As an album track I have to say it could be really good depending on how it slices up the rest of the album. But why put this out at all? It is bewildering. As for the profanity, well, [censored] it. Gtfo - instant classic (83,735) by Terna from Nigeria During the "#Beautiful" era I read an interview where Miguel describes the way the song was created and I recall him saying something along the lines of "Mariah is very intentional about her vocals and the songwriting process as a whole". In other words the way you hear her sing it is the way she intended. GTFO is a clear indication of that. This has to be her most intriguing vocal ever. I've never heard her sing like this before. It's sung in a very high falsetto on purpose and it works. The mood, the vibe and the feeling it invokes is instant and if you listen closely to the lyrics storytelling Mariah is back. Not my thing, but I don't condemn other artists for using it, so I can't her either. Like the last single she featured on, I loved her vocals but the song was basically about a hook up as a distraction so I couldn't embrace everything about it either. I bought it and I bought this one. I like the song. I mean yeah if she starts cussing in every track from now on it will turn me off, so I get why people don't like that. GTFO (83,732) by Gilles from Malta I truly like it, it changes a lot, I must say that the track is really hypnotic. There are many words hidden in that song, it is difficult to understand them all. I am suprised that it is not the lead single but it is a smart move to introduce the vibe of an album and the lead single on the 5th of October. There's working links to the song and they are going to get that video out. Hopefully this will continue. I honestly didn't think we'd get any music this year (her track record hasn't been great in the few years). I'm glad I was wrong and despite me being skeptical I always want her to win. I agree about the song possibly not translating well live. This is the type of song that may need a remix or to be changed up for live performances. It puts me in the mind of You're Mine. GTFO (83,728) by Will from England I love it. The second verse especially speaks to me right now. It's an updated sound for her and yet is classic Mariah. Even though the f-word divides some fans, it's subtle and the way it's been sung doesn't make me mind it. It's not like on Beautiful where it was harshly sung by Miguel. I love the delivery of this song, having it full voice for the whole song would not have worked. And vocally, it's a big step up from I Don't. Been on repeat since I bought so it's a good start. I love the melody, the beat and her vocals are subtle, pleasant and understated. Definitely a little disappointed with the lyrics which could have been more mature and substantial and would have certainly elevated this song. The production makes it sound current and I have been listening to it over and over so it isn't a disappointing song for sure. It does not sound like a song she can perform live and I'll be surprised if she tries to and with all the "[censored]"s flying around it'll have to be quite a censored performance if it ever comes to that. I like the subtle throwbacks in "tings" (Cruise control) and "scusami" (O.O.C.). I actually wish the song was a little longer. it clocks in just under the golden 3:30 mark. Overall I'm happy with it but slightly underwhelmed. Lets hope the second single packs a bigger punch which I'm sure it will. 3.5 ⭐️ (Thursday 13 September 2018; 15:57)
