Re: Caution acclaim CD rankings (86,856) (86,859)

1.TEOM skip To The Floor and Get Your Number every time. 1a. E=MC2, I hop around filled with hand and 18th number in the timeless TMB. 2. Me I Am Mariah, sad, but poignant. Will have a justice for MIAM moment in ten years. 3. Memoirs, fun songs, too wordy at times. Great vocals. Trying to do too much, but not doing enough. 4. Caution, I love 8th Grade timeless, touching. GML is experimental and creative, great to explore in future projects. Stay Long Love is a radio ready bop. I avoid the first half of this project, boring. Looking forward to A No No remix though.

Caution (86,858)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Caution is short and sweet with the vocals of Mariah O' the Day, of course. I have the feeling she'll go all out on her next album, hopefully next year. As for considering "Caution" better than "Charmbracelet", if I were to choose based on lyrics, creativity and art overall, I would take "Charmbracelet" over "Caution" any day. Mariah pen game on "Charmbracelet" is great, still poetic and meaninful.

I love that MC's getting some of the best reviews in a long time. In the end it's the music that people will remember. Imo, Caution is her best album since TEOM. I literally don't skip any song, it flows so smoothly.

Like on Daydream, on Caution Mariah's whistles are textured into a lot of the songs, especially in the background.

You're right. "The Angel Cut and Paste" was the only project announced that never saw the light of day. I'm happy it was shelved. That would've been a stain in her recording career.

Andrew, you have to stop telling people about the albums you cherish the most. Those bitch ass folks rate them with 3 stars just to go against you, don't you see? There's an illuminati mole in this board. I hope I used "bitch ass folks" correctly.

I would hardly call Caution an R&B album that debuted at #1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at #5 on the Billboard 200 charts a flop.

After listening to the remixes from the Angels Advocate remix album on the deluxe edition of MIAM I'm glad it was shelved. Although I prefer the album verson of Angels Cry, her duet of it with Ne-Yo has 120 million YouTube views.

8th Grade is clearly the best vocals on the album in my opinion. It's been one of my favs on the album upon first listen. Vocally it's very "Slipping Away" and just as good I must say. The fact that the song is so much talked about on this board and elsewhere is a sign of its appeal. It's cryptical and that's another proof of Mariah's genius as a writer. We connect to the song because she's able to tell the story of a grow up relationship but with the eyes of the child she once was. That's pretty powerful although very simple at the same time. This album is so smart and on so many levels. Love Caution, love Mariah.

The only real shelved project we know about is the Angels Advocate album, and probably for good reason. The rest is just speculation until her memoir is released, where she will hopefully shed some light on what was going on in the background. She did say she was contracted to release an album a year when at her original stint at Sony, and 1996 is the only year without an album so potentially something was in the works that got scrapped. But then, Daydream was still churning out hits well into 1996 and selling so all I can conceive being released would be an accompanying live album for the tour.

I actually like it when you get a little mushy. It's rare, so we'll take what we get since we all know you'll have your pitchforks out come your next post.
I for one love Caution - I think it's the perfect album for 2018 Mariah and even more impressive considering her age and her current status in today's industry. And like you said, industry respect is key. Physical sales in the age of steaming is practically irrelevant, and Mariah has had that and much more in the past anyway, so when everything is said and done - no matter how much she is considered a has been and a flop, it's the respect that will stay at the end of the day. Considering the extreme brand tarnishing that we all had to sit through in recent years, who would have known that she could turn things around so quickly? I mean who else does this sort of redemption arc happen to?
And I feel that you like Caution the least - for now (all caps). I mean look at you - I recall you went from hating the initial snippet of GTFO, then liking the song. Same with With You. You didn't like The Distance, but then you learned to like and even praise the first half of Caution. Mariah sneaks up on you like that and she's probably the only artist who can. Anything can happen at this point.

