Re: SWHOF (87,570) (87,575) by Licia from USA
I don't follow all this award and inductee stuff so I didn't know this information. It makes a lot more sense now as to why Dallas got it and not her. On a super positive note I'm glad she lost to someone who's at least equally talented rather than some twat face that changes one word in a song and now they call themselves a writer. Lol.

Missy's friends with Mariah so I assumed she was being polite by including all of the nominees in her post. It's not that deep.

Mariah will be inducted. The only question is when.

Mariah's bubble (87,571) by RibbonB from USA
So it's been said that Mariah's bubble both insulates and isolates her. So it's a double edged sword. This was most evident to me at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2015. I was happy for her, but it seemed rather sad. Her old team was gone, not there to support. Stella was locked to be hip. Her new rebound James didn't make the ceremony. The only representation she had was LA Reid, Brett Ratner and Lee Daniels and Steven Hill formerly of BET. Everything seemed so sterile in a way. The most glaring omission was none of her family members were present it shown. Of course she had her babies there to memorialize the moment, but there were no friends there to support. Hopefully her life is richer in friendships than we know, but in comparison Snoop's Walk of Fame ceremony had Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Quincy Jones and his family singing his praises. Mariah's relationships seem complicated both personally and professionally. Ultimately she will get her due.

Re: SWHOF (87,563) (87,570) by RibbonB from USA
People don't understand, or ignore, the fact that there are two categories of nominees. Mariah is in the performing category and Dallas is in non performing. The voters vote to induct three writers from each, so Mimi just didn't get enough votes to beat Missy, but maybe she was close. Now Jermaine and Mariah were nominated in performing category in 2018 and I think Mimi should have been inducted before him, but she might need to improve her networking. I am assuming Jermaine is considered a performer, but I didn't double check. As someone said Missy has worked with many artists and she interacts with them on social media.

Missy (87,569) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
As for Missy I feel like this is her big moment since she has yet to receive a video vanguard award or any major Lifetime achievement award. Honestly speaking Missy's writing output has been minimal for about a decade now. I believe that the committee is favoring the rappers now because for the last three years rappers have been inducted into the Hall of Fame on their first try. Hopefully the committee does MC justice and give her, her just due as it is much deserved. Hopefully her 30th anniversary in the entertainment industry will be her year she begins to receive the flowers she has worked so hard for (2020).

Re: Why doesn't Mariah get tributes like Janet? (87,554) (87,568) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I adore Mariah and listen to her catalogue more frequently, but I love Janet. Her last album for me was fantastic, and I can't sit here and say that I fully agree that tribute shows mean an artists career is over. I do however feel artists that combine music and dance are rare few and far between now and this is probably a factor especially for visual tributes as this_is_qhm mentioned.

Re: SWHOF (87,556) (87,567) by Terna from Nigeria
You should also take into consideration that Mariah hasn't really written for others as much as Missy Misdemeanor has. Missy has a wide spectrum of artists she's written and produced for in more genres than Mariah has, so yes I think Missy deserved it more this go around. Mariah definitely would get inducted too just not this year.

Re: SWHOF (87,561) (87,566) by Lee from USA
Exactly what I have been saying for years. How could they induct the womanizing baby daddy of Chili but complain about Mimi's image? I saw that TLC movie, and Austin was a teenager away from being the next R. Kelly.

With You (87,564) by B from USA
I'm glad Epic and Mariah have given and are still giving With You a chance because if they had released a second single With You would've faded into obscurity. I'm just glad it's still doing well on Adult Contemporary and R&B radio and charts. Havana was released in October of 2017 and didn't top the Hot 100 until January 2018. I'm not saying With You is going to be Mariah's 19th #1 but I think it will eventually chart on the Hot 100 and become a top 40 hit and the follow up single the A No No remix will be a top 10 hit if Mariah and her team are able to get Cardi to record a verse or two. The third single should be Caution. Caution has more streams on Spotify and more views on YouTube than A No No. Besides, GTFO and With You, Caution has more streams of Spotify and views on YouTube.

