Have you watched her Genius interview? She's articulate, poised, and self depricating. In leaked videos from the set of the filming of the A No No video a female rapper can be heard rapping so I'm willing to bet Mariah also filmed a remix video that will drop either next week or in the coming weeks.

While the goats graze in a pasture somewhere I'll continue to live in the land of denial where Mariah lords over us while riding a unicorn and sprinkling us with fairy dust.

First boo to the 2 pieces of rumors about the video (first with Eric pulling off ANN, second with a no-name rapper). I literally grieved over them for 10 min each.
With them setting my expectations rather low, I watched the video and genuinely absolutely 100% enjoyed it. It's different, presentable (not too much cleavage), colorful. Not to mention the high notes.
I love it.

Jaker20. I love you like tea time in July but you can't stand there and tell me the woman who wrote Vanishing, Looking In, Close My Eyes, Outside, Petals, Twister, Reflections (Care Enough), Right To Dream, Languishing, Camouflage and Portrait isn't serious. And this is where you argue, she's not one dementional. She's quite the multi-faceted creature. But to be honest you know what I thought? I thought she would hit late 40s early 50s and start going the Annie Lennox and Sarah Mclachlan route. She is every bit as good a deep introspective songwriter as Joni Mitchell, Jewel or any of those girls that are taken seriously so I assumed with the collapse of the voice she would learn guitar and start strumming on stage simple melodies and genius lyrics. Madonna learned the guitar. Ok well maybe four chords. But the point is to see what she's become is kinda sad but I'm still hoping that she trips over her mermaid gown after a few splashes in the mermaid room and Bryan forgets to catch her and she hits her head gets slight amnesia because Bryan forgot the number to 911 and forgets the ditz/bimbo/diva routine because I actually still believe she is still one of the greatest singer-songwriters who have ever lived. And there's still career success still in there. And Adele is my proof that people will still buy music that is introspective and not flashy.

Well I said focus on talent and professionalism, which is not what you even referred to. I certainly don't think that means being political, or even topical. I like Mimi's music and take her with the grain of salt that she offers.

Mariah has always been like that. She's never really taken things seriously, or she's not able to. She's just not an artist who tackle major social issues and not everyone has to. And personality first that profile, which is why her videos are like that. It's been like that since she started. Emotions (partying in the house), Dreamlover (partying in the countryside) and Fantasy (partying in the carnival). Like many, I had thought TEOM was a turning point. That album had concepts, the videos had concept, so in effect, even the way she carried herself in interviews and in real life looked more respectable. Then she defaulted back again herself in E=MC2 era all bimbo and having fun, and it's been like that since. I believe she is really like that in person. It's not a Stella thing. She's always been that way, insecure, conceited and too much into herself. So that's literally 25 years of her career, and just 2 years of maturity. You can't expect her to change now. You take it or leave it. Otherwise, you will just be frustrated.

I don't know if she will ever sell big again. It is possible and I definitely agree she needs to cut the fluff and fakery. She's always saying she doesn't take things too seriously, it's all for laughs, but is that all her career has evolved into, inside jokes, eye rolling, air quotes and winks? I'm not sure she can just display sheer talent, and professionalism anymore. I'm hoping she will fully shed the Stella era/error soon.

A No No video review (88,405)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
Let's start with the positive. This is the most eye-catching video Mariah has had since '09. I liked the colors and thought the vibe of the video matched that of the song. I think this video could actually have a chance of being watched by the general public and not just the lambs. Now, onto the less than positive. I thought she could have found much better, more natural dancers. These seemed corny to me and I was uncomfortable watching them. It seemed like everyone (except Dem Kids) were just trying too hard. Like some of you, I also would have preferred a video with a storyline. Those are always (caps) her most successful videos (Honey, WBT, TMB, etc.) and I don't understand why they are never used anymore. I would have liked a storyline where she is actually telling someone off lol. As much as I like the visual effects of this video, it has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. This was clearly an upgrade for her, but still a missed opportunity for more creativity in my opinion and I was underwhelmed.