Mariah Carey revered (86,846)

Mariah Carey shelved projects (86,845)
by DivergentIntel from United States of America
| |
|

Hey has anyone ever wondered if Mariah Carey was going to release some sort of album in 1996? According to reports that exist out there, Mariah Carey was considered a contender for the lead role in Evita. Mariah Carey would have been perfect for that role and possibly could have won an Oscar for it. Given her situation at the time a la Tommy Mottola and her personality, and had she been given more actual acting roles, I think she would have knocked it out of the ballpark. She could have won an Oscar or a Tony back in 1996, 1997, 1998 etc. This would have been great image wise and career wise and would have made 1996 a year in which she could have had something released and increased album sales. Another project I believe was shelved by Mariah Carey was possibly a Christmas album in the year 2000. Notice how she was supposed to release Where Are You Christmas? and the Holy Night music video in 2000 and also the All I Want For Christmas Is You remix song that had the cartoon music video with voice contributions from Lil Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri SoSo Def etc?

Mariah Carey album sales discrepancy (86,844)
by DivergentIntel from United States of America
| |
|
|
Hello there to all my fellow lambs. I could not help but wonder if Billboard changes or rewrites history or changes the stats it reports. In the annual reporting of each years sales usually posted in January after the entire year that passed is over look at the tabulation sales. In January 1994, it was reported that for her Music Box album, it is said to have sold 3.3 million in 1993 alone for USA sales according to Billboard/Nielsen. Then in January 1995, it was reported that Music Box had sold 2.7 million for the year of 1994 in USA sales alone. 3.3 + 2.7 = 6 million plus. That means that she had sold over 6 million plus in USA sales alone for Music Box in the USA by January 1995 according to Billboard/Nielsen. Also, another thing I am wondering, in these respective reports which were included in Billboard Magazine every January, were these including BMG Music Club store sales etc or did it exclude that from the tabulation? As of November 2018, Music Box is reported to have sold 7.3 million copies in the USA. In 1995, Daydream is reported to have sold 3.9 million copies for USA sales alone. In 1996, Daydream is reported to have sold 3 million copies. That means that by January 1997, Daydream had sold well over in excess of 6.9 million copies. Daydream is said as of November 2018 to have sold 7.7 million copies, although it should be surpassing the 7.8 million mark. Does that tabulation include BMG Club sales and music club store sales or not? Butterfly is said to have sold 2.1 million in 1997 in the USA. In 1998, it is reported to have sold 1.3 million in the USA. That means that by January 1999, it sold over 3.4 million copies. Butterfly today as of November 2018 is said to have sold over 3.8 million copies according the report coverage on her Career sales recently done by Billboard/Nielsen. Rainbow is reported to have sold over 2.1 million in 1999 at lin the USA alone. I can't seem to find a report for how much Rainbow sold for the entire year of 2000, but I suspect it was at least 1 million if not more. In November 2018, it is reported that Mariah sold 2.9 million copies of Rainbow in the USA. The reason why I question what Billboard has reported recently versus the past is because they have become questionable with how they report and edit or change criteria or rules. Remember how Mariah Carey is among the top 2 most awarded/rewarded artists with most Billboard Awards alongside Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Yet, in recent years, Billboard has been saying that they only have like 14 or lesser numbers. What are your thoughts on this my fellow Lambs.

I don't find it sad at all. She had an amazing chart run that most artists would envy. How many artists can say they had #1 records spanning 2 decades? If she manages to chart again with new material I'd be happy for her but anything at this point is icing on the cake to a career that no one could dream up.

Andrew, I love this album more than Charmbraclet, Memoirs and Elusive Chanteuse. There are songs that I really like on those albums, but Caution is a play all the way through set on repeat. I know you've heard that before here, but its for a good reason. I'm trying to imagine exactly what you were expecting out of a new release. Oh, I listened to E=MC2 recently and agree its a really good album as its held up fairly well.

For the life of me I do not understand, nor, perhaps, will I ever understand why the Mariah albums I cherish most get three stars and the one I like least gets four. Happy anniversary (86,836)

I just wanted to give a shoutout and happy anniversary love to Charmbracelet which turned 16 years old today. This album contains some of MC’s best writing and storytelling at its finest. Even though the vocals for the most part on this album are subdued I appreciate this album for what it is at a time where MC was considered over and done she proved she can come out fighting and eventually come out victorious. This album was the set up for one of the greatest musical comebacks ever so I thank you Charmbracelet and happy anniversary.
