Re: New start (89,615) (89,621) by Andrew from London UK
I don't mean to be a nitpicker, but if you were exposed to Mariah by turning on MTV and seeing Fantasy, how are you an "MC lover since day one"?

Memoirs (89,620) by B from USA
One subject I would like Mariah to address is what went down in the studio with Lauryn Hill. I was beyond excited when it was announced they were doing a song together and then nothing.

When I became a fan (89,619) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Wow, suddenly this board got a positive vibe.

Honey was my first impression, but Divas Live 1998 was when I became a fan, still have the reccording on VHS.

I remember the commercials, VH1 advertized with Emotions, and I got goose bumps by the whistle tones. After the show, I was a die hard fan, and the rest is history.

Re: List / unplugged on Jimmy Fallon (89,607) (89,618) by Dove from United States
Thanks for playing Andrew. I'm going to make a playlist of your list and imagine she's singing it live.

Rob King. He's really likeable and has that same light Martyn did. His vibrato reminds me a little of Andrea Bocelli. Did he really sing TTEOT?

Wow, I can't believe it's been two years. I looked Martyn up when you wrote about him last year and I missed him even though I never knew him. He seemed like such a happy person, and well loved. This video made me smile.

Carly Rae Jepsen's Dedicated is pop heaven (89,617) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
It's sad when you have a hit such as Call Me Maybe make it so big that it pretty much overshadows your entire career even when you have so much better material under your belt. Carly's Emotion was the best pop album of 2015, and her new release this year seems destined to be revered just the same. She really knows her way around a great pop hook.

Check out (my faves) Everything He Needs, which brilliantly reworks one of the tracks off Popeye The Movie of all possible songs, and Automatically In Love, which according to Carly, is Mariah-inspired, which is quite clear why with its delicious feel-good 90s vibe.

Unplugged V2 (89,616) by Jeff from USA
The dynamic relationship between Mariah and her background singers is phenomenal. They clearly support her and understand what she can do musically, even on a rough day. I would love to see that relationship play out in an "Unplugged" setting. Watching them interact with her during live performances always makes me smile. If you want an example, check out this performance. The smiles on their faces when MC flawlessly nails the ending is priceless.

New start (89,615) by Jeff from USA
I was raised in an extremely conservative religious environment, so until the age of 15, I was not exposed to music outside of "the church". One day, at 15 years old, I turned on MTV and heard THE VOICE. I was watching the video for Fantasy and fell in love. I saved my money, bought a CD player, and purchased my first CD ever: Daydream. I've been a lamb ever since.

Re: New start (89,604) (89,614) by Shezz from Pk
My very first memory was not a very strong one. I just have flashes of the Someday video. We didn't have MTV until 1992-1993. First major memory of listening to and seeing Mariah was the Hero video.

Wow. That was an amazing performance. Didn't realise he was that talented. Thank you for sharing that. Do you know him personally? Is he a Mariah fan? (Avoiding the L word here.)

Re: New start (89,604) (89,612) by Tijl from Belgium
My first memory was "Without You" which was a huge hit in Europe. That voice, that voice, that voice.

Re: New start (89,604) (89,611) by Bill from the UK
My brother was watching the MTV chart countdown and Dreamlover came on. Having only been exposed to Disney records and dance pop and school hymns by that point in my life (9 years old), I had never heard anyone sing like Mariah before. Remember youngsters, no one embellished every turn of phrase with melisma back then, Mariah popularised it. I was just amazed at her voice and her beautiful look. The curly hair, dancing in the field. At that moment, life changed.

Re: New start (89,604) (89,610) by Lainsky from Philippines
Nice one Joachim. My very first memory was the black and white video of Mariah in Love Takes Time. Immediately, I fell in love with her voice, music, and artistry. Because of her, I stalked Billboard chart every week and enjoyed seeing her on top of the charts. Today, I simply enjoy her music.

Rob King (89,608) by Andrew from London UK
Incidentally, remember the guy who sang Till The End Of Time at Martyn's memorial? He's only on Britain's Got Talent this year. Check him out and vote for him if you can.

Re: List / unplugged on Jimmy Fallon (89,601) (89,607) by Andrew from London UK
A new unplugged? Im sure someone already thought of that.

1. My All (strings into Morales)
2. It's Like That (live percussion frenzy with crazy massive drum percussion interlude)
3. With You
4. #Beautiful (feat. Trey Lorenz)
5. We Belong Together
6. Hero (but slow, soft whisper throughout over gentle piano in background with lone spotlight, ending on ethereal long held whistle note)
7. Always Be My Baby (audience participation)
8. Till The End Of Time

I know she wouldn't dare try for TTEOT. But what an ending. And for Martyn, no less. In five days, it becomes two years. How time flies. How nice to have the luxury of time flying, eh.

I was watching MTV at my grandparent's house when Fantasy came on and I was enraptured by Mariah's voice and beauty.

New start (89,604) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Hey, I agree with most here, but should we try to start over, like Mariah did with Charmbracelet? Why don't we start and tell each other the very first memory we have about Mariah? We don't say what we don't like about other's memories, but are free to explore the memory.

I start: My very first memory was when the Honey video came out. Funny, because I didn't like the song, but loved the video. Today I absolutely love Honey, the song and the video. I think you can say Honey brought me to Mariah.

List / unplugged on Jimmy Fallon (89,601) by Dove from United States
If Mariah did another MTV Unplugged type album, but smaller and more intimate, like when she went on Jimmy Fallon and you could pick the 10 songs; what songs would you choose and why? Here's mine:

01. Betcha 'Gon Know
02. Prisoner
03. Migrate
04. Did I Do That
05. Underneath the Stars
06. Make It Look Good
07. The Roof
08. Music Box
09. Outside
10. I Wish You Well

Betcha 'Gon Know sounds like an intimate show opener. I Wish You Well sounds like a closer. I like DIDT and would like to hear it stripped down without the "we can't stop, you can't stop" superfluity. Outside, MILG, The Roof, and UTS I love and would love to hear live; some would be for the first time ever. Migrate and Prisoner are fun songs to add a festive moment to the set. Music Box would be for the throw back and because it's beautiful.

I just saw that MTV Unplugged was only six songs so if I had to choose only six these are it:

01. Betcha 'Gon Know
02. Did I Do That
03. Make It Look Good
04. The Roof
05. Outside
06. I Wish You Well

No you will not take the shirt back. It's mine forever (in my Cardi B voice). Lol. As for the song, I'm about as impressed with this one as I am with Right to Dream which isn't good. I'll revisist the song to be fair. I mean if I can listen to Crapfinity 5 times before I gave up then I can give this one another listen. Lol.