A No No video (88,404)
by anonymous from UK

Genuinely think it's crap. I love Mariah so much, I think it's just a shame she had these "videos" now that are just so awful. Who the hell decides this and why? I cannot imagine a conversation that goes like, "Remember when Mariah was in a train cart and all these dancers were there and there was blue and pink lighting, I love it." Seriously? Love the song, but like many of her recent videos, I'll never watch it again. I got the music, that's something. She's almost always had those vanity shots which is fine, but there was some kind of substance to it. Dreamlover, for example. Not much to it but it's fun and suits the mood of the song. A No No video just doesn't have anything to it. Nothing to do with the song, or the lyrics, it's just poor.

Someday, I Don't Wanna Cry, There's Got To Be A Way, Emotions, Make It Happen, Dreamlover, Anytime You Need a Friend, All I Want for Christmas Is You, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Honey, My All, The Roof, Breakdown, I Still Believe, and Heartbreaker all from the 90s all had extras and actors other than Mariah in them. In fact, it's easier to list her solo videos from the 90s. Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, Can't Let Go, and Butterfly. Not including concert videos here of course, or duets.

For myself personally I like a lot from the retro style to the fun vibe. The message of the video from what I got was all the trash in her life is out the door personally and professionally and now she is back to living her life and enjoying her life as well. I can also understand that people expected or wanted more based on matching the video with the song itself. But nonetheless I am very satisfied with the results here.

Was expecting Shake It Off the sequel (88,400)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I love A No No as a song, the video is visually amazing (colours, vibe, general concept, the set, the looks and ensembles, all the semi-recognizable insta faces in the background). However I was hoping for a full on Shake It Off part 2. The look and themes would have been the perfect sequel to Shake It Off. Neon lights, sleek sexy hair and all. However, that video took four days to shoot? Didn't With You take a day to film, and there were multiple locations in that shoot? I'm disappointed after all the chatter about a remix, there isn't one. Watching GTFO, With You, and A No No in order; it's a nice thematic package of glamour shot videos that flow extremely well together. The themes and vibe of each video flow much more smoothly then the previous era of #Beautiful, You're Mine, and the non-existing YDKWTD video.

I like the video. It's just a promo, really for the song. It's fun and people will get the club/party vibe she's trying to convey. I surmise that the high notes were originally part of the track but they decided to leave them off for the album. She sneaks things in for us, like that. Any Chicago Lambs attending this Monday 11th, Chicago Theatre with me?

The Caution train has begun moving. I love the retro 80's inspired feel of the video and those whistle tones popped up outta nowhere. Lol. I wasn't expecting that. Dem kids look so adorable too. All in all it's an enhancement to a bop that was already popping.

by T from USA

It's okay. I like how it doesn't try to beat us over the head with subtext from the lyrics. I liked that she actually had background extras in a video. When was the last time that happened? It's Like That, We Belong Together. After that it was all solo videos or just one extra person, plus a featured artist if there was ever any. But historically Mariah never had background extras in the 1990's either. Heartbreaker being the exception.

I was hoping for something funny. I miss the funny. Anyway, I liked the color scheme of the video and the kids are always nice to see. I still don't like the song as a whole. Only part I like is when she starts saying no in different languages. l'm going to definitely need a remix now.

In my one post that sent the usuals into a vengeful frenzy once more I wrote, "The videos are cinematically alright but boring in content and will not attract different demographics." And that seems to be the sentiment about this video here. So I don't lie. A No No is actually visually quite stunning - it is better than the other videos. But it is actually only a glamour photo shoot for Mariah's boobs again. A story line could have been good for this. We pay so much to see her in concert that an extra five quid whacked on to go towards videos would probably meet no resistance.

I agree. The whole vibe and look of the video is great but it would have been great if it had a hint of a storyline. This is just Mimi and the crew having fun on the train. Cute but meh. And then not even a Teflon bonbon - forget the major rappers. I am very thankful though that the Bulochnikovs are history or the daughters and mommy would have surely been all over the video. There isn't a remix video coming - I think that was it. Yep.
