The Star live (91,457) by enwar00 from usa
Is it just me or is this live version of The Star by far better than the studio version?

Re: BOTH (91,452) (91,456) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
You're correct. Maybe because I honestly almost think of her version as the original. I love the original, but mama owned "I'll be there". No shade to Jackson 5 or MJ.

I forgot to add this comment with earlier post. For some reason on my phone the website's discography section is not accessible. Websites and their functions are formatted differently on phones.

Re: Slipping Away (91,453) (91,454) by Bobby A from United States
Bill, I love your story about Slipping Away. It is one of the best B-sides singles ever. I always wondered why it never made the album. Maybe because Tommy felt it was too telling of how their marriage was falling apart. If it was put on the album, it would have hurt the sales of the album. I really have been revisiting MC's body of work since I am on this MC vinyl high right now. This woman has a hugely impressive body of work. I hang on to every note and lyric when I listen an MC song. You're Mine made me tear up last month when I heard it in a convenience store. I just heard those low notes and the technical aspects in such a different way from the store's speaker. If you listen to every song she has released, you can tell she doesn't receive enough credit for being an innovator and awesome technical vocalist. Pink' s latest album shows some MC's vocal and technical influence. Oh well, I am rambling now. Only Lambs know and can appreciate gems like Slipping Away, Bliss, Everything Fades Away, Yours, My Saving Grace, It's A Wrap, Looking In, For The Record, The Beautiful Ones, The Wind, Faded, With You, and so on. Can you imagine MC's first box set when it is released one day? It is going to be a Garth Brooks career defining box set.

Re: Slipping Away (91,451) (91,453) by Bill from the UK
Check out this website's very own huge discography section to answer that question. Slipping Away was only ever put out as a B-side to the Always Be My Baby CD single in the US, and the Open Arms CD single in Australia. To the best of my knowledge it never appeared on any European releases of either single, which is massively unfair, nor did it appear on any vinyl releases. I remember knowing about the song during the early days of the Internet, and how I used to read the lyrics online and wonder what it sounded like. Then, in HMV one sunny Saturday afternoon, I saw the Australian import CD of Open Arms, with the blue filtered cover. I almost passed it by, thinking it would mirror the "blue version" of the UK CD single, but when I picked up the little card sleeve and turned it over in my hand, imagine my shock to see that it had Slipping Away and the Spanish version of Open Arms on it. My dirty mitts grabbed it off the shelf so fast, I was like lightning. My heart was pounding and I started to sweat, Had I fallen so deep in my daydreams that I was imagining it? I couldn't believe my luck. I ditched my friends and used the money I had for the cinema to buy the CD (import singles were about £8, which was really expensive back then), and ran all the way home and then listened to it all weekend. Still one of my faves to this day.

Matty, you forgot the first and fairest of them all - I'll Be There. By far and away her best cover in my opinion.

Slipping Away (91,451) by Bobby A from United States
If MC could have added an 11th track to Caution, Slipping Away should have been it. SA fits so nicely in between Stay Long Love Me and Portrait. SA sounds so fresh today. Was this song ever on a ABMB European or Australian 12" or just the CD single? I need to hear low notes on vinyl.

I have always loved this song. There is a live version on a Through the Rain CD single.

Re: BOTH (91,448) (91,449) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Praise praise praise. I didn't think "the lambs" liked this song because no one talks about its amazing strong presence. I am a massive Charmbraclet [sic] fan, and it's absolutely my favourite off the album. That belt, that's whistle, that sunflower/Dave Navarro video. It's her best cover ever. You're so correct; she never squashes the originals thunder, she Mariah-fies it. You know when she covers a song, it's always done with respect and admiration for the original. My top covers of Mimi in a very particular Order are BOTH; Beautiful Ones, IWTKWLI, AAO (featuring Westlife version; ya know, the one that would've been a stone cold global hit if the label even dared to release that version in the US), Without You, Open Arms, One More Try.

Re: BOTH (91,447) (91,448) by Licia from USA
I love BOTH. It's from my favorite album so you know it gets some extra loving from me. Lol I initially wasn't sure whether she could pull it off because the original is just awesome, but she did good. I've always said she picks a lot of great songs to cover and she makes them her own without ruining what was originally created.