Re: SWHOF (87,561) (87,563) by Licia from USA
That's not basically what Missy said. That didn't mean she thinks someone else is more deserving than her. That meant she respects the hell out of everyone nominated. Anyway although I do agree it's due time for Mariah to be inducted, I'm not going to act as if Missy hasn't contributed to the industry as well. Probably not 17 number ones contribution, but she's accomplished alot still. Congrats to her. As for Dallas Austin he has a pretty impressive resume as well, but I agree that I wouldn't have chosen him over Mariah. He's just as deserving though.

Re: Why doesn't Mariah get tributes like Janet? (87,548) (87,562) by B from USA
Because Janet is a Jackson. The industry and public view Janet as a legacy act and they view Mariah as someone who has the potential to make a comeback.

Re: SWHOF (87,556) (87,561) by B from USA
Missy basically said Mariah deserved to be inducted when she said, "Also those who were nominated because their body of work is amazing." Mariah's ultra femme persona is most likely she was overlooked. Why they inducted Dallas Austin and snubbed Mariah Carey is beyond me.

With all due respect, like most in the industry, she have had some work, but I think the doctors have been brilliant. She has subtle changes without looking like a plastic surgery wreck. There are people both younger and older than Mariah that have "plastic surgery faces". I think Mariah looks really good.

Mariah looks incredible (87,559) by Dove from United States
Mariah looked incredible when she performed The Distance on The Tonight Show, With You at the AMAs, and the hits medley at the iHeart Music show. I love her ensembles lately. Just caught this one.

Article: Mariah looks incredible (87,558) by TJ from Norway
I really, really hope that Mariah stop having all the plastic "fantastic" surgeries. People claims that she look good all the time on Instagram etcetera, and that she isn't aging. Just Google Mariah Carey 2014 or 2015 and look at the difference in her eyes. What on earth has she done with those beautiful eyes that she used to have? It's so sad that she won't age naturally and that she is becoming more and more like Michael Jackson. Or an alien. There are powerful women in the movie industry who age with style, I guess people in the music industry can as well. I don't believe it will affect her sales if she stops using fillers or botox or whatever. Peace.

Re: SWHOF (87,556) (87,557) by RibbonB from USA
Voting for the SWHOF is by members only. Politics may be involved, or just differences of opinion. It's really not fair to assume it's either Missy or Mariah, as Annie Lennox wasn't inducted either. Each year a pool of eligible songwriters are nominated in two categories, performing or non-performing songwriters. Somebody is always gonna get left behind. Hopefully Mariah won't be the Susan Lucci of the Song Writers Hall of Fame though, for years, always a nominee, never an inductee. It's great that she is still creating content, but is she putting out too much with diminished quality? Caution reviews aside, it's really not that epic.

SWHOF (87,556) by Mirage_Nunez from America
We love Ms Elliot and all that she embodies, but Mariah is a much more prolific songwriter (there I said it) and was definitely robbed.

A small part of me can’t help but to feel Wendy publicly discrediting Mariah’s pen game on her show play a very small role in swaying the vote, but I could be reaching to just blame somebody. Anyways congrats to Missy. I really do love her as an artist.

Re: Why doesn't Mariah get tributes like Janet? (87,548) (87,554) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
It's much easier to pay tribute to a visual artist. Janet's career is filled with such impeccable and memorable choreography and has a videography that is just as remarkable as Madonna's without feeling too forced. So even if Janet's hits are far less remembered and replayed than Mariah's, in an increasingly visual generation, it makes more sense for shows to be swayed towards doing tributes that rely on spectacle over vocals alone.

But we should really take it as a compliment as well. It just means that it's much easier to find current dancers who can dance like or even better than Janet at any point in her career than find current singers who are even half as good as Mariah was during her prime. Hell, even singers who can pretty much sing present Mariah under the table in terms of ease, range and fluidity are easily knocked down several pegs due to Mariah's unique tone alone.

Re: How did I miss this? (87,550) (87,552) by We are Lambily from USA
Its called Runaway and it's on the Japanese version, a little bonus track. This era's biggest mistake was not finding a place for that song. It's so real and so inspirational. It should also be the final single of the era and Mariah need to release it worldwide.

Re: Why doesn't Mariah get tributes like Janet? (87,548) (87,551) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Well, I think most people in the industry feel Janet's career is very much over, and therefore show her tribute. I think it's a good thing Mariah doesn't get that attention yet, because I think people in the industry feel Mariah still have potential for another revival. Wait with the tributes until she has retired. Maybe I'm dellusional, but blissfully so.
