I hear what you're saying, Hilton. From a marketing and celebrity perspective I certainly don't expect her to try to reignite that old flame. I'm just thinking about artists like Aretha Franklin, Billie holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and others who I still wish had produced more work - not because they didn't do what they were supposed to do and then some, but because they were so great I just want more. Mariah once said at the heart of it all she is primarily a songwriter. In addition to being a really good songwriter her production instincts are quite astute - note how very few of her albums sound as dated as do many artists' albums from just a few years ago. Here's to hoping she can scale down from the vocal pyrotechnics of her youth and in order to see where her creativity takes her in what should be an extraordinarily mature and creative phase in the life of an artist of her caliber.

So I guess we need to stream from December 13 to 19, to give it momentum. And then power stream on December 20 and onwards.

I don't know if there's a maximum number to stream per day per user. I do know stans of other artists say they leave the song on repeat and loop. It might not add into the count as there's no clear rule, but it keeps the song on other people's "hot songs", or "popular this week" or "suggested songs", depending on which app you are using. So the goal is to get it recommended on there users' playlists.

She might just be tired of playing the game after 30 years in a very demanding business, always defending oneself. She is still standing yet plays it by her own rules by now. It is not as she could become a non-celebrity all the sudden. At times it must feel as being trapped on a treadmill. Used to a particular lifestyle with both the benefits and the entrapments that come with it. Respect.

Can we all just commit to streaming AiWFC during the final week before Christmas? Can we all just commit to purchasing AIWFC days before Christmas? It's all we've got. #Justice4Mariah

I agree but I do think one last album is all she needs. Her voice isn't what it once used to be and after about 30 years acts start to become more obscure and niche. Also if she doesn't feel like promo or playing the awards game then she will always have quick eras that really don't go anywhere. Caution is a masterpiece but if nobody hears it then did it really matter? I like how she's cementing her legacy, even though it seems a bit early she has been around a long time. And sometimes the market dictates when you become a legacy act. I wish she released more than just two albums this decades but I understand she had kids.

Streaming and buying are the Friday to Thursday. Radio is the Monday to Sunday. So on the week of Christmas radio will only have three days unfortunately (23rd, 24th, 25th) but sales and streaming will have six (20th-25th). It's a long shot but streaming is enough on those six days combined with three heavy days of radio she has a shot. Christmas 2021 is when the week lines up better as Christmas falls on a Thursday (end of the week for both formats). But we can't wait another two years.

Get off auto pilot, Mariah - keep creating (91,427)

I am sincerely happy that Mariah is having so many late career moments of vindication for her excellent work back in the 90s. But, am I the only one who would really like to get some new and interesting music from her more than anything else? What I love most about Mariah beside her voice is the fact that she has always made high quality albums with a wide range of expressions (within a spectrum). She should be coming into her prime as a musical mind by this point not merely running her well earned victory laps. Come on Mariah - keep creating.

The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. Radio airplay, which, unlike sales figures and streaming, is readily available on a real-time basis, is tracked on a Monday to Sunday cycle (previously Wednesday to Tuesday). A new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by Billboard on Tuesdays.
Sales and streaming from December 20 to December 26 will give the song its biggest chance at reaching the number one spot. Early streams and sales are very important so the song could keep moving up the charts though.

Yes buying the song now doesn't really help much. You should buy it on the peak week. I just don't know when is the peak week but it's definitely around the 20th of December or just before that. Tracking week is so confusing to me. The streaming, radio and downloads tracking seem to be on different range of days. Does anyone know who can explain this for our benefit?

You have to buy the song on the peak week from iTunes starting December 20th. Also pre-order the physical single on Amazon or her website. That will really be helping the song go to number 1. Plus stream on the week of December 20th. Spotify and YouTube. Maybe even call a few of your local radio stations that week to request the song. It’s going to take an effort on all those fronts to achieve the almost impossible.

Let's make it happen - 19th number one (91,422)
by Mò from South Africa

Shame on the Grammy's bunch, they have done Mariah dirty to infinity.
I mean this is a woman who has written classics, broken barriers, a woman who has been proactively involved in the production of her music, a musical genius, made and broke records, infused different musical genres, made Christmas music bankable, why would the committee not recognise that, the list is endless.
It dawned on me, she is too powerful for them, yet she is not on any man's leash, and we know that's how it's got to be as a female entertainer. It must be frustrating them, so awarding her would be crazy.
All we want for Christmas is a 19th number 1, lets gift her.

I'm not completely sure but I think Spotify and other streaming platforms only count ten plays for a day per user so I don't really see the need of US fans to stream it all day but ten times per day. I know this information lacks a source but I've seen it in a famous singer's stories on Instagram.

Exactly. Let's not forget the Grammy folks are mostly an arrogant bunch. But I'm glad she finally started giving them a piece of her mind. They never understood her, not even in her prime. They're are not likely nominate her under any circumstances. The good news is, no one really gives a damn about their dumb popularity contest.