Re: BOTH (91,445) (91,447) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I love "BOTH" so much. It shows that Mariah can sing every genre if she wants to. And the highnote at the end, it's genuis. Her background singers can really shine too on this song. I will never forget the moment when I heard "BOTH" live during the "Charmbracelet tour". Everybody was blown away by MC.

Ok, Bill you called me out on this one. I listened to all of them and I see your point now.

BOTH (91,445) by Jeff from USA
I've recently developed a new appreciation for MC's cover of Bringing on the Heartbreak. Not only was it an adventure into rock, but the vocals were pretty amazing.

Y'all also know that I adore MC's background vocalists, and I love that they were able to shine. Check out the video. At the end, they look like they're having a great time. I'm going to be jamming to this for a few days.

Re: Get off auto pilot, Mariah - keep creating (91,434) (91,444) by T from USA
I just don't think fans will be happy if she doesn't push herself the way they are used to seeing her do. She's in a different category for some reason. Just releasing music like Smoky Robinson does won't please her fans. Actually the industry as a whole still compares her to her peak times as well as still putting her in the same standards as the much generation of pop stars. So that's why I think one more full blown era with all stops is all she should do. After that test on the legacy, tour the vast catalogue.

No. Have you not heard Memoirs, specifically IWTKWLI? Me I Am Mariah also has several moments of belting throughout. Make It Look Good, Cry, Heavenly, YDKWTD etc.

Article: "All I Want for Christmas Is You" back to the Hot 100 (91,439) by Travis from USA
Lambs, we have to call on each other to finally get this song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and give Mariah her 19th #1 that she deserves so much after all these years. Do whatever it takes. Get on your Facebook or Twitter platforms and spread awareness. Stream AIWFCIY as much as you can. Buy the song if you haven't already and if you have, well, it won't hurt to buy it again. If us lambs can get #JusticeForGlitter for Mariah after all these years than we certainly can take this song to #1.

Re: AIWFCIY, 19th #1 (91,436) (91,438) by Bobby A from United States
Thank you, Jake. So what are we waiting on to get a streaming campaign started this weekend on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook? We have to get AIWFCIS [sic] to number one this year. At Christmas parties, workplace parties, and at senior citizens events we should campaign for people to stream AIWFCIS during their parties. Does Sirrus XM radio count for streaming too? We need a ridiculous steaming movement this year. I just feel this year is the year.

Is it true DFAU was the last time MC belted in the song?

Re: AIWFCIY, 19th #1 (91,435) (91,436) by jaker20 from US
Robert-Anthony, streaming. It was streaming that powered it to no.3 last year. More people streamed last year than the previous year, and there's more this year. Requesting to radio and downloads are good, but if you want to help out that has most impact, streaming is the key.

Re: AIWFCIY, 19th #1 (91,433) (91,435) by Bobby A from United States
The real question is how did it make it to number #3 last year? Did some Lambs do something special behind the scenes? Or was the radio airplay and downloads so enormous that it made it to number 3? Christmas music is played in retail stores really heavy in December. When it is played in retail stores through a digital service provider, does that count towards radio airplay? Another way we can get AIWFCIS [sic] to number one is to request heavy on top radio stations.

Re: Get off auto pilot, Mariah - keep creating (91,429) (91,434) by Geronimo from USA
I hear what you're saying, Hilton. From a marketing and celebrity perspective I certainly don't expect her to try to reignite that old flame. I'm just thinking about artists like Aretha Franklin, Billie holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and others who I still wish had produced more work - not because they didn't do what they were supposed to do and then some, but because they were so great I just want more. Mariah once said at the heart of it all she is primarily a songwriter. In addition to being a really good songwriter her production instincts are quite astute - note how very few of her albums sound as dated as do many artists' albums from just a few years ago. Here's to hoping she can scale down from the vocal pyrotechnics of her youth and in order to see where her creativity takes her in what should be an extraordinarily mature and creative phase in the life of an artist of her caliber.

So I guess we need to stream from December 13 to 19, to give it momentum. And then power stream on December 20 and onwards.
