah's had, her 16-week record was broken, but she has set some new and more significant ones. Some don't seem to understand the magnitude of "AIWFCIY" hitting #1, this is not your ordinary number one, this is an undeniable #1 that even those who don't like Mariah can't resist. And we are witnessing history in the making.
Mariah is being coherent and gracious on her interviews, the diva attitude is basically gone. They finally invested in a decent video for one of her songs. Let's enjoy the moment.
As for Walter, at this point credits have been given and they're on CD inlays, he's getting paid, but he has to understand that he doesn't sing the damn song. He seems to have "AIWFCIY" vividly emblazoned not only in his wallet but also in his mind, especially at Christmas time.