Stay in her lane? (91,419)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
That's not what she did in '95. She pushed boundaries, she invented hip-pop and worked with more black artists than ever before. She was a woman in the industry that wasn't sexed up to sell and doing something different. Critically, she was applauded for it at the time. Her music hit the top of multiple genres at one time. Most music hit one major genre, but she exceeded that. They even seemed to be upset that she was directing her own music videos and tried to pass her off as a "ghost director". In '05 she made a plethora of urban music, did it well, nothing over the top. She was still ignored and wasn't even allowed to accept the awards she did win during the live broadcast. The irony is that each time she was used in the Grammy ads and promos to get people to watch their boring forever show and then they snubbed her both times.

Justice for AIWFCIY (91,418)

Ok, let's forget the Grammys. They snubbed MC again. So let's get AIWFCIY to number 1 the week before Christmas. So on 12-12-19 and 12-17-19 let's download, stream, request on the radio and YouTube the video like crazy on this day. #Justice for AIWFCIS [sic]. Wouldn't that be the best Christmas present Lambs could give MC for Christmas?

Next album: Gospel Jazz Soul (91,417)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I hope she takes a real live musical route with her next album. Songs in the vein of The Wind, Vanishing, My Saving Grace and Fly Like A Bird. I think she should produce the whole album by herself and show everyone how far her talents go. Keep it to eleven songs to mirror her debut and simply call the album "Mariah". The Grammys and the industry as a whole would die. I loved "Caution" but I don't want anything current of the moment from her next. Forget charts or sales. It's probably her last album on her contract anyway. I want something so timeless. Something so organic. Something so different than her other albums but still so true to who she is as an artist.

Grammy snub? (91,416)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
Hi all. I hope everyone is well and being good to others. As for the Grammy issue, I think we have to keep in mind that Mariah has stated in recent interviews that she doesn't care about them. Yes, in 1996 after the Daydream snub, given her nominations, I am sure she cared and felt hurt and I always felt that night at the Grammy's was a turning point in her career and life. And it pretty much was. She left Tommy shortly after and things changed from there. Caution is a wondrous album. We should hold onto it. I am not sure how many more like it she will or can make. It seems the Grammy's do not reward people who stay in their lane and do it well for decades. Rather, they seem to want people that push boundaries and expand music's composite. I get and respect that. It seems if Mariah wants Grammy prowess she will need to throw all norms to the wind and come from a place with her music that she never has in order to show an artist that is far reaching in scope, ability, vision, experiment, risk and persuasion. I am not sure Mariah is hungry in that way any longer or can afford to be given the people who are reliant upon her. I hope she goes for it but we will see and must enjoy what she produces nonetheless. God bless her and us all.

Grammys, who cares? (91,414)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Are we really surprised she was shut out? Daydream was denied, having the top single of the year (OSD). Fantasy debuts at #1. Then comes along TOEM ten years later, and she has the top single again (WBT), #1 selling album of 2005, and is denied again. Oh sure she won three awards in the R&B categories, but ones that weren't even televised. This after a much publicized breakdown, subpar sales of Charmbracelet, many counted MC out. She came back with a bang. And now she has the chance to get another #1 hit 25 years after its release. MC is pure talent. But she doesn't play the game to get the nods, doesn't play politics to get the nominations. Who cares about the Grammys? Her numbers and accomplishments (see Billboard's article) don't lie. Now let's get AIWFCIY to #1.

Do you really think the Grammy's would consider her after she went on a major entertainment news show and said that the Grammy's were boring?
No matter how good of an album Caution is, she pissed off alot of Recording Academy voters with her interview where she said the Grammy's are boring and that nobody watches them anymore, and then proceeded to say that the Grammy's punished her for having the #1 song of the year.

AIWFCIY, 19th #1 (91,411)
by Robby from Chicago USA

I did my fair share of helping this song to finally reach #1 spot in BB100 this year. Bought 50 CDs (re-released album) for myself and for Christmas gifts to family and friends, stream (Spotify) the song at least for an hour on my way to work and another hour on my way home, watch the video every Saturday and Sunday, posted her SJTD concert in my social media accounts. So is there something else that I'm missing here? Oh well, if it doesn't get to #1 then there is nothing else I can do.

Grammy 2020 (91,410)
by Robby from Chicago USA
| |
|
|
What do we do expect? What could we possibly expect? I get it that it is nice to be recognized, much more winning it, as it is more of a validation of the quality of your work. But we all are aware how Grammy people have treated Mariah in the past and I don't think that will change at all, not in this lifetime. We should just accept it, and I believe Mariah did, and settle on the 5 wins that she had. Of course we all wanted her to win again but until then, we all just can hope and believe that somewhere in a parallel universe, she is like Beyonce or Adele.
