I'm also considered emotional unstable and Portrait speaks to me as well. It's an instant classic.

Jimmy Fallon / Genius / Memoirs / Caution (86,087)
by Will from England

I'm so happy that she sang it live. Nice dress, not a ballgown, good vocals and hit those notes. Also, brilliant Genius interview and we need one of those for every song, tangents included. I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact that she confirmed that her memoirs is indeed on its way and she's writing it at the moment. I really like this album, it sounds cohesive despite the numerous producers. And I like she touched on this during the Genius, on how she makes sure that she comes through. The vocals, despite being fixed in her upper whisper register, sound very pretty and fit the mood of the album. What I really love is how different of a sound she's going for, and truthfully, the majority of the songs I can't say "Oh this sounds like this, this sounds like that", with the exception of Givin' Me Life (amazing song and brilliantly executed). So far, the promo road for this album has been done very well and we should be very happy with how it is going.

Mariah slayed her performance of The Distance live. I haven't seen Mariah that confident during a live performance since 05.

My take, Caution (86,084)
by Stacey from USA
| |

Portrait is my favorite song by far. The arrangement is classic Mariah, what I've always loved about her.
Why I'm still a fan? Because she produces amazing songs like Portrait. I closed my eyes as I listened to the song. I loved the raspy belts. The song is so Mariah. It felt so Butterfly-esq. My favorite of the album. I kept thinking why weren't there more songs like this on the album. The rest of the album sounds the same. Different beats, but still the same formula. Maybe other songs will grow on me. *shrugs* Time will tell. In the end though, as I've always said, even if the album doesn't grab me as a whole, I'm always grateful for those songs that I do like. Grateful she made Caution because I got Portrait.

Still playing this song non stop. I love it. I wish this was on the US version. I put this as my second or third favorite from the album, behind A No No, and Portraits.
I still can't believe Mariah and Skrillex worked together. Also on a side note, somebody find Stella and demand the demo tape back.
Also I hope when Mariah sings Portraits live she either mixes it somehow with Petals, or she goes crazy vocally at the end, with how it should sound if she didn't hold back. (One can dream right?) Lol.

Exactly. Mimi signed on to be Stella's sister wife in crime. Speaking of the witch era, I was surprised to know that Cindy Berger now represents Diddy. Her name was mentioned in the sad news about the death of Diddy's ex, Kim Porter. Gone too soon.

It's not early 90s. It is definitely a throwback to Lullaby from Charmbraclet. Same bass line and drumkick melody. Right?

I disagree with you in regards to Drake at this point he is over saturated in the music world right now and honestly I am glad she went with someone who is not really known that is the genius of MC when she goes left while everyone else goes right, she created an amazing album with people that is so out of her comfort zone and the end results turned out great and that is what we should be grateful for. On another note critically the album has gotten the best reviews of any album she has ever done so I think that she is on the right track. Hopefully in the future she can work with Drake when the right time comes.

Thank you for posting. That was a really good interview. The only thing I didn't like was at one point she implied that she was kept out of the studio by Stella and her crew (she did not say Stella, but once you watch you'll know who she's referring to) to do other things besides music that she normally wouldn't do. Like she was forced to do these things. I blame Stella for a lot, but Mariah had to approve a good majority of the stuff that was done. Her not taking personal responsibility for her part in that situation threw me off. She got that victim thing down. Other than that small blip it was a great interview.

Caution tidbits (86,072)
by Bobby A from United States
| |

1. Portrait sounds like it could fit perfectly in a movie scene. It is the song MC was referring to that she needed to finish with Daniel Moore during her last visit on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
2. 8th Grade has Aaliyah written all over it. She could have easily recorded it in 1997. I love the Timbaland ad libs and breakdown near the end of the song. Pure perfection and so Timbaland when he says "C'mon MC" and "Baby Girl" - Aaliyah tribute for sure
3. Stay Long Love You - Why does this song sound like Things That You Do with Jay Z? I am not feeling Gunna's contribution. Drake could have given more life to the song and the production.
4. I wonder why not one JD/BMC/JA aggressive track. I am kind of bombed about that.
5. This is the first MC album where each song is co-produced by a different producer.
6. Multiple songwriters on each song. All of them give her a fresh sound and arrangement.
7. I wish more Nineteen85 tracks had made the album. His production style is Hot. Hopefully more is coming with a part 2.
8. GTFO video cinematography is just like one of the videos of Nineteen85's group Dvsn. Check out the video for the song Mood.
9. I hope part 2 is coming next year when the tour kicks off.
10. Caution shows that MC can work with any producer of any genre of music and craft a great song. I would have never thought of her working with Lido, Wondur Girl and Skillrex in a million years. Just think what masterpiece she could come up with if she worked with Max Martin, Greg Kurstin, Ryan Tedder, Ashley Gorley, and other pop country songwriters.
11. Now I understand why we only received 10 songs. MC is making a statement of being relevant and a genius. Cohesiveness was the goal of Caution.
12. Giving Me Life sounds like another MC song other than The Roof. I can't put my finger on it right now. Somebody help me. But I love the song and the production.

Amazing interview. I'm so happy to see her so relaxed and interacting with the fans and acknowledging the fan faves. A special moment for sure. I definitely got teary eyed when they were talking about "Outside". Mariah has actually reached a point in her life that she has somehow reconciled with the past and is finally more open to say it like it is, the good and the bad. Everything feels like it should feel with the "Caution" era. It really has added so much positivity lately.

I agree, so far I skimmed but will go back and read through more thoroughly as I sit down and immerse myself in the album on repeat no doubt. It's always a breath of fresh air to come on this board and hear people's thoughts on a new album, appearances, etc., positive or negative, and feel the overall excitement. Hopefully we can ride this current wave of energy for awhile before going back to beating a dead horse, insults, and negative for the sake of negative posts.
